As we enter month 5 of our pregnancies we need a 5th thread!

Good luck to everyone having their 20 week scan this/next week :)

I'm on the reddit August group too and two of the ladies have had their babies already! Shock Both doing well thank goodness :)

Really crazy when you think about it. I wonder if we'll have any arrivals soon.

BeesKnees9 · 06/06/2018 08:25

Loving all the nursery/organisation pics @BertieBotts, @Gem173, @Waitingfortoto and @couchgriffon!

I have really got a wriggle on in the last few weeks with ordering things etc but still quite a bit to do! I can't wait to organise babies clothes, i am waiting for a chest of drawers to be delivered so i can crack on with that and then start stocking up on nappies and wipes etc.

Pram looks great @NikkiL123! Has your foot swelling gone down now after the hot weekend?

I have the 28 week midwife appointment this Friday and I'm looking forward to bump being measured.. I have a feeling it might be slightly ahead but will see what she says.

Gem173 · 06/06/2018 09:01

Got my 28 week midwife appointment today as I’m 28 weeks today :) yay! I agree with you all I so can’t wait! I’m scared and I know it’s gunna be hard but to be able to cuddle my little boy is gunna be so worth it! My mum keeps taughting me saying I could have this baby a month early which would mean end of July, as she had me a month early. When she says that I panic! I’m not ready yet, and don’t want him to come before I have my antenatal classes! Hopefully my midwife appointment goes okay, will ask if she can tell what postition he’s in too. Will update you all when it’s over :)
@Foxtrot what happens now if you have gestional diabetes? (I think that’s what it’s called!)

Emmasmum2013 · 06/06/2018 09:16

@BertieBotts! I'm on the reddit August group too!!! I haven't posted anything though and don't comment that often.
How shocking is it to hear from the American ladies about the healthcare system over there and how much it costs? It a disgrace..
God bless the NHS!! Whats it like in Germany for that? I've never heard bad things so I'm assuming its ok.

Gem173 · 06/06/2018 09:40

Just had appointment :( I’m measuring 3 weeks behind at 25 weeks. I’ve been referred for a growth scan which I should have by next Tuesday. I wouldn’t mind if he’s 1 week behind but he’s 3 weeks behind!
Im so scared and can’t stop crying, I guess it’s just hormones. They did say because it’s my first I could just be carrying well and tight. But I can’t stop thinking about him having issues. Midwife said it could be that my placenta has a problem and that’s why he’s small. Or he could just be a small baby. If that’s the case I could well be delivering early :( Just have to wait for my referral and see at the scan.
Also blood pressure was fine and so was my urine. She couldn’t find a vain, she said they are all rubbish on my arms (I’ve never had a problem before) so she took blood from one on the back of my hand.

God I’m a mess 😩on my way to work and wondering how il cope

BertieBotts · 06/06/2018 09:46

Costs you mean? It's fine, never have to pay for anything except prescriptions (never more than about €10) and sometimes some parts of extra therapies e.g. physio or massages we've had to pay €20 towards a full course. And DH got a €10 bill for an ambulance. Oh, we were supposed to pay €150 for our nuchal translucency scan/blood test for down's risk, which I found pretty surprising, but it ended up being covered as we have extra risk factors. If we'd wanted a NIPT that was about €400 but we opted out. I find they seem to offer much more than the NHS do which is always nice. They even pay for you to have days off work if your child is ill and you need to care for them! Of course we pay health insurance from our wages but it isn't very much - about 7% and your employer has to pay 7% on top as well. All children and non working dependents are covered for no extra charge.

BertieBotts · 06/06/2018 09:50

Oh no Gem, that sounds worrying. I think it's a good sign though that they are not so concerned to want you to come in and stay in immediately. If they are happy to wait for a scan then it should be a good sign as it means it is nothing urgent.

SpriteGirl · 06/06/2018 09:57

@Gem173 I wouldn't worry too much. Those measurements are notoriously inaccurate. My neighbour has just had a baby, she was hardly showing at 30 weeks and the midwives kept telling her she needed to eat more. But all was showing fine on the growth scans and the baby was born at over 9 pounds! So honestly It is very likely that it's just the way you're carrying.

NikkiL123 · 06/06/2018 10:28

@Gem173 try not to worry, i have been measured twice by two different midwives one said bump was a bit bigger than average and two weeks later the other one said was small but couldnt tell me why the previous midwife said it was bigger! I was like well i defo not lost weight so one of you is wrong! Xx

Emmasmum2013 · 06/06/2018 10:30

@Gem173 try not to worry yourself, I know its hard but its totally normal to not be exactly on target for the bump measurement, its only an indicator anyway. And you were saying that your mum delivered you a month early, so maybe your baby will come early too and be absolutely fine! They didn't have growth scans and midwife appointments back then like we do now. My mum is always amazed at the amount of info I can tell her about things.

One of my friends was so tiny all the way through her pregnancy and gave birth to a 10lb baby. I've no idea where she was storing him!!
Try and focus on the positives, I'm sure everything will be absolutely fine xx

Emmasmum2013 · 06/06/2018 10:31

I'd take the day off work if I were you @Gem173
I know you've said your boss doesn't take too kindly to it but fuck em.
You need to relax and process it all in your own time and in your own environment.

NikkiL123 · 06/06/2018 10:33

Has anyone bought a mattress for their pram? The flimsy bit of material it came with is crap but i can't find a mattress for the correct measurements, the closest i can find is 2cms too short do u think that would matter? Xx

BertieBotts · 06/06/2018 11:03

It might be OK if you never leave the baby unattended in it. If you want it for night time sleeps/unattended sleeps I'd want something flush.

What about one of those foam cut to size places? Perhaps they would do one. I don't know if there are special considerations for baby mattress foams though.

BertieBotts · 06/06/2018 11:04

Or you could get the foam made into a wedge for the foot end perhaps.

NikkiL123 · 06/06/2018 11:15

@BertieBotts thats a good idea actually getting some foam cut to fit, then i guess there are companies that do matress covers

YouCantBeSirius · 06/06/2018 11:52

I've just had my 32 week appointment. Everything is looking good. My bump measurement was a few weeks behind but the midwife wasn't concerned. I measured quite small with my daughter and she was over 9lbs so I'm not worried.

I've got an appointment in 2 weeks with my consultant so I'll be getting my section date then.

Gem173 · 06/06/2018 12:19

Thanks ladies for the reassuring messages. I’m okay now, it has sunk in and I’m trying to just plod on through the day and think nothing of it! Obviously I’m prepared for the worst but truly hope it’s just the way I’m carrying :) I guess all midwives do measure a little bit differently.
Does anyone know how soon the scan department get in touch for growth scans? Is it by mail or phone call? She did say both forms but she also said I should have the scan by Tuesday which makes mailing me a letter seem unlikely.
I’ve gone into work and tbh I feel better, it’s taken my mind off of it. My boss has been understanding and has said to come see her if anything is causing me stress. Also booked my next midwife appointment on 27th June at 9:40 when Il be 31 weeks xx

Gizzymum · 06/06/2018 16:42

@Gem173 try not to worry about the bump
measurements. There is a huge (and I mean HUGE) margin for error with these measurements (I googled stats last pregnancy). Midwives do them differently too - my current midwife appears to measure from a random point whereas my previous one did it from the top of my pelvis (I'm a physio and know that where my current midwife measures from is not some common body point). I think with DS1 I was measuring 2 weeks behind at 28wks and by week 38 was about 6 weeks behind. He was born smallish (6lb 3) but absolutely fine.

This time round I'm on the 10th centile (which means I'm measuring about 1.5weeks behind and I'm a second timer so should in theory be huge already ) but cos I'm on a line they weren't worried. She has mentioned that if I drop from the line I'll be sent for a growth scan but that's fine - an extra chance to see LO.

Where I live they call about growth scans as I think they have a number of slots a day used for emergency scans and growth scans. They fill up emergency slots first and then if there's any left over they use them for growth scans. It does mean I'd get phoned at 10.30/11am and be expected to be there for 1pm though but my work was quite good about it.

NikkiL123 · 06/06/2018 19:08

@BeesKnees9 sorry just seen your comment, my foot keeps going up and down 🤷🏼‍♀️ not painful just squidgy! Xx

NikkiL123 · 07/06/2018 06:31

Is anyone else having crazy dreams at the moment? You know the ones you practically have to do a lap of the garden until you realise it was just a dream?! Don't know if its pregnancy related but my dreams feel soooo real at the moment!

Emmasmum2013 · 07/06/2018 09:06

@NikkiL123
Same on the dreams! They're definitely pregnancy related. I think its the only thing I'll miss when I'm not pregnant. Its like a feature film every night! Mine mainly have people in who I've not spoken to or thought about it years popping up.

NikkiL123 · 07/06/2018 09:35

@Emmasmum2013 glad it's not just me! Although i wont miss these dreams, they are usually about my OH cheating on me with someone from work (we work at the same place!) x

TheMildManneredMilitant · 07/06/2018 18:07

Afternoon all. I was on the early threads but then lost track but just been catching up with everything so thought I should pop back in and say hello :)

Due 4th August with #3 so not that long really although am sooo over being pregnant. Everyone seems so organised...ours doesn't even have a bedroom yet it's still an office! In our defence we've been getting a lot of work done on the house and I do have a moses basket and enough to get through first few days if baby comes early but it's a far cry from dc1 who had an insta-perfect room by the time I was 6 months. I love seeing all of our pics though it's good inspiration.

BertieBotts · 07/06/2018 21:08

I'm having really weird vivid dreams too. I mentioned one on the Facebook page but I've had more since then, one was really scary, I was caught in some kind of police raid with policemen pointing guns at me and saying get down hands up! In the dream I was really panicky and crying saying I'm pregnant please get me out of here, it was so stressful!

peterpanwendy · 07/06/2018 21:16

@TheMildManneredMilitant don't worry our nursery isnt ready yet either! We're doing up our house and literally finished painting babies room today it's taken a couple of months between working full time/doing other bits! As long as you have the necessities ☺️
