Good luck to everyone having their 20 week scan this/next week :)

Thanks for ur comments will try really cold water and lay on my back. Will let you girls know xx

BertieBotts · 20/05/2018 13:25

I would go in Gem, to be honest. If it's been a day I wouldn't worry about trying water and things. That's what they recommend if you've been busy and aren't sure if there has been less movement, or not - not when you know there's been reduced movement.

It's likely that he's just shifted to another position but they won't mind monitoring you and it's better to be safe than sorry. It's 24 weeks, not 28 really.

SpriteGirl · 20/05/2018 13:37

My understanding was you don’t start monitoring a pattern until 28 weeks?

BertieBotts · 20/05/2018 13:41

Yep, I think they don't recommend to start monitoring until 28 weeks. But if a reduction is marked enough to notice before then, I would have thought that's still enough of a concern to get checked out. The main reason they don't ask you to monitor until later is because not everyone has a consistent pattern until later, so it can cause anxiety to be asked to do this if there isn't a pattern to see.

Gem173 · 20/05/2018 14:01

I did try the water and lie down and I got a few light movements. Not loads but a few movements to suggest he has shifted his position to be more comfier. I would call in but i don’t really want to cause hassle if I can feel him move only if a little bit! If he doesn’t pick up movements by tomorrow il ring up :)

nikkil123 · 20/05/2018 14:36

@Gem173 glad you got some movements hun hope they get stronger soon xx

BertieBotts · 20/05/2018 14:39

It's your call... but reduced movements can indicate distress, and distress isn't something you want to leave. Sorry I don't wish to be the voice of doom... you don't want to wait for there to be no movements at all is all I mean if that makes sense. I do see what you mean in that if it seems they're just happening in a different place it could be a shifted position.

peterpanwendy · 20/05/2018 17:20

How often do babies move position at the moment? Are they always head down or breech when they're this big or can they be lying sideways?

OP posts:
BertieBotts · 20/05/2018 17:22

Defo not fixed yet. And some babies can be transverse right up until birth, though who knows how they fit!

peterpanwendy · 20/05/2018 17:39

That's good to know @BertieBotts because I feel this little one kick in such random places sometimes quite far over to one side. And when she's sticking right out I swear I can feel a back or a bum!

Apparently you can work it out, I can't understand any of this though! Look at the handout PDF link. spinningbabies.com/learn-more/baby-positions/belly-mapping/

Gem173 · 20/05/2018 19:35

Hey ladies, baby is moving! Went to the shop bought 6 packets of refreshers and 3 mini fantas, just drank one mini can of Fanta and ate a whole packet of reshreshers and stayed on my left side. I’m aiming to stay led like this for two hours, however I started kick counting as soon as I was led down and got 10 kicks in under 10 minutes! Safe to say he’s doing okay was just a quiet day! I spoke to midwife and she didn’t want me to come in until I had tried the lie down after sugar thing. Safe to say it worked :) will be keeping an eye on him for a bit anyway. Hope you guys had a good day xx

nikkil123 · 20/05/2018 20:00

@Gem173 thats great news so glad everything is ok! Wow thats a lot of kicks! I never feel more than 2 or 3 movements in a row?! 🤔 xx

BertieBotts · 20/05/2018 20:05

Yay! :)

Nikki not to worry, every baby's movement pattern is different, it's important to know what's normal for yours so you can pick up on any changes.

nikkil123 · 20/05/2018 20:18

Thanks @BertieBotts xx

couchgriffon · 20/05/2018 21:56

Gem173 That's brilliant news! So pleased for you! Smile

Anyone else who's started nesting already? This past week I've gone mad with cleaning the house; and I just finished wiping the walls and cleaning the oven at 10 PM! I just feel soooo restless and it kills the time, pluss my DP is very pleased Grin

SpriteGirl · 20/05/2018 22:09

@couchgriffon yes! I’ve started washing down all the skirting boards and I’ve got it in my head I’m going to make strawberry jam!

Gem173 · 21/05/2018 06:31

Same here! Yesterday I cleaned nearly everything! Only exception is our wood flooring in our living room and that’s because I can’t move the sofa on my own! Really wanted to clean it yesterday but oh told me to chill out and relax, leave it for another day! I had a strong urge to hit him lol

nikkil123 · 21/05/2018 06:36

Ive not had the chance yet, my OH is seriously OCD clean so he does most jobs before i even think of them!

nikkil123 · 21/05/2018 06:41

Is anyone else's skin currently the worst it's ever been?! It was defo clearer when i wasnt pregnant! Wheres 'The Glow'?!?!

Gem173 · 21/05/2018 07:05

Also ditto my face is horrendous, I gave up with makeup after finding out I’m pregnant. So I try to see it as natural beauty but I don’t think natural beauty classes as pepperoni pizza!

nikkil123 · 21/05/2018 07:32

It is nice but sometimes i would rather of an evening he would make dinner, wash up, take the dog for a walk and put the rabbits to bed! (I am a secret crazy bunny lady shhhh!!)
