Lwatkins - is your Mum nesting for you osmotically?

Deffo the dark green cabbage leaves for your nipples SOH, sorry to hear that they are so sore now, maybe they will be ok after the baby is born? [hopeful emoticon]

Just been to midwofe, baby now 3/5 engaged, but rather dreary midwife (think, Victoria Wood plays kindly but bored to tears midwife) said this means nothing. sigh just feeling like every day without the baby is like a wasted day of maternity leave - I couldn't have gone on any longer at work, but it just feels like a big waste of time. Also, I am spending loads of money, today I have had my eyebrow and lip waxed (not too painful, and as the beautician pointed out, good preparation for childbirth, which will sting considerably more), bought a dress and some shoes for me post baby, pj bottoms for dh, a water filter, a cot mobile, Lanisoh cream (see, SOH, you inspire us all) and some more baby vests. Nothing not needed or too expensive (dress and shoes were from seconds place and came to grand total of £17 altogether) but it all adds up.

No baby yet today?

MKG · 09/05/2007 16:07

Hey everyone. I'm still here, still pregnant. Not too much to say. I keep losing more of my show, but nothing pink, so am not too excited.

cinnamontam · 09/05/2007 16:24

My NCT ante-natal lady said green Savoy cabbage is the only way to go SOH. Wish I were closer, I'd pop out and deliver you some. Surely someone can get it to you?? Sorry you are in such pain...such a drag

BefnalBub · 09/05/2007 16:42

Hallo all!
back from Devon and finally up to date on the threads since thurs - quite a read!

TYG & JW I've emailed both of you.

Quick TMI question - a bit behind eveyone as not due until 26 May so some of you may have had this already... Yesterday on the train back I had a BH(?) that was so strong it made me leak a bit of ?

Has anyone else experienced this?

twelveyeargap · 09/05/2007 16:50

SOH, do you have any potatoes in the house? Just been googling and cold grated potato poultice may help... Supposed to draw the heat out of any inflammation. If they're itchy, it's suggested to try 1 tablespoon of white vinegar in a cup of water and you soak each nipple in the cup (by leaning over I presume!) for about a minute. You could try just warmed olive oil or if you have yellow dock growing near you, by the river maybe, then you can infuse the root of yellow dock into the oilve oil.r

LG&T - KK's on the way.

Madeindevon - FWIW, I think with teenagers, you need to be consistent and firm; that's the main thing. I'm sure your SD needs a certain amount of reassurance, but I think you're right that "giving in" to everything is wrong. I suspect that after the baby is born and things settle that she will too. Otherwise, sometimes a few well placed home truths don't go amiss with teenagers. Eg "The baby gets everything she wants? No, she gets what she needs, AFTER you and your siblings get everything you need. Dad's salary goes to you first, then us. Only after everyone has what they need do we consider what we want." That sort of thing. It's a last resort of course, but sometimes they need a bit of waking up out of the "Me, me, me" thing that teenagers do.

MKG · 09/05/2007 17:04

Befnal,

It may just be extra discharge. I'm due the 26 and I've been getting loads of discharge. Next time you get it do the sniff test. Fluid should have a "sweeter" smell than urine or discharge.

aprilmeadow · 09/05/2007 18:37

Things are hotting up for you ladies! I really hope that the babies are all good and arrive close to or on the due dates.

SOH - look out for a little package winging its way to you.

So hopefully we should have 2 new additions to the May 07 family

Nothing interesting to report here.

twelveyeargap · 09/05/2007 18:37

InTheseShoes, I know what you mean about wasting time on your MAT leave, but don't forget that it's important for you to feel relaxed and well rested before you have the baby. The time you have off is doing you good - you won't have much time to yourself afterwards so make the most of it!

InTheseShoes · 09/05/2007 18:40

TYG - what amazing information you got from google! I have a vision of trying to get a nipple into a cup of vinegar (although with my norks, it would be less of a cup and more of a soup terrine) just as a visitor drops by unexpectedly!

InTheseShoes · 09/05/2007 18:43

TYG - you are very wise, and my mother has just said the same thing on the phone (not that I am insinuating that you are my mother, as you are considerably younger than me that is not at all possible!!) I remember feeling the same last time and then longing for the lazy days once ds was here, just for some peace and quiet!! It's more the feeling that I'm going to be leaving him/her in January to go back to work, and the older he/she is, the better! Thanks for your support

Where is everyone today, is there some kind of simultaneous May 07 Labour Fest going on and me and TYG haven't been invited??

twelveyeargap · 09/05/2007 18:43

I think I'd have to at least use a cereal bowl, but there you go. I love Google. It's my friend.

twelveyeargap · 09/05/2007 18:46

I think that must be the case. Tch.

Am going for acupuncture tomorrow for my carpal tunnel. Apparently the woman I'm seeing specialises in pregnancy and children so I'm going to "suggest" she "prepares" me for labour... "MAKE THIS BABY COME OUT! NOW!"

Awh, it's just that I'm all ready. Hair is nice and clean and straight. Legs reasonably hairless. House clean. Bikkies for midwives as yet unsnaffled by me... The sooner the better really.

BIRTH ANNOUNCEMENT

Hi girls. Just a quickie to let you know that Ruby Alice was born yesterday at 13.11 weighing 7lb 9oz. Had a bit of a scary experience which I'll update you on maybe tomorrow when I've got a bit less to do. We are both fine but ds has just thrown up and has a temperature so I guess it's back to the real world and coping with 2 kids!!

ShowOfHands · 09/05/2007 19:32

There's a veritable abundance of yellow dock by the river. It's very good for lots of things, didn't think it might be good for ridiculously painful nipples. I'm going to pick some and make a poultice with it. I can wholly concur that I would need a saucepan for dangling norks into and am fairly sure that if I was attempting to lean said sore area into named saucepan I would lose balance, trip and end up topless on the kitchen floor, reeking of vinegar and in need of medical assistance. Might try it and use it as a trial-run for the indignity of birth.

Quick homebirth question: how do you not eat the biscuits that have been bought for the midwives? I've been very good at not drinking the Lucozade but the biscuits keep calling my name. Did you know my DH suggested I am addicted to gingerbread this morning? He's a cheeky sod.

Anybody having a baby today then?

ShowOfHands · 09/05/2007 19:34

AbbyLou! That's fantastic news. Ruby Alice is a beautiful name. Hope you're okay, don't try and do too much real world stuff. So pleased for you.
xx

twelveyeargap · 09/05/2007 19:45

Hurrah! That's great news AbbyLou. Have added you to the birth stats thread. Hope DS isn't too poorly.

SOH - the website suggested yellow dock root warmed for 10 mins in olive oil then strained and applied. However, given that I'd rather you didn't go outdoors with a spade, I reckon you could give the leaves a whirl in the manner of the savoy cabbage.

twelveyeargap · 09/05/2007 19:46

Oh and I do keep snaffling the bikkies. However have recently replenished the stock, so currently there is a supply...

InTheseShoes · 09/05/2007 19:48

Congratulations AbbyLou and welcome to the world Ruby Alice - what a beautiful name!

scootermum · 09/05/2007 19:55

Congrats Abbylou! What a lovely name too!Cant wait to hear all about it!

Lol at your vinegar pans and poultices all of you..green cabbage is the bunny though..wear those funny sheile things I sent you SOH? Might stop clothes rubbing and making it worse? All my sympathies though, nothing worse than on fire nips..

I dont know how any of you are managing to keep your hands off the midwifes biscuits..(theres a porn film title in there somewhere!)..There is no food in our house at all, becuase I have eaten it-am waiting desperately for the Tesco delivery to come..the man had better watch out lest I leap on him in a bid to get to my chocolate!

love your Mum lwatkins..so nice-she sounds sooo excited..Mrs JB's right though, second or third time around you dont seem to get half the fuss..

Took DD to get some more shoes today and her feet havent grown at all so she didnt need them..so spent the money on some for me instead and also got myself a T-shirt for afterwards, to be my Thinspiration garment,(great minds think alike Intheseshoes) then went to Boots and spent quite a bit on shampoo and things I dont need and baby clothes that I also dont need, but feck it-I am saving £560 a month on the cm at the mo, and still getting paid full wages for the next three months, plus felt I needed a wee pick me up..

I get it quite a bit now Befnal-joys of Motherhood..

Love the Costco TYG-could be in there hours with all the bargains!

Slouch dress is a sort of baggy frock SOH, best ones are apparently folk inspired prints, so right up your st, but maxi dress also lovely, nice onein New Look today, £25 only...

Did you say 10 weeks for weight loss Mrs JB?(Scoot gawps in awe)It took me 9 months, then I got pg again..would ypu say you found it easier or harder second time..(Scoot hoping for the latter!)

cinnamontam · 09/05/2007 20:01

Abbylou That is wonderful news. Congrats...gorgeous name

scootermum · 09/05/2007 20:02

Forgot to say, left my purse on the roof of my car today largegandt, and actually drove off..fortunately a car wash man saw and ran after me and gave it back to me as I was waiting to leave, what a prince, couldve kised him...dont think I should be allowed out either.

Surveyor said house was fine too..at most a bit of the roof may need repointing, but he said it would be good for at least another 10 years and in any case wasnt a big job..so thats a relief..ruddy numpty buyers though, now sure they were taking the piss, probably because they were aware I am heavily pg and thought would just buckle..buggers!

Mrsjaffabiffa · 09/05/2007 20:05

Fantastic news AbbyLou, CONGRATULATIONS

Scoot, I'm a bit of an all talker for Slimming World, I lost 5 stone with them between having H and Maddie. It wasn't baby weight though I was always large. It's a Slimming world statement. "You can loose a stone in 4 weeks, 2 in 10" LOL, I did when I started it but that was not staight after birth, whilst BF with limited excersise and feeling knackard. I would like to shed a stone in the 6 weeks or so before the wedding though.

scootermum · 09/05/2007 20:08

blimey, is it like meetings then, ala weight watchers? And an eating list?Im goig to give it a go with results like those..My mate swears by Rosemary Conley club, but Im not keen on the Conley at the best of times..

ShowOfHands · 09/05/2007 20:13

I'm diametrically opposed to dieting. I eat healthily and I'm active. I really want to know if I'm going to lose any weight before this wedding. Even if Mathilda's late I'll still have 5 weeks but am aware that I can't exercise. I'm still going to be a heifer aren't I? Gah!
