LOL Foxy...a friend of mine lives 2 doors away from the village pub, and they take the monitor with them when they go for a drink, leaving the baby sleeping nicely at home.....

hollyandalice · 30/04/2007 20:15

It wasn't pointy and it was closed, I know that coz she can't open them! She seems to be fine, but I think I'll have her in bed with me tonight just to be sure.

That's the main reason I co-slept foxy! I couldn't be arsed to get up to bf, I just lopped out a boob and let her get on with it!

notsolilKel · 30/04/2007 20:29

OMG a hairclip. Will the dangers never cease?? I hope she's OK!! (now we're all on poo patrol for your poor daughter - ROFL thinking about her finding this out in 5 years' time!)

I know some people prefer cosleeping and if so, grand, but for us, our goal was to have DS in his own room and settled - I was afraid of sleeping with him for safety and later dependency reasons. Just so happened that he outgrew the moses basket at 1mo and mum was visiting at the time, so we popped him in his room with her. He never came back to ours! Also our room is nearly completely taken up with our giant bed so no room for bigger cot.

Ditto the monitor coming in useful when partaking of booze in the back garden/hotel bar/anywhere 200m or less away!! I will say it was worthwhile paying up for the digital kind (e.g. BT), it's got the clearest reception whereas the cheap ones I've used while visiting rellies are just crap and you can hear aliens on Mars but not your kid upstairs...

I know, I never would have thought she'd swallow one, she's not one for swallowing things (except food!!). I'll give her lots of raisins and fruit puree tomorrow to help it on its way!

I was so paranoid about sids that I wanted my dd right next to me so I could just touch her and make sure she was ok. Hopefully I'll be much more relaxed this time coz my worrying and fussing really ruined the first few months.

sputnik · 30/04/2007 20:45

funny, when I had DD I thought max 3 months in our room. She's still there , though not much longer as DH might actually finish painting her room tomorrow.
I loved cosleeping, I'm another one to lazy to get out of bed to bf, it really made that a lot easier. Since she was 10 months or so she's been in a sort of side-car cot arrangement, so everyone gets their space.
And you can have sex with a baby in the room you know, they do sleep sometimes

hollyandalice · 30/04/2007 20:51

If I hadn't become pg I think dd would still be in bed with us! Funnily enough dp was really upset when she stopped sleeping in our bed! He loved having her next to us, even more so than me! We had a mattress by our bed, but she always ended up in with us!

hollyandalice · 30/04/2007 20:52

Hi rabbitbreath!! Hope all is well with you, welcome!

doggus · 30/04/2007 20:58

Daisy - don't forget I am a naive first timer, I will probably first have sex when she goes to school. Certainly poor Mr Doggus isn't getting any atm.

H&A - for the hairclip. Get a knife to examine the poo (just don't forget to throw it out afterwards).

foxybrown · 30/04/2007 20:59

Welcome Rabbitbreath. How are you doing?

I need to go to bed. I feel shite. This baby is nestling into my bowl.

BBC1 Thurs 8pm, Panorama special on MWs. Probably a better idea to tape it and watch it in July!

foxybrown · 30/04/2007 21:00

Bowl? Am I still here talking shite?

Bowel.

foxybrown · 30/04/2007 21:01

was wondering where you were Doggus.

Would HV Derlor advise having sex before the 6 week check to ensure all working well?

Daisybump · 30/04/2007 21:06

Hi Rabbitbreath....are you new?...or an oldie who's come back to the fold?......welcome either way

bumperlicious · 30/04/2007 21:09

Hi all

Hope DD is ok Holly, wincing at the pooing prospect for her.

Just been to antenatal classes (finally). I was the furthest one along (and certainly not the biggest by far - result!). They weren't particularly friendly, maybe should've done NCT to make friends, but quite frankly would rather have a few new pairs of shoes than friends! Plus, I've got you guys!

Anyway, feeling pretty positive about it all as the midwife was talking about lots of things that I wanted e.g. giving birth in upright position, waiting for the cord to stop pulsating before clamping, immediate skin to skin for at least half an hour, and encouraging an unmanaged 3rd stage if all else has gone well. Pretty pleased that this is all standard for them. Had a tour round the labour unit though which brought it all home. Wasn't too bad, though still a bit clinical. Heart nearly stopped when she pointed out the hoist that runs from birthing pool to the bed in case you collapse in the pool. Was all much better than I expected, but we aren't talking about pain relief for another 3 weeks and quite frankly could be popping this sprog by then!

foxybrown · 30/04/2007 21:16

that's good news Bumper - am glad you've come back feeling positive! Don't worry if it wasn't friendly, everyone's probably shitting themselves.

I remember when I did mine and freaking out because when it came to the labour ward tour, one of our group was in there having had hers.

Daisybump · 30/04/2007 21:28

bugger...LO has hiccups again....been getting lots of it this last week or so...not funny at 3am

Daisybump · 30/04/2007 21:31

Bumper...my ante-natal class with DS were a bit po-faced and not terribly friendly as well....the only girl who spoke to me was the other single mum in the group....i haven't bothered this time...I'm hoping it's a bit like riding a bike

bumperlicious · 30/04/2007 21:36

Right, sorry for the brief visit but off to sit on my swiss ball to try and relive my immense discomfort! By the way, would definitely recommend perineal massage. I know I haven't given birth yet but there is a definite difference since DH first started

doggus · 30/04/2007 21:37

Hi foxy! Are you not supposed to have sex for 6 weeks after the baby or something? I got told that when I had my big gynae op, and did it anyway after four weeks, was fine, more embarrassed at the old-fashioned surgeon somehow finding out at the 6 week check.

And bumper, thanks for letting us know what happened at the ante-natal, mine is in a couple of weeks, NHS too, as I'm with you in the I'd rather have new shoes argument! As for making friends, I am going to do some research in my GP surgery tomorrow as they might have good mum and baby stuff. What was the age group like? Dh is shitting himself, being 50, he thinks all the other fathers will be teenagers (actaully Poole has a high teen mum rate so he might be right!).

foxybrown · 30/04/2007 21:41

something like that

bumperlicious · 30/04/2007 21:41

Hi doggus, age range range was mixed, DH was probably the oldest there, but not obviously so. I'm going to try bumps and babies classes when LO is born to try and make friends. TBH, I'm not really in a friend making place at the moment, IYKWIM. I'm just too tired and not good with change at the moment!

Btw Doggus, I'm going to order one of those slings soon, still fancy one?

foxybrown · 30/04/2007 21:43

all depends on what happens during the birth I think. i've not had stitches (yet) so had a very quick recovery each time.

anyone uses the word 'bucket' and you're in trouble!!!

foxybrown · 30/04/2007 21:44

baby massage is lovely - I'd recommend it

Daisybump · 30/04/2007 21:45

Doggus...your health visiting team probably organise a new mums group at your surgery and there should be something on the board about it. My HV said that although I'm not a new mum as such I'm welcome to go along as it's been a long time since DS and I'm relatively new to the area....like you though, this area has quite a high teen mum rate so not sure they'll be overly friendly to someone who's as old as their own mums

bumperlicious · 30/04/2007 21:46

Yeah, my local Neal's Yard does baby massage - can't wait to give it a go!
