Morning............

Are your children’s vaccines up to date?
InTheseShoes · 27/04/2007 14:36

Hello everyone - back from my shopping trip, exchanged my bras for the most ridiculous sized nursing bras ever. There is a small prize of a completely pain free birth)* to anyone who can accurately guess the size I have had to buy today. I have tempered it with the purchase of a pair of silver ballet pumps (one size larger than ususal as my feet are swollen) and a bag of vest tops/Orla Kiely-esque purses from Primark. Am knackered, and ds has a friend for tea tonight, ho hum.

cameroonmama, spill the beans about the Portland - is it you that is really Jordan? Or are you Posh Spice???

InTheseShoes · 27/04/2007 14:37

*NB - not available in the UK/France/USA

cameroonmama · 27/04/2007 14:38

OMG inthese shoes, I've been outed

scootermum · 27/04/2007 14:49

I KNEW it!
I KNEW you were really Jordan Cameroonmama...

Are the Golden Arches not already in Nairobi then?Must be the only place they arent..maybe DH and I will join you over there and he could be head of MCD'S Nairobi Operations..

DH is on a revision course today somewhere in Kings Cross. He just called and is in a foul mood.I can give him no quarter today as not feeling very chipper myself tryng to do this unfathomable unit on the promotion of diversity, rights and Equal Opps in care settings, (achingly dull) so he will be a bit huffy now when I speak to him later..DD has just gone out to the Farm so better crack on I suppose..trouble is there is a bed in the room at Mums where im working and my word does it look tempting..

scootermum · 27/04/2007 14:49

38 G Intheseshoes?

cameroonmama · 27/04/2007 15:11

42 G intheseshoes? Then its more likely you to be Jordan than me

ShowOfHands · 27/04/2007 16:01

Strategic consulting? Now you see that's just a euphemism for spy isn't it cameroonmama? You're actually Mrs James Bond aren't you? I've looked at your profile and those children of yours are beautiful. I don't know what the second picture is, there's a cabinet with some DVDs and some daffodils but nothing else. In the right light at a squiffy angle you can almost see a person turned sideways but I see no evidence of a ridiculously stupendous bump so I refuse to believe my eyes. If I turn sideways Norfolk gets darker by 10%. And the coastguard rocks up and the climate changes drastically and the ducks fall asleep etc etc.

Thanks for all the kind words re my royal birthing experience (that is in fact what it is now I come to think of it). You are all of course right being the wisest women on the web but the reality of trying to rectify months of planning on their parts is impossible. I broached the subject with my own DM and she got that quivery bottom lip look and started with 'it's the first grandchild, I won't hold her I just want to see her when she's new, this only happens once, please' bit. I'm her only DD, it's unlikely my brother and his wife will have children together (she has children from her first marriage) and she would actually respect my wishes entirely, wouldn't swoop in, would wait outside and not say a word and would stay for no more than a few minutes. She's done so much for us- has bought all the practical cotton wool/wipes/muslins etc anybody could want, plus so much more besides and I don't want to disappoint her. That said, let her be here, you have to let the MIL, let the MIL she'll bring the FIL, let the FIL, along comes farmer Giles and his flock of sheep. Gah! If I let them know right at the end then my Mum'll be here first- she lives half the distance away that the ILs do. Maybe that'd make her feel special and appreciated if she's the first visitor. Keep an eye out in the papers 'Norfolk woman invites crowd to birth- fabulous pictures on page 10 of the excited masses eating icecream while the hardy woman moos and grunts like one of Farmer Giles' own'. I'm doomed.

They said on the weather this morning that Norfolk would be dull and overcast. Lying sods. Its boiling hot and I'm melting all over the laptop. Rain, dammit. I hate the heat.

Toomanyprojects must be so excited!

Mrsjaffabiffa · 27/04/2007 16:03

Yey for the more bump pics coming up. I'll do mine later when dh home from work.

Had a nice time at the lake although Maddie did nearly drown. Not really, Bless, she was all disorientated after a little sit down and then went wondering the wrong way into the lake. She did end up right under the water eyes wide open like the swimming baby advert, I did have to move fairly fast to pull her up. Opps, she was fine though a bit of a water babe.

Don't have lg norks to compare with you guys, I'm only a 38C at the mo, will push D - DD with milk but thats it. Will then return fast to an A once the life has been sucked out of me for mths and I've returned to 10stone. lol

notsolilKel · 27/04/2007 16:19

hello!! think I win prize (can it be painfree birth, pls?) for smallest norks here. 36B. yes, sad, but true

anyway re feeding preference - not necessarily planning on bottle feeding from the start this time round, but had to with DS at least partially from day 2 (he was in special care, long story) so am prepared for anything. Hoping I can breastfeed a bit longer than 1 mo this time without contracting nightmare mastitis.

Re bottles, I found I used boatloads of smaller (4o type) bottles in the first few months, maybe a dozen in use at any time. Some always dirty, partially filled, yadda yadda. Problem was with DS that the ones I initially bought (Avent) didn't work with him. Spent bloody fortune on bottles in the end, trying every brand and teat type known to man. Alas.

My fave feeding chart (babywhisperer) recommends the following in terms of qty:
days 1-3: 2oz every 2 hrs, or 5-15 minutes on each breast
up to 6wks: 2-5oz every 2.5-3hrs, or 45 mins breasttime
6wks -4mo: 4-6oz every 3.5-4hrs, or 30 mins breasttime

nb, it's assumed during nightime sleep that there's a bigger gap than 2/3/4 hours.

HTH!

aprilmeadow · 27/04/2007 16:22

SOH i can confirm that the gingerbread bunnies were in fact from Morrisons!

I have to agree with pebble re the labour breathing for when you need a number 2 after labour! Thought i was giving birth again - owww eeeee!! Just eat lots of licorice, fruit and maybe the odd senokot tablet!!

Well work sacked my replacement last night!!! That has left them totally shafted! So got a nice phone call from male boss this morning asking if i could pop in and asnwer a query he has with our management system.....We (ella and i) were there 3 hours! Mrsjb, i hold my hand out for a smack!!

Sky - congrats on getting to 40wks!!

LW - i am so at your housemates. I just hope that your accomm manager understands your situation.

aprilmeadow · 27/04/2007 16:28

forgot to say - nice bump Cam! Cant wait to see more

Mrsjaffabiffa · 27/04/2007 16:44

AM; well and truly slapped. Naughty you!!!!!!!! You're just too nice.

OP posts:
scootermum · 27/04/2007 16:52

It does, thanks Kel..Snap on the boob size as well!Plus mine have never altered throughout either PG or Breast feeding-its very dissappointing as thought might end up with the bigger boobs have always wanted, but just got the arse of J-LO instead and the thighs of Jeff Capes instead..not what I asked for..
DD used to be on my breast for at a minimum an hour and 20 mins a feed..poor sap she couldnt get enough milk out and by the time we'd finished one feed she was about half an hour away from the next being due according to the times suggested by the HV..So basically I walked around with a baby permanently attached to me at all times..thus bottles for me this time.Except I will then probably spend the whole time with bottle brush in hand so either way im on a loser!

One essay out of the three I need to do complete, am now having a break, dd back from farm..

Lwatkins · 27/04/2007 17:04

I've put some more bump pics on my profile, 36 week one is quite shocking - I'm officially huge and starting to feel like I'm gonna fall over when I stand up

SOH with regards to your homebirth, do what you feel your comfortable with. Bless your little knitted socks, your far too nice in wanting to please everyone else - you should be pleasing yourself. Family can have all the time they want with Mathilda after the birth. They need to give you some space my sweet.

Scooter hope you manage to get some work done. Know how you feel, have loads to do but just keep looking at my bed.

Mrsjb at Maddie falling in the lake and having a near death experience at such a young age! Hope she is ok

Notsolilkel I'll second you on the small tits. SNAP - 36B. Depressing isn't it?! There I was thinking I'd get hoooonin boobies but alas, it was not meant to be.

AM, another slap on the wrist from me. Naughty lady going into work for them. You've just had a baby, bugger them at work. Put your feet up and relax - whilst you can

Waving to everyone else, hello

All these stories of the first wee and poo, making me all nervous. Have heard that it's best to drink loads of water though so that when you pee it's less concentrated so it doesn't sting as much. Pleasant stuff aye......

cameroonmama · 27/04/2007 17:08

Scoot, well done on the essay front, keep it going! Come join us in Nairobi, we need some more mulitnational clients to boost our coffers, forget the ethics of selling fast food to poor impoverished Kenyans, Guinness (dh former employer, not MI5 take note) never worried too much, nor the mobile phone people, besides I have rediscovred the joys of a filet-o-fish since my return but am a bit confused as to why the serving yoofs can't seem to pronounce it properly

LilKel - I'm with you on the norks front - I am huge, 36B, stretching to a 36c when the baby comes! Disappointing..

Thanks for the flattering comments re my bump, however I must point out that a: i was wearing black and b: it was taken MONTHS ago. Nowadays I get stuck in the aisle at the cash desk in the supermarket, if I turn around too quickly.

April I am that you went into work.

Mrs JB, quelle maman, letting your child drown like that

aprilmeadow · 27/04/2007 17:52

Wow LW that is an impressive bump!! Nice and neat though!

My wrists are quite red now from the slaps they have received I just cant help myself.

Gingerbear · 27/04/2007 17:54

I have finished work today!!!!! Huzzah!
Got a lovely bunch of flowers and £40 to spend on ahem, baby things. (Had my eye on a lovely pair of sandals).
Groan, have been put on iron tablets, but they are making me sick and runny poo, so I am off to Holland and Barrett for Floradix or Spatone instead.
It will be nice to chill for a few (hopefully) weeks - I have 4 weeks left until baby is due.

Gingerbear · 27/04/2007 17:59

Ah, I just remembered - I promised any collection for 'A Mile for Maude'.
Much better than sandals

MKG · 27/04/2007 18:05

Am on my way out to OB/GYN will update you on all the detail of my fanjo later.

But for now I would like to rant about how I'm sick of people telling me how hard it is to have two. My sister keeps telling me how hard it is, and how her life is so difficult with two, and how I'm not ready for two etc. . . .

My attitude is that I will take it as it comes, and it is only as hard as I perceive it to be. I know it won't be easy at first, but my attitude has always been that I will roll with the punches and take every day as it comes.

So tell me I'm right and that my sister is just being an uptight bitch (most days she is).

ShowOfHands · 27/04/2007 18:13

I don't think anybody's experiences are ever comparable. Hence why I'm fed up with 'ooh you won't cope without an epidural stories' from people who've had them. How exactly do you know how I am likely to react in any given situation?

I know when my friend went from 1 to 2 she actually found it so much easier than others had threatened. The eldest was old enough to be excited and want to help and didn't need such individual attention all the time as she was happy to dote on her baby brother. She also learnt a lot of lessons about sharing and being quiet etc. And the rewards of having 2 completely outweighs any initial fatigue in her case. They are great friends.

Gingerbear, I too eschewed the iron tablets and took Spatone instead. Spatone has no artificial stuff in it like Floradix does if you can't decide which to get.

MKG · 27/04/2007 18:14

Thanks SOH, by the way you can cope without an epidural I did, and I would reccommend childbirth without one to anyone who is willing.

cameroonmama · 27/04/2007 18:14

MKG - I find life MUCH easier with 2! I remember finding it so difficult to keep dd occupied on her own and sometimes it was tedious but with 2 it is much more interesting and now they play/fight with each and conversations are definitely more interesting! The only thing that worries me about having 3 is trying to fit them all in the car at the same time, but compared to LG&T I should have it easy

InTheseShoes · 27/04/2007 18:16

Right, I'm awarding a small prize to scootermum for guessing the back size - 38. However, there is woeful underestimation of the cup size. Let's put it this way; there are tents in the Gobi Desert with less material than my nursing bras.

Aprilmeadow, consider yourself chastised by me also

Mrs jb, sorry to hear of your dd's experience - hope you're all ok.

Lwatkins · 27/04/2007 18:33

It's hideous isn't it? It's not natural to be this big, it can't be!

Has everyone else seen that thread about the mother who has set up an account for her child's birthday present at John Lewis and asked that instead of presents, people pay money into the account? What's the world coming to? I remember when birthday parties were about running around like a mental patient, drinking too much fizzy pop, eating cake and playing games.

aprilmeadow · 27/04/2007 18:41

MrsJB - how scary for you and M. Hope you are both ok now.

Gingerbear - congrats on finishing work

MKG - I am finding 2 children nice and esy at the moment. J is being fairly good and Ella just feeds, sleeps, poos/wees, feeds, sleeps, poos/wees. everyone has different experiences. This time round you know what to expect and you will feel far more confident and relaxed

I will go and sit in the corner now as I have been well and truely told off. Just had mum and dh tell me off as well
