Kyte - You are no different from the rest of us! Its easy to give advice to someone else but never easy to take it ourselves it seems.
If you are really worried why not call the midwife and have a chat?

Hope you feel better soon. Big hugs

Firststar - I have to admit I have 'invented' a few appointments too!!!!

Just makes life easier!

Myfairone · 06/06/2007 15:30

Kyte - I am a first time Mum at 37 and really think I should know better.

But 'hey ho' I am sure they are used to it and there is no such thing as a stupid question or worry!

What amazes me is that when I first got pregnant I thought that I would stop worrying at 12 weeks. Then when I hit 12 weeks I worried about getting to the 20 week stage and the scan. After that I worried about the 24 weeks when its seen as 'viable' (hate that word) and the pattern continues!

So basically the advice to new pregnant women should be...'be prepared to worry from not till the birth and then for the next 18 years at least!!!!'

Hope your okay Kyte.

Firststar -

Chooster ? the bit about PE related swelling not going down is good news, as my ankles DO go down overnight, and hands DO go down a bit if I do enough exercises. Thanks.

Anyway BP OK, but some protein found. Not enough to worry about at moment they said, but MW doing home visit on Saturday to check BP and urine again and in the meantime if I have any bad headaches or visual disturbances to go straight to delivery ward. Good job they did BP before I went to chemist though. Tried to hand in form to order rental of TENS machine. Pharmacy lady didn?t know anything about it and was MOST unhelpful. Ended up having a bit of an argument which I'm not proud of at all, but I just got so annoyed at her attitude. Tried to moan to DH about it but he just got that I'd caused a scene. Now trying to rest and forget about it before BP rockets though. Hopefullt relexology session tonight will make me feel better.

Kyte, sorry I can?t add anything concrete, but I?d go along with what firststar said.

Myfairone, an ex-boss of mine said that once she got pregnant it was worry every day. Worry each morning until she felt it move and then after it was born worry each morning until she heard it breathing.

And I should have said it before, but Pookey, good luck for you Dad. Hope all goes well.

weddingcake · 06/06/2007 18:08

Glad to hear your appointment was 'ok ish' Jamantha and hope everything stays stable for you.

Don't know if you're interested but when they told me I had mild pre eclampsia I bought a home bp monitor from a lloyds chemist for £10 and have been keeping an eye on things myself partly because I'm sure my readings in the surgery are affected by factors such as how easy it was for me to find a parking place etc. and partly because I feel so generally rough and out of it these days that I wasn't sure I'd recognise any of the danger signs. So far so good though!

Pookey - thinking of you and your family at the moment. Not sure what we can do to help in the cyber world but do let us know if there is anything.

Kyte - the internet is a wonderful but dangerous invention. When I had my early bleeding I spent hours searching for a case study of a woman who'd had EXACTLY the same pattern as me but with a positive outcome and drove myself utterly insane in the process. I'm sure all will be fine but I know exactly how you're feeling. Hopefully the midwife will be helpful at the weekend. I'm rubbish at links but a site I have found useful and reassuring is midwivesonline.com. and I think you can even e mail them individual queries.

Unfortunately I saw a rather abrupt midwife this morning for my routine 34 week check. She didn't bother to read my notes, wasn't interested in what's been happening over the past few weeks when I tried to tell her/ask her a couple of questions and got stroppy when I told her I wasn't going to antenatal classes without letting me explain that it was because I've been recommended bedrest.

I came away really despondent which is such a shame because everyone I saw at the hospital when they admitted me on Monday was really lovely and I'd stopped being quite so scared about actually having this baby.

She also really panicked me about the fact that I'm not going to antenatal classes so even though I'm reading lots if anyone gets told anything in theirs that they think is a really useful tip then please to pass it on!

I'd be particularly interested in advice for partners because I think the whole experience is going to be quite a shock for mine!

MelissaM · 06/06/2007 18:12

(somehow I managed not to post this last night. I will catch up with the other messages sortly).
Sorry to hear about your scare weddingcake. Glad all ok now.
I also agree with the bikini line comments. I've been trying to tidy up before appointments too. Not always successfully, but not sure I am prepared to let DH help, as I normally have to tidy up his neck after he's shaved cos he's missed loads! I've been shaving blind as it were for weeks now. DH bought me an epilator, but I just can't stand the pain! Fine on my legs though Might book a wax when I've finished work.
Lynnec, goodluck with the waxing. ouch

Miaou - glad to hear move went well and that you are settling in. Congrats.

Groveregg, at least you've made a list! Making a list is still on my to-do-list!

Firstar, I might give word ago too.

Typhoonsmum - ??? re mw. I'd have thought she'd take some blood if she wasn't sure. Mine took some because she thought I looked a bit pale (I hadn't bother putting my makeup on).

Jamantha · 06/06/2007 18:18

Mmmm, not sure if I'm allowed back in Lloyd's pharmacy after this afternoon! Meant to be going back tomorrow though to see if the woman has found out what to do with my TENS order. Hopefully it'll go a bit more smoothly tomorrow.

Catz · 06/06/2007 18:55

Wedding cake - I don't think it's a problem not going to antenatal classes if you've read up on what happens - TBH I find a lot of the experiences on here more useful (combined with books). So far the only things I've got from them that I hadn't already got those ways are (1) a go on the gas and air (2) finding out that the delivery ward has CD players and birth balls in all of the rooms (3) finding out that I could transfer to a midwife centre after the birth even if I gave birth in hospital. That's it. In fact the NHS breastfeeding one worried me more than anything as they were so mindlessly positive about it they put me off (and I intend to breastfeed). Lots of inane vidoes about how 'breast is best' because it's 'natural' and so easy. So far the classes are just useful for specific detail on our area plus meeting people and you can get the detail form your midwife and meet people at postnatal groups. Am about to go to the next one so I will tell you if there is anything earthshattering!

weddingcake · 06/06/2007 19:08

Thank you!

MelissaM · 06/06/2007 19:52

Pookey glad appointment went ok. Sorry to hear about your dad. Hope everything goes well.

weepiglet2, I'm with you on the hormones. I couldn't reach my glass of water which was on the floor next to the sofa last night and burst into tears!

Jamantha, hope all is goes ok with the swelling and bp. My ankles were like balloons when I got home tonight, but seem to have gone down a bit now. Sorry to hear of probs with ordering your Tens. Good luck for tomorrow.

Kyte sorry I can't really help on this either. Do try not to worry though. The only thing I seem to remember is either sitting on a birthing/exercise ball or on all fours for a bit each day helps lo move into the right position. It's worked for a couple of my friends.

Weddingcake sorry your mw wasn't very nice today. Don't worry about not going to antenatal classes. From what I've heard from other people, many of the classes aren't that useful. Ours was only one afternoon but was quite good (I think we were lucky with the mw we had). We did get some useful info so I will have a look through the notes they gave us and let you know. I am sure there was something about how your partner can help and play a v important role.

keiralou · 06/06/2007 20:45

Hi All, Wow there have been so mant posts, that I just can't keep up with all of you!! Glad to hear most of you are doing well, adn to those of you with worries, try not to... you need to stay calm adn relaxed to have chilled out babies!!!

Can't remember who was saying about ROA, but my dd was facing the wrong way and it wasn't made clear to me at all. As you say, it may make it a harder labour etc, but have read that you need to sit in upright chairs, keep knees below hips and various other things - see babycentre website and others I'm sure. I was put on a drip during my last labour to speed up the contractions and ended up having forceps. The process was quite drawn out, but at least you have an idea about this and may want to take action now and in your birth plan...

On other matters, finally saw a midwife on Monday (hadn't seen one since my booking in visit at 15 or 16 weeks) Asked if I could have an induction date as am worried about the baby being late and being another big one. She said they don't organise induction dates anymore, but that I could book in for a sweep (eek) at 41 weeks and they would then take it from there, so that's what I did.

Am definitely feeling v pregnant this time round - bigger, more uncomfortable, more tired and, well, unattractive . Still, I finish work next week, so that should relieve some of the tiredness and means I'll get to spend some quality time with dd. We've just moved her in to her new bedroom - a pink palace which she adores. Alot of hard work constructing ikea flatpacks... Really need to listen to mil's advice and start taking it easy!!!

Good luck to you all!

JennsterSlugSlayer · 06/06/2007 21:27

Hello hope everybody is looking after themselves and not worrying too much.

Kyte, don't twins arrive early because they run out of room?

JennsterSlugSlayer · 06/06/2007 21:31

And sorry not sure who was talking about hiring a Tens machine. Is it expensive? I bought one for about £35 last time.

Beyonceen · 07/06/2007 11:02

hi all. Millions of posts to read!! Hope everyone's feeling ok. I think we worry all the way through , then so much more as the birth gets closer.
I hired a tens machine from boots (can i say that ?) last time. It was about £25.
Weather is hotting up up north here. lovely.

Jamantha, Im glad that your appointment was okay but at the stupid woman in the chemist! I always liken them to doctors receptionists (sorry if anyone is a doctors receptionist!) but the ones in my local chemist are always too busy talking about last nights dinner or b*tching about someone, anything but helping anyone in the store!

Weddingcake - Dont feel bad for not going to antenatal classes. If they are anything like mine was last Saturday then dont worry about it. I have decided I'm not going back. A complete and utter waste of time and I found the books and internet reading I have been doing has much more useful!
As for DH, don't worry about him. It will be a shock to mine too but I am sure he will cope okay. Well, lets face it, they have to right?!!? Im actually more concerned about how my dog is going to cope!!!!

Hope everyone else is okay....we had a firealarm test this morning which completely threw me off my routine! lol..I was halfway through my fruit...now I'm all behing!

Anyone else finding they cant eat a big meal but feel hungry for lots of little things?

Big hugs to all.

justbeme · 07/06/2007 12:43

Hi All!
Havent posted for ages - but have been lurking and reading. My due date is 29/6 - and as my DD was 10 days late I originally posted on here.

Glad youre all OK and pregnancys progressing - so no early July babies yet then?? We've had 5 ( I think) June babies so far - its very exciting!!

Ive hires a TENS machine from www.naturesgate-uk.com - it came next day delivery for £26 and I get it for 6 weeks. Its got reusable pads as well - havent tried it yet though!! So cant comment on that side.

I'll keep popping in and out if you dont mind!! Take Care!!
