Wow you guys have been chatty over the past couple of days. Sorry but I'm not going to even try to catch up tonight, though I may tomorrow when I'm a bit more awake.

But... Huskygirl - I just wanted to mention about hayfever though, I suffer with it really badly every year. I realised early on that I wouldn't be able to take my normal tablets this year so spoke to my doctor in early April as soon as the symptoms started. She's prescribed me Nasofan Aqueous which is a nasal spray, the active ingredient in it is Fluticasone. It takes about a week to get into your system, but so far, (touch wood) I haven't had any problems at all which is amazing for me. Piriton is also okay, but it can make you sleepy, and it doesn't work for me, there are a few other options too so speak to your doctor.
Today has been really hot and sunny but with a strong breeze. I normally sneeze my way through days like today, miserable, snappy and cursing the weather. Instead I've been outside pottering in the garden with no symptoms at all.
Get to the doctors, and get some medication, I've been quibbling over taking paracetamols but decided if I didn't take something for my hayfever I'd be a wreck before the baby arrived, and if my DP hadn't left me I'd have probably killed him.

weepiglet2 · 05/06/2007 22:29

God hormones!
Just watched springwatch on telly with lots of little baby birds and animals (some of them dying/being eaten). Ended up snivelling - DH looking at me as if Im some strange alien who has taken his wife away!

lynnec · 05/06/2007 22:38

DivaSkyChick, I see my gp every 4 weeks for bloods, urine and bp so im not totally left on my own, though gp has been lovely still would preder to visit a mw, however who am i to say.I also got a 12 week scan but that was it, gp does the rest (must be a money saving thing)

Thanks for the support on waxing, i'll let you all know how it goes LOL

Jamantha · 06/06/2007 07:14

Am worried this morning. At ante-natal last night MW saw my ankles and advised I get an emergency GP appointment to check BP. Didn't seem like a big deal at the time, but now worried Sorry - I know it's not a big deal compared to a lot of stuff folks have been through, but sitting here alone (DH soundly asleep) I suddenly feel really concerned.

DivaSkyChick · 06/06/2007 10:02

What are you sorry for? Your midwife advised an emergency meeting, I'd be scared too! Have you called yet? Let us know right away what you hear!

(crossing fingers and toes for Jamantha)

Groveregg · 06/06/2007 10:09

Hope things are fine Jamantha. In my last pg I got puffy ankles with the heat (so far not happened again) but it did not mean anything at all...

Catz · 06/06/2007 10:11

Best of luck Jamantha. Have you had this for long? My ankles were horribly swollen on Sat evening and I was a little worried but have gone back to normal now - think it was spending too much time kneeling down gardening in really hot weather at the weekend. The weather has been hot so it might just be something temporary as a response to that (that's what my book suggests anyway). Always best to get these things checked out though as virtually everything seems to be capable of being either nothing important or a potential sign of something worse!

Hope that all goes well with the GP.

Stigaloid · 06/06/2007 10:25

(((((hugs))))) and good luck Jamantha - hope all is okay.

Thanks for your good wishes ladies! Went to surgery at 8.30 and couldn't get any appointment, even though I said I'd been told to as an emergency, until this afternoon. So came into work - did think about takign time off sick, but we've got painting going on and it stinks, so thought I might feel better in the office. Seeing nurse at 4.10 this afternoon. Part of me is glad it's the nurse, as I'm getting less trustful of the GPs (other than mine, who is great, but impossible to see at short notice).

In answer to queries - my hands have been swollen for weeks and have been giving me carpal tunnel syndrome. Finger tips constantly numb/pins & needles. Can't remember last time I could feel fine details. Ankles started swelling this weekend - got really bad yesterday, shoes agony by end of working day. Fluid is draining away overnight (sleeping with feet on pillows) but builds up quickly again during day. Hoping it is just fluid retention and nothing more serious.

Hi All,

Huskygirl: I have rhinitis and from the beginning of pg I was told I can continue to take my Flixonase nasal spray (steroids). My symptoms are like bad hayfever, so should hope the doc can sort you out.

Pookey: Sorry to hear your dad, but glad it sounds like that have it early. My uncle in law also going through the same thing so ((hugs)) to you and your family.

Lady Gardens: PMSL at all these comments! I swear by my remington strimmer, though nicked myself last time. Ouch . Am only managing to wax the stragglers at the mo. Can't bear anything else.

Jamantha: Hope you get on well with the nurse. While I'm glad the m/w was on the ball and your symptoms could point to a more diagnosis, the reality is that odoema (sp?) is really very common in late pg. My m/w asked about it yesterday and I said it was very sporadic and only a) at the end of the day or b) if I hadn't been drinking loads of water. So the m/w last night will have seen you at the end of the day when the symptoms are likely to be worse. Agree it's MUCH better to get checked out.

I am loving the weather, but have another 3 weeks til mat leave (working to the wire 38.5 weeks). Thank goodness I still am feeling really well, though I do have a tiredness dip at about 6pm now.

I am really quite proud of myself for responding to at least a few posts Post-it note helped!

Have a good day everyone.

Thinking about it a little, while I feel like I need the loo almost constantly during the day little comes out (Was at diagrams last night showing how little room is left for bladder by end of pg, explained a lot!). But during the night and first thing I could almost wee for England. I guess this is the fulid that's built up in feet draining back into circulation and getting pumped out? Not sure if that makes it better or worse though?

Jamantha, I have heard that drinking lots of water helps - bizarrely! Good look with appt this afternoon

Caroline1852 · 06/06/2007 13:22

I meant good luck not good look with the appt!

Chooster · 06/06/2007 13:23

Hi all,

Good to hear from you again Pookey - sorry about your dad, but fingers crossed he's on the mend soon.

Jamantha - sorry to hear about another worry for you. I was called in urgently to GP yesterday as there was protein in my pee sample but no sign of a urine infection. The GP looked at me again (BP, swelling and some re-tests), and he explained that the key to swelling is if it doesn't go down after resting your feet. He said if its a sign of pre-eclampsia then it would not go down. I know very little about this but thought I'd pass on what I'd been told as it may help. Hope your appointment goes well for you! Fingers crossed.

I love all this talk of people being on mat leave or about to start. I've got another 2 weeks after this one and am really just counting the days

I was just looking at the amount of messages on this thread - we'll need to start another soon and the new one will probably be when we are telling each other about labour experiences! .

Cyee · 06/06/2007 13:43

Jamantha - I am EXACTLY the same! I almost woke myself up last night thinking 'where the hell did that come from?!' Good luck this afternoon. Then today I am dying to go, and only trickle when I'm in the loo

Afternoon all,
Wow what a chatty lot we are!
I have read all the posts but for the life of me can't remember who said what.

Well here's my news...went for a private scan yesterday (got myself into such a worried state that it was all I could do to calm myself down)...and all is well!

Seems the baby is in a very weird position and the sonographer put himself into that position to show me! Bless!

Baby has its head down by my left groin (facing outwards) with its hands over its face, spine curling across to my right hip, butt behind my tummy button and then both legs straight down into my 'you know what'! So it explains why I'm getting punched in the left groin and kicked underneath!!!

He tested everything and all looks well so for me it was worth the money to put my mind at rest.

Have been very emotional (And cried the other day because I spilt dinner over my bump!) Hoping to calm down a bit now.

11 days till my maternity leave starts.

Big hugs to all and their bumps.

Myfairone · 06/06/2007 14:04

Pookey - Sorry to hear about your Dad, I wish him all the luck for his op.

Firststar - I am so excited about my maternity leave, starts on the 22nd (but I have a few appointments I can go to inbetween). When are you starting yours?

Kyte - Thats why I went for a scan. They all kept feeling my tummy and telling me the position they 'thought' it was in. Seems they were all wrong and its a yoga expert after all!

I have no advice other than to say that baby will make its mind up when it wants to come and how it wants to be 'on the day'! Try not to worry.
