Can't believe we need more space... again...

Wow - lots happening! Good luck to all those with scans and appointments and I hope those with any discomforts/worries are reassured & feeling okay. I've just started my maternity leave after a manic couple of weeks at work trying to get everything sorted. I strangely found it quite hard to hand over some of my work - I never know I cared so much! It feels really strange being at home and pottering, but I know I should make the most of it .... .

Huskygirl and Melissa - I've also been getting some eye-watering movements. TBH I find it a bit freaky at times . I was told on my last appointment that LO is in an "oblique" position - my bump is completely lopsided. Quite flat on the left side and bulging on the right. I may have to have a scan next week to determine exact position then think about trying to turn her, or an eventual C-section. Trying not to slouch back on sofa, but this is difficult when faced with the novelty of not going to work.

Take care everyone!

JAM - so pleased to hear everything has calmed down for you and can't believe that in the middle of everything you've had happening you've also got essay deadlines to meet!

I had a fairly dramatic day yesterday - got rushed off to hospital from my routine blood pressure check because it had suddenly soared and the baby's movements had really slowed down and no amount of cold drinks or poking and prodding by the doctor was moving him.

Luckily it all calmed down within a few hours at the hospital (I'm blaming the jump in blood pressure on having to see my nightmare mil on the sunday and the baby's lack of movement on him being a lazy yet stubborn little soul not unlike both his parents!) and they let me home again last night but it was very scary wondering if this could be 'it'!

I also can't decide if my maternal instinct has yet to kick in or if it was just my way of dealing with the panic but on the way to the hospital all I could think of was the state my bikini line was in...or at least the state I guess it's in having not been able to see past the bump for a while!

Hope everyone else's appointments etc. are going ok!

madmumNika · 05/06/2007 12:16

Weddingcake- glad you are ok ((((( )))))
What a scare! It is hard to get reliable BP measurements, I have found a correlation between lower BP readings when my nice midwife comes and takes them at home with me sitting on the sofa and high BP readings when the consultant does it at the hospital! But I am glad they checked everything out properly... Have to admit I do agree on the bikini line comment- before each hospital appointment I do my best to 'tidy' it up a little after a few weeks ago when they threatened to keep me in!! With DS I had no such opportunity !!

Jamantha · 05/06/2007 12:25

Regarding BP measurements, I've been told about the importance of using "old fashioned" (ie with stethascope) rather than modern electronic meters, and of using the same sized cuff for each reading. May explain some variations?

Miaou · 05/06/2007 12:32

Hello everyone, just dipping in to say we are all moved and settling in nicely in our new (lovely) house (bungalow - yippeee!! No more traipsing up and down the stairs to the loo!!). Haven't caught up yet with everyone's posts so I hope you are ok. Internet connection a bit dodgy and we have no tv (which I am quite pleased about!) but I'll try to read/post as much as possible. I have my first appointment with my (new) midwife on Wednesday - got to be an improvement on the last one

Wow so much to read through! Is it due to lots of people now being on maternity leave or just that suddenly everything seems a bit more pressing (both figuratively and literally in my case!)?!

Yes me too having problems with stains on all my tops where food is dropping on top of my bump! I am having to squirt all my tops with Oxyclean before I do every wash... And yes me too with the washing-up, I am getting so annoyed with whoever designs kitchens, what exactly was the idea behind having the sink a good 3 inches back from the edge of the work surface?!

Starting to get my head around things now; I have at least made a list of things to do before the Big Event, from birth plan to getting things out of the attic, even to making a Christmas stocking for LO to match its brother's one (don't want to suddenly find on Christmas Eve that I forgot that job because I was too busy!). The only problem is that I've done the list but can't quite bring myself to start doing any of the things on it...

OMG Wedding Cake! What a scare. Cracks me up what you think about on the way to the hospital. I was knocked out once in school and came to on the guerney being rolled to the ambulance. All I could think about were my unmatched socks that everyone MUST be looking at ? :O

Welcome Mum2boys3! Were you a long time lurker like me? How are you feeling?

Yay Miaou! Congrats on the new place.

Firststar, even better idea to do this on word. Thanks!

typhoonsmum · 05/06/2007 16:55

Had a midwife appointment today. First she told me she didn't need to take any blood today. Had to tell her I knew my HB result was 11. Then she pondered for a bit and decided yes maybe I should have taken iron so advised me to do that. Didn#'t want to recheck the level even tho it was taken 4 weeks ago and I have a headache when I get up in the morning or sit still for too long then move.
Urine dip shows glucose and leukocytes so I have to go back next week to recheck that. She says sometimes if a patient is anaemicc they check a UTI and vice versa but still didn't want to recheck blood. (I pigged out on Chocolate eclairs yesterday - well two. So I presume that is the cause of the glucose) I can't have Gestational Diabetes. I'M A CHOCOHOLIC!

Im so of all who are seeing their mw, i only see mine once during my pg and thats my edd. So god knows what lo is up to in there. Is there any ladies out there that has tips on waxing....im going for the the bikin line, under arms and eye brows on thursday (just incase this lo decides to come out early) I know it hurts but not as much as having lo so im prepared for the pain LOL im taking 3 paracetomol before i go, see if that helps.

Hope everyones having a nice week so far.

Jamantha · 05/06/2007 17:34

I feel like SUCH a slattern as I have no plans on waxing, trimming or otherwise "tidying up down there". (And now I'm to be admitting that, and worried that I've just condemned myself as being "that" sort of woman, whatever "that" might be?)

Came home early today as was just too hot to be at work and wanted a chance to chill out before first ante-natal tonight. Can't wait til end of next week when I finish work and hopefully all the decorating will be done at home so I can relax a bit.

DivaSkyChick · 05/06/2007 17:39

HAH good luck with the bikini wax - it doesn't just hurt, it HURTS. I've been getting nearly everything taken off for years and years but the last time I thought I would die. do come back and tell us about it tho! lol

Do you seriously only see a midwife once during your entire pg? no scans or tests? I mean, yay no internals but not even a urine test or a bp test? Or did I miss something.

JennsterSlugSlayer · 05/06/2007 17:50

Lynne - Don't take more than 1g (2 x 500g) Paracetamol!

MelissaM · 05/06/2007 18:16

Hi All. You have been busy this afternoon!

Good news - the consultant said I can have a homebirth! Woohoo!

Off to order my birthing pool and tens.

Jamantha · 05/06/2007 18:33

Yay! Well done on getting HB MelissaM.

Damn! Forgot to hand in my order for Tens at the pharmacy on way home. Thanks for reminding me, I can do it tomorrow.

Huskygirl; I had a chat with my obstetrician about hayfever as I had a very severe bout last year that ended up in nasty sinusitus that took ages (and three courses of antibiotics) to clear. She told me I could take piriton, said that it was what they used for some of the itchy complications of pregnancy but to watch in case it made me drowsy. She also said that a nasal steroid was unlikely to cause any harm if things became unbearable. I know nobody wants to take drugs in pregnancy but if its setting off your asthma may be worth a chat with your doc. Hope you are feeling better!

pookey · 05/06/2007 21:45

Been off this thread so long i think it would be impossible to catch up so gonna start afresh if thats ok - I havent read down .

Had a 34 week scan which showed my placenta is not low lying so thanks to those of you who reassured me on this. Baby's weight was already just off 6lb and my GTT tests were normal. I had another consultant rush off to the main guy concerned about me having a home birth because ds was 9lb 4 and forceps. I could hear the head honcho down the corridor shouting there is 'nothing we can do she knows the risks' - very guilt inducing, but at the moment everything is normal and even the baby's size is within a normal range.

My father has been diagnosed with prostrate cancer and his op is 4 days before my due date but it looks like it has been caught in time.

I am on maternity leave yay!

huskygirl · 05/06/2007 21:48

thanks for that weepiglet2, i didnt realise! i've got a midwife appointment on thurs so ill mention it then. its a lot worse this year for some reason

huskygirl · 05/06/2007 21:53

hi pookey. looks like baba's going to be another good sizer then How unprofessional of the hospital staff discussing your wishes by shouting down the corridor, thats awful. Glad that your gtt was ok and that the placenta is behaving.

Sorry to hear about your father, lets all hope that its been caught in time. It must be very hard for you and your family, sending some positive thoughts your way((((((()))))))

JennsterSlugSlayer · 05/06/2007 22:06

Huskygirl don't let them fob you off by sending you to buy the stuff over the counter in the pharmacy. You will need a prescription coz they aren't licensed drugs to be SOLD in a pharmacy.

DivaSkyChick · 05/06/2007 22:14

Husky, I've posted this elsewhere but for what it's worth I'll post again. In the USA, you are allowed to take pseudofed after the first trimester. I'm pretty sure that in a litigious country such as mine, this would not be done lightly.

Just a thought.
