Are your children’s vaccines up to date?

Hi all.

Just got back from the hospital and they have confirmed by c-section date as 26/6, so 3 weeks tomorrow. Can't wait!

Still feeling really positive about it, but I am a bit squeamish so will have to see how I cope when the time comes.

One of my worries is getting MRSA but the hospital do a routine swab test for all elective sections (I had to give swabs from my nose and groin to see if I was a carrier), so hopefully along with good hospital hygiene and the anti-biotics they give out I should be at low risk of infection. The incision isn't as long as I thought either (6 inches), and the rest of the risks (DVT, blood loss, not driving etc) I already knew about. I go back on 25/6 for a pre-op visit. Not long to go now...

My BP was slightly raised, and there was a trace of protein in my urine, but I go back to the midwife next Monday and I'm aware of the signs of PE so should be OK. I had raised BP at the end of my last pregnancy (and had to stay in afterwards because of it) so not really unexpected.

I'm now officially on maternity leave and finding it a bit strange being at home- I should make the most of it though before baby comes!

Bye for now. Pulapula

Kyte - I meant to say thanks for all the info on wraps and slings. I've been wondering what to get, so will look into some of those.

Just back from doc's surgery. I saw a nurse about earache - got drops for infection, so hopefully will work quickly and let me sleep again (another bad night last night). She's an ex-midwife so we also had a chat about birth etc. She was strongly recommending the MW led unit (which is what I've been fancying) rather than the "proper" hospital, and I now feel rather more positive about these last few weeks and the birth itself. Hoorah

Hope things are also looking up/continuing to go OK for everyone else. Not long to go now in the grand scheme of things...

Good luck for the 26th pulapula - and am that yo're on leave. Try to get some rest now (I know, it's easier said than done) and keep the BP down, or at least from going any higher.

Cyee · 04/06/2007 13:15

Good luck Pulapula - 3 weeks - how exciting!

Thanks for the clothing info Abgirl

Agnes - I had similar low pains, defo indigestion for me .

Take care everyone.

pulapula - not long for you now! I had an elective section last time round and it was really a very nice experience. I was advised by brother in law who is a doc to make sure I was as well rested as I possibly could be and well fed (nutritious foods not chocs) in the run up to the section. I took his advice (lots of afternoon sleeps, early nights, really nutritious salads, fruit, lean meat, fish etc) and I think it really aided a speedy recovery. Just thought I'd share that.
I have just come back from a mw appt (my mw is sooo nice). Everything completely fine but she did ask me if I had arranged to have any extra help for when baby arrives..... sort of "how on earth are you going to manage with a new baby, 18 mo, 11 year old and 15 year old)"......... I haven't really thought about it. Total optimistic denial.

Chooster · 04/06/2007 13:36

Thanks for the sling info Kyte and others - I think I may need to get another type then if I'm going to manage bf on the move.

Wow, pulapula - not long now!! There's quite a few at the end of June who are getting really close.

I was wondering about coming home clothes, too! MN rocks!

So anyone here as hormonal as I am? Saw 28 Weeks Later last night. A frigging Zombie movie. In one scene a husband abandons his wife when the going gets tough. On the way home my husband made a joke about how he'd do the same and suddenly I was practically in hysterics. Tears, hyperventalating, SO devastated! LOL Have I lost my mind?

Divaskychick - I seem to have got over my emotional meltdown.... a few weeks ago I cried at everything on the TV - even blubbed at Newsnight (watching the two Northern Ireland adversaries power sharing and sharing a joke!). The crunch came when I watched Mike Leigh's Secrets and Lies in bed on TV one night a couple of weeks ago, DP came home from an evening tennis match to find me virtually drowning in snot and tears.....now I just stick to the Apprentice and The Backyardigans though I'm probably sufficiently recovered to give Newsnight another whirl. Hormones, they are horrible.
For anyone having their first baby. Do not take any pre-pregnancy clothes to come home in as they probably won't fit (unless you are having a mummy tuck and suck at the same time you give birth). After my first baby, I was shocked that a week later I still looked five months pregnant.... (even more shocked two years later when I still looked five months pregnant but that is a separate thread !)

weddingcake · 04/06/2007 15:06

I'm glad (if that doesn't sound too mean!)that someone else's husband hasn't yet grasped the concept that joking about leaving a pregnant woman isn't in the slightest bit amusing.

I've always been a bit of an emotional wreck - I cry at Neighbours ffs but pregnancy has taken it to a whole new level and a serious sense of humour failure - just hope that also returns once the baby is born. Probably more likely than the return of my figure if I don't stop eating the kitkats...

Catz · 04/06/2007 15:19

Is anyone else getting really tired again? I've hardly got the energy to do anything. Every time I do something remotely active e.g. washing up, I have to sit down for 20 mins! Had my first blood test since Dec on Friday so wondering if I'm anaemic. If not I don't know how people with toddlers cope.

Catz - do you teach/lecture in law?

Chooster · 04/06/2007 15:50

Hi catz - yes I'm really knackered again. I'm falling asleep every night putting DS to bed. I'm sure I've nodded off before him quite a few times this week. Its lovely though cos he really snuggles in with me

I'm also emotional Diva - Eastenders was my latest teary moment, oh and the 3rd birthday party I went to on Sunday with DS and hardly anyone turned up. I really had to concentrate not to cry for him and it wasn't even my child.

Totally agree with Caroline - When I had DS I was so excited at the thought of being able to put my maternity clothes away but didn't realise I'd still be wearing them weeks later .

Chooster · 04/06/2007 15:54

And, speaking of washing up, is anyone else genuinely finding it hard to do? My bump is just so much in the way that I have to stand back from the sink and lean over it so my lower back starts aching after a couple of plates. I told DH this and he just looked at me like I was totally making it up

Catz · 04/06/2007 15:58

Thanks - glad it's not just me (though sorry you're all feeling like this too).

Chooster - yes, I get exactly the same thing - and I can only cook on the hob rings closest to me 'cos I can't reach the back ones!

Caroline - at risk of giving my RL identity away - yes I do. Are you a lawyer?

Stigaloid · 04/06/2007 16:01

Catz - I'm exhausted all the time now! I can't even walk to the end of the road without having to come back and snooze for an hour!!

Had bit of a scare on Sunday as had some bleeding. Had to go to hopsital and the mid-wife took 5 minutes before she could find the heart beat! V scary. All seems okay though but not a pleasant way to spend the weekend.

Hope everyone else is doing okay. I should check in more but even an hour at the PC has me wanting to run off to bed again to sleep!

aww thanks firstar - am resting as much as possible and spoke to boss today and said will have to start maternity leave a week early at end of this week as think all the travelling and work is taking a toll.

Was v scared that i would end up in early labour when we first went in and all i could think was how unorganised i was and had so much to do at home and office! Cot is going to go up tomorrow and hopefully borrowing moses basket this week too (have new mattress) so if anything does happen, at least the baby will have somewhere to sleep!

Shall try your advice on the washing up front with DH - although think the scare was enough for him to start realising that can't do everything these days and he has started being really sweet and overly attentive. Bless!

Caroline1852 · 04/06/2007 16:44

Catz - Yes, but (whispers in case that Xenia woman hears) I choose to be a SAHM.

Catz · 04/06/2007 16:52

Stigaloid - really sorry to hear about the bleeding but glad things are looking OK now. Take things easy and best wishes for the next few weeks.

Caroline - I don't blame you! I used to practice but the hours where I was were insane so I moved to teaching because it is much more rewaring and works much better for home life (and life in general actually!). Slightly annoying that my students tend to be on more than me within a couple of years of graduating but wouldn't really go back!
