oh ROFL weddingcake - hilarious! Sorry for laughing at your expense though! Sounds like you are doing really well, not surprised you are bored though.

Caroline, I think Otto is a lovely name . Not sure what we are having. If it is a boy it will probably be Euan, which pleases dd1's tidy mind very much, because then it will be two girls followed by two boys, initials C,E,C,E, and the number of letters in each name will be 7,6,5 and 4!! Lol. I suspect it is a girl though (mind you I have been wrong every other time ) in which case it will be Ishbel. Still got to decide on middle names though! We shall balance them with English middle names. That's another job on my list of "things to do once we have moved"

Cakehead · 30/05/2007 12:57

Oh weddingcake, that is funny. My feet and toes have been off-limits for weeks. A real struggle to get socks on. But still, have had some lovely pedicures to make up for it!

Weddingcake I am in full agreement with the 'having trouble getting in and out of clothes routine'! I stand for ages trying desperately to wiggle my tootsies into my shoes only to find that I can't bend for very long to do them up!
Hilarious story re your knicks!

I had more blood taken at my 30 week appointment but no chance of another scan until at least 36 weeks (baby is breech). I have decided that I want another scan so have booked a private one for next week. Just feel like I want to check in and see that all is well.

Not sure who mentioned names but it has become my mission to find a name for my LO. If only DH felt the same way! Its not like I want us to make a decision but a shortlist would be good! We both have such different ideas on names...My DH seems to think it would be cool to name it after lead singers of heavy metal bands! NO way jose!

Is anyone else totally fed up with the weather? Its really bringing me down...

Big hugs to all and their bumps (3 weeks left at work for me!!! woooohoooo!)

JennsterSlugSlayer · 30/05/2007 13:32

Hello Icklegem and beyonceen. Race you beyonceen we are due the same day.

Don't think even scans are that accurate either. Was told at antenatal classes last time, one woman based her whole caesarean decision on the fact she was told she was going to have an 11 pound whopper, when she really wanted a natural birth. Turned out to be a perfectly normal 6lb something baby, and that was WITH scans as well as fundal height.

Depends on your height too I think.

Caroline1852 · 30/05/2007 13:49

Me being allowed a VBAC for DS2 was based on the scan which said I was having a 7lber. I was allowed but should not have been he was 9lb 9ox with a big head circumference to boot! My fundal height was measuring 2cms behind what it should be.

saf1 · 30/05/2007 14:55

Hooray some good news

My other s.i.l has just given birth to #3 little girl. She'd planned on having an induction on Friday with all the emotional turmoil thats been going on but lo wasn't having any of it and after a sweep yesterday Ebonyrai was born at 12.30pm today.Labour started at 6am, s.i.l stayed home till 10am and the lo arrived at 12.30 pm 7lbs 1oz. I can't wait to see her
Lots of love to you all and thanks for all your kind words of support.
I want my lo now too

mousemole · 30/05/2007 15:37

Hi everyone,
New to this discussion so hello ! Due 30th June or 7th July depending on whose dates you believe. This is baby number 2, already have a DS aged 2.
Does anyone know how accurate the measurements are when you have your checks ? Mine is measuring 2 weeks ahead ( currently 35 weeks but measure 37+) Is this of any significance ? Have had period pains and low back pain since last night, not sure whether to go to Docs. With DS I had a c section so not sure what real labour feels like ! Am a bit worried it could all be starting or is this normal ?

Myfairone · 30/05/2007 15:43

Saf - So glad to hear of the safe arrival of your SIL's LO. That sounded like a nice labour too! Allow yourself to feel the joy of the good news and just think that in a few weeks it will be you holding your LO!

Its quite amazing really isnt it to think that we will all have LO of our own very soon!

Myfairone · 30/05/2007 15:46

Mousemole - Sorry I seem to have posted at the same time as you...wasn't ignoring your question.

I have no idea what labour feels like (my first) but if you don't feel right it may be worth going to the doctors/midwife to get checked out. Probably best to put your mind at rest.

Good luck and let us know how you are

mousemole · 30/05/2007 15:59

myfairone, yes think we pressed send at the same time ! Its amazing second time round how much you forget from the first time. I will see what tonight brings and if no better in the morning will see the doc. I get a bir stressed as DH works away in the week and dont want to go into labour on my own ! Also very nervous about VBAC ! What is your due date ?

Beyonceen · 30/05/2007 16:01

Thanks for all the hellos. Can't believe there's so many of us due around the same time!! MN must be huge!! (I'm 33+3).
I'm totally ignoring fundal height thingumy as i had completely random readings and predictions in both my previous pregs.
Feeling ENORMOUS and don't know where else this baby can grow to. Apparently they do loads of growing in the last 2 months but i'm so sure I can't stretch any more!!
Haven't seen my feet/legs/middle bits for eons. I'm sure my toenails need cutting though as my shoes seem too small!
Someone recommended Cocoa butter for stretch marks. It absolutely stinks!! Anyone found this works or should I give up smelling like a cesspit?
Oh and has anyone else got spd? Am now hobbling on crutches.
I see I have painted a very attractive picture of myself.
I'm so drop dead gorge usually, honest.

Myfairone · 30/05/2007 16:11

Beyonceen - You sound as attractive as I feel! pregnancy is not the best for making you feel attractive is it?

My toe nails are so in need of attention (as are my bits) but I've seen the way my DH cuts his face so theres no way he's coming anywhere near me with a razor! And he's useless at DIY so will have to get my Mum to do the nails!

Cocoa butter does stink and seems to linger all day. Have you tried BioOil? Its not cheap but it goes a long way and the fragrance is light (you can buy it in Boots).

Mousemole - If you are worried then get yourself off to the doc, especially if you are concerned about your DH being away. We are always here if you fancy a chat!

Beyonceen · 30/05/2007 16:32

mousemole, the whole back-ache and period pains sounds promising. I would check it out and text DH to tell him what you're doing. What joy if you found out you'd cheated the system by two weeks!!(or even more).

mousemole · 30/05/2007 16:48

Hi Beyonceen
Funnily enough it is my last day at work today so wouldnt that be ironic if it was all starting early !
Loving your descriptions of late pregnancy. I tried to shave my legs yesterday and gave up when I almost got stuck in the shower cubicle bending down ! I have been using Body Shop Body butter which I used last time and have NO stretch marks again ( last time had a 9lb er so it must work). It also smells very nice. I am quite glad the heat has subsided as it was making me very grumpy !

weddingcake, lol at your balancing act. Glad you bp is under control. I too am having trouble with shoes, socks, knickers, etc. DH made some comment about my knickers the other day and I had to look in the mirror to figure out which ones I had put on!

On a similar note, I drop some papers from a file today and managed to crouch down, but still couldn't reach them. Had to get a colleague to pick them up for me and then he nearly had to help me up too. Managed to drop the same papers 10 seconds later too!

Really struggling with boys names. Don't know if lo is boy or girl, so having to come up with both. Looking at another thread about names, our fav girls name is really popular, and friends have just used the only boys name we both liked.
I like Otto, but it reminds me of The Simpsons. I like Ishbel and Euan too.

saf1, congrats on your niece. what a beautiful name.

Welcome mousemole. Sorry can't help on pains as this is my first. If not sure I would speak to mw/doc. I agree with whoever suggested keeping dh informed. Mine gets really tetchy (sp?) if I don't tell him whats going on.

Beyonceen - sorry to hear about spd. Hope not too uncomfortable (sounds v painful). Not too much longer to put up with it though. I've used baby oil, cocoa butter and clarins body tonic oil (or whatever its called) and (touchwood) have no stretch marks on my belly at the mo. Am 34+2, so am hoping I will get away without. Have just bought BioOil as it's been recommended and is much cheaper than the clarins stuff. Superdrug has money off at the mo.

Jamantha · 30/05/2007 18:34

Weddingcake - thansk for making me smile. And brought back memories of when I used to work in a hospital. Had to ask men to just unzip their trousers to do an xray scan of lumbar spine and the number of them that were obviously prepared NOT to be embaressed if a young lady should ask them to undress. Often got as far as "could I just ask you to.." and the trousers AND underpants would be on the floor before I could go any further.

Congrats to your sil saf1, and good luck mousemole if it is what you think it might be.

DH is obviously smitten and soppy at the moment, he just ordered a "onesie" (legless stretchsuit/all in one thing) today with this design on it www.threadless.com/product/853/The_Day_The_Fire_Brigade_Went_On_Strike I got him to get the 6-12 month size, so hopefully it'll fit for a longer time span than the 3-6 month one. Just a shame we'll have to wait that bit longer to see LO in it.

pulapula · 30/05/2007 18:57

Hello all,

I am also struggling with the socks/shoe thing, but have not yet got to the stage last time round where I had to "wave" my pants down near my feet and try and poke my toes in. I remember ballooning in the last month, so although I'm not too big yet, I'm sure it will happen soon.

I finish work tomorrow, which is not a day too soon, as I am starting to feel very tired (35+2 weeks today), and am having difficulty sleeping with all the excitement of baby being here in less than 4 weeks (C-section planned for 26/6).

I have also been having loads of BH contractions, and have had to "breath" through some as they are getting painful. They can come every 5 minutes for an hour or so, a few times a day, which is getting a bit much really!. I didn't really get any with my first pregnancy, but have read that they are more common in subsequent pregnancies. I even thought labour was starting the other evening as they were coming every few minutes, getting more painful, and I was also feeling generally unwell. But went to bed and woke up same as usual!

We decided on names ages ago, as there was only one boys name we both agreed on (both this pregnancy and last time round) so once we found out we were having a boy, that was it. He will be Benjamin (Ben). We have been calling him Ben since the 20 week scan, and our 2.5 year old DD also calls him baby Ben -somehow we have managed to get away with it each time she says it in company, as we have told friends and family we don't know what we're having!.

Sorry to hear some of you are going through ill health and personal difficulties. Stay positive and keep as healthy as poss for you and LOs. Not long now...

weepiglet2 · 30/05/2007 19:16

Interesting to hear peoples experiences of sizing the baby - I was a bit freaked yesterday at my antenatal clinic as they felt that the baby was small (though I have been ill so its possible) - have been plugged into the growth scan fortnightly review cycle - lo is very active so trying not to worry too much.

JAM and saf - sorry to hear about your relatives difficlut enough to deal with at the best of times let alone when heavily pregnant

starting to put things together for a hospital bag - a bit freaky!

twoplusone · 30/05/2007 20:14

you have all been busy chatting havent you.

Justaboutmanaging and saf- still thinking of you. Saf congratulations on the birth of your niece.

Just waiting for my inlaws to turn up (any minute now!!)

Mousemole- best to get things checked out if you are worried.

I have nooticed littleone isnt moving around quite as much now.. but when he does I know about it. It freaks my DD out, which makes me laugh..

DivaSkyChick · 30/05/2007 20:34

Hi Ladies,

I haven't posted here bc by the time I found the thread (the third one!) you were all pretty well established and I was a bit intimidated. But now I need some advice and I thought I might take a chance - got room for one more due in July chick?

I'm wondering about my antenatal care. I've had two scans and three visits to with a midwife, total. I'm 31 +5. My next appt isnt' until middle of June, when I'll be about 34 weeks. I've never seen a consultant, never had an internal (yay!), never been told the results of blood tests and was never contacted by a midwife regarding my requested homebirth. I was told someone would come to my house for a chat about it.

I'm 41 and this is my first. Should I just figure it's all fine they would contact me? Am I supposed to know anything about the possible size or position of the baby?

Thanks for your thoughts.

MelissaM · 30/05/2007 20:53

Hi DivaSkyChick and welcome. Don't feel intimidated, we're a friendly lot!

I would contact your midwife, just to check you haven't been forgotten (I'm sure you haven't).

I'm sure at your next mw appointment they will note the position of the baby and size (info like this is detailed on my notes, but no one has pointed them out to me - I'm just nosey and want to know what everything means). I think the timing of appointments etc seems to vary hugely dependent on what part of the country you are in.

Hope all goes well.

2+1 enjoy your in-laws visit. Off to see my family this weekend, and staying at brother & sil's house. When I spoke to them earlier they have told me we can have their bed due to my increased girth! . Well they only have a single in their spare room - not enough room for me nevermind dh too! Hope they don't expect the same treatment - dh likes his own bed too much. That's 4 members of the family I have managed to turf out of their room while being pg!

JennsterSlugSlayer · 30/05/2007 21:11

DivaSkyChick - Hello there. There are that many of us in July we'll be fighting for school places.

Don't let anybody put you off having a home birth for your first, I had one and it was fabulous. I'm due 22nd and think I'm about a week ahead of you. I've had the same amount of contact with my midwife as you, so don't worry. Not seeing a consultant is brilliant because it means there is nothing wrong, and internals have gone out with the arc thank goodness! Make sure you confirm your wish for a homebirth at your next appointment though!

Jamantha · 30/05/2007 21:46

DSC - I've seen MW 4 times and had one planned GP appointment since I told GP I was preg. And had 2 hospital scans. (I'm 33 and half weeks)Agree that no consultant appointments means all is good. So sounds like you're, at least roughly, on normal ground. But I agree it can seem like ages between visits. Will probably wish it could stay that way over next few weeks though as according to info I've been given MW appointments increase in frequency from now on, so I may yet get fed up of going in to see her.
