Hi. Just discovered this thread (duh) and am due 22nd July. Hi all! Can i come and play?

Myfairone · 29/05/2007 14:35

Saf1 - I am so sorry to hear about your S.I.L. There is very little anyone can say to such devastating news. My thoughts are with you and your family.

JAM - Hope all is well with your Dad.

Beyonceen - Welcome to the thread. Think of this as your second home! You can let it all out here and I guarantee you we are impossible to shock!

Well, I am in a weird place today...hormones went crazy over the weekend. Went from deliriously happy to feeling like the world was about to end.

Good news is my friend had her first baby on Saturday and what a lovely labour story! She was in labour for 12 hours (but said that the time just flew by). She was going for an all natural birth but went for an epidural when she felt the true pain of labour. Mother and baby are perfect and she said she cannot stop looking at her and how beautiful she is!!!

I spent most of saturday crying tears of joy for my friends safe arrival and then had a massive argument with my Dh which left me feeling so desperately alone...

I think that all the crying has completely worn me out and today I feel really 'blah'! Feel like I want to cry and sit in the corner...which really isnt going to work because well, I'm in work!

Hope all are well and counting days till the safe arrival of our LO's.

Big hugs to all and their bumps.

lynnec · 29/05/2007 15:33

Cakehead, catstar, i dont feel too worried now, baby measured 32cm at 30 weeks, i was just getting a bit worried about the size of lo compared to the size of me

lynnec · 29/05/2007 15:40

Hi icklegem and Beyonceen.

Sorry to hear about your sil, saf. And about the problems getting the children over, that's a real shame. I know it's absolutely not the same, and no real substitute, but if they can't come over can you get webcams set up so that sil can at least see them and vice versa. A neighbour of ours died some time back and we offered to set them up a system so she could see her grandchildren in the states, who couldn't come over to see her in the last weeks. (She declined but appreciated the offer I think).

Still thinking of you, jam.

Hospital bags half packed here twoplusone. Probably a bit early, but decided better safe than sorry.

Miaou · 29/05/2007 18:59

Jam - so pleased to hear your dad is in the right place - what a time you have had though! I am still LOLing at the consultant and your brother though - a bit of light relief is just vital in that situation.

Saf - so sorry to hear about your sil, and on your behalf about the dh - those poor kids if they can't get over to see their mum!

I was really interested to hear about your hb levels and taking iron tablets - my blood test showed my levels to be 10.7 and the mw was wittering about me being on iron tablets, but the GP said that unless I went below 10.4 then she was quite happy. She pointed out that it's probably not my actual levels that have gone down, just that my blood volume has increased and therefore my hb is more diluted. Apparently "low" levels are decided against normal, non-pregnant people, so the chances of not being "low" at this stage in pregnancy are small.

Must dash - more later!

Jamantha · 29/05/2007 19:14

Mmm, seeing people discussing hb levels and measurements etc has made me realise that I've only had 2 lots of blood taken all through this pg. One early to check all levels etc, and one to check blood sugar when a GP got in a flap about diabetes after a little glucose found in my urine (and yes, I know better safe than sorry). Now >33 weeks and no idea what's going on with my blood. And other than 20 week scan saying small head, big tum, long legs, no idea about LO size either (thought told likely to be good size as me and DH both are). Wasn't too bothered until now, but suddenly worried that I'm missing out on knowing something important.

Catz · 29/05/2007 19:30

JAM - I'm glad that things seem to be working out with your dad's treatment. Hope all goes well with the scan tonight.

SAF - really sorry to hear about your SIL. It puts everything into perspectie.

Jamantha - I was also concerned after reading all the posts on bloods. I've checked my notes and I've only had one lot done and that was mid-Dec when I must have been about 9/10 wks. The only other blood test I had done was mid-Jan for the tripple test (but the didn't check anything else). My regular midwife was away for my 28 wk appointment and the stand-in said she'd only take blood tests if I was feeling particuarly tired. Am a bit worried now espeicially as I'm veggie so probably more at risk of anaemia anyway... Hmm seeing midwife on Fri so will ask her then.

Miaou · 29/05/2007 19:47

AFAIK you should have all had repeat blood tests at 28 weeks - I had mine done at 29 weeks. Perhaps worth checking up with your midwives?

Re scans - I had one at 13 weeks and that was it! Don't get 20 week scans here unless you have a history of problems (I could have had one as we do have congenital defects on both sides of the family, but we declined). I should get a scan at 36 weeks to check position of the baby, but not entirely sure about that - since we are moving I will be under a different hospital/midwife so we shall see.

Speaking of moving - we are going on Friday morning - wish me luck! We are super organised and most things are packed - just got the kitchen and the bathroom to pack up. Once we are in our new house I will start to think about having a baby ... honest!

huskygirl · 29/05/2007 19:57

Jamantha, i'm not sure what the actual amount of blood test are that your supposed to have I've had several but thats only cos i'm high risk, Ive had my last FBC done at 28 weeks, but i'm sure someone with better knowledge of these things will be along soon.

Regarding the measurements - i measured 35 weeks at my last midwife app - I was 31 weeks, trying soooo hard not to panic!!! Ive heard its not a very accurate way of measuring though, i've got another scan in 2 weeks so i'll ask then if they can tell how big he/she is.

Jam - that sure is a big clot isn't it no wonder the hospital staff hurried themselves up a bit. Hope that you're dad wont be in for too long.

Welcome icklegem and beyonceen

saf1 - thinking of you at this awful time. I can't even imagine the frustration you must feel at the childrens father

Hope everyone else is well

I had the most tiring day at Ikea got quite a bit of stuff but dd1 was v. grumpy and it really bugs me that you have to walk round the WHOLE store like your on a conveyor belt or something, i just wish you could just get straight to the section u want then go pay! and AAAARRRRGGGGHH whats with the loading area thing! So you come out and have a trolley full of stuff but you cant get the trolley past the big bollards they put just outside the exit, so i had to go walk back to the car (parked very far away as there were no spaces) then wait about 15 mins to be able to park next to the exit so dh could load the items into the car!! Not impressed!!!

Jamantha · 29/05/2007 20:16

I know the midwife said she wasn't going to take bloods a few weeks back, so sounds like I might have missed a set. Seeing her on Thursday so will ask, unless she's just decided to do them now instead. I wonder if because we declined tests other than the routine 12 and 20 week scans she thinks I'm not interested?

Huskygirl, when you say you measured 35 weeks at MW's, is that just the fundal height (is that the term I mean?) measurement?

MelissaM · 29/05/2007 20:36

Hi All

Where is time going? I seem to have missed a whole fortnight!

Thinking of you Jam & Saf.

Welcome iklegem & beyonceen.

Reading the comments about induction has reminded me that last week I heard in Germany they use a natural form of induction - a concoction of sparkling wine, fruit juice and rosen oil (can't work out what type of oil that is - maybe if any of you are in germany you have heard of it). Sounds good to me - I must find out more about it especially if champagne works best!

Sleepless nights are getting a real pain here too - definitely feel better if manage 6 hours, but very rare. Some nights dh sleeping in spare room as we're keeping each other awake.

Had MW app on Friday and lo is partially engaged! This is all getting a little real now. BH increasing and yes they are sometimes uncomfortable. I have nearly 6 wks left to go. I'm sure lo isn't meant to be engaged yet

Also might not be able to have the home birth I want due to the polyp which was removed a few weeks ago. Apparently there's a possibility of the scar opening up during labour. Anyone know anything about this? I really would rather stay home to have lo, cos dh hates hospitals (and I'm not so keen), but guess if there is a good reason for it I will try not to stress too much. (see other post)

Hugs to all.

huskygirl · 29/05/2007 21:03

erm Jamantha!! Not sure! She got a tape measure and measured me from top to bottom, had a poke around and then said I was measuring 35 weeks. With my dd1 though i was told all through my preg that i would be having a big baby etc and even on feeling my tummy was told this - she was 5lb (had eclampsia but even so she had never been bigger than 5lb) so I dont take much notice tbh

Jamantha · 29/05/2007 21:37

Sounds like that's what I thought you meant huskygirl. I was just getting confused over whether people meant their midwives had measured them, or if the midwives had some special way of measuring the actual size of the LO inside you.

Jamantha · 29/05/2007 21:39

BTW has anyone else developed any moles during their pregnancy? I've noticed one on the side of my face and would normally be getting a new mole checked, but just wondered if it could just be part of the weird and wonderful changes that seem to occur to pregnant women.

Princesspowersparkle · 29/05/2007 22:09

Hello July ladies! Just got back from a break in Devon so have bought you all virtual rock from my travels!
Getting very excited that I finish work on Friday (will be 33 weeks) and have 3 weeks 'holiday' before maternity starts. Getting close now and starting to get a bit nervous.
How is everyone else doing? Are any of you aching alot and have a very heavy feeling bump. My LO must weigh at least 2 stone already...

PPS (32+4) xxx

Caroline1852 · 30/05/2007 10:15

The fundal height measurement is not an exact science.... it is a rough idea. When I had DS2 they measured me and then scanned me at 38 weeks and told me I was having a nice neat baby who would be 7.5 lbs at term (estimated with the aid of an u/s scan). The fundal height was 2cm behind what it should be. He arrived on his due date (2 weeks later)weighing 9lbs 9oz. Personally, I would not therefore worry one jot about fundal height being + or - a few cms of what they say it should be.

Hi Everyone!

Welcome to the new people and thinking of those who are going through a rough time - as if pregnancy's not tough and emotional enough by itself without extra stressful and sad situations.

I'm still managing to keep my blood pressure stable which I'm really pleased about as it means I can stay at home rather than in hospital. Very dull though because I really am on virtual bedrest with the occasional outing for good behaviour and even that's usually just to the doctor!

I've decided that I'm fed up with being pregnant but not yet ready for the whole labour/having a newborn thing so really I'm screwed either way. I keep thinking it'd be nice to have the baby, freeze time for a month to start feeling vaguely human and like my body is my own again and then get on with dealing with a small person!

I just had a really embarrassing doctors appointment where I thought she'd want to do an internal so I walk in, whip my knickers off only for her to turn round and tell me she's only planning on doing ny blood pressure today...what's even worse is it then took me ages and a rather bizarre balancing act to get them on again - is anyone else finding the whole knickers/socks/shoes thing tricky?

Caroline1852 · 30/05/2007 12:23

Has anyone thought of any names for their LOs yet? I know I am having a boy which makes it much harder oddly enough. I rather like the name Otto (DP is half Austrian) - honest feedback much appreciated.

Caroline1852 · 30/05/2007 12:27

Weddingcake - your post made me laugh (thank you!). I am so bored with being pregnant now.
