Can't believe we need more space... again...

My plan for the next ten weeks is to try to have a house that looks less like a squalid hole by the time baby arrives. Little jobs every day, that's what I'm doing.

Today I am planning laundry.

Myfairone · 15/05/2007 16:36

Jennster - Sounds like a little too much gardening for my liking!!!!

I can no longer see my bikini line which is just as well because I don't imagine its very pretty right now!

I would like to make sure I can find someone to paint my toenails before the event!

Agnes - Sounds like a plan!

I'm planning on waiting for the so called 'nesting' to kick in before I start tackling my cleaning...Knowing my luck it won't hit me and the dust bunnies are safe!

Miaou · 15/05/2007 16:48

LOL at your lists! I have one too, only mine says things like "take boxes to charity shop, organise change of address, pack up everything we own ... "

I have just been to the dentist today - urgh. My lovely dentist decided to fit in all my treatment for me before I move as I have a snowball's chance in hell of getting another dentist once we have moved . However that meant having a load of tartar scraped off my teeth (yuk and OOWWWW) which would usually be done over several sessions, and a filling replaced (I have been living with a broken tooth and exposed nerve for 18 months!! ). I feel like absolute poo now but am SO glad I had it done. Dh is going next week for a load of work done too. The kids went last week and all three were declared to have fantastic teeth - the dentist nearly jumped for joy when dh told them that the only things they drink are milk and water - he sees so many kids with damaged teeth due to fizzy drinks and diluting juice, he said.

Re. the pain thing - gosh it varies so much, from one person to another and even from one labour to another. My first two children I had with an epidural which was fine, both were very positive experiences. My third I had in a birthing pool and that was fantastic, I actually enjoyed it! I remember thinking as I was pushing, "actually this isn't so bad"! This time around I won't have a birthing pool so I hope I can manage without pain relief as I don't get on with gas and air or pethidine and I don't want an epidural. I'm hoping they'll let me stay in the bath as long as possible ... . Really don't want a homebirth though - just not my thing.

Oh and just to add - toothache is FAR worse than labour as far as I'm concerned - as Jennster said, you get breaks in between contractions, which you don't with toothache! While I was in the dentist's chair this afternoon I was consoling myself with the thought that labour will not be a bad as this

agnesnitt · 15/05/2007 16:58

Myfairone, I've been nesting for weeks. I think it's all to do with finally having got the male out of my home and can now do things I want to do without wondering if he'll object

Now. I really must do that ruddy laundry or my daughter will be going to school in the nuddy tomorrow

Agnes

bilblio · 15/05/2007 17:29

LOL at Miaou. Sorry massive sympathy for your current tooth pain but could help laughing at you consoling yourself that childbirth will be easier.
I found \link(www.helpiammoving.com/moving_house/checklists_for_moving_home.php\this website} really useful when we moved house.

Jennster definitely too much gardening. Our garden is only small but it's on 3 levels with lots of steps. Last years I had lots of pots and hanging baskets. We haven't got an outside tap and the idea of lugging a watering can around every night to keep everything alive didn't appeal in the slightest. So this year I'm down to 5 pots on the first level, 4 are things which survived the winter and the other is a belfast sink with salad leaves in. Blokey hates gardening but likes cooking so I'm hoping I can persuade him to look after these few pots when I run out of energy.

As for visiting all the NT properties. I wanted to do that before the baby arrived but I think I've run out of time.

I've been thinking I might try guessing where my bikini line is and just give it a trim

Myfairone - I feel much happier knowing I'm not the only one fretting about getting to the hospital. Tell DH he's to speak to his boss and ask if he can have his mobile on properly nearer the time. Mitigating circumstances.

I'm lucky in a way that DP will be here with me as he doesn't work, but he doesn't drive either. We have no friends round here, and family members are all at least 45 minutes away so it's taxi or nothing. I might borrow an incontinence pad from work so we don't have to pay an extra £20 clean up charge

Oops try again

They have checklists for what to do and who to contact X number of weeks or days in advance of moving.

I'm determined to get it right.. I think I need to put "get eyes tested" on my list too.

foxybrown · 15/05/2007 18:47

Oh Kyte! Hello, you are on here? I'm going to try to find you that thread on the gift tonight - sorry haven't done it sooner - been nesting like mad today (which means I cleaned the powder drawer of the washing machine)

Thanks for including me in the stats Abgirl.

Am not even going to attempt to catch up as you guys! This AN Club is as busy as the June one. But, if I may, I am in SW London (anyone else?) expecting number 4 (have DS1 5, DS2 4 and DD 2.5, and having another DD).

Enough about me. How am I going to keep up with June and July?

Jamantha · 15/05/2007 19:03

Oh dear, I think my pregnant brain threw a definite wobbly this morning. All day i thought my pants were uncomfortable and a bit lopsided. Finally, at about half four I realised I'd put them on the wrong way round, with a leg hole wound my waist and one leg through the waist of the pants! At least I was comfortable on the bus home though

As for getting to hospital. DH is concerned about the car seats and keeps telling me I'll have to go in the boot . I keep telling him that leather seats are wipe clean though.

weddingcake · 15/05/2007 19:12

Just a quickie as my ankles are huge so must get back to lying down before I see the doctor tomorrow but...

Does anyone know if I'll be able to get a refund on my nct classes as am guessing it's unlikely I'll be able to attend.

It might be too late as they're due to start next week but the cash would come in very handy...could cheer myself up with some online retail therapy if nothing else!

Hope everyone is well this evening xx

madmumNika · 15/05/2007 20:26

Good luck tomorrow Weddingcake!

Midwife took my BP this afternoon & unfortunately it is up quite a bit So she's coming back to see me tomorrow.... Really hoping it was just another 'blip', as don't have any other symptoms. Not long til Thurs then I should get more answers & be able to relax again!

LO at the lists - & Jamantha's pregnany brain!! . Jennsterslugslayer- do you have any slaying tips as slugs have just eater ALL my petunias which I planted 2 weeks ago...nothing but sorry stumps left- so much for my colourful border!! Because of DS, DP doesn't think we should use pellets, so I was going to make traps (beer in bottom of sunken jars) but unfortunately they may also be a source of mischief for DS!! Any tips? I planted quite a few pots this year but no vegetables.... except may grow some salad... Last summer my veggies took quite a lot of TLC & what with possible long hospital stays I thought I better be realistic this summer!!

Trying to resist making lists myself...suppose in a weird way as I know I may end up in hospital sooner rather than later (although hope not) I am now feeling fairly resigned.... Though I do wish I could bank on having at least 2 more months!!

Hi all,

God this thread is moving fast, and I am always at a loss when I read everything you're all up to. Sorry for not directly responding to everyone. Some of you are soo good at it!

WeddingC and MMN - glad you're getting some rest in and hope things stabilise a bit.

WCake, I think there's some kind of cancellation policy with the NCT. But agree with JAM that they are often oversubscribed so it's probs worth ringing your local organiser, tell them about your situ and suss out whether they can reallocate your space and refund you the money.

Tonight I went to one of our parentcraft classes. It mainly made me realise how much I've learned from MN. But more importantly it scared the crap out of my DH and he's all of a sudden very understanding and sympathetic about what we have to go through!

Anyone have any thoughts on the pethidine vs meptid debate? Meptid sounds better to me, and I'm trying to line up anything other than gas and air (I'm another one willing myself to handle it all with water, TENS and G&A!). Am I the only dim one who thought that a mobile epidural was actually mobile? It seems not!

Anyway - it's getting close for us all now. I really can't believe it's all happening. I wonder who will be first to 'go'...

Take care!

OP posts:
JennsterSlugSlayer · 15/05/2007 21:23

Weddingcake- pretty sure you should be able to get a refund if you let them know soon enough

Jamantha- was cursing all morning pulling my maternity top down all the time until lunchtime when I realised it was on back to front

Foxy- I use a dirty sock to wipe the drawer of my machine out, then stick it in the next wash.

Madmum- I go round the garden in the evening after giving it a quick water, and then lift up leaves and collect them and slay the quickly.

Jamantha · 15/05/2007 21:27

Sorry, this might be TMI, but need to get it off chest. Had fairly clear mucousy/jelly/snot like stuff when I wiped this evening after having a wee. Prob a teaspoon or so worth. Not had any noticable discharge through the pregnancy until tonight. Rang MW (even though I felt like a fool) who said it's probably nothing to worry about, but to keep an eye on things. From reading previous MN threads could be part of plug, could be just disharge, but needn't mean anythings happening for a while. Still scared (yet excited) at the same time though - only 31 weeks, not ready yet!

jendos · 15/05/2007 21:28

Oh my - are we talking about who's "first to go" already? I'm not ready yet....

Jamantha · 15/05/2007 21:30

I don't want to be first!

JennsterSlugSlayer · 15/05/2007 21:33

Jamantha, if it becomes blood flecked then that is what a plug is like. Sounds like a normal discharge for me! Having said that the plug came 5 days before I went into labour last time.

Jamantha · 15/05/2007 21:37

Hope so Jennster, really not ready yet - my Dad's painting the spare room for us next week, and we've got 2 other rooms downstairs to get decorated (not that I intend going up a stepladder at this stage) and a ton of stuff to clear out as yet.

b2summer · 15/05/2007 22:14

Hey any expecting mums still at college. I am 19 and nearly finished first year at colllege. I dont think I would be able to handle being both full time student and then going home in the evenings to a baby that would be only a couple of months old, then trying to study when its asleep. Does anyone know if there are courses available for students like me in college that I may be able to do at home and just having to go to the college for the exams. Anyone help please it would be very grateful.

bilblio · 16/05/2007 00:08

Madmum - I wait till the slugs have really annoyed me, then late at night I go round with the salt pot and kill them all that way. I'm such a lovely vegetarian.
TBH I can only face doing it when I'm drunk, or if I've just squished one accidentally. The lack of alcohol this year has saved many a slug. The only things I'm really protective of are my hostas which live in pots with sharp gravel on the top.

Cyee - Wish I could help you but I've never heard of meptid so it doesn't look like it's available where we are.

Jamantha - that sounds like what I've had through most of my pregnancy. TBH I'm shocked when there isn't any discharge.

As we're talking TMI though. I noticed last night that my boobs have started leaking not huge amounts, but even so it was a bit of a surprise!

agnesnitt · 16/05/2007 01:22

bilblio, my boobs have been leaking for an age now. I'm hoping that this is a sign that I might get some decent milk production this time round. Last time I produced enough to feed my daughter but couldn't express for toffee so feeding was a solo enterprise for a fair while

b2summer, I've not heard anyone on this thread say they're at college. Good luck to you with the remainder of the term. Not long to go now

Right. I'm away to my pit. I'm having a new front door fitted tomorrow and apparently the fitters will be here at eight in morning. Swines!

Agnes

Jamantha · 16/05/2007 01:53

b2summer - have you looked at the Open University? I've studied with them in the past, studying in the evenings after work and at weekends. You can fit your hours in to suit you more or less.

twoplusone · 16/05/2007 09:37

madmumnika and Weddingcake.. good luck with the docs and mw today..

TBH havent read through all the posts quickly skimmed..

Hope everyone else is ok..

I am finding int difficult to get to sleep on a night now.. just trying to get comfortable and heart burn..
I am still favouring to sleep n my tummy alitle.. which isnt fair on lo.. I try to stay on my left but always seem to end up on my right..

Stratoing to panik a little now as remembering all the little bits I still need to go and buy.. namely blankets and bedding for lo..

Caroline1852 · 16/05/2007 09:39

For anyone having trouble with slugs, it's worth trying broken eggshells around your tender plants. I put them round my hostas and the slugs leave well alone. I just top them up every time we have boiled eggs.
I had a really bad day yesterday and felt so uncomfortable. I am sure it is to do with the way LO is lying. Today I look about two stone lighter and feel much more comfortable, I think because LO is in a more compact position working with the contours of my body instead of in transverse recline, using me like a parker knoll chair.
