I also heard that a ring of copper wire round a plant will ward off slugs too - apparently they don't like the sensation of crossing it.
My last day at work on Friday and I can't wait. I'm 33 weeks now and seem to be prone to every cold, bug, germ known to man. Keep thinking this must be a boy as no girl would put her mother through this. DD certainly didn't.
Baby is lying breech, so have terrible 'rib flare' as the Americans call it - that sensation of having your ribs slowly prised up by a can-opener. And I just can't get comfortable any which way except lying down.
Bah.

Hi Kyte, I'm sorry but I've not been able to find it. It was about 2 months ago, I think. I'll let you know if I come across it!

Miaou - HOpe your teeth feel better today...what a big brave girl you are having all that work done! Thank you for sharing your pain experiences. I hate toothache so at least it gives me a gauge re the pain!

Bilblio - I would definitely limit the number of plants you have to take care of! Or give DH another job to add to his list! I am sure that the hospital panic will fade into insignificance once labour starts! We will all get there one way or another!

Agnes - Send me some of your nesting instinct will ya?

Madmumnika and weddingcake - Good luck with those midwife appointments. Hope all goes well.

Jamantha - how are you today? any more discharge? I have noticed that my discharge seems to be increasing a bit.

Twoplusone - In full agreement that sleeping is a problem. I have moved into the spare room and had a total of 7 pillows in use last night! I manage to fall asleep but an hour later I'm up peeing and then cannot get back off. Feel like I'm getting a total of 10 mins sleep per night!

Cakehead - We are in the same boat (Except your finishing work and I'm not
Mine is still breech and I feel soooo uncomfortable. Getting kicks in the left groin and the rib flare you speak of! Just hoping it turns around but seems its comfy just the way it is! Been told its a lazy boy! (even though we haven't found out the sex!)

I don't mean to complain but I so cant get comfortable today. When I walk around I feel so heavy and then when I sit my tummy just feels like it wants to come up to my neck! Heartburn and leg cramps are getting worse by teh day too!

Okay, moan over!

Big hugs to all and their bumps.

Jamantha · 16/05/2007 11:31

Hi myfairone. Not feeling so great today. Have even come home from work ill. Very bad night's sleep, and just feeling drained, flushed and generally out of sorts. Am taking it easy, and am waiting to speak to duty doctor at the GPs as suspect might have slight infection.

Hope everyone else is OK though - that appointments go well and general discomforts ease off.

Cakehead · 16/05/2007 12:33

Cyee and Kyte, mobie epidurals can be mobile if they're done properly. I had one two years ago and it was great. Had it at around 8cms after 36 hours of contractions as was tired, and it was like a new lease of life. Was still able to walk around, stand up, do that hula thing with my hips that helps the baby descend, but it just meant that DH had to hover next to me in case I tripped, and he had to pull the drip along behind me. I was standing up for part of the delivery, and then was able hop up on to the bed. Was as mobile as ever, to be honest. And was able to go for a shower shortly after DD was born. I've heard subsequently that to get the balance of pain relief and mobility quite right is tricky, but I was lucky enough to have a very good NHS anaethetist. But they are out there!

Cyee · 16/05/2007 12:48

Thanks Cakehead - that's very good to know. What you described is exactly what I'd want if I get knackered or need that extra help. Thanks

Jamantha - Sorry to hear you don't feel well. You did the best thing by going home for sure. Sounds like it could be an infection, at least best to get it checked. I am sure some rest and TLC will make you feel tons better. Maybe try and get a few zzzzz's in?

Cakehead - Mobile epidural sounds great! I did read that not all hospitals do them because they need a highly trained person to do them.

agnesnitt · 16/05/2007 14:03

Just popped on to say that builders officially make me giggle. I've got one replacing my front door as I type, and another crew will be playing with my front windows tomorrow. Means that all the work that I need to be in the house for will be finished by weekend if I'm lucky.

Also, the myriad different ways they can get a bunch of swearwords to fit together is entertaining as hell

Take care of yourselves.

Agnes

Jamantha · 16/05/2007 15:01

thanks myfairone. I should have some antibiotics to collect by end of afternoon.

Agnes - the collective use of swearwords that always has me and DH giggling is when I remind him of a guy where I used to work who said "the f-ing f'er's f-ing f'ed". OK not the most extensive swear vocabulary but quite impressive we thought.

Myfairone · 16/05/2007 15:44

Nothing wrong with a good ol' swear up!

Note to self: Really must give up swearing so that LO doesn't start repeating...guess I'm okay for a while

Jamantha, take care of yourself and rest up!

Agnes - Hope the builders dont have you making too much tea!!!!

Big hugs to all and their bumps.

weddingcake · 16/05/2007 16:08

Am very excited because I'm still at home with internet access!

I saw the doctor today and my blood pressure and protein seem to have stabilised so the immediate panic seems to have abated! Obviously it's now tempting to go back to 'normal' but I'm guessing it's all the rest that's keeping things under control so it's worth continuing just to keep me at home and LO safely inside! Thankyou so much for all your support over the past week ladies - it's really appreciated.
Hope madmumnika's appointment has gone/goes well too.

The problem is that I have far too much time to think and subsequently panic when I'm lying in bed. I feel like I've been pregnant forever and have had enough of that but I'm not quite sure how ready I am for a baby either. Oh well - too late now!

I also decided that if I'm not going to make my antenatal classes then I really should stop ignoring the chapters on labour in my books...then I decided to read a magazine instead! I will be brave soon though! I have visions of me putting the book in the freezer when it gets too scary like Joey and Rachel in that episode of friends!

Take Care xx

Jamantha · 16/05/2007 16:24

great news WC. Keep up the good work. I've been doing some reading about labour and not found descriptions too bad, though not keen on pictures - they're either too graphic or too sentimental for my liking I'm afraid. Given the choice I prefer the graphic ones actually, but am quite happy to stick to a good description.

madmumNika · 16/05/2007 16:26

Weddingcake- really glad things have stabilised and you are still at home- yey!

Luckily my BP too has come down a little since yesterday, although is still a bit higher than what was 'normal' for me a week ago. I still feel a little on tenderhooks until after the scans/dopplers/cons appt tomorrow at the hospital- just wish I could fastforward to tomorrow afternoon & know everything really is fine. Am terribly nervous after what happened last pregnancy

Weddingcake- don't think too much about things (v hard when supposedly resting a lot)- you will find you adapt to your baby very quickly once he/she makes an appearance, although I really hope you have a good few more weeks yet with LO staying cooking inside! I had no idea really that DS would end up being born at 30 wks, and the night of his birth I lay awake in shock for ages, all sorts of mad thoughts running through my brain. But soon once I could start to care for him mothering instinct took over & I was head over heals in love. There is never a perfect time to have a baby but you WILL be fine (((( ))))

LOL at the builders swearing Agnes! I have a friend who is convinced LO can hear well & so won't swear around me just in case!!!

Jamantha- hope you start to feel better soon- did you manage to get hold of a doctor? Take it easy & try to rest lots. xxx

weepiglet2 · 16/05/2007 16:42

Hi folks, Is there any room for another one on your huge stat list?

I am due on 26th July - first baby -

pretty crap pregnancy so far - just back at work part time after 6 weeks of enforced sick leave and feeling knackered. Had looked forward to an active pregnancy with lots of swimming walking yoga etc while working to the bitter end (serves me right eh?). Hopefully things can only get better

lynnec · 16/05/2007 17:28

Hi weepiglet, and welcome.

Ladies, wanted to ask if anyone has tried the birthing pool and if so how did it go???
I was thinking about the tens, then found out my hospital has the birthing pool, dont want to go for the epidural as the thought of needles makes me ill...im petrified of them...gas and air makes me sick...but if the contractions are anything like the pain ive had this week then it will be anything!!! Even epidural!!!

Hope you are all having a nice week so far! x

Jamantha · 16/05/2007 17:44

hi weepiglet welcome on board.

lynnec - no b.pool experience but have heard good reports.

madmumnika - spoke to doc, got some antibiotics. Have just started the course, and obviously no effect yet but it's my reflexology session tonight, which should make me feel rather better and usually guarantees a good nights sleep. So hopefully will be a bit perkier tomorrow.

Hi all
Sorry I haven't been around for a while. Have been trying to catch up with thread but not quite there yet. Have been backwards and forwards to hospital last few weeks as had more bleeding. Turned out to be a polyp on my cervix, which as they had partially knocked it off having a look, decided to remove. Not particularly pleasant, but at least they have finally found the cause of my bleeding. Only they didn't tell me that I still need to take it easy or I might have more bleeding from where it was removed. So ended up back at the hospital a few days later after a bigger bleed. They kept me in for monitoring for two days which has made me even more convinced that I don't want to have the baby in the hospital - home birth for me please (with birthing pool and tens)! That said, I know I was in the best place if something was going to happen or really was wrong, and they do monitor the baby v frequently to make sure everything is ok.

At least I got a week off work out of it when the sun was shining

Back at work last week and all seems ok. LO is v active - definitely a wriggler who likes keeping mum awake at night!!

Sorry to hear that some of you have been having problems/haven't been very well.
Weddingcake - glad things have settled down. Keep taking it easy though, but try not to think too much

Madmum - hope everything went ok today with mw.

Swift1/Lynnec - I was camping at the weekend (at 32 wks) and was fine. Found the airbed more comfy than my own bed as it seemed to support the bump really well.

Bilbio - re nursing bras - I'm in my third set of maternity bras (gone from 32DD to 36G ) and I'm not convinced that these are going to last another 7 1/2 wks. I am planning on buying nursing bras round about 37/38wks to make sure they have some chance of fitting when LO is born.

Thanks for the tips of dealing with slugs - have just planted out loads of veggies and something is definitely eating them. will give some of these a go.

Welcome to the newbies. Hugs to all.

MelissaM · 16/05/2007 18:30

Sorry for such a long post

Myfairone · 16/05/2007 18:40

Melissa - Sorry to hear about your difficulties but nice to have ya back girl!

Jamantha - Hopefully they will do the trick!

LynneC - Again i have no idea about the birthing pool but heard lots of good things about it. I too am afraid of needles but going to see how it goes before I say no to anything

Welcome Weepiglet2, always room for one more on here. We are a chatty bunch so I am sure you will find plenty to talk about! Sorry your pregnancy hasn't been a good one so far...hopefully the next few weeks will fly by for you.

Madmum and Weddingcake - Glad to see you both still at home and hats off to both of you for doing as you are told!

I am soooooo exhausted tonight...already in my pj's (6.40), going to eat and then watch some tv before going to bed (for what its worth!)

hugs to all and their bumps

abgirl · 16/05/2007 19:50

Madmumnika, just a quick one to say best of luck with your scan tomorrow!

lynnec · 16/05/2007 21:33

Myfairone, im the same...im not ruling any pain relief out, will give the birthing pool a go along with the tens and take it from there. Packed my hospital bag, dr wants to see me back in 3 weeks due to baby being so low down and being 30cm so not taking any chances!! Hasnt it flew in for us all????
