Welcome all !!!!

Agree with Annie. Have just had 2 weeks school hols and looking forward to getting back. Probably coz everyone is lovely at the mo and keeps asking how I am. Sat at home with halfpint can be a bit boring.
Has anyone bought the Davina dvd? I have and find it a bit slow - could do with more action. Might change mind when 35+ weeks.

tokentotty · 13/04/2007 15:32

What DVD's that then ?

OP posts:
Mrsshuvel · 13/04/2007 15:49

Funbun - Please explain about DVD as i haven't heard of it either.

MrsBadger · 13/04/2007 16:04

this one?

Augustbride · 13/04/2007 16:15

It's the last day of a fortnights holiday for me and it has made me think about what it will be like when I am on maternity leave.
I really miss the adult company that being at work gives me and am worried that 8 months at home will drive me stir crazy!
I have looked around for Mum's 'n' babies groups in the area but wthout much luck.
The only one I can find is at the nursery that feeds into the school I work at, so don't think I'll feel very comfortable with parents of children I have taught/ may teach in the future.
Anyone any experience of this , good or bad?

conkertree · 13/04/2007 16:24

havent tried it but i do her non-pregancy one which i quite like and so was thinking of trying this one. got pilates in pregnancy and it feels slow to me although maybe i'm not doing it properly.

regarding time off - i'm hoping to work up to about 20th july - 1 1/2 weeks before due cause really dont fancy being at home on my own for too long, and my work is 5 mins from the hospital whereas home is about 30 mins away.

Would love to take the full 9 months but again dont know if we can afford it. will aim for that and if not, i think i'm going back part time anyway so it hopefully will be easier to go back earlier if i have to.

dh's job is quite flexible time wise so we are hoping to be able to have the baby with him 2 days, with me 2 days, and we havent quite worked out the 5th day - maybe a child minder - my sil is one fairly nearby so that might be an option.

hope everyone has a fun/relaxing weekend lined up - i'm off to watch the melrose rugby sevens - first time without being able to enjot a pint in the sun for quite a few years, but sure it will be fun anyway.

JSer · 13/04/2007 16:28

I was motivated by chat of mat leave to sort mine out. I've decided to take 6 days leave beforehand and start mat leave on my due date. i work from home so it's not exactly stressful for me to get to work! I wanted to maximise my 6wks paid leave.

After reading and NCT magazine that a friend gave me I decided to make reading MN posts as a "trigger" to do pelvic floor exercises. I suggest we all do that and we can laugh at the mental images of all of us squeezing whilst typing/reading messages!

funbun · 13/04/2007 16:31

Sorry, popped out and didn't explain myself. I meant the Davina McCall pre and post pregnancy fitness dvd. I bought it last week, quite expensive (£19). It's quite good and shes lovely and looks about 30+ weeks preggers in it, like I said when I'm bigger maybe I'll find it more suitable. Conkertree are you still doing the regular davina dvd?

Annie75 · 13/04/2007 16:32

Hmm, no, but I'm banking on liking the people I'm on the NCT classes with in July. Had a friend who said they made good friends with the couples there and that they still all meet up even though their babies are 6 months plus.

There's a baby cafe where I live too, which is meant to be a friendly place for dropping in. Check out your local NCT club as there might be something nearby: www.nct.org.uk/

Annie75 · 13/04/2007 16:34

Ah yes - me too JSer! Have started er, noticing when I cough or sneeze so I'd better do some pelvic floors Any idea where I can find the right exercises to do?

funbun · 13/04/2007 16:38

Imagine you're having a wee and stop yourself mid flow. That is your pelvic floor. You need to hold for 5+ seconds and then gently release - not when weeing - sorry! Also try to make squeezes more intense each time like your going upstairs - do 10 of these at a time finishing with a real face scruncher!

JSer · 13/04/2007 16:41

The NCT magazine (bumps and babies or something like that) had the best descriptions i've read, it said there was 3 different types and you should do up to 50 a day - yikes! My friend got the mag from a NCT "speedbumps" event where she met other couples. I guess you might be able to get it from their website or ask a local rep...

I couldn't go to that event but i'm going to try and go to the next one. I don't think we have much nct stuff here (I'm in durham) but i'd like to try and meet some other new mums.

Btw with the pilates vids etc are they easy to follow if you've never done pilates or yoga or anythign like that before?

kiteflying · 13/04/2007 16:52

My secretary reassures me that the little pains I have felt on either the left or the right side at odd sort of times are no longer stretching pains (even though they feel exactly like) and are probably the baby kicking. She says to look out for bubble feelings. I think I will sit quietly tomorrow and will the baby to give me a sign.

Conker your weekend sounds fab. Your child-looking after plans with hubby sound great too.

Augustbride - maybe if you go to NCT coffee mornings/ post natal club type thing you will meet women who are not your prospective parents committee? I am at a bit of a loss to know how to meet other mothers myself but I am crossing that bridge when I come to it. Our local midwives apparently get new mothers together somehow as well.

Annie ring her back and tell her nothing has worked and can you have someone check you out.

GillL · 13/04/2007 16:53

Thanks for your comments Annie75. It's nice to know I'm not alone in how I feel.

Hope you all have a nice weekend. Will catch up on Monday if I don't get the chance to check in at the weekend.

kiteflying · 13/04/2007 16:55

OK I took way too long to send that and crossed with at least a dozen other replies.

Annie - I did not mean to sound so peremptory - just meant if you are still worried (you sound like you are not though)

conkertree · 13/04/2007 16:59

no funbun - sorry that post was a little deceptive - not still doing them - too many jerky movements.

i do think the pilated dvd was very easy to follow but after doing more aerobics sorts of exercises, i wasnt sure what to expect and just didnt feel like i'd done very much - although purplerabbit did it with me and she had a few aches and pains the day after so maybe she was just trying harder.

annie - i have had a couple of episodes like you describe where i did start getting worried about no movement, but wasnt sure who to phone anyway (i really need to get that sorted) and left it, and i felt kicking after a few days. think i've felt it enough now recently that i'd phone if i felt worried though and so i'd phone again if i were you - it must be one of the things they expect to deal with a lot, and its surely always better to be on the safe side.

kiteflying · 13/04/2007 17:03

funbun - I have also been told that you should try doing them when you are mid-wee, to try out your effectiveness I guess.

Will be a handy trick for those times when you left to wait for an ultrasound scan too long as well...(during my IVF this was often a problem and you would be given a cup and told you were only allowed to fill a quarter of it. Eeeuuucch)

Annie75 · 13/04/2007 17:16

Hooray - I think I felt a kick - much, much lighter than normal, more like a little bubble popping - about 15 mins ago, so will see if I get some more over the next few hours. I had a dull ache in my womb the day before yesterday, so am now wondering if it moved and that's why am not feeling it. Thanks for all the support this pm - I feel like I've a plan!

Have a good weekend all - am off shortly to do test out my pelvic floor in the cinema .

bananabump · 13/04/2007 17:17

I find pelvic floor excercises easier to concentrate on if I clench and unclench my fist in the same rhythm at the same time. I probably look like I'm plotting a murder!

I'm trying to do them through every ad break on tv, and whenever else I remember or read the words.

Augustbride · 13/04/2007 18:38

Thanks for the advice about meeting other mums Annie and kiteflying.
I have looked on the NCT website and it looks like although they don't meet in my local town they do have group meetings about 4 miles away which should be easy enough to go to.
Like the idea of their sales aswell - any excuse to pick up a few bargains!

growingbagpuss · 14/04/2007 08:14

Annie - just to add my 2p worth - kicking is like buses - u can wait all day for them, and then several all come at once - especially if you are visiting the midwife at the time!!

See your m/w and then at least you can pretty much gurantee LO will jump up and down.

I worked 12 .5hrs yesterday, and when I finally sat down and actually rested, she leapt up and down like a crazy thing!!

Hope everything is ok.

bananabump · 14/04/2007 13:32

Anyone got leaky boobs yet? Mine have been active for about a month but one has suddenly gone mental overnight and I woke up with very wet arm and bed (sorry if TMI)

Plus they've always been slightly uneven, but now I notice it's the bigger one who is really leaky and the other one just isn't at all. Is this normal in pregnancy, and does anyone know if they'll even up at all when my milk comes in after the birth? I get the feeling I'm going to end up with one humungous Jordan-esque boobly and one little stunted one!

Washersaurus · 14/04/2007 13:38

Hi bananabump - my boobs also look on the verge to start producing milk again (only stopped BF DS last July). Wonky boobs are normal btw so don't worry, after the birth you will find that depending on which side baby fed from last the full one will always be a bit bigger as full of milk - you get used to it..honest!

Washable breast pads are my recommendation if leaking already (they are cheap and don't rustle or give you that target look like disposable ones IYKWIM)

boobooma · 14/04/2007 15:08

Hello, boobs not wet leaky but get a little bit crusty with dried milk, yum yum.

99cm belly at 21 weeks but only put on 4 pounds so far

itchyncsratchy · 15/04/2007 09:21

Hi everyone,
Eugh me too I had a slightly crusty looking nipple one day.. a bit early at 21 weeks I thought, I haven't breastfed for 13 years.
I was wondering if it's normal for baby to be bouncing constantly all day. Yesterday it seemed as though babe didn't rest, it was lovely and reassuring for most of the day but by late night still dancing and I started to worry that perhaps she's in distress. She still jumping around this morning from my first waking. What do you think?
