Welcome all !!!!

Are your children’s vaccines up to date?
tokentotty · 18/04/2007 14:29

No idea when I'll get to fit a trial in actually Although, the company I spoke to that gave me the prices said delivery time was a couple of days so I'm not going to worry about ordering it late on

You're all making me so talking about buying new buggies. I would love a new one but I don't think I could justify the expense to dh

tokentotty · 18/04/2007 14:53

I'd just like the magic pushchair fairy to drop me off one that'll be perfect for me without my having to do anything...

Hersetta · 18/04/2007 15:07

Another one to add to the mix - the britax vigour 4 which is another bugaboo look a like but half the price. Comes in fantastic colours (love the turquiose and the wine colours) and reviews say it is much lighter than the icandy.

Also has the advantage of being compatible with the car seat we're going to buy - the britax cosy tot premium.

Decisions, decisions......

loler · 18/04/2007 15:11

I think we've pretty much decided on the silver cross 3D too - the main selling point for me is that it folds up nice and small - so in between a stroller and a pram. DH only likes it in jet (i.e. black) though which seems to be exclusive to mothercare and so more expensive. Was also looking at the M&P pilko mod but is interesting to hear the quaility is not so good - all my friends with old M&Ps were really pleased with them.

We've been given a date to move (in 2 weeks) - everything has moved so quickly (only put house for sale at end of Feb) and am really not at all prepared. Will be nice to have everything sorted and can get on with being fat and tired in a nice big house!

DH has started feeling kicks and it's the first time he's really shown much interest at all - he did say the other night that it all feels like it's starting to be real - ummm that started for me a while back!

Hersetta · 18/04/2007 15:20

They were the first two prams I looked at and though'd I'd get one, but am slightly put off by the fact that once you stop using the pramette when baby is 5/6 months old they have to go into a forward facing buggy - no option of having it rear facing which is why they fold up much smaller than others.

Must admit all this pram stuff is really doing my head in - I want a pram fairy too!

tokentotty · 18/04/2007 15:22

I think my brain is going to explode if I think about any more prams. It's hurting already.....

Hey Loler, that's absolutely fab news about your house move. Is great that you've got a good few months to settle in and get things straight before the baby comes.

OP posts:
loler · 18/04/2007 15:39

Had my brain exploding moment a while back - have decided that my other 2 never face backwards and was never really an issue - as long as there's a window at the top of the rain cover to look through.

My main hate about bigger pushchairs is getting them in and out of the car and them using all the boot space up. It gets really annoying - but don't feel right putting a new born into an unpadded stroller.

Liked these two as they have a little step on the back for older children to ride on and there by getting rid of my hated buggy board!

Annie75 · 18/04/2007 16:16

Hello August mum-to-bes. Continuing the well-worn pram dilemma, I bought a second hand Bugaboo Frog advertised through work. It was in ace condition and came with all the extras. I saw it and bought it on the spot - a third of what I'd pay new. I'd done some research into prams and there's no way I'd spend £600, so decided getting a high spec one second hand was the way to go. Did notice that they regularly come up on eBay. It's dead light and does well in the countryside if you like walking, plus it can face to you or out with an easy flick of the handle. The woman I bought it from made putting it up and down look simple - though I'd better master it before the baby's born!

If money were no object, I'd be sorely tempted by a Stokke Exploratory - think the idea of having your baby raised high and facing you or out is really nice. Also saw an E3 the other day - one of the ones which is dead handy if you have a baby already and that looked like good fun.

Have become a pram spotter since being pregnant and noticed that virtually everyone has a Quinny or a Bugaboo - or a McClaren stroller. Guess they must all be ok.

tokentotty · 18/04/2007 16:38

Oooh Annie...I'm not sure at all about that Stokke one. Looks a little bizarre to me !
But then again, I am spectacularly ungroovy I must admit

pinkranger · 18/04/2007 16:48

hi ladies , how are we today??

Well im glad i dont have to make a choice with the avalible prams out now, we are going to use DS old travel system, cleaned it up at the weekend and it looks like New, and when he was 6 months we got a maclaren and used that up until 3! So will do the same this time round ,there are some scans tomorrow and friday?? mine is Friday at 8.40 and bricking it a little!

tokentotty · 18/04/2007 16:52

Hello Pink !!! Am getting very excited about all the scans tomorrow and Friday. How are you feeling (apart from the bricking it bit...) ?
So, to continue the current debate, which travel system is it that you have...?

OP posts:
pinkranger · 18/04/2007 16:56

i got the Britax one (5 years old now 0 but it is big so so good aswell, ds had lots of room to sleep in it, it came with ,car seat, raincover, apron, cosy toes, changing bag - all for £120.00!! It has kept really well, and i know that i love the maclaren, so will end up with that!!

Looking forward to friday but feel thats its a stage i need to get past before it become real ( Best friend had bad news at her 22Wk one) so i thik that i keep thinking of that but im sure everything will be o.k, and hoping that they confirm that its a boy!!

Annie75 · 18/04/2007 17:06

Oh hi TT - as a fellow mum-to-be on the 10th, how are you feeling? We've less than 4 months to go . 114 days, in fact.

Do you mind me asking whether you think your bump is small, medium or large? I'm getting a bit paranoid mine is on the small side, but then again, I'm 5"8, so maybe it's just distributing differently. Have felt lots of little movements over last few days and am getting a fair amount of heartburn

Yeah, the Stokke certainly is a radical-looking pram - kinda why I like it, I guess.

Good luck with your scan, Pinkranger!

pinkranger · 18/04/2007 17:10

Thanks Annie, cant belive we only have 4 months left ,all seems closer now the warmer weather is coming in!!

Mrsshuvel · 18/04/2007 17:27

Am off home now so good luck to all those with scans tomorrow.

tokentotty · 18/04/2007 17:27

114 Days ?? I keep feeling that 4 months is AGES away but the weeks do seem to be passing pretty quickly if I look back. As for my bump being s/m/l...depends who you ask. One minute someone says it's very neat and the next I'm hearing, "oooh you're big". I have no idea. Am 5'5" so can try and post another bump shot in the next couple of days if you like for you to compare?

treacletart · 18/04/2007 17:37

Hi all - haven't posted for a while. In fact this is my first time on part 4. Lots of newcomers too that's cool! Have you all noticed how many more boys than girls there are on the stats so far? 10:4 at the moment

Things are much cheerier in camp treacletart. Very relieved to report that the osteopath seems to have sorted my SPD out. I've barely had a twang since the weekend. Also saw a consultant this morning who reassured me a bit about the birth. I'm going to have to be induced because I'm on blood thinning drugs and because DS came much too fast. She told me they'll be checking me from 37 weeks and will break my waters, but only once my cervix is favourable naturally and not before. She says things should progress quite quickly after that. I've had nightmares about a protracted painful labour and an emergeny section. I'm desperate to use the birthing pool but there's only one of them at our hospital so I'm also envisaging wrestling another desperate labouring mother for it.

As to buggies - DS had one of the first Micralite models and I've loved it, but after 3 years intensive use I'm keen to get a new one for his sister. I love it's lightness, big back wheels and manoueverability. It's a cinch one handed. I'd buy another with carrycot this time like a shot were it not that I've got my heart set on getting a rear/front facing one. I could/would never spend £600 on a Bugaboo and I'm very envious of your bargains. Most of the ebayed ones I've seen have been around the £400 mark (they certainly hold thir value well that's for sure!) Think I may go for a cheaper lookalike - maybe a Hauck infinity or a Firstwheels city elite?

I think my bump's enormous - I'm already getting lots of "not long to go now?" remarks and I don't remember being much bigger even at the end with DS. Consultant measured me this morning as bang on 24cm - at 24 weeks so guess I'm not quite as huge as I'd thought.

Good luck with all the remaining scans! x

Hersetta · 18/04/2007 17:37

Ooh that's me - got my scan at 8am tomorrow morning!

Hopefully will be checking in with good news by midday.

See you all tomoorow - off home now!

Annie75 · 18/04/2007 17:38

Oh yes, just checked your profile (noticed we are same age too. Is it your first?). Aw - your scan pics are lovely and so clear! Did you get them done privately? Mine are much more blobby (the pics, hopefully not the baby!).

Reckon my bump looks like yours in the pic size-wise (a neat bump, I'd say). Am only fretting a bit because of this AFP level thing after my 20 week scan, where they told me the baby was measuring well but could end up small. Won't worry until it is, though.

Maddison · 18/04/2007 21:32

Hi all, good luck to everybody who has scans tomorrow and Friday, so exciting

Since I have changed hospitals, I got an appointment through the post this morning for another scan next Thursday, so I get to see my 3rd little boy again

'the answer to this pram/buggy thing is a puzzle, wrapped up in a conundrum, bound within an enigma' - that is SO true - even though our choice is narrowed down because we need a double as DS2 still sleeps a lot in his current pram. Trouble is, I don't want a side by side because of the enormous hassle of trying to get in and around every shop I go into and the tandems when folded are so long I would struggle to get them in the car. Dh is set on a Phil & Teds, but I can't justify spending £500ish on a pram, doubles kit, cosytoes etc when I think DS2 will be out of a pram after about a year. The only 2 good things about them are that they fold down smallish (smaller than any of the tandems) and they convert back to a single buggy. BUT an assistant in Mothercare showed me how to fold them down, what a nightmare!!!

Treacletart, glad that the consultant reassured you this morning, that bit in your post about wrestling with another mother from the pool made me laugh

As for my bump, well it's a strange shape I think! sort of flat over my bellybutton! But huge none the less I daren't measure it that's for sure !!

MrsBadger · 19/04/2007 09:03

ooh, treacletart, someone was posting for help with bruising at clexane injection sites and I thought you might have some tips to share... thread's here . Glad to hear it's going well though - I ended up with no spikes till after the birth (hurrah!).

Meanwhile bump is so unnoticeable (despite baby measuring spot on for dates at 20wk scan) that the cleaner at work wouldn't believe I was pregnant at all, let alone 5 months gone, till I showed her the scan pic...

SweetyDarling · 19/04/2007 10:32

Maddison, My bump is the same! Looks like it;s been pressed flat over the belly button! DH calls it the flat top.
I had my scan yesterday and all is well with DS, however I have restricted blood flow through my uterine arteries which means I have an increased risk of pre-eclampsia joy!).
It's exactly what my Mum had with me, so looks like it runs in the family!
Anyway, hopefully it will just rectify itself, and at least I will get lots of extra atention. Fingers crossed!!

GillL · 19/04/2007 12:08

Hi everyone. Hope you're all well.

Sorry to hear about your pre-ecalmpsia risk SweetyDarling. At least they know now so that they can keep an eye on you. Glad everything is ok with baby though.

I'm off to see the midwife in half an hour. I'm going to speak to her about having a home birth. Wish me luck! I'll let you know how I get on.

Hersetta · 19/04/2007 12:11

Hi all,

back at work after having scan and good news - all is well. No problems detected and baby is right size for my due date - smack bang in the middle of all the percentiles and we found out we're having a

GIRL !!!!!

My Mum is overjoyed, She cried more than when i told her I was pregnant !

The sonographer was really lovely and was excited as she got to use the brand new machine, so at the end of the scan she whispered "don't tell anyone I'm doing this" and turned the machine into 4D mode so we could see the baby's face properly. Got a great head on look at her face and she was smiling! She unfortunately couldn't give me the photo though as she wasn't supposed to be using the 4D mode. I have put one of the regular scan photos up on my profile page which includes a nice profile. Throughout the scan the baby was yawning all the time and was really active. It was great seeing her face - make in even more real.

Good luck to everyone tomorrow.
