Ladies,

Welcome to thread 2 for babies due in May 2018.

Looking forward to early scans, seeing the first flutters and progressing further into the first trimester.

I think tonic water is ok, never heard of it not being. I drank loads of it last time as it helped relieve my leg cramps in the 3rd trimester.

Yep, tonic water is fine. I double checked it in the Ovia app. There is a very useful food safety check up there, especially useful when out for meals I found.

I hope everyone is getting on ok? I'm 9 weeks now (by my calcs) and it's only 2 weeks and 1 day till my scan as the NHS doesn't account for long cycles when working out when you are 12 weeks! Very nervous about it already.

Noredwine · 09/10/2017 08:49

MrsRon - I used to drink tonic water quite a bit (with vodka and lime) when out of an evening before pregnant. Then my personal trainer suggested I switch to soda water as tonic has quite a lot of calories in it and even the slimline is not great as has sweeteners. So I switched to soda water before pregnant and now drink it quite a bit with lime of an evening by without the vodka!! Might be worth trying as an alternative?

I have my Harmony scan tonight - I'm 10 weeks 3 days and very very nervous as have been convinced in last few weeks that pip squeak is not going to be there anymore (saw heartbeat at 7.5 weeks) because my symptoms really dropped of. Have felt a bit nauseous and had achy boobs on and off though over last week so keeping fingers crossed that all ok and I have just been lucky with my mild symptoms....

HerSymphonyAndSong · 09/10/2017 09:18

My booking appt has come through for next monday morning when I will be 9+6. A bit annoying as I am going to my parents' this weekend and had hoped to stay until Monday as dad is away until Sunday night do I might not be able to tell him myself. But I will tell Mum when I see her on Saturday and I am excited about that

LadyPug · 09/10/2017 09:37

My booking appt is tomorrow and I'm freaking out! I'm very phobic of blood tests and just have to get a grip but I'm already sick with fear about it :-(

MotherOfBoy · 09/10/2017 09:40

lady I used to be terrible before I had DS, but then had so many during the pregnancy (plus iron transfusion and two blood transfusions) it cured me!

I have my booking on Wednesday... 8+4 today. Going v slowly. Feeling v nauseous today have been shovelling fruit at work all morning trying not to think about it!

Happy Monday all :)

MegsMog · 09/10/2017 10:26

Ladypug sorry you're feeling so anxious about having bloods. Can you have a look on YouTube for hypnosis tracks re: fear of needles / blood to listen to tonight? Try and just do some deep breathing whilst it's happening. Maybe tell the midwife straight away that you feel worried so she can do it first and get it out of the way?

Gyoza · 09/10/2017 10:45

Booking appointment on Wednesday and just booked a flu jab for Friday as I totally forgot about it, ooops. Still hardly any symptoms except tiredness and managed a run this morning, fingers crossed everything is ok in there! For ladies suffering from sickness my friend recommended the seven seas vitamins that have ginger in them.

HerSymphonyAndSong · 09/10/2017 10:56

I haven't organised a flu jab as my surgery said they would send me an invitation, but I will check if they haven't contacted me in a few weeks

My mum is a GP and one of the things I'm looking forward to after telling her is being able to ask all my niggly questions that it doesn't seem worth bothering others with!

LadyPug · 09/10/2017 11:04

Thanks guys, I did actually get better when having DD as like everyone else, had so much taken and so many needles that by the end I could have it done without fainting (fainted at blood taken all my life) but it's been a few years since then and I'm nervous all over again. Luckily same midwife so she knows I'm a nutter and I'll have blood done first so I can recover as I always faint! :-( just have to get it over with I suppose!

MotherOfBoy · 09/10/2017 11:37

hersymphony my Mum is a recently retired consultant obstetrician and gynaecologist - was great when I had DS and after as got to ask her all th night gory questions 😁 she was still working when I had DS too so I got the VIP treatment from all her colleagues as she knew all the midwives doctors and anaethsthetists! No special treatment this time as she is retired but great I can still bug her with questions 😂

cautiousoptimist1 · 09/10/2017 14:34

Good luck with your scan today nored.

Ladypug, I hope you have a supportive midwife who'll get you through it.

I'm another lucky one as my sister is a midwife so I can ask her my random questions without having to wait for my next appointment. She was fab last time as I was getting a bit light headed and needing to sit down and she told me that I needed more protein rather than more sugar. I then of course took this as a chance to eat sausage sandwiches on a Sunday morning and it really did the trick!

MotherOfBoy, maybe you should take your Mum as your birthing partner to get the same treatment now she's retired! Grin

cautious she was there last time as my second birthing partner! Would love her there this time but think she will probably end up looking after DS Sad

SquashyMummy · 09/10/2017 15:05

Ugh I wish the relief from nausea lasted a bit longer after snacking. I've already stuffed my face with crisps twice today and I feel nauseous all over again. I'm going to put on so much weight Envy

Dorotha · 09/10/2017 16:44

Hi all!

I haven't caught up yet - busy weekend dealing with a tantruming toddler and then entertaining my dad (we spent most of today catching up on DIY together - dads are awesome, right?)

I had my booking in today. Apparently they are really understaffed so I didn't even have my midwife who was in home delivery tonight. So it was another midwife who kept saying they don't have enough midwives to go around..

Also, very strange and I didn't have this last time - 'let's put your target weight gain at 12kg'. What's that about? I gained 18kg last time and no one blinked an eye about. Besides, it was all gone within a few months of breastfeeding my insatiable baby.

Also, she said because I lost lots of blood last time I might not qualify for the birth centre. I'm totally prepared to fight for it though because my blood loss was from tearing so it doesn't have to happen again, right?

So overall very mixed feelings. Oh and she said i must wear compression socks for my flight in two weeks. Is that also a thing??

MotherOfBoy · 09/10/2017 17:25

Oh that’s interesting dorotha I Roo was hoping for birthing unit but also lost loads of blood last time due to tearing and had to have blood transfusion. I’m hoping they will let me go to birth centre?! Weird re target weight gain, never heard that before. I think I put on about 10kg last time, but I lost loads of weight in first trimester due to loss of appetite. Been stuffing my face this time round so am sure my weight gain will be well over 10kg!

SquashyMummy · 09/10/2017 19:10

I also lost a lot of blood last time Dorotha and mother. I wonder if we will all be told we can't go in MLU. I couldn't use MLU last time either as they were understaffed but I got the only room with a pool in the main labour ward. The pool helped so much, I really don't want to without it this time!

Noredwine · 09/10/2017 19:15

Thanks cautious for the good luck wishes - they worked as just had scan and pip squeak was fine! Saw heart beating away and arms and legs and profile and he/she even did a load of massive wriggles whilst I was being scanned! Placenta is on top so scan pictures not very clear but here you go! 10 weeks 4 days according to measurements - I am so relieved and so happy!

Picture is upside down!!

MrsRonBurgundy · 09/10/2017 19:25

Thank you so much to everybody that let me know tonic water is ok to drink! I'm so relieved, something I can stomach.

Gyoza I've been trying the seven seas with ginger but no relief so far! Hopefully they just take a few days to kick in.

MrsRonBurgundy · 09/10/2017 19:25

NoRedWine Congratulations on your lovely scan news!

Elvi1 · 09/10/2017 19:47

Ar lovely noredwine - will you get to see baby again in a couple of weeks with NHS scan?

Noredwine · 09/10/2017 19:52

Thanks Mrs and Elvi!
Yes I have NHS scan at 12 weeks so next sat by which time apparently pip squeak will be much bigger and clearer on the scan all being well. Should get results of Harmony tests next week too. Once that is out the way i feel I can start to relax and enjoy this first pregnancy! Have been so worried to date. Smile

cautiousoptimist1 · 09/10/2017 20:03

Lovely scan nored.

Dorotha, my sister was amazed that I was weighed at every appointment last time but I didn't have a target weight gain, that sounds like just another thing to stress over! I had quite high blood loss too (also from tearing) and they told me before I even left the delivery room that I'd be consultant led next time so I think that rules out the lovely MLW unit nearby and a 40 minute trek to the big university hospital for the birth.
