Long time no post for me. Been super busy at work and home, but finally having a lazy Sunday morning to 'play' on the Internet.

Pram was delivered yesterday, despite being told it would be dispatched November when we ordered it. Went for the mamas and papas armadillo flip xt2. Think we've decided on the tutti bambini cozee crib, but I just need to do a bit more research regarding sheets as the branded ones are expensive and seem to be constantly out of stock so I want to see what other sheets will fit it. Has anyone else got one of these yet and can help?

What other 'essentials' do people recommend getting before baby is here? I'm not planning on getting anything for feeding, as I really want to try to breast feed. If it all works out I probably won't be expressing until at least 6 weeks so will buy pumps, bottles etc after baby is born. If it doesn't work out, hubby/grandparents will dash out and pick up bottles, steriliser and formula. I don't want to buy those before and then never use them.

We've already got pram with carry cot, car seat & isofix base, a bouncy chair thing, play mat, x2 sleeping bags (2.5tog). Got a load of baby grows etc from my sister (nephew was born in August). 5 carry packs of size 1 nappies (from Emma's diary and bounty packs, plus using money off vouchers when ASDA had pampers 22pk for £1.50).

On my to buy list this month is a room/bath thermometer and baby monitor (probably from Amazon to get the free baby box) and a changing/bath table/unit. Plan on just picking up other little 'essentials' like Muslins, bibs, blankets etc as I see them in sales (hopefully. Ordered a pack of Aden and anais Muslins this morning on kidly sale. £20 down to £14 because I've heard they're really lovely. The rest will probably be cheap ones!).

Ideally I want to be all done by Xmas, I really don't want to be panic buying when I'm huge, probably stressed and of course there's always the risk of things happening early!

Maternity leave in 11 weeks and counting! Finish work on 23rd December, 2 weeks holiday followed by 2 weeks maternity leave before due 22nd Jan. It's flying by!

WLMcI · 08/10/2017 10:03

@shaan I know, how is such a simple thing as trapped wind so very very painful?! All part of the cross we bear lol Grin

@MissyJones I am the same as I am customer-facing all day. I just update it on my breaks and if I run to the loo I stop by the staff room to put in a tap or 2. I figure it'll all work out in the averages, and my days off will be much more accurate than that. Sometimes I'm so busy (and on my feet) that I don't even notice the movements and then I have to spend a while really concentrating!

ChocoMunchi · 08/10/2017 10:03

@ElleMcElle I have the BabyBuddy app easy way to keep track of weeks+days gives little daily pregnancy updates as well.

WLMcI · 08/10/2017 10:17

@icantthink I have a list gleaned from MN threads mostly, and it includes a lot of what you said, and also the following:

-baby bath (my friend recommends 1 of the bigger ones that has the ramp thing on one side for an infant, and the sit-up support on the other for older baby. Saw one in Mamas and Papas for £35 but she got hers for like £20 online)
-snot sucker! I have actually spent 15 minutes of my life reading a "best nasal aspirator" article and then feeling mildly ill LOL :D
-Starsnug fleece wrap or similar for trips in the car (have heard it is easier than a pramsuit in a car seat)
-washable bamboo breast pads have been recommended if you're breastfeeding, as the disposables are expensive long-term.
-we needed not just a changing table but storage for baby's clothes etc, as our nursery is too small for a wardrobe, so we got the IKEA Sundvik dresser/changing table combination. If you're changing in the bathroom though, one with lots of wee bath caddies might work better for you.
-regarding bedside crib sheets, we have been gifted a Snuzpod and while their branded ones are expensive, the Mothercare crib sized ones are half the price and seem to fit the mattress fine. There should be mattress dimensions on the Cozee website and sheets should have dimensions too (remember there's a bit of leeway as they are fully elasticated). Mothercare was having a buy 2-get 1 free sale on their "essential bedding" when I ordered a week ago so I got a free cellular blanket out of it with 2 packs of sheets :)

WLMcI · 08/10/2017 10:22

Sorry to bombard the page, but a while ago someone recommended a book--I think the author was Michael Cohen? Was it called "The New Basics"? Thanks :)

ForumUsername · 08/10/2017 10:31

@WLMcI yes that’s the one I read
Fairly no nonsense practical advice

I’d imagine it might not suit people who are very attachment based in their parenting style though.

Waitingonasmile · 08/10/2017 10:43

Everyone sounds super organised! We still haven't ordered anything but you've all inspired me to write a list.

13 days off work starting Thu and then only 7 weeks left until maternity leave after that. Smile Really looking forward to stopping now. Not coping well with teenagers all day!

WLMcI · 08/10/2017 10:50

Thanks @Forum! I think it would suit me to a T as I have read some excerpts online and they seem very straightforward.

MegRam · 08/10/2017 10:56

@Icantthinkofastupidname We've bought the Tutti Bambini and I got these:

www.mothercare.com/fitted-sheets/mothercare-jersey-fitted-bedside-crib-sheets---2-pack/993710.html#q=Fitted+bedside+crib&start=3

I have yet to try them on the mattress but the dimensions match and the description says suitable for the Tutti. Also in the 3 for 2 sale!

We bought the Tutti mattress protector though

x

Hotpinkangel19 · 08/10/2017 11:03

At what point in pregnancy is everyone getting their prams? I’m 27 weeks but reluctant to buy yet as the one we want is delivered in 3-5 days!

Usernamegone · 08/10/2017 11:12

I've bought my travel system but it's at my MiLs as it rmrakes up too much room!

Hotpinkangel19 · 08/10/2017 11:40

We have no where to store it apart from home 🙁 I’m not sure, it’s meant to be unlucky isn’t it!

Mummyme87 · 08/10/2017 11:53

Got mine already from DS1 but needs to go off for a service and clean

ForumUsername · 08/10/2017 11:57

@Hotpinkangel19 We bought the travel system yesterday but there is a long lead time so it won’t be delivered till early Dec (I think it might be later)

I want to have most things got by Christmas so I can enjoy maternity leave in January and not have to worry about getting too much more (although may leave off buying some of the clothes till new year sale)

hodgeheg92 · 08/10/2017 12:18

@MegRam How did you find the delivery service and quality of the Tutti you were delivered? I was really keen on this crib but the reviews I could find on here said MC delivery and customer service had been awful. They also said that the poppers had been changed for Velcro and it made me wonder what other cuts the company had taken since first distributing the sample cribs to MC stores.

I want to get a next2me but DH is still smitten with the (admittedly much nicer) look of the Tutti.

shaaan1329 · 08/10/2017 12:25

I've got the silver cross wayfarer, only heard good things about it and my sister in law raves about it.. it's currently living at my Nana's house thanks to her being very superstitious about it being unlucky to keep it at home!

Is anyone considering 4D scans? I've always thought they looked strange (I don't mean to cause offence by that!) but now it's my own baby I'm quite intrigued to see what he looks like! There's an offer on Groupon at the minute at a place in Leicester, 4D scan for £49 which I thought was quite reasonable...

Gemxo · 08/10/2017 13:05

I'm booked in for a 4D scan @shaaan1329 ! My package was £49 also which is a bargain as it's usually £99!

I'll be 30 weeks when I have it, booked for the 16th November, can't wait!!

Mummyme87 · 08/10/2017 13:41

I hate 3D and 4D scans. Give me the heeby jeebies.
I am planning on doing tutti bambini cozee but will get it from the babyshow hopefully from tutti bambini themselves

MegRam · 08/10/2017 13:47

No problems at all with MC @hodgeheg92 - I also read those reviews and ordered in good time because of them. Placed the order online last Thursday and had it delivered this Tuesday. They seem to have good stock at the moment so maybe the initially issues have resolved?

Not unpacked yet but it's on the agenda for this week to get it out and take a look so I'll let you know how it when it's up x

Fredthefrog · 08/10/2017 16:52

You're all making me feel a bit behind. We have nothing for the baby but are going to the baby show so maybe we will start getting kit then. Makes it all more real!

Owl1011 · 08/10/2017 17:03

I also feel very behind, everyone seems very organised! We've only got 4 baby grows, 4 bibs and a toy sheep so far! On the bright side the nursery is all freshly painted with brand new carpet (albeit completely empty 🙈) we've got a little bit more decorating to do elsewhere in the house first and then November will start to buy/order the bigger stuff. Very handy seeing everyone's lists and recommendations though!

Been looking at the Chico next to me dream, anyone have any experience of it?

ForumUsername · 08/10/2017 17:20

We booked a 3d/4d Scan for this Tuesday

I’m not a massive fan TBH but I like that they give you a video
DM and MIL both are amazed at the scan pictures we’ve gotten already
MIL keeps dropping hints that she’d love to go to a scan which I wouldn’t be keen on so this seems like a nice alternative

Fairly curious now to see if we can make out if the baby looks like either of us

Maybebaby2 · 08/10/2017 17:22

I'm not feeling very organised either.
We have travel system, high chair and crib that we got in a bundle early on but that's it. Hopefully start getting things to wards end of this month.

Not finding dh very helpful in choosing things, he's a bit shoulder shrugging and "get anything" about it all. I'm struggling to decide between even the simplest of things so could do with him taking a bit more interest!

@Owl1011 we have the chicco next to me dream, it came with the bundle. Not actually used it yet but we set it up to have a look and I was happy with it. I liked all the different functions it has, especially that it can work as a rocker. Also the drop down side is opetated with one clip so is really easy to do with one hand.

millsbynight · 08/10/2017 17:48

You’re all so organised!! I have nothing except a car seat and a couple of items of clothing. I’ll get more serious around the 32ish week mark.

The only thing I've bought for Bub is a Star Wrap. We have so much left from DS including loads of stuff that never got worn.

Planning on buying an Uppababy Vista in December as we can't convert the Quinny Buzz we have to work for 2 Sad There should be a Mothercare event then. Will get a carseat base then too.
