Thanks everyone, turns out somehow I've managed to skip the water infection and go straight to a nasty kidney infection with no symptoms up until last night! She says I may also have a bug but could easily be the toxins in my body making me so sick! Tin of Chicken big soup, blanket on the sofa and catch up tv for me I think!

@MissyJones80s that is a very strange thing to say. Like you said she probably didn't think until after it was said that it's a thought to perhaps google yourself instead of asking you directly!

ForumUsername · 03/10/2017 16:50

@WLMcI my family would be the same re childbirth
My mum had 6 babies and between my sisters they had 8
All say it’s painful but bearable and a normal process so no fear mongering
Only 1 had an epidural with 1 of hers and she felt it made it harder (but did help with pain)
I’m not massively worried about the birth when I just listen to them but your right all the other stories and noise are not good and need to be ignored

Breast feeding is still not the norm here in Ireland and it seems in the UK too
They are doing their best to promote it but generations of stigma and taboo are hard to get through

My MIL breast fed DH but it was very odd to do it then. Her MIL would give out to her saying it was dirty! She even brought formula and bottles round to the house and said the baby wasn’t getting enough food.

My mum and sisters have the idea that breast feeding can sometimes not be enough for ‘hungry’ babies and it’s better to feed formula. They are already saying that our baby will probably be a big baby and need formula to satisfy its hunger.

I’m going to see how it goes and go from there. I’m not putting any pressure on ourselves one way or the other.

Anybody else still not showing much? :( you all seem to have such lovely bumps and I just look chubby - im still in my normal size 12 jeans from pre-pregnancy! (25 weeks).

I had my first full on hormonal break down today. The loft hatch was installed in our new bungalow today and it looks awful. I just stood there crying. I had to remind myself that it's ONLY A LOFT HATCH but I'm still really sad (partner says he will fix it!).

MissyJones80s · 03/10/2017 17:34

Hi Disinterested I wasn’t really showing much until all of a sudden last week it popped out and then people at work were asking if I was pregnant and then being shocked I was nearly 6 months haha. I think we all carry differently!

MissyJones80s · 03/10/2017 17:38

shaaan1329 sorry you aren’t unwell how awful having a kidney infection you must feel really gritty! Chicken soup sounds nice though. Hope you are feeling better soon.

To my earlier comment yes I do feel it was a really odd thing to say. I mean I wouldn’t be stupid to deny that couldn’t happen because it does of course but as a bit of a hypochondriac and worrier anyway prob not the best thing to discuss in an informal meeting at work!

millsbynight · 03/10/2017 18:00

@Disinterested wow mini bump Smile I was out of my normal jeans at about Week 8!

I had a small bump and people keep telling me how small I am 😡 but I'm really starting to round out now. Will take a pic tonight

In terms of complications/birth stories I sometimes tell mine and it's never ever been an attempt to scare anyone. Things can go wrong but that's why we have wonderful medical professionals who know exactly what to do.

You are very neat @Disinterested . Is this your first? I bet baby will pop out soon. Love your cat watching you. if it's any consolation I'm the opposite and a colleague asked if it was November I was due. Blush

millsbynight · 03/10/2017 18:08

27+3! Getting big 🤰🏼

Thanks ladies. Hoping I pop soon! @millsbynight what a lovely bump!

@waitingonasmile he's forever watching me but is currently in my bad books because he weed on my lovely hand knitted baby blanket my sister spent ages making for me! It's really odd though because he's never weed in the house before :(. When he sits on my tummy and purrs it makes the babe kick - so he knows he's got me wrapped around his finger haha. Xx

Ruthcarr1990 · 03/10/2017 19:08

Any one heard of the maternity university cards? My mum works in a doctors and got a card off one of the midwives there. You put your details in answer the questions and claim your box of free stuff also the box is fitted with a mattress for the baby to sleep In. I’ve done it all just need to organise to go and pick up my box.

Worth asking your midwife if your local hospital is doing it xxx

emble23 · 03/10/2017 19:09

Hi All,

Does anyone have any advice on car seats? We were going to get the silver cross simplicity to match our pram but people have been saying the maxi cosi is easier and lighter to carry?

Thanks in advance

Waitingonasmile · 03/10/2017 19:17

@Ruthcarr1990 The box was introduced in the summer I think and every pregnant woman can get one. They look really good! I lost the form midwife gave me so haven't done it yet.

@emble23 I had the Maxi Cosi Cabriofix and it was fine! It is quite heavy from what I can remember.

@millsbynight you are so nice and neat still!

WLMcI · 03/10/2017 19:45

@emble Oohhhh I found car seats and prams to be a head melt! I had one that the manual said would fit in my car (Migo Sattelite into a Ford Kuga), but when it arrived it didn't even come close so I had to exchange! I have now shelled out for a MaxiCosi Pebble Plus (the i-size one that goes on the 2way Fix base, then you get the Pearl after about a year which is a rearward facing toddler seat with the same base). The first time I picked it up the other day (the seat without the base that is), I remarked on how light it was! It also seems very well made and comes in about a million colours Grin and it is compatible with a lot of pushchairs (so it might actually fit on your pram base, if it's a travel system, with the MaxiCosi adaptor. You can check that on the website I think). I can't compare it to the Silver Cross, but I'm sure if you were to call into a place that sells them both you could try them out. They all have different ways of coming into and out of the car, etc. so you want to make sure you find it easy enough to use.

hodgeheg92 · 03/10/2017 20:10

We've gone for maxi cosi pebble plus, same as WLMcl although we were lucky to get one second hand from a colleague. We'll get the base that you can then put the Pearl onto.

The silver cross is cheaper initially but it's a bit of a false economy because when the baby grows out of it (say around 6 months), you'd have to buy a new seat and (I think) a new base for your new car seat. Forgive me if I'm wrong but that's the logic we went with when deciding on the maxi cosi (before I knew my colleague was selling one - and I trust her when she says she hasn't had a car accident).

Completely agree with you on the travel system headache though! I've cried twice in mothercare after being overwhelmed with choice. I've found madeformums.com really useful for reviews.

millsbynight · 03/10/2017 20:27

We got the MaxiCosi pebble plus too 🙋🏼 It's been sitting in the living room since we bought it after my 20 week scan.

OP posts:
Isabeau1980 · 03/10/2017 20:29

We still have DS's Pebble Plus, he's RF in the 2 Way Pearl now at almost 2 years, 2 months so we just have to buy another base.

We were in a car crash on Easter Sunday, DS was 1 year, 8 months at the time. He was RF in his 2 Way Pearl and he didn't even notice anything had happened.

We got onto Maxi Cosi after the accident and they replaced both the seat and base free of charge too.

Couldn't recommend them more.

Rosehyd2 · 03/10/2017 20:35

We bought the Silver Cross pioneer pram and travel system. We absolutely loved it but didn't feel the need to rush to buy it, then an amazing deal was announced so we did on Saturday!

Mothercare have a deal on currently where you get the car seat for free and a seat liner and a changing bag with it!

Even the isofix Base is on sale down to £99 so we bought that too.

ForumUsername · 04/10/2017 10:46

We’ve been looking at the Kiddy Evolution Pro 2 car seat
I really like that the baby can be put laying flat as I hope to spend lots of time with family who are 2.5hours away. From what I’ve read babies can’t be upright in car seats for more than an hour?!

It’s compatible with almost all prams including the one we’ve been looking at.

It is a bit more expensive but it comes with the base and is suitable until 15months

It is also bulkier and heavier than others but we have to change car anyway so will be looking at cars to suit (seems odd though)

There is a baby fair here in Dublin this weekend we are going to
All the big shops and manufacturers are exhibiting so we’re going to go to look and play with everything on our short list and hopefully get some deals.

ForumUsername · 04/10/2017 10:47

Sorry I meant Kiddy Evoluna I-Size

emble23 · 04/10/2017 13:31

Thanks all :) Think we will go and compare them both whilst asking lots of questions and then decide. Seems to be some pro's to each of them.

Owl1011 · 04/10/2017 20:41

The pebble plus is on our list, good to know it's got a good reputation! We're not buying any of the big stuff until November as still in the middle of redecorating and have no space to put anything yet!

24+3 here, nice to finally see a bump coming properly and after a quiet week last week been getting kicked non stop since last Thursday!

January Babies #5 - Are we 'glowing' yet?!
Maybebaby2 · 04/10/2017 22:17

Been feeling a repetitive 'kick' in the same exact spot tonight. Right down low in my pelvis, much lower than I normally feel kicks and not as strong either. Been going on for a while now so I googled an it sounds like it could be hiccups. Anyone else felt this too?

Maybebaby2 · 04/10/2017 22:28

owl what a lovely neat bump you have! I feel gigantic and a bit worried that I've got another 3 months of growing to go!

January Babies #5 - Are we 'glowing' yet?!
MegRam · 05/10/2017 07:25

@Owl1011 I feel the same - two people yesterday told me I'm 'looking big' which doesn't help Angry

I think all bumps are beautiful
