Glad to hear baby has turned CD...no news from Octo yet...seems like it might all be happening for her. If you email me your mobile number I can text you with any news.

CaptainDippy · 26/03/2007 12:24

Thank you hon - Will email you now and then actually go and make my hungry children some lunch ....

AngeG · 26/03/2007 12:25

Great news that baby is now heads down CD I have your number will text you if anything happens...although I'm going out at 2pm.

Tili · 26/03/2007 12:25

Glad baby has turned for you CD

Bugmum · 26/03/2007 12:28

Nuttygirl - yes, I am sure that he thinks the baby is sad (and maybe even that he has done something to it??); I will try to explain that it just wants food/clean nappy/sleep but bless him, DS isn't the most verbal 2-year-old in the world, and might not understand. In one of the books I bought him to prepare for the baby, the daddy says babies cry to tell us something, and DS does pretend crying with joyful abandon then, but when faced with the real thing, he is just devastated

ooggs - Ooh, I'd forgotten about those marshmallow things; I want one (lots) NOW

Bugmum · 26/03/2007 12:29

CD - hooray! Good news for both you and Tili re positions, then. Um...you know what I mean

flumppootle · 26/03/2007 12:33

Bugmum, your ds sounds so cute! How old is he?
I have three los and the arrival of a new one is always a challenging time. There are a few things that I have always done to try and make it as smooth as possible. My aim is to stregthen the family unit and not make it 'mummies baby', its everyones baby and everyone in the household has to help.

A few weeks before the baby is due I get all of the new things out (pram, seat, clothes and car seat etc) and let the other children play with them and get used to them being in the house. I find that this reduces jealousy and not everything changes when the baby comes home.
Then when the baby is here everyone has their own 'job' to help. This is usually getting bibs, muslins, toys or rocking the chair for the older child. This is something that we maintain as they get older aswell. I find that my children LOVE this and all hell brakes loose when someone else does 'their' job. It helps them to feel included and important to the baby.

Apologies if you think I'm talking rubbish

CD great news about being head down

oooggs · 26/03/2007 12:40

Chucking one over now bugmum

All sounds good to me flumpootle - I am worried ds 3.3 will get pushed aside if feeding twins takes too long

Bugmum · 26/03/2007 12:42

Flump - you must be a very unconfident person, if you can give great advice like that and think you'll be accused of talking rubbish!!! Thanks so much, I love the ideas. I shall unpack the new double buggy tomorrow (DP not home until 10.30 tonight, and I'm useless at that stuff on my own) and let DS have a sit in it etc, and put his TinkyWinky in the baby bit.

He had just turned 2, by the way, and is I think rather young for his age in some ways, possibly because he has never been in day care (me and his dad both work p/t, so I do about 2/3 of the childcare and DP a 1/3, which is great in some ways but a disadvantage in others).

Bugmum · 26/03/2007 12:43

oooggs - Ta! Yum, slurp, munch...

Birdiebump · 26/03/2007 12:47

Yay for another turner to head-down, CD! That's 3 of them have to stay down now!

Good tips Flump. I have a feeling it is my DH (his second child, my third) who will be a bit "precious" about his new little girl which may well put DS2's (age nearly 4) nose out of joint. They're actually quite similar!

flumppootle · 26/03/2007 12:49

Thankyou Bugmum, I am quite a shy person in RL and dont normally share my opinions!
I completely forgot the puchline of saying that giving a younger child a positive job to do when a baby cries distracts them from the cries and makes them feel proud of helping. There was only 19 months between my dds and this approach worked well the older one

Bugmum · 26/03/2007 12:52

Flump - oh I see, so when the crying stops, they've helped it to stop? Another great idea, thank you

AngeG · 26/03/2007 12:52

Flumppootle - Sounds like great advice to me

We have had the pushchair in the dining room for at least a week now and Jake (3.5) loves playing in it and with it. We've also been given some baby toys which haven't been put away that he's been playing with.

eca · 26/03/2007 13:02

LL- yep just eaten a whole easter egg!

CD - glad baby's turned and you're feeling so positive! Hope the look round the birthing centre goes well tonight.

Bugmum - no advice from me i'm afraid as I'm on no.1, but what flump says sounds vv clever!

Nutty - i'm with everyone else re:PIL. For me dh is under orders to negociate the visitors and make sure what I want happens!! Anyway, you can always blame the hormones, esp, re:FIL. It's a real 'woman's time' and I think the perfect excuse for you to use! I've not been letting FIL pat my bump - much to his dismay. Just said I don't like men other than dh patting it! (and actually, no other men have even tried except FIL!) Anyway, hope you manage to fend them off.

EllieK · 26/03/2007 13:11

hi all

bored now, loads to do but just can't be bothered!

eca · 26/03/2007 13:15

know what you mean ellie - I've got a massive list of things to be getting on with, but just can't seem to get motivated! Esp. doing some bulk cooking, usually my freezer's full and I love bulk cooking, but the one time i need to I just have no interest!! ahhh!!!

flumppootle · 26/03/2007 13:18

Meant to be doing the housework here but dreaming about cadburys cream eegs instead

flumppootle · 26/03/2007 13:18

I meant eggs!!!!!!!!!!!!!

EllieK · 26/03/2007 13:20

i have loads of housework to do, but having got back from town i am still sat crunching ice cubes wearing my coat

mammyjo · 26/03/2007 13:28

Hi everyone. Hope Octo is doing ok.

Flump, thanks for the good advice. I am having concerns about my ds coping with new baby. He really wants it but I wonder if the novelty will wear off pretty quickly. Like the idea of him helping to stop baby crying etc, will def be giving that a try.

Tili + CD, really glad your bubs have turned. Sending stay turned vibes to you both!!!

Nutty, not fair of your PIL to expect to descend on you when you could have given birth only the day before. I have told dh he has to fend off his family. To be honest I dont even want his sister coming in to see us in the hospital. She can barely muster herself to even say hello to me most of the time but will expect to come in and coo over my baby and play happy families. I have enough stress with the strep issue and the fact that the baby may end up with antibiotics post delivery, and the thought of making small talk just to be polite to her is winding me up! Bloody families

liath · 26/03/2007 13:35

Runny, IKWYM re ILs thinking it's fine to plonk themsleves on you when you've just had a new baby. I've really put my foot down this time. Hope you're sister's recovering well, too.

Lots of labour vibes to Octo.

WCL, loved your birth story, sounds like it was pretty quick at the end.

Dd has just turned 2 so I'm in the worried about how she'll react camp. It was very nice of my sister to have her baby so she could get to see plenty of him, which I think has helped but we are so close and I'm worried about the effect a baby's going to have on that.

However, major success after braving Ikea on saturday and finally getting the right mattress we have had two successful nights in the Big Girl's Bed! I am so chuffed that she's managed so well - the cot is now out of her room and hopefully by the time baby's ready to go into it she'll have forgotten it was hers!

Time to raid the fridge for chocolate I think!

muminabigtumi · 26/03/2007 13:51

Yikes...sat down with feet upat 11am....turned on This Morning (never get to watch anything like that if James is about) and....I've just woken up!

I think I may resort to sleeping in our reclining arm chair as it supports my back and is very comfy - that is the best couple of hours kip I've had in ages...but now I feel all wierd and spacd out and .....guilty!
GRRRRR when will I learn to RELAX!!

Flumpootle - thanks for your advice - you have some excellent tips and I will be sure to use them with James.

Nutty - GRR at DH discussing BF with MIL. Totally sympathise...my MIL has instructed that "we must take James to the doctor" as he keeps getting a cold. I flipped and told him that it was none of her bloody business and she should keep her opinions to herself... I think he got the message I wasn't happy!

Oooh something must definatley be going on with Octo - there is no way she would be away this long otherwise....Go ERNIE Go ERNIE!!! waves hands around in Ricki Lake Stylee

Birdiebump - HOW GOOD ARE SMARTIES COOKIES!!! .

CD - Yey on turning baby!!! fab news and great you are set for the birth you want.

Right - all this talk of chocolate and food.....off to raid cupboards fancy some crackers and cheese and pea and ham soup?!

nuttygirl · 26/03/2007 14:02

MIABT - funny you say you slept well in chair...my aunty slept in a chair for the last month of her pregnancy cos it was the only place she was comfy (40 years ago mind you!!!)

There's still no news from Octo, think it must definitely be happening for her...ooh exciting!!! V tho...I was meant to be before her!!! lol.

It's all getting v real now, attached the mobile to the cot yesterday. Gonna put sheets on moses basket soon. I WANT MY BABY NOW!!!! I have no patience, thank god I found out it's a girl or I'd be going even more crazy!!!

bumble75 · 26/03/2007 14:02

Just a quick afternoon post before getting back to work...

Glad to hear babies are pointing in the right direction, fingers crossed they stay that way.

Hmmmmmm, chocolate, just got some mini egg type things from M&S on lunch break, have devoured quite a few already, quite miffed at having to share them in the office!

It's my parents I'm worried about - they are flying over from Aus to meet their new grandchild, they're staying with us until a couple of days before my due date which I'm now beginning to think wasn't a great idea... really hope I go past my due date so they're in their own place. Have told them want the first couple of weeks for just me, dh & baby, hope they haven't forgotten in their excitement... Is that awful since they're flying from other side of world to be here?
