I think this is how you make one?

I think that's why they use gas and air, less for pain relief and more for focusing on your breathing.

Spindelina · 11/07/2017 02:48

Congratulations, flapper!

When you are pushing a small human out of your nether regions, it's not exactly surprising that a bit of poo gets pushed out too! Certainly did with DD.

Notyetthere · 11/07/2017 04:57

I didn't have any poo either as the diarrhoea 12hrs beforehand had seen to it but a baby's head crowning does feel like a massive poo. No other way of describing it.

In the subject of poo, Lil Notyet did some impressive explosive ones last night and I can only attribute giving him colief in his expressed milk yesterday evening. He normally has infacol which doesn't seem to work as the colic carries on and peeks with a tummy ache between 10-11.30pm so I thought I'd try colief. That stuff works fast! Went right through him. 3 explosive nappies later with one leading to a full bath as it came out in all directions, I won't be using it again. Unless the colic gets worse then I might half the dose. Just changed another nappy and it's very watery with lots of mucus in it. Poor thing also had dry lips so l assume lost all the fluid from last night's feeds. However, one positive thing out of it all, she did not cry or writhe about in discomfort at the usual time, she just happily pooed away and only cried during nappy changes- probably also mourning the indecency I had inflicted on her by secretly slipping laxatives in her teaGrin.

Flappergirl86 · 11/07/2017 09:39

Thanks for all your congrats ladies! I'm so happy with her. butterfly I was really anxious about the poo thing and had decided it couldn't possibly happen because I'd had diorreah (sp?) before but I didn't care when it happened and the midwives certainly didn't. Every surface I was on had a giant disposable pad on it so they just fold it all up straight away like it never happened and there's also likely to be quite a lot of blood and water in the mix -it's not like there's a perfectly formed turd sitting there like the telltale heart.

I also think if labour wasn't so fast I'd probably have had time to sit on the toilet and do one there without the risk of baby flying in to the pan but again every contraction feels like the need to do a poo (especially the last one!) and it's phantom. I think if you do poo it's coincidental.

In short, shit happens. Xxx

mynameisntLinda · 11/07/2017 10:11

butterfly it's not so much loosing control of your bowl but as the baby descends it pushes on your bowel. This is why often diarrhea happens before labour as your body clears out.
in the "olden days" they used to give you an enema so that you didn't poop so older people probably will think pooing is unusual.
It only happened once to me and I was in the pool and towards the end of labour and it was just scooped out of the pool with no fuss. most of the time you wouldn't know as like other have said the mw just sorts it out.

I remember the pool looking like a massacre when ds was born but then the mw said even an egg cup of blood can look pretty dramatic when in water.

Twixes · 11/07/2017 10:18

OMG @Flappergirl86 what a load of poo 💩the nurses have seen it all before and definitely not fazed by any of that, as much embarrassing as it may feel for the poo-er!

Evelyn is such a pretty name, very feminine and classic. Congratulations Smile

Twixes · 11/07/2017 10:20

Our toddler has a bug and has projectile vomited all over me, missing his little sister by inches, all over our bed and on our new sofa. Why does this happen when you've a 6 day old baby????

He's also slapped her on the head twice! Shock

mynameisntLinda · 11/07/2017 13:14

Oh no twixes i dread the toddler being ill, at least it missed the baby. Hope you 2 dont catch the bug and the clean up operation wasnt too messy Confused

Flappergirl86 · 11/07/2017 13:14

Oh no twixes!!! Do you feel like your life has just become a mad sitcom? Hope toddler gets better soon xx

ButterflyFree · 11/07/2017 14:48

Oh that's reassuring on the poo front, thank you @Flappergirl86 @mynameisntLinda I'm sure my prudish ways will go out the window in labour anyway and dignity will be the last thing on my mind 😂

Sorry to hear your little one has a bug @Twixes - lots of get well soon wishes.

I had my first dizzy/sweaty/fainty spell in more than 6 weeks just now... it happened quite regularly when I was back in Dubai but has only happened once since coming to London. I'm guessing it's a sudden loss of blood pressure for whatever reason? Although my blood pressure is always totally fine when checked. It's a horrible feeling; all clammy and I start to see black spots and flashing stars... but I immediately lay down on my side and sipped some cold water and it subsided within a few minutes.

Algebraic · 11/07/2017 14:48

Congratulations ladies on all the new babies these past few days! The thread has been flying by hasn't it, my poor frazzled brain can't keep up with who had said what but I hope you are all doing well.

@Notyetthere my grandad had bells after a stressful time of caring for my grandma and I recall that it took a month or so before it righted itself. Rest assured his face went completely back to normal Smile

@Flappergirl86 I must admit I had a really good laugh at your story! Love the candour. Especially the "jokes on her as I'd pooed myself"

I was saying to a group of friends the other day I wouldn't be doing the hot curry thing to induce labour as I didn't fancy a burning hot poo, and a friend said 'you do know people poo in labour don't you?' Yes my dear, I haven't got to 39 weeks in a blissful state of ignorance unfortunately haha 😂 @ButterflyFree perhaps your Mum had an enema and that's why she didn't think it normal?

I got my results for GD back and everything is fine, no issues with glucose so I'm happy that my plan to give birth in the MLU need not change.

I had lots of cramping yesterday, I thought it could be it but it didn't go anywhere. Went on for a few hours though and seemed too consistent to be contractions, no peaks or troughs. Any idea what this is?

glitterglitters · 11/07/2017 14:54

Could be baby on a nerve @Algebraic or if they're in an awkward position.

I think the only dignity I had left, I managed to claw back by requesting dh closed his eyes whilst he walked past and stood by my head as they'd stitched me up. Legs akimbo in stirrups with all and sundry on show, sure the miracle of life has just happened but nobody needs to see that car crash 😂😂😂

Only second degree but enough to scar any loving partner

Algebraic · 11/07/2017 14:58

Good idea @glitterglitters ! Sometimes you just want to claw back a little modesty Grin DH and I have discussed which end he will be and both firmly agreed it is NOT the business end. Which I'm sure would really surprise those that know us as we don't hide anything, but I just don't feel like anyone needs to potentially SEE a poo exiting their loved ones body... The professionals can deal with that! 😂

ButterflyFree · 11/07/2017 15:00

@glitterglitters if my DH makes it back for the birth there is NO WAY I'm letting him stand anywhere other than head end 😂😂😂 he claims he wants to witness everything, but that kind of thing can never be unseen...

glitterglitters · 11/07/2017 15:08

😂😂😂😂

Notyetthere · 11/07/2017 18:00

Dh and I had agreed that he wouldn't venture to the business end but when it got to pushing, I could hear the midwives telling him to have a look as the head was about to pop out so he did look. He has just told me that baby's head and body popped out with the leftover pond water that she was swimming in! 😂🤣. Thankfully like Glitters dh, he didn't get to see the car crash afterwards while being stitched in stirrups.

Algebraic Thank you for I reassurance with regards to the Bells palsy. I guess giving birth is a traumatic experience in itself. I haven't seen any improvement yet but as all cases I have read and told about, it could take a few days to weeks so patience on my part. I have a party on 29th July and a wedding on 12th Aug so I hope I have some movement in my face then. Just to help with the selfconfidence. Eating is difficult and sometimes food falls out of my mouth on the paralysed side so socially I'm very conscious of eating in the company of other people other than my close family.

Flappergirl86 · 11/07/2017 18:25

I missed about the bells palsy notyet, sorry to hear that :( hope you're sorted soon and you're being supported well in the mean time xx

Twixes · 11/07/2017 20:19

Oh @Notyetthere the Bell's Palsy sounds rough. I can completely understand how you'd be self conscious. Wishing it improves for you soon Flowers

Pukathon has ended here but DS is very out of sorts at the moment. Anytime I give his sister any attention he comes over to try to slap her. I'm hoping this is just a phase and soon he'll stop. I obviously tell him he's not allowed to do that/be gentle but it's hard to know whether making a big deal of it is making it worse as it might be just for attention. Early days anyway so I'm sure it'll stop soon

Spindelina · 11/07/2017 20:43

Don't think I'm having a baby today - never believed my due date anyway!

mynameisntLinda · 11/07/2017 20:45

twixes how is he the rest of the time? Does he want to help or anything maybe? Prob just frustration or hint of jelously which im totally ecpecting from my ds as it must be so bloody confusing having your little world turned upside down..i felt like that when i had ds and im a fully grown adult lol

Notyetthere · 11/07/2017 23:11

Twixes no worries. The bells palsy struck 9 days ago so I wouldn't be surprised if it has been missed. But I think things are on the mend as I type this message. I believe felt the paralysed side twitch in the cheek. Maybe I might crack an even smile tomorrow.

Colief saga continues here. Lil Notyet continued with her explosive poo in the morning and also has lots of mucus in it. The last few nappies contained green spinach coloured poo when she has had perfect mustard yellow if I say so myself before the colief was given. I think she had dry lips which led me to think she was dehydrated but plenty of wet nappies and she is feeding a lot when she is awake. Seems to be the colief from yesterday messed up her system real bad so hopefully it passes through soon. I would rather have put up with the crying from colic than all that poo and worry. At least she ain't crying from her movements though which is I guess not a bad thing. If the green poo with mucus continues tomorrow I might give the doctors a call.

Notyetthere · 11/07/2017 23:14

Flapper that was a response to your last post re-bells palsy. Not Twixes I'm getting my name's wrong again. I should try and get some sleep before baby wakes up.

Lallypopstick · 12/07/2017 03:53

I had curry for tea last night - so far the only thing that's happened is my heartburn has ramped up quite a bit. No sign of any contractions. 2 days to due date!

glitterglitters · 12/07/2017 04:01

lol that's the trade off at that point. Rush spicy meal for potential labour kickstart, end up swigging Gaviscon all night. I'm currently snuggling dd2 before I put her back down. 😍
