Oh lixon don't berate yourself for feeling emotional. It's completely normal to do so and it's better for the baby to let it all out than to keep it in. I really hope today goes okay and I'm sending u a virtual hug. I love headspace so that should give you some time to yourself plus the unwind mini one might help when you get home. Look after you. Xx

I feel someone playing very persistent lyrics with tiny drumsticks in my belly! Wow...

I'm not a good adviser when it comes to funerals in pregnancy... I had two now, my uncle and my dad and both were awful. The one of my uncle (we weren't really close) was more because I knew the next isn't too far off. I hope no more funerals for me during this pregnancy. I had my share.

Fingers crossed @Peachi82 And fantastic re drumsticks 😄

Just had a call from the midwife following a swab taken during my Monday night scare. Apparently I have Group B strep down there?! So top add to other medical history issues, Little Biker is now at risk of infection if I have a vaginal delivery... apparently I'll have to take antibiotics as soon as my waters break in order to try and mitigate that but it's no guarantee... Great... 😕

dirtygrubbybikerchick · 06/07/2017 15:21

Brief info re Group B strep:

fishfingerSarnies · 06/07/2017 17:33

Oh how annoying Biker, just what you don't bloody need.

glastogal · 06/07/2017 17:34

Aw biker - that's an extra stress for you, so sorry, but the big message I got from the video was it's great that you know early, that the doctors know early, so they can work to protect baby biker!! Flowers

Sounds as though more of us are likely to carry the bacteria but maybe never know! Wonder why the test isn't offered as standard?

CheesecakeAddict · 06/07/2017 18:29

I think my stomach is shrinking. Or not growing. That with the no movement in 2 weeks is getting me panicky now. Everywhere reads that with the first pregnancy there might not be any regular movement till 24+ weeks but my mum and MIL both say that once the kicking starts it should be regular.
Am I just being paranoid or is it worth giving the mw a call?

glastogal · 06/07/2017 18:37

I felt movement very sporadically at first, went well over a week without feeling anything and got really worried.. it's really only been the past 2 days I have felt kicks more frequently (I'm 19+1 now) but I would probably still worry if I didn't get a nudge before bed.

I would say, don't sit and fret.. the midwives are there for you, even if it's just to tell you not to worry!! It's always more reassuring to hear it from a healthcare professional than Google!!

ScotsLamb · 06/07/2017 18:40

I'm currently the same Cheesecake. I'm totally stressing that at a standstill however I've decided that I just need to get on with things and if something has happened then nothing I can do and if something hasn't happened then stressing isn't good for bambino. I'm sure I felt flutters a couple of weeks ago then there has been nothing.
If you are really stressing then give your Midwife a call. I'm seeing mine next week for my 16 week appointment. It's a LONG way to my 20 week scan (14th August) 😞

Carley27 · 06/07/2017 19:14

Cheesecake I would give them a call. As you say it's probably just early days for feeling regular movement but there's no point sitting worried, they can decide if they think they need to see you.

Cheesecake I also agree that you should call them. It's best to get the reassurance you need from a professional.

Mrsbluebell17 · 06/07/2017 19:48

How is everyone progressing with their pram search?

glastogal · 06/07/2017 19:51

We decided what we want weeks ago mrsB and now I'm just sat on my hands waiting to order it!! So jealous of the ladies that have already sorted theirs out. Do you know what you're going for?

Oysterbabe · 06/07/2017 20:04

We have fewer options as we need a double but think we're pretty set on a mountain buggy duet. We'll keep an eye out for a good deal, I don't really want to buy it until about 30 weeks though.

CheesecakeAddict · 06/07/2017 20:20

I tried to have a look but I feel ridiculous going into those kind of shops. I feel like at 18 weeks it's too early and everyone is judging my earliness Blush

Mrsbluebell17 · 06/07/2017 20:32

Cheesecake I am 17+5 and don't think it's too early to be looking. I'm going to hold out to buy anything though!

We like the Ocarro. Hmmmmm.....

Just looking up ways to reveal the gender by text to our parents as they live spread over the country!

ScotsLamb · 06/07/2017 20:35

I felt that too cheesecake. Like I was being a fraud. I made sure I properly puffed out my tummy, took loads of brochures and ran away!

CheesecakeAddict · 06/07/2017 20:42

Haha Scotslamb i'm glad I'm not the only one!

dirtygrubbybikerchick · 06/07/2017 22:48

@glastogal Don't know either. Lots of countries do, and the GBSS (Group B Strep Support) group, who produced the video, are working to try and change this. 1 in 4 is a ridiculous number of women (as bad as miscarriages!) and 1 baby a day contracting it, and 1 baby a week dying from it? Don't like those odds...

glastogal · 06/07/2017 22:53

I imagine those stats are heavily skewed by the fact that most women are not treated for it at the right time due to the test not being done!! Are there stats available for cases of known strepB? Really try not to worry, I think that forewarned is forearmed @dirtygrubbybikerchick - baby biker will arrive into safe hands FlowersFlowers

dirtygrubbybikerchick · 06/07/2017 23:10

@glastogal That's true and I'm glad that they did screen me (guess everything happens for a reason and my panic attack on Monday evening had a positive side to it!). Better chance of preventing an infection (and Little Biker will have increased monitoring in the first 48 hours) now.

Stats - the 1 in 4 women may be slightly skewed if not everyone is screened, but the 1 baby per day / week stats surely wouldn't be (certainly wouldn't be overstated) since it's based on reported numbers.

Just not something extra I'd like to be worrying about 😞

dirtygrubbybikerchick · 06/07/2017 23:13

Ah, just reread your post @glastogal. Stats:

The following are estimates of the chances a baby in Britain will become infected with GBS if no preventative measures are taken and no other risk factors are present:

•	1 in 1,000* where the woman is not known to be a carrier of GBS;
•	1 in 400 where the woman is carrying GBS during the pregnancy;
•	1 in 300 where the woman is carrying GBS at delivery; and
•	1 in 100 where the woman has had a previous baby infected with GBS.
dirtygrubbybikerchick · 06/07/2017 23:14

*This is a broadly accepted estimate of the number of GBS infections in newborn babies that would occur if no preventative intravenous antibiotics in labour are given and this estimate has been used throughout this document. Recent UK research suggested this may be a serious underestimate of the incidence of GBS infection in newborns, which could be as high as 3.6 per 1,000.
If a woman who carries GBS is given antibiotics during labour through delivery in accordance with our medical advisory panel’s recommendations at Prevention, the baby’s risk is reduced significantly.
• 1 in 8,000 where the mother carries GBS during pregnancy;
• 1 in 6,000 where the mother carries GBS at delivery; and
• 1 in 2,200 where the mother has previously had a baby infected with GBS.

glastogal · 06/07/2017 23:24

Those are promising stats!! It's horrible to have something extra to worry about (I know I said try not to - but I also realise how impossible that must be!) but seeing the chance of infection so effectively slashed by having the diagnosis is cause for a great deal of hope. Those would be very low risk odds if applied to the trisonomy tests Smile

I was also reading some of the FAQ that suggested your strep b status can change during the pregnancy. So the bacteria may not be present by the time you deliver (although I believe you will be offered the antibiotics either way!)
