Thanks thought they'd see me because of that too fatty, but rang and they said noAngry

Had a really crappy experience last time, and was hoping they'd see me so I could get a scan at EPU. They said no so I booked a private ate scan

Kirsty157 · 08/05/2017 17:25

Omg. Thanks hate the keyboard on my phone! I'm on the bus on way home and it's jumping about lol

purplechoc · 08/05/2017 17:45

I just had to pop into the doctors for something different but picked up the midwife information whilst I was there. It says they only offer ultrasounds at 20 weeks at that clinic.

Does anyone know if you have to go to the clinic that is associated with your doctors or if you do have a choice? I thought it was fairly standard to have a scan at 12 and 20 weeks Confused

Kirsty157 · 08/05/2017 18:07

I think it's standard at 12 and 20 weeks purple. Maybe they refer you to local hospital? That's where we go for ours. as far as I know our community midwives don't do scans, but my sisters in her area do the 12 week scan in their local clinic

WLMcI · 08/05/2017 18:07

purplechoc it is definitely standard to do scans at between 10 weeks and 13+6 weeks. If they don't do it there, they must have a referral service so you are seen somewhere else for the first scan! I would ring them and ask (if they are at all likely to answer the phone, that is).

purplechoc · 08/05/2017 18:11

Thanks @Kirsty157 and @WLMcI. It states earlier scans has to be private so it does seem odd. I will ring up in the morning and ask.

WLMcI · 08/05/2017 18:12

Kirsty that's rather unfeeling of them! Our EPU was so great with my MC and they automatically offer you the 8 week scan in your next pregnancy after you've had a MC. It was actually on their wee manifesto/pledge to their patients poster on the wall, and she said to me before we left to make sure and ring them directly next time when I got towards 8 weeks to book the scan (so no referral needed).

6+4 today, woot!

Kirsty157 · 08/05/2017 18:15

To be fair @WLMcl I didn't really push it. I didn't think of phoning the EPU direct. Mine were lovely too, fingers crossed I won't be needing their services again this time though :)

ImBreakingBad · 08/05/2017 18:27

I called the EPU this morning and I've to see the midwife next week and book in for my 8 week scan.

I've also started on baby aspirin - anyone tried this?

Waitingonasmile · 08/05/2017 18:33

imbreakingbad I was told after having DS I was to take aspirin in next pregnancy as I had pre-elampsia, but I have no clue when it was to be started. I thought after 12 weeks but maybe I should go to doctors and ask.

pebble82 · 08/05/2017 18:34

Checking back in after a four day hen do. Absolutely impossible keeping this pregnancy under wraps at an all inclusive resort! Now got to get used to keeping it a secret again. Am I the only person feeling positive? All this testing and early scans is making me nervous!

ImBreakingBad · 08/05/2017 18:36

waiting I'm absolutely no help! Im taking this is in the hope it'll help me hold on to this one.

The EPU were brilliant and said no problem. Doctors on the other hand are a fucking joke and the receptionist needs a slap Angry

mrsb87 · 08/05/2017 18:49

No panicking here pebble, I did have a very early scan at 6wks last time because of the hyperemesis making me so ill.

rabbitstail · 08/05/2017 18:54

That's bizarre about the 12 week scan! I also thought it was standard. I had a mc 12 yrs ago (yes I am that old!) and was given an early scan at my next pregnancy, where unfortunately I also had an mc. My last was five yrs ago, fortunately she is now a cheeky 5 yr old, and was told that they don't routinely scan early. I've not bothered asking this time and have booked a private at 8 weeks for reassurance.

pebble82, I am feeling positive about this pregnancy but trying not to be complacent about it being a sticky bean x

pebble82 · 08/05/2017 19:00

Oh that's fair enough. I didn't mean it to sound flippant, rather just trying to be cheerful. Today we are pregnant. Whoop!

ImBreakingBad · 08/05/2017 19:17

rabbitstail if you don't mind me asking, what advice did you get regarding pregnancy after MC? I've been told of EPU to just wait and see (they were lovely) but other than that nothing.

ifeellikechickentonight · 08/05/2017 19:24

I'm just starting to allow myself to get excited at times pebble, but so anxious at other times. The latest mc I've had was 5+3 and I'll be 5+3 tomorrow so if I can get past that it will be a personal milestone. I do feel so much more pg than I did last time I had a mc, lots of weird twinges and I'm so bloated, plus my lines on the FRER are really dark, they've always stayed faint when I've gone on to mc.

Welcome to all the newbies and congrats on your BFPs!

rabbitstail · 08/05/2017 19:27

Yes that same here. my mc were quiet a few years apart as the first was a molar so I didnt try for a while due to advice from the specialist (I went back to university instead!). I got pregnant by accident again and had an early scan that showed a blighted ovum at 8wks. The dr just told me there was no reason and to try again. I think they generally say to wait until after your next period but it actually took me two years. I wasn't tracking my ovulation or anything and in fact the gp thought I was going through the menopause! I then had a successful pg. then I had a chemical in Feb this year, again I wasn't trying and I just thought well why not give it a go! This will be my last chance as I'm now 43. I've heard of lots of women who have had multiple mc and gone on to have successful pg x

Kirsty157 · 08/05/2017 19:38

I'm feeling positive Pebble :)
I had a MC just before Christmas at 11 weeks, but baby had stopped developing about four weeks before that. I had no symptoms at all, but this time I seem to be developing the full works :( I'm pleased for it really, and am taking it as a good sign. I've only booked the scan for a bit of reassuarance, as I know if you can see a heartbeat at seven and a half weeks the odds of a successful pg are highly in your favour.

Fattycowagain · 08/05/2017 19:40

Pebble, I'm not too worried either, but it is nice of my midwife to offer the early scan.

Purple, how odd about the 12 week scan! That is the dating scan they use to figure out your official due date!

My midwife team has a scan machine, which they use to confirm pregnancy and later on when you are worried. The 12 and 20 week scans are done at a major practice a bit farther away, which has a very fancy machine that offers more details than the one in the local practice.

PurplePoppySeed · 08/05/2017 20:05

Wow, I can't keep up at all! Welcome all newbies and sorry in advance that I've probably missed most of the questions/advice etc though I did try to skim through!

My nausea has got ridiculous - if I'm not eating I feel really sick and burp constantly now, if I've just eaten I feel worse Sad I haven't been in the office since last Tuesday as my DD has had chicken pox so I'm not sure how il cover it up tomorrow!

Does anyone else find it odd that the midwife won't see you until 10 weeks or so? Last time (2013) I got an appointment straight away, this time, totally uninterested?!? We've been trying for no. 2 for 18+ months and had a hideous time, now I'm finally there, I'm really worried about it and yet there's no NHS support until after the nervous stage! The sceptic in me says it's money saving to wait until later as they won't have to deal with early loss Angry am I just submitting to my pregnancy emotions?

Fattycowagain · 08/05/2017 20:12

Purplepoppy, sorry to hear you are that nauseous!
Our midwife team usually only sees you from 8+ weeks, but most of the time the earliest appointments are at 9+ weeks.

Usernamegone · 08/05/2017 20:50

I'm seeing the GP on Weds when I will be 5+4. This will be #1 for me so went into the surgery and said to the receptionist. I'm pregnant do I need a GP app, this will be my first so I don't know what I am doing! Grin

I'm going to ask the GP what hayfever stuff I can take (as I normally get bad hayfever) and am I ok to carry on exercising (have felt fine so have carried on).

Otherwise no sickness (touch wood) just boob ache, bloating, constant need to wee and my bowels have gone to sleep.

Hi Everyone,

Please can I join ? I just got my BFP yesterday

EDD 12 January. Only 4+3 atm but if all goes well this will be #1 for me.

I'm very excited but completely new to all this. No idea what I'm letting myself in for - but maybe that's for the best Grin
