@lydiangel83 I have been looking/ feeling in vain for ages but it is totally unmistakable when you do feel it. Literally feels like a hard lump above your pubic bone.

lydiangel83 · 14/05/2017 13:17

Thanks @Teachervoice what does it mean if/ when it is hard?

Teachervoice · 14/05/2017 13:23

Just that your womb is expanding and moving out from your pelvis I think, @lydiangel83.

Your bump will start low like this and then gradually expand upwards, which is why your midwife will measure from your pubic bone to the top of your bump to ascertain whether your baby is growing at the correct rate.

I'm a FTM though so can't pretend I have any experience of this other than what I've been told by friends and the hardish lump I've been able to feel since yesterday! 🙂

butterybollocks · 14/05/2017 13:35

I am 12+6 and have had the lump above my pubic bone for 2 or 3 weeks, and it's now moving upwards a bit. Feels very early for this!

theotherendofthesockportal · 14/05/2017 15:31

I have a noticeable bump already! I'm 13+3, and think mine is noticeable because I was on the chubby side before. It is bump shaped too rather than just being chub!

Bizarrely I start to get a firmness from where my ribs meet that spreads downwards, which eventually joins to the much less firm feeling that spreads from pelvis. My ribs and upper abdominal muscles seem to get ready long before the rest of my stomach!

DryHeave · 14/05/2017 15:51

No bump here but the maternity jeans round out my pudginess! Having a general ache/sore muscle feeling in my lower abdomen and back, so assuming everything is stretching out at the moment.

I also just cried at the Dog's Trust advert and I am firmly a cat person, so something is definitely up with my emotions! Anyone else having this?

Teachervoice · 14/05/2017 16:47

Cried from the beginning to the end of 'A Dog's Purpose' which was practically emotional torture. Even cried in the bits that weren't sad, purely because my dog is called Bailey and so was the dog in the film.

Have also had lots of aches and pains over the past week, which, apart from some painful back twinges today, seem to have subsided as soon as I developed my tiny bump (lump really.)

MrsC1982 · 14/05/2017 20:20

I cried because my wood work was dusty... therefore I deemed the entire house a shit hole (it's not) and burst into full on sobbing tears...

Also stormed dramatically to the bedroom yesterday because DH suggested my 5 year old Ikea rug was past it...

Oh hormones hormones hormones Grin

Zampa · 14/05/2017 20:23

No bump either at 12+3 but can't fit into my old trousers anymore (but not bumpy enough for maternity clothes yet - grr!).

Good luck for tomorrow Spring. Hope you discover all is well.

Foggymist · 14/05/2017 20:30

Zampa i don't really have a bump yet but had to get maternity jeans, couldn't close any of my own! They're a bit big but much better than ones with a 2-3 inch gap where the closed zip should be!

izzibee29 · 14/05/2017 20:31

Teachervoic I totally put the error down to excitement. I have a small bump currently- but feel it's more just looking like a good Xmas dinner rather than a baby.

Teachervoice · 14/05/2017 20:39

Same as me, Izzy. Feel like it's 99% bloat and 1% baby. Lovely scan photo.

Zampa · 14/05/2017 20:55

Foggy I've bought the next size up in a couple of pairs of trousers. Once they're too tight (and we're heading that way!) I'll be digging out the mat wear!

What are your go to brands? I loved my H&M jeans and Seraphine was brilliant for work dresses. Would like to get some more casual clothes (as this time pregnant overt summer rather than winter) and looking for recommendations.

Will probably need a maternity coat too, once we get to September. Managed to avoid that expense last time!

Foggymist · 14/05/2017 21:13

Next size up just doesn't work on me, I've skinny thighs so they look shapeless and scruffy!

My jeans are all h&m, found them great last time. I was pregnant over winter last time too but I'm hoping to survive with regular stretchy and loose summer tops and then my lovely cosy winter jumpers.

TreasureInMyTummy · 14/05/2017 23:23

I cry at least once a day now over anything with emotion ( happy or sad ) sometimes I laugh when I'm crying as my dad gets worried and asks what's wrong. I manage to get out hormones as even though I'm laughing a bit at the silliness of it I still have to cry for a few minutes and then I'm fine. I'm a proper loon at the mo!

lydiangel83 · 15/05/2017 00:20

Interesting to hear about brands, I've no idea where to start with mat clothes but my newly fattened out legs and mid-section mean I will need new work clothes soon as mine are usually quite fitted dresses and jackets. Have bought some jeans the next size up that I'm hoping will last a while but otherwise not bought anything else yet.

I don't want to spend a fortune so may look on eBay for some smarter work dresses (also have a family wedding in September when I will be huge!), and then high street shops / next size up for loose summer tops and casual wear etc.

I feel like I need a few staple work skirts/ trousers to mix and match tops with, not sure where to get these from but people have said Next is good?

lydiangel83 · 15/05/2017 00:20

Ps - also very ratty all the time (DH's words not mine) and quite anxious / emotional even more than usual!

AGnu · 15/05/2017 01:37

I'm having a nightmare finding mat jeans. I got some off eBay that fit ok but I'm pretty sure they're "long" & at 5' there's nothing "long" about me! I've got them folded up about 5" with safety pins for now. All the shops I look in have several pairs of skinny jeans & just one pair of straight or relaxed fit but they're always the "worn" look. I'm blessed with big hips & chunky thighs & skinny jeans do not look good on me. I just want a pair of under-bump jeans that don't cut off the blood supply to my legs & don't look like I can't afford hole-less trousers. It's too late now to get any more before I go away but thankfully it looks like it'll be warm so I should get away with wearing shorts Next do some decent non-hot-pants mat shorts some of the time & there's a guest laundry facility at the hotel if my one pair of too-long jeans get dirty. I'm probably going to have to do something about them before we fly - I can't imagine security at the airport being thrilled with me setting off their machines with my safety pins!

AGnu I'm doing the eBay thing for now too just to try a few brands for cheap rather than dive in with an expensive buy. Have also purchased some sale bits from Asos for later. But not loads. I have a wedding coming up in late Aug so am starting to think I'll need something super stretchy to wear to that all day.

Zampa · 15/05/2017 06:04

Lydia I would recommend buying specific mat wear rather than just larger sizes. I think that the latter can be very unflattering and make you look fat rather than pregnant!

I liked Gap maternity for basics (t-shirts etc) but wouldn't buy New Look again (barely lasted a pregnancy!). I got some summer dresses from ASOS last time but again, quite cheap looking. Seraphine and Isabelle Oliver sell gorgeous clothes but the sale rack and eBay are the best places to buy their clothes as they are £££.

I'm searching for the Holy Grail of affordable and good quality! I've never tried Mothercare, JoJo Maman Bebe or Mamas & Papas.

TBH I probably don't need any more clothes but WANT some!

MrsC1982 · 15/05/2017 06:25

Those struggling for jeans, I have two pairs from Fun Mum, bloody brilliant, trendy with a cool weave (have had many compliments) and a long enough leg 34" will allow me to wear flat trainers, they also do petite and regular sizes too. Only £32 so well worth the investment

Foggymist · 15/05/2017 07:54

AGnu would you get the jeans taken up? Then they'd be perfect :)

Where I am there's loads of Facebook selling groups for second hand maternity/nursing clothes, keeping an eye on them and asos as I've weddings in July & August and don't want to do spend much on a new dress as I never managed to resell a beautiful maxi dress I bought for a wedding at 36 weeks last time, cost me €60!

kimblesj · 15/05/2017 08:02

Can't believe it's all going so quickly!
I have had a bump for a few weeks but I think being number 5 my body pretty much gave up at conception and admitted defeat. Also I'm pretty sure I have no abdominal muscles left!
I sleep on my front and have noticed that it's uncomfortable so have been sleeping on my left side last few days, got my big fat pregnant pillow out again wahoo!!
Also found some maternity jeans in the loft which is a god send as everything is just so uncomfortable to wear!
I usually put on a massive amount of weight in pregnancy and I'm not small to start with 🙈 but so far this time I have lost a kg! This is only due to gdd and not being able to eat any nice food!
