Do you think I will need a travel cot/basket thingummy for the inevitable trip to Oz or do you think it would be ok for the bean to sleep on the hotel bed with us. I have a lingering fear of all the stories about how many types of bacteria live in hotel beds.

stretchmarks · 22/03/2007 17:56

Afternoon all, well I know my brain can't take in a whole days thread so forgive me for not responding to specific people.

I am now constantly singing the only Carter the unstoppable sex machine song I know which is only living boy in New cross I think ? Reminds me of nights in the Hummingbird Birmingham much to my parents disapproval. Glad to say when we went to a gig there last year they still had a distinctly sticky carpet, and I felt far too middle aged to be there any more.

We've only bought a little teddy for DS2 so far he will receive all the hand me downs from his big brother. We were lucky when we had DS1 to get alot from my DH's ex SIL - cot moses basket and bath. My parents also bought our travel system which was great glad I didn't pay for it for the length of time we used it !!! Only thing I wanted to get this time that I didn't use with DS1 was one of those swaddling blankets and I am tempted to try cloth napies this time so very good to hear about people's previous expereiences.

Must go now DS1 and DH are home will catch up with you all tomorrow.

kiteflying · 22/03/2007 17:56

maybe the hotel drawer?

tokentotty · 22/03/2007 17:58

The hotel drawer that's full of your clothes will be perfectly suitable !!

tokentotty · 22/03/2007 18:01

Right - off to the pub !!! How depressing in current state....sigh....
Until tomorrow all xx

Washersaurus · 22/03/2007 19:07

Ahhh the Hummingbird - Why were the carpets always so sticky??

Washersaurus · 22/03/2007 19:10

I'm sure a hotel would be able to provide you with something better than a drawer! If not I have one of those bags that opens out into a travel cot that you can borrow - I bought it 2nd hand and only used it a couple of times as we didn't go away much when DS was that small.

kiteflying · 22/03/2007 19:25

Thanks washersaurus - that's really kind of you. I have been eyeing these on ebay already, which prompted my question earlier. I don't think you want to give me yours at this stage - especially as I won't be coming back! Will probably buy the pop-up travel basket as it might be good for hiking as well.

Washersaurus · 22/03/2007 19:39

Well there is always the post you know! Well the offer is there if you need it, I'm almost certain we won't be travelling with new baby for the first few months, as would just be too much with 2 of them!

conkertree · 23/03/2007 08:58

morning all - lovely frosty morning here - very glad as usual that it's Friday. What are people up to at the weekend?

My DH is off to see his parents today, grudgingly - he's pretty annoyed at them since they knew on Sunday night that our scan was on monday and they still haven't phoned to ask how it went. would be nice if they showed a little bit of interest but never mind.

tokentotty · 23/03/2007 09:36

Morning Conkertree, that's a bit about dh's parents isn't it. Still, I'm sure he'll get a chance to tell them how he feels about them not calling.
Have to say, I am officially big now. Peanut felt really big and heavy last night and I was so glad to leave the pub and get into my car and then went straight to bed to read and just lie down.
Oh !!! News of the day.....THE Crave dress arrived this morning. Will go and try it on in the disabled toilets some time today and attempt to take a picture and post it for you all to give opinions.
Hope all else are well - Kite, what about getting one of these that will suit you for home, travel and arrival in Oz before you've had a chance to sort yourself out not a drawer btw . Is what I'm planning on having until I get someone's secondhand cot.

Hersetta · 23/03/2007 10:09

Morning all,

Consultants appointment went well, everthing still as it should be and nice heartbeat heard. Even had a student doctor prod my tummy and measure my fundal length which a 21cm is a little bit above where I should be at 17.5weeks but better too big than too small I suppose.

They are also going to make me an appointment to see a anaesthesiologist as I've never had any type of anaesthetic before so they want his to check me over in case I need an epidural or emergency general. Must admit that everyone (from the receptionists to the doctors and nurses) at the Rosie were lovely and friendly - puts you at ease immediately.

Can't wait to hear about the dress TT.

tokentotty · 23/03/2007 10:21

Hey Hersetta, glad to hear all went so well love, that's great news. Quite a big difference between your fundal height and the dates you have eh ? I don't have a clue about all that to be honest though as I'd never even heard of fundal height until a couple of months ago !!

Hersetta · 23/03/2007 10:34

Nor me !!

It's amazing what you learn when you're pg.

I did a bit on research this morning online and the fundal height should be your gestational age plus or minus 1 to 3 cm (during weeks 15-25). So adding on 3cm to my weeks gets me to 20.5 which is almost what they measured. i put it down to the student doctor as the senior registrar I saw din't even bother measuring.

Washersaurus · 23/03/2007 10:37

Morning all!

Hersetta good news about fundal height etc - my DS always measured BIG but was actually quite an average size baby really, like you say - better big than small!

TT - Looking forward to dress pics after all the hype! Sure it will look fab.

Have to disagree on your cot choice however comfy - that is one EXPENSIVE bed for a baby!

Conker - boo hiss to DH's parents for not showing more interest. Maybe they didn't want to come across too pushy? Bet they are really excited really.

We are off to indoor play this afternoon with DS as DH only works 1/2 day on Friday. Then Sunday lunch with in-laws...must mentally prepare myself

tokentotty · 23/03/2007 10:38

And you measure from....??? Is it the top of your womb? Have just read that it starts about an inch under the navel which I've managed to feel but you measure down to where? All too much for me !

tokentotty · 23/03/2007 10:44

Hey Wash, morning !
Regarding the bed thing, do you think it's really that dear ? (not a clue to be honest as haven't looked at things like moses baskets etc to compare it with). Just figured it would be really handy and perfect to have over in Spain as it packs down, therefore giving Peanut continuity in sleeping while I'm over there. If it lasts up to a year and I'm not having to pay for a cot either then figured it wasn't too bad. Although was planning on looking for one on ebay anyway.

Washersaurus · 23/03/2007 10:49

Well I know it says birth to 12 mths but cannot imagine just how you get a 1 yr old into that hammock

You can get a moses basket for about £30 or a folding travel carry cot from Vertbaudet for £20 - admittedly they don't claim to last as long...the hammocks are a nice idea but do seem a bit pricey

Hersetta · 23/03/2007 10:49

You measure from the top of your uterus (which should be right by your belly button at 20 weeks) so adjust down a bit down to the top of your pubic bone.

Talking of beds, I have already taken to Spain and left with my Mum a pop up samsonite travel cot for the baby to use when i go over (probably in October)- it even comes with a built in zip up mozzie net so perfect for Spain.

Washersaurus · 23/03/2007 10:50

I found that grobags were good for travel as you can put LO to sleep ANYWHERE and they are happy in their familiar sleeping bag.

tokentotty · 23/03/2007 10:56

Well I say a year but obviously I'd hope to pinch my cot well before that anyway!!
I love those growbags too. Buy them for all my friends when they have their babies as I really think they're fab and heard nothing but good stuff about them.

Washersaurus · 23/03/2007 11:06

I am not going to risk attempting to measure myself as I am absolutely useless and would probably end up with baby elephant size fundal height or something! Def one for me to leave to the experts!

Mrsshuvel · 23/03/2007 11:29

Hi All

Can't wait to see the dress TT!

Not going to attempt to measure myself either. There's only guys in the office today and they already think i'm mad, keep getting the ruler out to see how much the baby has grown evry time i get an email update from mumsnet or cow and gate or any of the other hundreds of baby sites i signed up with to get free stuff. But glad your appointments went well Hersetta.

That's a shame about In laws Conker. DP's parents are a bit like that but they are quite reserved about everything.

I think the hammock looks gorgeous but agree it is quite pricey but if its what you want then go for it.

Mrsshuvel · 23/03/2007 11:34

Got a letter from the hospital yesterday to say that i'm Rhesus Negative and i will have to start having injections from about 30 weeks. I think it basically means that my blood could create antibodies to attack the babies blood but was assured in the letter that it's not something to worry about. If anyone can elaborate it would be much appreciated.

Just ordered new washing machine and tumble dryer after 2 weeks (i think) of arguments with DP about it. Got so fed up just went ahead and did it. Orderd a Siemens which will arrive next weds [sigh of relief emoticon].

tokentotty · 23/03/2007 11:42

ah well done on your decisive washing machine purchasing !!
sorry to hear about the Rhesus negative business. Isn't uncommon as a friend of mine always has to be tested for it when she's pregnant. I don't know much about it but am sure someone else will. If not, just start a thread of your own and you're bound to get loads of useful information.
