But I will probably use all DS' stuff again anyway - I had to put up with all my brothers hand-me-downs!

tokentotty · 22/03/2007 16:29

Hahahaha I also sound relaxed like you Wash, and this isn't even my second! Just spoke to a friend who was saying about a great cot shop she wanted to take me to. I said there was no point as I wasn't going to bother buying one. I'm going to wait for my sil to bump my nephew (2 in July) into a proper bed and then nick hers. Will use one of those nature's nest things until that happens. She was rather surprised !!

pinkranger · 22/03/2007 16:35

dont blame you tt , we will use ALL of ds stuff (most of it) and even with him a freind of a friend gave us a cot and we just sanded it down and re varnised it! i think we will do that this time as he threw milk around it for the next 2 years!

kiteflying · 22/03/2007 16:36

I bought one when I was six weeks pregnant In my defence, I was flush with the thrill of our confirmation scan and also terrified at the length of lists of "must have" items. Therefore developed my ebay habit...

Washersaurus · 22/03/2007 16:37

I think that is very sensible, I am hoping to get DS into a toddler bed before new baby needs the cotbed as really don't want to have to buy another cot!

But I will hopefully be treated to a new Phil & Teds for them both - that is the only new thing I think we will need.

Washersaurus · 22/03/2007 16:38

Ha ha Kite - my weakness when pregnant with DS was nappies!

Mrsshuvel · 22/03/2007 16:40

I've been very good - only bought a nursing chair from ebay and that's only because it was virtually brand new and a steal at £150.

Mrsshuvel · 22/03/2007 16:41

Haven't really got anyone to pass me anything so will be buying everything. Have a list and the amount i need makes scary reading.

kiteflying · 22/03/2007 16:41

Much more sensible as you would have felt very prepared on the score!

I bought our first pram (the cheap one) at ten weeks. My BF kept clucking about "tempting fate" etc

kiteflying · 22/03/2007 16:42

Sorry my message first bit was addressed to Wash

Washersaurus · 22/03/2007 16:44

MrsShuvel I had a long list when pg with DS as my sister was also pregnant at the same time and her need for hand me downs was considered greater , so I too developed an ebay addiction, bought cheap cotbed, travel system, bouncer, moses basket etc etc (but not until I was about 8 mths pg)

Mrsshuvel · 22/03/2007 16:48

I'm gonna try to get stuff when in Florida - whatever i can get in my suitcase and if i have enough baggage allowance the pram. I only did the list to show DP why we couldn't afford an £800 washing machine but shocked myself as well.

conkertree · 22/03/2007 16:48

everyone i know with one baby is having another around the same time as this one, so dont think we can get any hand me down stuff. i still feel a bit nervous about buying anything yet though, but i do want to get things at least picked before i get too big.

carter is er for me too - like it though - would just not have thought of it myself.

did like george for a while but thats my bosses name so cant use it - especially after he gave me a row today - am still fuming about that

kiteflying · 22/03/2007 16:50

MrsShuvel, it was adding up how much it would all cost that drove me to start early. I am trying to save a slush fund as well as buy everything, so as to be able to extend my ML beyond what is actually paid if I can at all help it. If I leave it until the last minute I will have a panic I think.

conkertree · 22/03/2007 16:53

we had so many plans to save a little each month to supplement income on ml but so far its been rather slim pickings at the end of each month.

things always somehow seem to work out money wise though so am not going to worry about it too much. my parents are buying the pram, and pil buying the cot so thats two big things off the list

kiteflying · 22/03/2007 16:55

That's great conkertree - are you being given a new cot and pram then? Lovely.

Washersaurus · 22/03/2007 16:57

And you really can cope without most of the stuff you think you need. That is what I discovered anyway!

Mrsshuvel · 22/03/2007 16:57

I want to take the full year ML.

I know my parents will buy something big for us and DP has a few motorbikes to sell to add to the baby fund so i know we will be fine. It's just when you see it all written down that it actually hits home.

Washersaurus · 22/03/2007 16:58

Obviously a cot and pram are necessary

conkertree · 22/03/2007 17:02

yes - it seems to be a bit of a family tradition - started when purplerabbit had her ds and so thats a nice help. still a very long list though although everything else is a lot smaller.

kiteflying · 22/03/2007 17:06

Are you sure about that - I think TT is planning on using a drawer LOL

conkertree · 22/03/2007 17:09

my dh slept in a drawer for several months according to my mil - never did him any harm (as far as I can tell)

tokentotty · 22/03/2007 17:35

Well its a drawer or a suitcase for me I think, and I shall carry Peanut around in an old t-shirt fashioned into a sling-type arrangement. Obviously this is after the sink bath and wipe down with dishcloth...
Honestly - you lot just seem so extravagant with your cots and prams...

Washersaurus · 22/03/2007 17:43

I love the idea of a suitcase - nice and portable!

tokentotty · 22/03/2007 17:45

Actually, have a very nice wheelie one that could easily be used as a pram once peanut has outgrown my homemade sling....
