Just thought I'd better kick a new one off...
Another day, another tearful outburst at work! It's getting very embarrassing Is it just me who feels like crying at the drop of a hat? Maybe it's lack of sleep, just not dealing very well with things that would not normally bother me, then something really small sets me off. cried in the toilets for 20 minutes today! Can't even explain why. Is this normal still at this stage?

Daisy - pmsl at your post!

Seansgirl - don't worry, its my favourite subject!!! Had 2 HBs, and planning the next at home too. Last time I woke up at 1.32am feeling a bit uncomfy. Got up, knew it was the beginning. Called Delivery suite to let them know it'd started. MV, who I didn't really know, but she'd been out to do DS2's HB check last time, called me back about 20 mins later, told me to have a warm bath and couple paracetemol. Called her back at about 4.30, she came at 5 (I was in control, pain building gradually, all OK). Second MV came. I paced around the room with every contraction, getting faster each time. Bounced on ball inbetween to help descent. Was considering not having the gas and air infront of me, but decided I was being a bit daft refusing drugs for the sake of it! DS1 was waking up at about 6.30 so got him up, told him I was about to have the baby, DP got him settled with the neighbours, MV popped my waters, had DD at 7am, DS2 woke up, joined DS2 for Rice Krispies with the neighbours. Fed DD, had a shower, DP got DD dressed, MV cleaned up. All had tea. By 8am MVs went home, boys met their new sister, DP got them ready and took them to nursery! Doesn't get much better than that

hollyandalice · 22/03/2007 14:43

Well....I've just been to see mw and she thinks I do have spd, but she cannot refer me as there is no obstetric physiotherapist in Southampton as there is not enough money ! She gave me some tips on how to manage it and if it gets any worse to see the gp. All the gp can do is refer me to a local physio, but there are massive waits and I would have prob had my baby by the time I get an appt! There is no way I can afford a private physio, so I'll just have to get on with it!

Anyway there's my rant over with! I'm 27 weeks and am measuring 29. Mmmm...not good! This baby is going to be massive! I'm all go for a home birth though, so I'll have to start looking at the different pools. Minefield!!

Hope everyone is feeling ok x

hollyandalice · 22/03/2007 14:45

x posted there foxy! Your home births sound great! I'm glad I can have one so I can be at home, sleep in my bed and eat my own food!!

marylou23 · 22/03/2007 14:52

Okay, well-endowed womem look away now. I've just been on the hunt for bras that are comfortable (I've had enough of my M&S ones which dig in everywhere) and, having been a 34B pretty much forever, I typed in my new measurements to a bra-size calculator... and I'm freakin 36A . A!!! I don't get it. I'm bigger. Much bigger. And yet I've been demoted to an A cup? Tried another site just to check and yup, 36A. I want to register my deep, deep disatisfaction with this state of affairs. Most maternity lines don't even DO an A cup. Now, who was talking about padded bras yesterday, and where can I find them...?!

mytwocents · 22/03/2007 14:57

Hello ladies! Wish I could join in everyday with your 'chatting'.......
H&A you poor thing!, I know i bang on about it but have you been to an antenatal yoga class? It may help you, esp if the teacher knows about your condition... Bumper hope your back's not too painful, would be great if we all had swimming pools, only place I feel weightless and can move, lovely!
Heartburn! WOW it's really sudden is'nt it? I get it with all sorts of different foods too..Got these tablets called fruitin, basically just mint oil and chalk, they do help though.
Not thought about home birth really but Foxy , your experience sounds fantastic!
We are signing up to hypnobirthing classes next week, heard such amazing things from friends, hoping for deep state of relaxation with dp in control.... he's SO much better in a crisis than I am!

hollyandalice · 22/03/2007 14:57

Marylou you are probably better off buying a cheap sports type bra for now as your boobs will grow more. I started off at a 34B before I had my dd. I was in my normal bras up until about 30 weeks when they just got massive! I bought some nursing bras and they were a 36DD!!! Unfortunately my boobs never shrunk back and I've stayed at a 36D-DD! I'd love to have my 34Bs back!

mytwocents · 22/03/2007 14:59

Marylou, cup sizes are very odd, my colleague, also pg claims to be an F , I stick out much more than her and look twice the size yet am also an F.....

hollyandalice · 22/03/2007 15:00

Yoga. Sounds like a cunning plan. I'll look into it. Thanks !

marylou23 · 22/03/2007 15:10

Sorry, Holly, was so caught up in my mammary issues I missed your post. So crap they can't get you into a physio. But pregnancy yoga and/or, dare I say it, Pilates might help. They do pregnancy pilates videos. And I'm only evangelical because I used to get shooting pains down my hip when I walked and a physio told me to do pilates - I haven't had a problem since. My problem was to do with pelvic alignment and arching my back too much, whcih is what happens to most people when they're pregnant, and all through this pregnancy I've been fine, I'm sure because I've been doing my exercises...
ANyway, sermon over. Really hope you find something that works...

Seansgirl · 22/03/2007 15:16

Foxy, thanks so much that really sounds like the perfect birth. Well done you! Am going to give serious consideration whilst away and hope that consultant is not anti the idea.

Marylou, I can sympathise, although I'm ssort of middle ground, I never really got bigger . Doesn't seem like I'm going too this time. Am stuck at 38D (don't foget that this is proportion as am not a small girl!) Padded maternity bras at M&S by the way.

Seansgirl · 22/03/2007 15:20

Sorry, Holly also didn't read your post re.physio. The NHS sucks doesn't it? Am on your behalf. Pilates or yogs sounds like a good start, particularly pilates. Maybe someone else on MN is experienced on the subject and could give you some ideas on gentle exercises? Hope the pain eases for you, and take it easy hun. Ditch the heels to afterwards?

Seansgirl · 22/03/2007 15:21

Tee Hee Bumper - looks at my typos, makes yours look minor

hollyandalice · 22/03/2007 15:22

Lol at "mammary issues"!!!

BTW does anyone think Olbas Oil would have a lasting effect if ingested? Earlier I cleared the plates away after lunch and went back in the front room to give my dd her juice and she wasn't there. I looked for her everywhere and finally found her upstairs beside my bed eating Olbas Oil and looking really pleased with herself! "Mmmm mummy eating in my mouth!" She seems fine and smells lovely! It's not poisonous is it? I've looked on the website and it doesn't mention anything so I suppose she'll be fine, it is all natural after all!

mytwocents · 22/03/2007 15:34

I drank olbas oil when I was little, I think I enjoyed the slightly burning sensation...hmmmm...
No harm done, very clear nasal passage!

sputnik · 22/03/2007 15:35

Hi all, I'm back online in double quick time thank to my super wonderful DH, alias tech dept, who has set me up with internet via a mobile from my portable. The geek in me is thrilled, I will now be able to post from the sofa, bed, bath, the world is my oyster

Very jealous of your homebirths, you can't do it here except privatly, and I'm not even sure a private MW would come all the way out to our house anyway. I'm going to have to stay with MIL when I'm due as DH works 1 1/2 hours drive away, and the hospital where I want to give birth is the same distance again. There is a slightly closer one but it's crap. Anyway, I'm not looking forward to it and I'm desperatly hoping to go into labour at the weekend.

N&T&B, hope things get better for you soon, I really symathise on the broken nights.

sputnik · 22/03/2007 15:41

On the norkage front, i think everyone is different. I never grew much at all in my first pg, then when my milk came in after the birth I left the hospital feeling like Dolly Parton. This time they have grown, as they obviously know what the deal is now

bumperlicious · 22/03/2007 17:20

Hi all

PSML @ daisybump! Hi again NT&B, sorry to hear you are so exhausted - come back when you can.

H&A sorry to hear about the SPD. I hope you manage to find some kind of treatment. I'm going to the osteopaths tomorrow evening. Cost me £45 but it's worth it for my sanity. Will let you know if it helps. Tried bolstering myself up with pillows either side last night (poor DH in the spare room again) but still woke up with backache and just generally slept badly. When I lay on my side I find my ribs really ache. I think it's coz all my organs are squashed in there! Anyway so tired I even skipped yoga and came back home early to eat my chocolate Lindt bunny - yum!

Nice - just sneezed 3 times and now I have a nose bleed! Been getting them for a while. Anyone else getting them. God you guys must think I'm a hypochondriac. Are there any pg symptoms that I haven't had????

Foxy, hope your furry friends move out soon! Though I must say I would prefer mice to spiders . No way I could consider a home birth. I live in a flat that is not very sound proof, plus I want a water birth, so either my neighbours would hear me in all my birthing glory, or worse still me and the pool would go crashing through the ceiling to the neighbours below!

hollyandalice · 22/03/2007 18:27

Ahhhh! Dp has just gone to the shop to buy me a Toffee Crisp and some Fruitella! I love him!! That should cure all my ills (well for 5 mins anyway!).

Grrrr...if my dd makes me read her Each Peach Pear Plum one more time I'm going to chuck it out the window! When do kids grow out of making you read them the same story over and over again? I love reading her stories, but not the same one all the bloody time!!

Daisybump · 22/03/2007 19:11

HandA....have a look at these maternity supports but there are loads more available. I bought a cheap one for a tenner in Mothercare and it does the trick just nicely, and the difference is enormous. I've got problems with my sacro-iliac joint and have been getting pain in my pubic bone as well and it really helps...that and decent exercises from my physio. Mine charges £36 for the initial consultation, then £32 thereafter, so its not massively expensive. You'd probably only need to see them once or twice and they could order the correct sort of support for you. Definately worth it I think. I also find that sleeping with a pillow between my knees makes a huge difference, except it keeps escaping from the bed!
We humans aren't really designed very well when it comes to pregnancy, are we? What with raging hormones, backache, varicose veins...not to mention all the extra secretions...we'd be fair game in the wild these days. Maybe if we went around on our hands and knees for the last five months things wouldn't hurt so much

derlor · 22/03/2007 19:19

foxy - thanks for your home birth story although i am wondering why you didn't take your 2 sons to nursery yourself - surely your dp was tired after being up all night with you!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! i read your post out to my dh and the colour was draining from his face as he thought i was considering a home birth - oh no way too messy me thinks i'll stick to the birthing pool at the hospital so someone else can clean up all the gloop!!

H&A my dd never ate olbas oil but she did have a good chew on a menthol plug-in sudafed refill. made her totally hyper she was convinced she was going to a party - we actually took her to A&E as per NHS24 advice cause essential oils in these products can cause a drop in blood pressure and result in shock - let us out after 4 hours so i imagine your dd is totally fine so no need to worry. Later chicks..

hollyandalice · 22/03/2007 19:34

Woah....sugar rush!!!

Thanks Daisy, I'll have a look at those belts. My dp would love that, he loves to take the piss out of me! I can just picture him now calling me a weightlifter! Hopefully a belt will hold me in enough to stop it getting any worse. I don't know how I would have run away from a lion! I think I would have just stood there and accepted my fate! The mw told me to take smaller steps and go down the stairs on my bottom! As if I don't feel stupid enough already!

My dd is fine, no after effects from the menthol pig out! She does smell lovely though!

foxybrown · 22/03/2007 19:45

Well, obviously derlor I was changing beds, washing towels, cooking DP a full breakfast .

I don't mean to brag about my 'wonderful home birth', and I hope no-one thinks I was, but it was a very positive experience and I had excellent support from my MVs in planning it.

Sorry to hear about your SPD Holly, its getting tough now, eh? Saying 'bye to heels.

But can I please brag about DS1s parents meeting? After DS2s report this morning, I'm so proud of my kids! My eyes filled with tears when they told me my kids are a credit to us.

At least you didn't pee yourself having sneezed Bumperlicious!

Daisybump · 22/03/2007 19:57

How many have you got Foxy? I'm struggling to think how I'll cope with two, when I can barely keep up with one! I would love a home birth but my experience with DS was just too awful for words so I'd rather be where there are doctors and aneisthetists (spelling ) on hand, although I'm determined that I will have minimum intervention this time around...i'm going to refuse induction no matter how long I go over my dates, unless there is a very sound medical reason for it.
i take it you'll be having another home boirth this time around?

foxybrown · 22/03/2007 20:09

Daisybump - I've got 2 boys and a girl, and another girl due. I'm very conscious that I've been exceptionally lucky with my pregnancies and births - its only this one which has caused me any anxiety, so I'm not complacent about it and I am nervous for that reason. Have a sense that my luck could run out, but its irrational and I'm trying to stay pretty positive about it. People think I'm mad with all these children. I just tell them I get 4 times unconditional love

Daisybump · 22/03/2007 20:16

I was one of four and loved our big busy family.....there was always something going on. I feel a bit sorry for my DS as he's been an only one up till now which can be quite lonely especially as most of our neighbours are either pensioners or their kids are ten plus and don't want a five year old hanging around. Of course a five year age gap will mean that he'll soon be fed up of his little sis hanging around, him!. I wouldn't mind trying for another really quickly after this one, but I'm 38 and with two mc before this little one, I don't know if i could cope with the emotional trauma....that and DH is talking about booking himself in for the snip as soon as this one is born [angry}grr
