No, adventure. Babies are all different shapes / sizes. (Did I mention my first's 99.8th centile head?!)

Ladies... Help required please... I want to do a little Babymoon box for DH to have while he's on Paternity Leave.

14 things so that he can open one everyday - not crazy expensive, more little indulgences and sentimental things - but what can I put in it?

I'm thinking...

  1. Wedding photo
  2. Little bottle of wine and a small round of cheese with biscuits
  3. Chocolate / sweets
  4. A letter to say thank you
  5. Voucher for a bucket of balls at the driving range
  6. Scan photo
  7. Daddy babygrow

That's as far as I've got so far... any ideas?

I'd love to put something 'from' the baby, but I want the box to be ready for him when we get home from hospital so no time for footprints etc

Perhaps something he can 'do' with the baby one to one also, but not sure what?

1004Rise · 13/04/2017 10:42

@jennymac31 ooooo that's a bit too exciting for a last day Shock hope baby stays put for a little longer

@MrsJW15 we have a Bugaboo Chameleon and I've read on a couple of random places on the internet that hanging a changing bag on the handle invalidates the warranty. Not from anywhere that I'd call a reliable source. Weird since their changing bag is shown as hanging on the handle, but I'd like to get the book out and double check before we buy anything just incase.

@Sipperskipper that doesn't sound like a fun place at any time! That's my concern about ending up on a postnatal ward, I usually listen to something to help me go to sleep, to block out all annoying noises! But I'd then be worried that I wouldn't hear baby. Confused

@teainbed that's a lot of babies!!! GrinHope you get good news on your numbers.

EsmesBees · 13/04/2017 10:45

Don't worry adventure. My DD has always been small generally but with a huge head. It was the same on the scans, when she was born, and now she's 2. I have to buy hats for 3-4 years.

Ok, think I will book in to the acupuncture and see if I need it (and try to stop feeling that all my time on mat leave is already being filled up).

What a cute idea raspberry. Amazed at your organisation skills. You can get kits to do at home where you set the baby's footprint in clay. Otherwise, there is not much you can do with a newborn. Another idea is vouchers for some new camera kit.

EsmesBees · 13/04/2017 10:48

Oh,, and another idea raspberry is a book called 'daddy is my hero' (or something similar). It's a sweet story all about how great dads are which my DD loves now, and your dh could read to the newborn.

1004Rise · 13/04/2017 10:52

@RasperryInAMelon what about an invitation from the baby to take her for a walk in the pram or something similar so he gets to spend some one on one time with her...

It's a lovely idea, can't believe you're that organised Grin

Badgerbird · 13/04/2017 11:06

Ok I've been away 24 hours... so much to catch up on! Think I'm only half way through so catch up more later x

newbie I love the New Boss comment Grin Hope you enjoy your first day mat leave.

mrsjw such sad sad news about your friends.

teaspoon sooty sweep & sue GrinGrin

rise not sure if there's anything here that cN help you...http://activebirthcentre.com/caesarean-birth/encouraging-breech-baby-turn/

raspberry sorry to hear you're not having a good time at the mo. I'm no expert ofcourse but I've been in twice so far for reduced movement, monitored and had growth scan and no ones mentioned anything about putting me in high risk catagory. Was she not moving much whilst you were monitored? I'm glad they are keeping an eye on you and that she's been wriggling around since. It's scary isn't it and these anterior placentas make it tricky Flowers
Oh and we have the same prob as a couple, DH doesn't sleep so well if I don't and he's recently decided that he sleeps much better when he can cuddle me which is hard through the pillow! Bless him :)

savagehk · 13/04/2017 11:18

rasperry are there baby massage classes near you? Sometimes the sure start centres do them. If so, a "voucher" for one of those maybe?

OP posts:
jennymac31 · 13/04/2017 11:40

Ante-natal class was good and BH appear to have stopped but have just got a bit of a constant mild cramping thing going on so am heading off to work to finish my last day.

Pretty sure my hospital doesn't have any private rooms and doubt dh will be allowed to stay after visiting hours, as he wasn't last time round. We're trying to work out what we'll do with dd when I do go into labour especially if it kicks off in the early hours. Still haven't come up with a plan of action but a few friends and family members have offered to lend a hand.

newbieho · 13/04/2017 11:41

@jennymac31 hope you are feeling a bit better

@RasperryInAMelon as girls said you are super trooper organised - I am amazed! Love the idea.

We are going to see the MLU this evening. I am scared by your postnatal ward storiesConfused but I am not sure if we can or would go for the private room.

lullaby23 · 13/04/2017 12:28

raspberry someone already mentioned baby massage I was going to suggest a little bottle of oil for him to do massage (you can probably find stuff online if there isn't a class nearby) Or a little book like this one www.amazon.co.uk/How-Works-Dad-Ladybirds-Grown-Ups/dp/0718184262/ref=sr_1_1?s=grocery&ie=UTF8&qid=1492081817&sr=8-1&keywords=Ladybird+book+dad&tag=mumsnetforum-21?

teainbed · 13/04/2017 12:53

@jennymac31 what are the options for childcare then? Hope that works out ok for you.

I'm in triage. Just in the waiting room so far. There's a lot of people here so I'm not anticipating being seen quickly! I have a book and magazine and phone and food so will just need to sit. Grin

1004Rise · 13/04/2017 13:14

@teainbed hope your sitting isn't too long, or at least it's peaceful enough that you get to enjoy your book FlowersBrew

I gave up, I can't live in black anymore! Ordered 2 maternity tops from ASOS sale (£5 & £6) and two full price nursing tops, not 100% convinced I'll need them but justified the full price knowing I could use them after baby has arrived. None of them are black!! Grin

PeachIcedT · 13/04/2017 13:20

Once again I can't keep up! Did wake in the night last night but tried keeping as still as I could to avoid waking very light-sleeping DH.

@jennymac31 hope all goes well for your last day and that you can stay comfortable despite the cramping.

@RasperryInAMelon you are very organised doing this project! I'm just not creative enough to do something like that.

@newbieho hope you enjoy the tour, I'm viewing next week.

Astonished at some of the private room costs! I think it's something like £200-250 here but not certain. Though I'll be slimming it in the 4 bed bays if I have to stay in as I'm sure there are plenty of distractions in the room anyway.

I have another two 4 day weeks at work, originally I booked then as annual leave but somewhat reluctantly cancelled next week, with the intention of cancelling the week after just before it starts. Part of me wishes I could just be off now.

newbieho · 13/04/2017 13:35

I have got a scan today for medical research purposes, glad to hear all is OK and baby looks fine. He weights c.a. 5Ibs15 which is not too bad.

@teainbed hope all goes well

@1004Rise I don't like wearing black either. I am not very accessorised person either and like making statements by wearing colours.

@PeachIcedT get some rest after work - Easter break is just around the corner.

1004Rise · 13/04/2017 13:54

@newbieho I usually do bright scarves and bright shoes to add colour as well but all my funky shoes have at least a 4inch heel and I had to ditch them at about 15 weeks Sad fed up feeling like I'm in mourning or something!! Wink

Adventuregame · 13/04/2017 14:05

Been told by consultant that baby's head is 3/5 engaged as in 3/5 into the pelvis.

teainbed · 13/04/2017 14:15

I'm in black most of the time too but like my colourful scarves as well!

Had CTG which was fine. The midwife is one that i know from the antenatal clinic appointments which is nice. She said 'if you had to stay in how would you feel about that?' but it's not her decision obviously. Just waiting to see the doctors. Fingers crossed!

Badgerbird · 13/04/2017 14:40

Eeek jenny!! Keep us posted. Hope you're last afternoon goes well :)

esmes I had acupuncture before and during pregnancy regularly upto 19 ish weeks. It's something I've been considering if I get uncomfortable near the end (sleep, back etc) or if things need a helping hand. Wish my NHS offered it! I'd say book it then you can always cancel if not wanted.

Voucher for baby massage, miniature gin and tonic or similar to wet baby's head, scan photo in frame raspberry?

rise Yay to no black tops!!! I'm also a bright scarves person and am in love with my turquoise poncho at the mo too!

teainbed fingers crossed for you. Really hoping all ok and you will be chilling at home this wknd!

What shall we do when we start having babies? Can we still pop on this thread or will it be a separate one or shall we wait till we've all popped before moving to postnatal thread so we can all keep up with eachother? It's been great being part of this group SmileStar

EsmesBees · 13/04/2017 15:01

Thanks badger that's exactly what I've decided to do. Had a chat to the acupuncturist earlier and she reckons it will help with my hip/back pain. So have one appt fairly soon and then two near and after my due date. She did say there was a small risk because of my negative blood type so I need to Google/check with midwife to understand a bit more about this before going.

Fingers crossed for you tea. Sounds like good news so far.

Don't worry too much about engagement adventure. My first was engaged for ages and didn't emerge til 10 days late (not at all bitter...)

Agree it's been a great group to be a part of and would be a shame to loose touch. The threads often do go a bit quiet once the babies start arriving.

Barnes79 · 13/04/2017 15:07

Badger As I'm one of the later EDD folk I'd love it if we could stay on antenatal threads until we've all delivered otherwise I fear I may get very lonely on here as my EDD draws nearer. Sad

teainbed · 13/04/2017 15:10

Well I'm now in a ward! Consultant was lovely. They cannot tell for definite if placenta is failing or test for it but have their suspicions due to reducing insulin requirements and frequent hypos. As I'm past 37 weeks and currently baby is fine they've suggested induction and I've agreed. I could probably have hung on a bit longer but I'm starting to feel concerned about the placenta issue and actually feel safer now in the hospital than at home. I've had two hypos this morning. I had a sweep done and she said she could probably break my waters but cervix is a bit long still and so it will probably be easier to have a pessary overnight and see where that takes us. Ironically after the ward chat it's very quiet here currently and there's only one other lady in a 4 bedded bay!

Bethany0903 · 13/04/2017 15:11

Hi, hope you don't mind me joining due May 22nd having a pretty rubbish pregnancy and not many people to talk to! Be nice to talk to other mums to be Smile

Sipperskipper · 13/04/2017 15:17

Oh teainbed hope you are feeling ok. Certainly sounds like the safest course of action if there are concerns over placenta. Hope ward remains calm and quiet! Keep us all posted.

newbieho · 13/04/2017 15:23

@teainbed keeping the fingers crossed for you. Glad you're being taken care of and monitored Star
