@nursebickypegs love the baby clothes -so colourful!

newbieho · 11/04/2017 21:23

@teainbed hope the sugar level will get better and there won't be a need for induction - fingers crossed Star

newbieho · 11/04/2017 21:26

@Sipperskipper I can imagine how stressful that is. Can't really advise much but sending my thoughts. I am going for a scan on Thursday and expect the baby to be big (that is what I have been told so far). I still hope for MLU birth in the pool - fingers crossed!

Teaspoon74 · 11/04/2017 21:44

McBaby hope the BH and pains go soon. Am getting the shit kicked out of me ATM and can sympathise with discomfort!

Sipper are they advising or telling? If I've learned one thing from MN it's that scan weight predictions can be way off!!

Nurse hugs! When's he back? And love the Boots baby grows. Am defo going to check them out!! Was it just a standard Boots or a special one?

Cox what a thoughtless gobby colleague you have!! Are you close? If so, can you tell her that she's upset you. And if not, can you tell her you've checked with a GP and she knows nothing (and should keep her mouth shut and n we speak to a pregnant lady ever again)? Hate that people think it's fine to scarent! Some seem to get a kick out of distressing mums to be. Why would they want to do that?!?
*
Tea* sorry that you've got added stress, but you strike me as a sorted, centred sort of person. You know that if the advice is do it sooner rather than later for the safety of you and bubs then

Walker what was your given start date? I had my 34wk scan last week on basis of 12/8 start and EDD of 16/5 (though being induced so working to around 4/5 as actual expected DD). If your DD is 2wks back from my EDD does that not make you 33wks this week?

& thanks from me too for the birth plan examples. Really really helpful to get me thinking about what I actually want and don't want!

RasperryInAMelon · 11/04/2017 22:10

What a chatty day!

I need to sit down and do my birth plan next week... got to see my usual MW today and she took swabs for MRSA today but other than that she's happy with everything, little bean has turned and all is on track to stay low risk and be put forward for the Birthing Centre which I'm super happy about 😊

DH will be coming to that appointment so we both know what's going on.

Welcome @Walkerbean16 👋🏻

@coxsorangepippin ignore her. As long as you're feeling well and bub is wriggling away, that's all that matters. You know your body best!

@Badgerbird who are you doing the Market Research for? Sounds interesting!

@ClaireSunflower we get hiccups a good few times a day here. MW didn't seem concerned though. Do let me know what yours says though please

stationaryace · 11/04/2017 22:13

Turned up to my 35 week appointment today to be told by the MW "oh I don't know why you're here" Hmm. Thanks, it might be to do with this beach ball.... Hmm Didn't realise when I asked to push my appointment back a day that I'd get a different MW and this one wasn't good. Started off with a scribbled note (which she had written) about my urine tests that she couldn't decipher and faffed around with for ages before decing it was fine. She then asked if I was doing the NHS antenatal classes and said that we would cover writing the birth plans in class. When I turned up to the class 2 hours later we were told that our MW would be doing them at 34 weeks.... okay.... Luckily as a second time mum I know what I'm doing and what to put in, but I hope they pay more attention to the first timers. Next appointment is supposed to be 2-3 weeks but due to the May bank holiday it's going to be more like 4. There's a good chance I could drop before seeing anyone else.

In antenatal class today we covered Alternative Labour and inductions (I'm in Scotland). Last time they didn't induce until 40+12 but a recent study into stillbirths has led to our trust changing this to 40+7. However there is a baby boom going on up here at the moment so realistically they aren't taking anyone in before 40+10 unless it's an emergency as there's no beds. It actually was a useful session in terms of information - not sure if it was different to my classes last time or I'm a bit more clued up this time around but I felt like I learned something.

DH isn't cutting the cord - he doesn't want to sever the link between mother and child, his words - but we've just agreed on getting a cord tie instead of using the hospital ones. Turns out I'm quite a hippy mum when it comes down to it.

yellowismyfavourite · 11/04/2017 22:23

tea fingers crossed for your insulin levels for the weekend sipper that sounds stressful especially when scans are estimates at best. Our labour ward has one room with a birthing pool... maybe yours does too? raspberry glad baby has turned.

Felt like baby slammed it's head into my cervix tonight... so much more painful than the punches felt previously. Hoping that means it's becoming more engaged

WishIWasSleeping · 11/04/2017 22:33

1004 - I was induced with DD. Pessary and then drip to bring on contractions. (39+4) I laboured faster than they thought I would, and only rcvd a dr in attendance when I demanded asked in a nice quiet calm voice for one. I think one of the best bits about the drip was that they had to finish the bag of fluid even though I had delivered. So we all got to stay together for about 3-4 hours after delivery, which DH could have been sent home for had I been moved back to the ward due to visiting times. I am requesting induction this time due to baby's predicted weight to try and avoid CS by having a later and heavier baby due to no ongoing support available at home afterwards. (DH can't take up to 6 weeks off)

Cox - Utter tripe from your colleague. I'm working up to 38wks and I'm being monitored weekly for PE. I'm knackered, but work alone doesn't contribute to it. As long as you don't overdo it (you know your own limits) and know the symptoms to look out for all will be ok. I was at risk with DD too, and found my blood pressure and swelling got worse only when I'd finished work!

Skipper - I'm glad it's not just me wondering how I can grow a baby at those predicted sizes! - I had to have continual monitoring of DD due to high blood pressure, the stupid bands kept slipping and annoyed me with the continued repositioning that I told the mw to leave me alone with some sweary words. They then popped a little monitor on the head whilst I was beginning to push. Much better!

Teaspoon74 · 11/04/2017 22:35

Congrats on the turn Rasperry! Smile

savagehk · 11/04/2017 22:36

What peas said! Also re the 'are they advising or telling' question, in my experience they "tell" quite a lot but it's actually all only "advice" as you'll find if you push back. I wish it wasn't like that though as I'm sure lots of women agree to things thinking they are necessary when they aren't Angry

I've got an extra appointment next week with consultant to sign off my hb, it seems someone has decided now is the time to fuss about something from last delivery.... On the bright side i can make it clear i will not be transferring in unless there is a valid medical reason at the time, not just that I'm suddenly "high risk" because I've tripped over some check box somewhere.

Badgerbird · 11/04/2017 22:37

Thanks savage their website is much clearer than others I've looked at!

teainbed no wonder you felt flustered! I think anyone would. I hope the adjustments help and you get to hold onto bub a bit longer.

nurseb ordering you a pizza is sooooo sweet!!

nurseb so far I've been classed as low risk. First child and 39 yrs old. I guess it's to do with bp, diabetes, bmi, other risks etc..

Glad babies turned raspberry!! Turns out it was for Next new maternity collection..

What's a cord tie stationary?

sipper it does sound like they are jumping the gun somewhat. How stressful and frustrating for you Flowers

1004Rise · 11/04/2017 22:40

@RasperryInAMelon glad she's turned Grin now to get her to stay!

@teainbed fingers crossed it goes to plan and sorts itself out so you're able to carry on but equally it's good that they're keeping an eye on you Flowers

@Sipperskipper I think time to digest the information they're giving you and getting a copy of that form so you at least know what you'd be signing so you have all the information to help you make a decision is the best way to go. While I could understand them not wanting a home birth, a MLU with a 2 minute transfer time to labour ward would surely be acceptable if all they're concerned about is size. I don't think we grow babies that are too big for us to deliver, I can see we might grow babies that get too big to turn into the right position but that's different. AND like we keep saying even scans are only 80% accurate on size... that's a big difference. Rant away Flowers

I spent the last 20 minutes before getting in bed upside down in various positions to try to get this baby to go the right way, I'm now getting seriously kicked for my trouble!!! Confused

newbieho · 11/04/2017 22:40

@RasperryInAMelon good news on baby's turning Smile

WishIWasSleeping · 11/04/2017 22:41

www.facebook.com/BBCFamilyNews/videos/1410192012377195/

I am not considering this, I think there's enough to do looking after a new born, but is anyone else?! It sounds a lot of work and faff!

coxsorangepippin · 11/04/2017 22:49

Thanks all for cheering me up Smile

raspberry glad about the turn! I feel mine has wiggled back to back so hoping that shifts again.

RasperryInAMelon · 11/04/2017 22:54

@yellowismyfavourite we have 4 birthing pools at QE so I should be able to get one hopefully 🤞🏻

@WishIWasSleeping I saw this earlier and IMO and as my words to DH 'what a bloody faff' - what happens in the night?? Seems like a massive pain in the arse to me

1004Rise · 11/04/2017 22:55

@WishIWasSleeping that's insane! Surely you'd spent 90% of the day hovering over the potty Hmm

stationaryace · 11/04/2017 23:16

badger I just copied this from a shop blurb as it explains it better than I can just now, but basically an alternative to the plastic clamps. cord ties are a beautiful, comfortable and unique alternative to the bulky, plastic umbilical cord clamps usually used after childbirth. They are much softer on your babies skin, less likely to get caught on nappies and clothing, much more comfortable when breastfeeding and let's face it, are altogether more aesthetically pleasing!!

The geek in me really wants to go for the Tardis one Grin

My DD is very hands on just now and my thinking is that having something flatter like this will reduce the likelihood of it being caught on anything or accidentally pulled before it falls off.

stationaryace · 11/04/2017 23:18

wish - no way! I'm dreading my 2 year old potty training, never mind this faff with elimination communication. Yeah, turns out my inner hippy has limits...

beanturnipandspud · 11/04/2017 23:23

tea I hope you are ok. It can be very frightening when things happen really quick. I remember the same happening with Turnip when I had to have a cervical stitch so I didn't lose her. Took a while for me to Come to terms with her pregnancy.
Make sure you rest up for the rest of the week 😊

cox 😳 at your colleague! I've had similar comments, I work for a French company and the French men have zero tact! 😩 one reason why I worked from home today 😊

fox and badger I am planning on birthing in the kitchen. It is a kitchen diner and has everything I need and want. This is in both houses. We still haven't received confirmation of a completion date for the move so we are making birth plans for both 👍🏼
I bought a la bassine pool from an ex work colleague for £50 😊 she had laboured in it but not actually given birth. I just need to purchase a liner.

sipper please don't worry too much about the size of baby (I know easier said than done) but they are not an exact science.

clairesunflower spud has hiccups all the time as did turnip. She had them as a newborn often also. I mentioned to my mw last week just in case and she said that it was normal.

stationary we too are going for cord ties. I am going to make it I think. And possibly get Turnip to help too 😊

On cutting the cord, DH cut bean & turnips this time turnip wants to cut spuds. (She brought it up herself and told us that she wanted to help make the baby's belly button) I mentioned to my mw last week and she is all for it.

Labour & birth bring out my inner hippy but day to day parenting I am far from it 😂

Although I have attached tonight creations for turnips new rainbow bedroom 🌈🌈🌈

I'll be trying something similar (not watched the video mind), it's not onerous you just hold baby over toilet whenever you change nappy. We would have tried first time but turned out first was a boy and I was worried he'd wee everywhere. Less bothered about that this time and doubt he would have in hindsight...

Worth noting we popped him in the potty every nappy change from when he could sit up on his own easily - about 7 months (not religiously, if we were in holiday or out etc we didn't) and I think if we'd persevered he might have been potty trained by 1 with very little fuss. (As it happened we went away for a longish holiday without the potty and he stared walking then too, which meant it was far too exciting to sit still!)

@teainbed I am indeed 33 weeks this week but i dont have a 32 week appointment they had this booked in as my 34 week appointment then mu next one is in two weeks at 35 weeks, no idea why though?!

Thanks for the welcomes, i have posted before a few threads ago but feel at the very back of the bus!! Feel cheeky being on here as I'm not due until June the 1st but the june board is so so quiet, its nice reading what you are all up to.

I have got nothing ready, a few clothes and bits and bobs, i ordered my pram (wayfarer chelsea same as raspberry) but i paid in full in store on the 8th of March and have hears nothing back since!!! I have phoned a few times and keep getting told its back in stock on this date, you will get it then, then nothing more from then until the date passes and i call them again, its so frustrating!! Was last told it would be here on the 8th and had no emails or calls so i rung up and its apparently out of stock until the 21st of April. Hoping it gets here before baby! But their customer service has been appalling!!

RasperryInAMelon · 12/04/2017 03:44

@Walkerbean16 I ordered mine prior to Christmas because I knew that there would be stock level issues. It's been a very popular pushchair- fingers crossed for you

newbieho · 12/04/2017 06:09

Last working day today for me before the annual leave & mat leave commence 🎉 I'm planning to treat myself today - coffee and pastry on the way to work? Nice lunch? Shopping lunch break? Any other ideas?

teainbed · 12/04/2017 06:21

All of those things @newbieho and enjoy your last day!
