After hearing a couple of people complain about the lack of it, and then experiencing it myself, I thought I'd follow nomoremagnolia's suggestion and create an ante-natal thread just for us poor scared naive first-timers

Of course I'm not saying we shouldn't also be on the normal ante-natal club threads so we can learn from people with a bit more experience, but a little newbie club might be friendly and reassuring too?

So if this is your first baby and you're due Sept, Oct, Nov, Dec 07, please join me!

Please?!

We thought about a cotbed too. I haven't decided yet. What is putting me off is that we plan to have more children and someone said that if you have another child close to the first then you need to get them another cot or cotbed. Also they are much larger than cots and our house is tiny. Having said that some of the cotbeds are the same price as the cots which makes me think I might as well just get one.

Anyone else completely unable to make decisions since they became pregant!?

thelady · 21/07/2007 18:30

Not getting a cotbed for two very good reasons.... A friend is lending us her cot, and we're living the equivalent of a bedsit, so a cotbed will just take up too much space. I don't think we'll bother with a 'junior bed' either - straight from cot into full-size bed should be fine, and allows for visitors to use the spare bed if needed.

My kitchen staff (KP and waitress) have taken today off with bggr all notice - told us last night - so tonight is likely to be a bit on the frazzled side. Feet sore already

BeachBunni · 21/07/2007 22:13

OMG - decided to buy myself a top today to cheer myself up and noticed - shock, horror - the beginnings of some stretchmarks down the right side of my bump. Already have ones on my bum from my teens but was hoping I might get away without them if I slapped on enough cocoa butter and bio oil. But there they were - definate reddish marks appearing under the skin. Ended up more depressed than ever If they really are genetic then I'm screwed.

thelady · 21/07/2007 22:50

My sympathies on the stretchmarks. I have them on hips and boobs from when they grew, and seeing as the last time I wore a bikini I was 16, I'm not going to stress overly.

I suspect that a large part of the stretch-mark risk is down to the nature of your skin, and that the various lotions and potions make you feel better (and less itchy) but won't make all that much difference to the final map!

Imawurzel · 22/07/2007 13:12

Afternoon all.
I havent noticed any extra stretchmarks yet.I do have some from years ago when i was bigger and slimmed down.So leftovers.
I was thinking about a cotbed but not sure how long it'll be before more babies come along.
A friend has just had her baby and will be out of moses basket type thing by the time mine comes along so i shall hopefully be having that .

fleacircus · 23/07/2007 11:27

Stefka - I've got a yoga DVD which is ok for doing at home although a bit space cadetty. Can't remember what it's called but if you put 'yoga' and 'pregnancy' into Amazon it should come up with something. Cheaper than classes anyway!

Glad you're in a good mood MrsWizz, me too, have six weeks off work and DP took me shopping and treated me to loads of lovely maternity clothes yesterday. Getting stretch marks already but don't really care - have never been one for exposing much flesh really!

Midwife appt this afternoon, looking forward to it.

Stefka · 25/07/2007 20:03

I hadn't thought of that - a DVD would sort me out

Stefka · 25/07/2007 20:05

Anyone else getting pains in their legs by the way? I have an awful pain in my right leg just below the knee which is driving me insane.

I don't have pains in my legs but i do have a constant pain in my buttock {smile] It's not all the time. but it's right inside the cheek. Can ache like mad for few hours. Not felt that since last friday now.

suey2 · 26/07/2007 07:53

imawurzel- make sure you are not crossing your legs- sound like your SIJ is tightening up

thelady · 26/07/2007 08:27

Stefka: please make sure that you see someone about that pain if it's in your calf. Thrombosis is a known side-effect of pregnancy, and shows up as severe pain with/without swelling, heat and tenderness to the touch.

I don't mean to freak you out, but it's definitely worth getting it seen to!

Stefka · 26/07/2007 10:03

Thanks - I didn't know that. I made an appointment with the dr. I hate going to the Dr as I always feel I am making a fuss over nothing. They were quite funny with me on the phone for asking to be seen today. Trouble is if I don't get seen today I won't be able to get an appointment for over a week. Ah well hopefully the Dr will be nice!

fleacircus · 26/07/2007 11:44

I feel like that too about the dr - always think they think I'm wasting their time. But DP and my mother both insist that they earn a fortune so you might as well make them work for it!

Stefka · 26/07/2007 13:01

Good point! He was fine - didn't think it was anything to worry about but if it gets worse or swells I should go back. Better safe than sorry though and it stops me worrying about it. Shame it doesn't stop the pain though - I bought a cold compress to see if that will help.

fleacircus · 26/07/2007 15:14

Glad you're ok. Also meant to say hello Suey2!

Going on holiday tomorrow, very excited. Going to the Lake District where it will probably rain on us for the whole two weeks; don't care though, am an old woman and will enjoy knitting and doing jigsaw puzzles and drinking cocoa. Premature ageing definitely has its advantages! Anyone else off anywhere?

Imawurzel · 26/07/2007 19:09

Thanks suey2, i dont cross my legs often, but now i will remember not too.
Has anyone got any 'achey' feelings in their lower tummy? Just above bikini line?? I have. Does that mean that stuff is just moving and growing in there??
It feels like a stitch, but in the middle, or like if you've been holding on for a wee cos' no toilets around or whatever and when you finally go your bladder is aching.
Is this normal?
I'm not seeing anyone until 15th Aug, my 20wk scan. Then mw on the 20th.

fleacircus · 26/07/2007 21:25

I'm 18+5wks, have been getting sharp stretchy pains on either side of my lower abdomen; I had similar pains during the first 8wks and am assuming it's just ligaments and stuff shifting around.

Imawurzel · 27/07/2007 06:52

Sounds like nothing to worry about then.
Did wonder.

GoodGollyMissMolly · 27/07/2007 12:20

Hi all, I have only just found this thread, I am due 12 nov.

How are you all getting on?

revelyell · 28/07/2007 21:27

oh crap, i cant keep up with this thread as am too addicted to childbirth announcements!

welcome goodgollymissmolly stefka and whoever else joined lately!

Stefka- i am interested in the hypnobirthing thing too and i am just reading the book by Marie Mongan, who i think pioneered the whole thing. as far as I can tell, its all about your mindset, and the book will do that. bet you could find the relaxation CDs on the net somewhere too.

FCH- I saw your post on carseats. dunno if you've sorted it yet, but ill put my tuppence in. im a north londoner and we're planning to use 'whizzgo' who park their cars at the end of our road. after a LOT of research and talking (god its ridiculous isnt it) we are pretty sure we're going for teh Jane slalom pro pram with a matrix cup carseat or the carrycot which also works as a carseat. the cool thing about that IMO is that the carrycot and the carseat fix straight onto the chassis and also lie flat in the car without needing too many fixings, so all you need to do is wheel your bambino to the car and lift the whole shebang off the chassis and onto the seat. no hauling carseat as well as pram around to the nearest hire car. plus the lie flat thing looks a lot healthier and comfier for a young baby than the sitting up ones..

revelyell · 28/07/2007 21:28

oops. when i said FCH i meant fleacircus of course!

FCH · 31/07/2007 10:15

Hello all.

Glad to hear I am not the only one with random aches and pains. I keep randomly waking up with aches / shooting pains all over the place, but not usually in the same place except having aches by my kidneys most mornings. I think this is because however many times I go to sleep on my side I wake up on my back and I just don't seem to be able to do anything about it. I am also feeling really ungainly. It came as a shock last week just how difficult it was to paint my toenails!! Oh well!

Glad to hear you are all doing well though. Mrs Wizz - brilliant news on all the free stuff we don't know anyone giving away baby stuff as DH's brother's first is due this week and everyone has given it all to them so we are having to buy it all new. On the bright side at least I can have it all matching I suppose...

Mrswizz · 01/08/2007 11:38

FCH, I've been waking up with uncomfortable legs and I get cramp no matter how many bananas I eat so I feel for you and your random aches. I've bought one of those 5ft maternity support cushions today on the internet to see if it helps keep me in a good position when sleeping. My bump, or perhaps I should say the wee man is growing by the minute so I'm sure its not a moment too soon. Will let you know if it works.

revelyell · 01/08/2007 13:42

hi mrsswizz... are you stretching your calf muscles out every day? every morning i wake up with calves feeling like they are close to cramping but they dont, and that might only be because i am stretching them the way they showed me in yoga... sorry if you already are but just in case anyone else on the board can benefit-
just face a wall, standing one step away from it... put your arms on the wall, crossed and lean your forehead on your arms, then take one step back on one leg and just stretch out the back of the leg, trying to get your heel touching the ground. do the same with the other one! totally obvious i know but it really does work!
