#TTC1 - Second Wave grads thread the Second!

Hello all! Welcome to the second thread for the 'new wave' of grads from #TTC1 - the first wave ladies seem to have decamped en masse to Facebook now (I heard weaning mentioned last time I ventured onto it) so this is now officially the place to be!

We're pretty spread out over the pregnancy journey so far with some newbies and some about to pop Grin I'll try to maintain a list so if anybody wants to leave details of due dates and whether you're Team Blue, Pink or Vanilla (I think we're pretty heavily skewed towards Pink at the moment) then leave your details and I'll amalgamate them!

As Moose mentioned in our last thread, please do feel free to join in if this is your first time walking this weird and wonderful path - there is no such thing as TMI and we're all learning off each other!

kav I can say, without fear, epidurals are WONDERFUL. I didn't feel anything other than a bit plastic rustling while it was sited, and the relief was instantaneous and incredible. If you can labour in water prior, I found it very soothing.

(My absolute no-go was forceps, one doctor tried to push it slightly and my DM was there to say "ABSOLUTELY NOT". He was stuck and in a funny presentation as it was so forceps were never an option and I ended up having a section and it really wasn't bad at all, not frightening, scary, I felt in control etc.)

Enjoy maternity leave star take the opportunity to get sorted, but put your feet up and relax as much as possible!

Glittery I had an anterior placenta, could only feel tiny pokes/popcorn pops but it was when he was ads bout 23/24 weeks that I could see kicks. He then spent the next however many weeks doing judo chops and flying rib kicks!

music I took the isotonic stuff and my MW came in after a few hours, saw me drinking it and said "do you want some of the good stuff?" It was much nicer, but I was sick a lot and the isotonic stuff wasnt as pleasant on the return journey. I bloody loved packing /repacking my hospital bag. It's so exciting to do!

OhOurBilly · 29/07/2017 11:20

marmitecheesetoast I can fully reccomended those bibs, they're excellent and all soft and lovely. We have at least 40 I have a problem if she's teething, dentinox. It's awesome, it numbs the area are and stops them hurting. Also calpol with ibuprofen (although it's 3 months +, how old is toast soldier now?) Ibuprofen works better for teething pains as it takes the swelling down on their little gums. Having said that, we've not suffered badly, he cut his first two this last few weeks without too much issue. I was amazed! He's got a cold though now and leap 6 is trying to kill me. (Don't know if you're a fan of "the wonder weeks" )

OhOurBilly · 29/07/2017 11:25

Frugi sale is also on. The sizing is generous! L's still comfortably wearing the long sleeve coloured vests, and they're 3-6...He's 20 lb, on the 75th centile and 8 months. So they're dear, but you definitely get your money worth!

Miranda234 · 29/07/2017 12:10

Hi ladies,

Thinking of you all coming up to your due dates, exciting times ahead Smile

We've just come back from a weeks holiday which was lovely, although we ended up climbing a mountain which I didn't think I'd be doing at 23 weeks pregnant! Is anyone else's baby constantly on the go? Baby girl does not stop moving and I'm a bit worried about what it'll be like as she grows!!

Hope everyone's doing ok and having a lovely weekend Smile

Scandalicity · 29/07/2017 13:09

How exciting kav!! Glad you are open minded re pain meds, etc, hopefully all goes as smoothly as possible for you Grin

Hope your scan goes well glittery, sorry, I can't remember, are you planning on finding out the sex? Am also at the too many cakes stage, though 9 weeks behind you Blush however I have lost 2kg since booking in 3 weeks ago!

Your BBQ sounds lovely music, hope the rain holds off for you!!

Miranda props to you for doing that at 23 weeks, even if on holiday!!!

Hope you manage to get some well deserved rest on your mat leave now star! Have you got everything ready?

MissyJones80s · 29/07/2017 16:58

Wow so much to catch up on!
kav all the best for this coming week...I'll be checking in to see the progress.
star enjoy maternity leave before the big day, time for some serious r&r!
glittery and scandal I've also reached the too many cakes stage, literally today...walked past shop window and looked at reflection and I was like so there it is! Bought a couple of pairs of maternity jeans from H&M they are fab and mean I don't have to keep unbuttoning my trousers all the time.
Wow just sneezed and omg it hurt down there, think round ligament pain ...ouchee!!

kavanaughkj · 29/07/2017 17:42

Thanks for the well wishes ladies, you're such a comforting lot! I'll be reporting back here first moment I can :)

Enjoy mat leave Starmist! I had intended to do more on mine but with my back flaring up I've needed to rest, though DH and I did go blackberry picking earlier to make crumble with :)

Frugi sale?? Oooo. I have a onesie from them already for baby Kav and I'd heard they ran large, which is great as baby Kav is likely to be big and also after the initial few weeks I'm hoping to cloth bum. Which needs a bit more room - I have some teddy nappies that will be very bulky but absolutely adorable and give junior a big fluffy bottom! Grin

Good luck to MrsG and Wanting ! So hard to believe we're all imminent, where have the last nine months gone?!

Miranda my baby is very wriggly & active. I really like the constant movement as it's lovely to have the reassurance he's ok. I do worry we might have our hands full when he's born though! I'm 35+4 now & getting kicked in the ribs is quite common which can be uncomfortable.

Scandal we're fairly ready. Still got some clothes to wash & a few bits to buy. I want to get some serious cleaning done & those jobs I've been meaning to do for ages but never get round to. I'm looking forward to doing a little job each day & having a rest too. My mums very excited as she wants to take me out for lunch a lot!

Missy I love maternity trousers. My maternity jeans are too tight now so I'm always in my leggings.

Kav the time has flown hasn't it?! Can't believe it. Ooh blackberry crumble sounds tasty, hope you enjoy it!

WantingBaby1 · 29/07/2017 18:18

Sorry to hear of the GD kav, glad they've picked it up though. Very exciting that you'll be meeting your baby next week though! Just goes to show however much we plan we can't really "plan" at all.

Sounds like a very active holiday miranda! Glad you had fun. My baby is a wriggly one too, getting quite uncomfortable now as she's getting big!

Hope you have a lovely bbq music

Good luck with the scan glittery

10 days until due date, not that that means anything! Baby will come when she's ready. I just really hope it's soon! Judging from our last scan she'd be around 7lb 12ish now, a good size for a birth-day!

Mrsbluebell17 · 30/07/2017 01:08

Hey 👋🏼 Starmist. I'm good thanks. Had 20
Week scan recently but We have to get a second appointment for our scan as the baby was at a funny angle so they couldn't get all required checks completed. . Fun and games.
Just started feeling movement recently and I love it although baby has gone quiet for the last few days which bothers me!

FXSkip · 30/07/2017 06:13

mrsbluebell its normal for baby to be quiet when you're moving around, a cold drink of juice and a sit down is often enough to get them wriggling again, but obvs call EPU if you're in any way worried. I bought a little Doppler off amazon that I used around your stage, until I felt reassured that it's normal to have a few days of feeling very little/no movement until later in the pg. the Doppler broke after about 6 weeks, but amazon let us return it which was really great!
kav I can't believe you're meeting your bubba next week!!! I'm still hoping to go naturally about 2 weeks early, I'm sure that won't happen though lol! In other news my cat has stopped climbing all over me at night and started sleeping on the changing mat but I don't have the heart to tell him off because a. I'm a massive softie and can't ever discipline him, b. I'm enjoying not being wriggled on by two tiny creatures at night and c. It's still in its plastic wrapper. That's of right? I'm confident that he'll be terrified of the baby so I'm not worried about him jumping up when there's a baby there.
I still can't believe we're talking about having actual babies to be honest, I dug out my old opk stash when I was clearing out the bathroom and got weirdly nostalgic!!

marmitecheesetoast · 30/07/2017 08:34

Thanks Billy! Yes the wee toast solider has just turned 3 months, can you believe it!? - I can't! She's got such a personality now, so chatty and socialable!

Ah Star I loved doing all the baby washing on my mat leave, so cite seeing all the teeny things hanging on the line! V satisfying too!

Ha Skip I came across my stash of opks and ICs in a drawer in the bathroom the other month and felt nostalgic too!

Hope everyone is having a good weekend. We've had our first non-family overnight visitors this weekend and worked out surprisingly ok. Baby marmite gave us an easy ride last night! Grin

marmitecheesetoast · 30/07/2017 17:56

Also meant to say Billy yes we are on wonder weeks and are just starting the dreaded and very long fourth leap! Leap 6 sounds fun...! Aw, two teeth! Hope the poor wee man feels better soon! X

Starmist · 30/07/2017 19:10

So we've booked to go to a baby first aid course on Thursday which I thought was very sensible & we both feel it will give us some confidence. MIL rolled her eyes, said why on earth do you need to do that, its obvious what to do. Ugh that woman does my head in. Doesn't matter what we say / do she likes to moan about it.

Starmist · 30/07/2017 21:04

Oh I tell you something else delightful she said. She asked how much weight I'd put on (bit rude). I said a stone & a half, must be more now.
She said oh that'll be such a lot to lose.
Yeah thanks just what I want to hear!
I said well hopefully baby is quite a lot of that. DH piped up with there should be a lot of water too.
She said oh you haven't got much water.
I said errr how do you know?!
She said cuz ur bump is so solid.
I said it's meant to be solid at this stage, it's cuz there's no space left in there.
Why does she think she's such an expert on everything?!
Sorry for moaning, she just does my head in.

OhOurBilly · 30/07/2017 21:19

She sounds like a knob star . I weighed myself about ten minutes before I went into labour. I'd put on nearly 4 stone. I'd lost 3.5 stone by the time he was 8 weeks, with zero effort. Literally, none. It was all water, and a massive placena, and a nearly 9lb human! Fuck her and her noise, you are glorious, majestic and magnificent! 👑👑👑

Starmist · 30/07/2017 21:44

Thanks Billy that made me laugh!

kavanaughkj · 30/07/2017 23:27

That's comforting to hear Billy - I've put on around 4 stone as well. Bump is very tight now but my legs are smushed full of excess water!

Starmist - such a good idea doing the first aid course. My DH and I did one run by a local police/paramedics force which was fab, and there's a really good Red Cross app for both babies and children's first aid which you should download. :)

OP posts:
Starmist · 31/07/2017 06:37

Kav thanks, good to hear it was worthwhile doing a course. Yes I heard about that app & have downloaded it, it looks really good Smile

Musicgrrl · 31/07/2017 08:22

star i don't think it's related to it being maternity leave necessarily but I just get really restless being at home by myself for days on end. I am useless at motivating and entertaining myself. Know I will need these skills though so trying to set myself daily goals! Also I kind of feel as though I'm waiting for Christmas but I don't actually know when Christmas will be which is a weird feeling (if you see what I mean!). I should probably just assume it's the date I'll be induced if I stay pregnant that long! Great that you have lots of things to be getting on with while you wait. We also did a first aid course and I found it very reassuring although think I will need to revise it all soon to keep it in my memory!

marmite and billy think I'll just take a couple of bottles of lucozade in with me then just in case and assume that if things get really desperate the midwives will have an alternative on hand!

miranda lovely to hear that baby is so active. I think around that time I still had active days and quiet days which messed with my kind a bit!

scandal how many weeks are you now? My too many cakes stage lasted for soooo long before I got a proper bump!

missy I also loved my h&m maternity jeans. Sadly they stopped fitting properly at around 35 weeks so I'm in leggings and yoga pants now! (Sounds like same as you star!)

Sending this before I lose it but got a bit more to catch up on.

WantingBaby1 · 31/07/2017 08:57

star MiL sounds ridiculous! Try not to let her bother you. Mine came over the other day and before even saying hello told me the flower bed needed weeding. Charming!

I've got the first aid app too. Looks good.

music it's so frustrating not knowing when baby will make an appearance isn't it? I'm 38+5 today, so just over a week until due date. They induce at 41+6 here...really hope I don't have to be induced. 23rd seems so long away!

WantingBaby1 · 31/07/2017 09:07

RE weight, I've put on 40lb, so a fraction off 3 stone. Feel so heavy and bump feels so uncomfortably tight. It's mainly gone on my bump but my hands and legs and feel are also water bloated. Such a sexy look Wink

1.5 stone doesn't seem much at all star, ignore MiL!

MrsG280516 · 31/07/2017 11:35

I'm still here and pregnant too, 39+1 today. The last few days we've walked the dog for an hour on quite hilly routes, DTD to try and start things off, had a spicy curry etc... just a waiting game now and I'm not very patient!

MissyJones80s · 31/07/2017 12:07

Ahh mrsg Id be so impatient too!!! Let's hope the curry and the DTD helps you along.

WantingBaby1 · 31/07/2017 13:17

Im not patient either mrs! I've been bouncing on the birth ball, taking the raspberry leaf tablets and had an attempted dtd but Braxton hicks and my enormous bump got in the way of that! Hopefully something starts happening this week.
