#TTC1 - Second Wave grads thread the Second!

kavanaughkj · 30/03/2017 16:06

Hello all! Welcome to the second thread for the 'new wave' of grads from #TTC1 - the first wave ladies seem to have decamped en masse to Facebook now (I heard weaning mentioned last time I ventured onto it) so this is now officially the place to be!

We're pretty spread out over the pregnancy journey so far with some newbies and some about to pop Grin I'll try to maintain a list so if anybody wants to leave details of due dates and whether you're Team Blue, Pink or Vanilla (I think we're pretty heavily skewed towards Pink at the moment) then leave your details and I'll amalgamate them!

As Moose mentioned in our last thread, please do feel free to join in if this is your first time walking this weird and wonderful path - there is no such thing as TMI and we're all learning off each other!

Hi all

moose hope things happen for you soon fx! You must be very comfortable!!!

My boob soreness returned. Also loads of spots on my face yay. No nausea yet but have this like 'chunky' (I know rank) feeling in my lower throat...I kind of get that feeling when I'm hung over. Niiiice. Friend gave birth on Sunday they have a gorgeous son so cute. Got my first appointment next week with midwife eek.

On the boob thing my bras are feeling a little snug but as I'm still quite early don't want to go out and buy new bras in case 'things change' also don't want to buy new bras and then have to buy more bras a few more weeks down the line...maybe no bra lol probs not best

Poppet8583 · 07/06/2017 10:39

Hi everyone! Just thought I'd say hello as I haven't been on the thread for ages! Huge congratulations to all the new mummies, I hope you're all doing well.

I'm almost 21 weeks now, had my scan and all looking good. We're not finding out what we are having so will be on Team Yellow (or is it Vanilla?)

I hope everyone is ok and enjoying their pregnancies, I'll try and be a bit more active on the thread from now on! x

Carley27 · 07/06/2017 11:54

Must be getting very real if that's you finishing work this week Seahawk :) The mice situation sounds annoying but at least the nest isn't in your flat!

Bluebell I'm sleeping fine at the moment but thinking of getting a pillow for later on so good to hear feedback on them!

Hope you're not kept waiting too long Moose, how exciting! Grin

Missy I'm still suffering with spots Angry although it has improved so there is hope! Good luck for your first appointment!

Nothing to report here really, still a week to go until our dating scan.

kavanaughkj · 09/06/2017 23:00

Heya ladies - it's quiet in here! I'll post properly over the weekend, still on holiday in Cornwall and loving the rest and relaxation. Baby definitely struggling to find room now and it's a fair bit harder walking anywhere- I'm mega slow these days - but have explored a lot this last week and done a ton of walking, which has kept my inflated ankles down :) hoping to hear good news from Moose soon!

I was just thinking that kav - how far along are you now? 31 weeks? are you the next baby due?! I've got a cold so I feel like I literally cannot stand up without my heart pounding and my head spinning. Hoping this goes away so I can get back to normal before I get really big!! I also find I need to move or my feet swell up. Made the mistake of wearing a dress and going for a walk after work and OMG the chafe - wtaf?? I'd heard it was a pregnancy thing but holy moly Sad

Currently listening to Rachel Brathens podcast on vaccinations - anyone listened/done research they would share? I'm struggling to make decisions!

glitteryvibes · 10/06/2017 13:24

Vaccines- I am very pro vaccination. There are no strong studies so suggest any link with poor long term health. Any studies that make any links -with asthma/hay fever/allergies/learning difficulties/autism and anything else people have tried to link are very weak in terms of evidence and are all funded by anti vax movements that actually show significant bias is thingns like data selection, inclusion criteria and data interpretation.
Also on the off chance that there is a link between increased chances of hayfever and administration of childhood vaccinations I would take the hayfever over potentially deadly diseases any day.

Vaccines massively require herd immunity, which means at the moment if you don't vaccinate then there is a good chance your child won't get the disease (but they won't get it at all if you do vaccinate) but only because other people have vaccinated there children. If everyone did this then you would start to see outbreaks (like have occurred in places like wales over more recent years) and this also gives the viruses greater chance of evolving and mutuating and becoming even more deadly. For me you only need to look at all the images relating to polio outbreaks prior to vaccination to see how awful this can be.
Some kids can't be vaccinated (certain immune conditions/cancers etc) and they need everyone that can be vaccinated to be vaccinated for them to have the best chance of not getting the disease (which if they get carries an even greater risk of death/permenant disability) so by people not vaccinating kids that can have them I see this as quite selfish and potentially not only endangering the life of there child bit of those that cannot be vaccinated.

Anti vaccination scaremongering is realy only that, no evidence, no proof and potentially a death sentence.

Musicgrrl · 10/06/2017 14:34

I have to catch up on everything but just wanted to say - love this glittery, thank you for sharing! I am pro vaccination but don't have anything like that level of knowledge underpinning my view!

FXSkip · 10/06/2017 16:18

Thanks glittery for your point of view - do you have any evidence? I'm really struggling to find actual studies that aren't funded/biased one way or another so can't really trust either side! Also I get that people feel really strongly about it so it's hard to disassociate anecdotal evidence and opinions from fact.

glitteryvibes · 10/06/2017 17:58

pediatrics.aappublications.org/content/132/6/e1686.long?utm_source=TrendMD&utm_medium=TrendMD&utm_campaign=Pediatrics_TrendMD_0
This one is case studies on the effect of tetanus in unvaccinated children.

pediatrics.aappublications.org/content/114/1/e16.full
This is about beliefs on vaccine safety but if you read the introduction and the references it cites some papers that are interesting.

www.snohd.org/Portals/0/Snohd/Provider/files/UnderstandTheDiseaseParentGuide_CD.pdf
This is just a leaflet but gives some nice figures on death rates and complication rates of vaccinatable diseases. It is american so not all the vaccines apply.

www.sciencedirect.com/science/article/pii/S0140673697043341
This one is just an abstract unless you have a login but it gives the jist of what happens in countries that saw a drop in level of vaccination- i.e. More kids died.

There are a lot out there, you just need to be careful with the methodology of the study. For example www.sciencedirect.com/science/article/pii/S0161475400900721 this one suggests increased rates of allergy related disease in vaccinated children, yet the study only included a very low number of unvaccinated children (this makes the power of the study very low), they also relied on parental reporting of disease only, there was no need to have any confirmation of disease/allergy, which is a very biased and subjective way of performing a study meaning the results cannot be taken with any degree of certainty.

If you have papers you find or sources you are not sure about then if you post the link I can review them and assess study design and overall effect of the study, im used to assessing scientific papers and critiquing them.

No study is perfect. And I accept that in some cases children will have reactions to vaccinations. I myself had an allergic reaction to the second mmr vaccine as a child- hypersensitivity reaction- febrile and skin lesions but it all resolved quickly, and yes I have hayfever, but so does my partners unvaccinated friend but he also has asthma and eczema as well- this of course is just anecdotal evidence (aka the lowest of the low on the tree of strength of evidence) but unfortunately most of the anti vax evidence is anecdotal or uses research methods with poor reliability or repeatability. All in all my feelings are that if I had a child that died or had permenant disability as a result of a vaccinatable disease then this would haunt me much more than having a child with asthma.

In the animal side of things I see on an all too frequent basis (the rate of decline of vaccination in animals is happening much faster than in people at present) animals suffering for no good reason. Tiny puppies fading away in front of your eyes despite everyone's best efforts. Whole litters of kittens with horrific painful ulcers on there eyes, tongues and gums making them unable to eat or see. Adult dogs flat, unresponsive and jaundiced due to a preventable disease, dying in pain and dying needlessly. It is honestly heartbreaking and demoralising to see, and if others could see what it's like and even imagine the pain that they go through then it could all be prevented.

FXSkip · 10/06/2017 19:03

Thank you glittery 😍😍😍 there goes my Sunday - can't wait to get stuck into this! I'm neither pro nor anti, just in the dark right now!!

Forgot this one, but you might have seen it as it's quite a big one.

Starmist · 10/06/2017 19:44

Hope everyone is having a nice weekend. I've been quite lazy today. I've pumped up my birthing ball - I love it, so much fun to bounce on it!

Feeling slightly more organised as we've finally ordered the travel system. Went for the Mamas & Papas Ocarro.

Mooseville · 10/06/2017 20:46

Hello all! 41 weeks today and VERY fed up!!
I just hadn't even considered that I'd still be pregnant now!
Been for third attempt at sweep today - cervix still too closed and posterior. No budging it! Induction next Friday if baby hasn't put in an appearance before then. So annoying. What I will say is that my pregnancy pillow is an absolute godsend and they only place I'm truly comfortable now!
Another pro vaccination here. I think the risk of reacting to the vaccine is smaller than the risk should you contract some of these diseases.
Please send labour vibes my way and help me get this blumming baby out!!!! Grin

Starmist · 10/06/2017 21:08

Keeping everything crossed that baby Moose makes an appearance soon. Are you taking raspberry leaf tablets?

kavanaughkj · 10/06/2017 22:21

Moose! Sorry to hear you're still waiting - I hit 32 weeks tomorrow and the thought of 8 more weeks of lumbering around like a carthorse with carpal tunnel and acid reflux isn't an attractive one. I feel for you! Hope to hear good news soon!

Just got back from a lovely week away, starting with one night at the boardgames expo in Birmingham (am totally bringing miniKav with me next year, there were a bunch of strollers around) followed by a fab week of relaxation and walks in Cornwall. We had one day where it peed down with rain (which I basically used to sleep) but were really lucky with the weather other than that.

Marmite - I realised I never answered your question about my maternity shoot Grin - it was faaaabulous and while I bought a number of shots afterwards, I have one picture they took of me from it afterwards which is just a simple portrait shot but is my most favourite picture anybody has ever taken of me. The more risque shots are lovely too but they're not really shareable with anybody besides DH and a few close friends (DH has definitely enjoyed them though, and they're all tasteful!) - but the portrait shot I was utterly thrilled with. They made me feel totally beautiful and I'm so glad I did it. (Side note - if anybody's dithering about doing it, I'm happy to share a link to the shots I bought if you private message me, just in case that would help you make the decision!)

Skip - I am totally pro vaccinations too (thanks Glittery for sharing that information!) - I understand new parents being nervous but I wish more would take the time to inform themselves as you're trying to do rather than running scared from lack of information or listening to scare tactics.

Regarding your other question Skip - it's been AGES since I updated the due dates thread so that's what I'll do now! I'm not next - that'll be Seahawk after Moose - but I did for a second think that MrsG and I might be and scared myself!! Will just sort out the dates and post them.

Re: the maternity shoot, just realised I wasn't all that clear ... when I say some shots aren't shareable I just mean I'd prefer not to post the link publicly. Don't mind at all sharing it privately. :)

Wow won't be long before that's a list of babies rather than due dates! Maternity shoot sounds like a great thing to have done Kav lovely to have pictures of this special time to look back on! DH took a lovely bump picture of me about a week before I gave birth. Again, not really fOr public consumption but tastefully done! We've just been selecting the images we want from our newborn photo shoot! So cute!

Very pro vaccine here too. We've got our first lot in 2 weeks time, hoping it's not too traumatic! I'm hoping that because we had to go through quite a lot with needles and tests, the lumbar puncture etc in hospital with baby marmite that I'll maybe not find it as upsetting as my fellow NCT girls so far but that's probably wishful thinking!

Aw Moose been there and feel your pain - took me until 41+5 and the day before induction to finally go into labour after I'd given up all hope of it happening naturally! Remember it can happen at anytime! Lots of walking, ball bouncing, pineapple and sex!! Sex is actually the only vaguely scientific one of all the methods as it results in prostaglandin from the semen on your cervix and also creates surges of oxytocin! Don't think DH could believe his luck the amount of times we dtd when I was overdue!! Grin Just as well as cannot imagine ever wanting to do it again at the moment hahaa, or even if I wanted to, actually finding the time??!!

Currently trying and failing to settle baby marmite back to sleep after night feed... she's done a big feed but seems to be wide awake. She should be sleepy now but instead has just looked at me and done a massive grin! Trying not to engage with her as don't want to wake her up even more but hard not to! Such a cheeky little face!

Miranda234 · 11/06/2017 08:57

Hi ladies,

Thinking of you moose, hope things get moving for you soon!

Thanks glittery for all the info on vaccinations, I hadn't actually thought about any of that yet so will have a read.

Sounds like you had a lovely time away kav, we've just booked a cruise to go on in July so I'm really looking forward to that.

I had my 16 week midwife app last week, was hoping for her to check the heartbeat but apparently they don't do that anymore as it can still be hard to find at this stage and they don't want to cause anxiety if they can't find it. So now counting down to the 20 week scan!

So many August babies, I remember all those bfps on the ttc 1 thread!

Hope you're all having lovely weekends.

MissyJones80s · 11/06/2017 09:10

Hi all

kavanaugh my due date is coming up as 23 Jan however I think it might be a bit later than this due to when I think I ovulated. Put me down for 23 though.

It's so weird for me, when I first started ttc and joined the #1 so many of you in this episode first few weeks had your BFP, I can't believe that some of you are so close to being due!!!! It's doesn't feel like that long ago...does time fly???

MissyJones80s · 11/06/2017 09:11

Um no sure where the word episode came from random...meant to say I remember all your BFPs coming and and it really doesn't seem that long ago

Tonks87 · 11/06/2017 16:57

Thanks for the list Kav, I'm now 4th November as I was put forward at the dating scan. I'm now 19 weeks, I can't believe how quickly it's going!

I'll catch up properly next week, I'm currently on our 'babymoon' in Fuerteventura. Good luck Moose, I'm thinking of you!

Eva30 · 11/06/2017 18:18

Hi and thanks kav but dont think I'll be on the list for much longer. I had a scan today at 8w and could see sac but no baby. That was private scan, she said "maybe its just small and hiding, come back next week" but I'm not optimistic and going to EPU in morning. Wishing you all the very best xxx

Miranda234 · 11/06/2017 18:50

So sorry to read this eva, got everything crossed for you that baby was just hiding. Thinking of you x

Musicgrrl · 11/06/2017 23:05

Oh no Eva - I'm so sorry to hear that. I don't blame you for going to get checked tomorrow. I really hope it's good news. Will be thinking of you xx

Starmist · 12/06/2017 05:11

Eva I'm so sorry to hear this. Hope you can get some reassurance today, keeping everything crossed for you xx
