Welcome boneym - and congratulations. Isn't it amazing how quickly that bump pops out second time round! The tiredness is so boring. I had an afternoon nap yesterday, was in bed by 9pm and still slept through my alarm at 7am this morning. Also had a really bad bout of morning sickness over the weekend, including throwing up, this is at 18+ weeks. When's all this blooming going to happen, that's what I want to know. Shouldn't whinge actually, because I am doing much better than a few weeks ago - I can manage on a bit less sleep, and even do some cooking occasionally these days. I have a new obsession with soup!

Hope everyone else is doing ok.

steppemum · 04/10/2004 15:12

hi bonym, welcome. Definitely more bump more quickly second time round! And I noticed today that I'm getting stretch marks! I went through the whole of ds's pregnancy without them. I guess it is the growth spurt of the last month, but I am NOT impressed!
Got out some of my maternity clothes today, 4 weeks ago they looked huge, now they are beginning to look normal, ..sigh...

bonym · 04/10/2004 16:06

Oh pidge, I am depressed now - thought I would stop feeling so tired any day now ! I said to my boss last week that hopefully I'll be able to start doing full days again soon - maybe that was wishful thinking - it's such bad timing as well because we are so short staffed and I've got someone new starting on Wednesday who I'm supposed to be training. Oh well, as dh says, I've got to get my priorities right - and they're not work!
Steppemum - you've also slightly depressed me I'm afraid - I thought that as I didn't get any stretchmarks last time around then I wouldn't this time either - so much for that theory!! I'm sort of regretting telling dh (whose 1st baby this is) how much I loved being pregnant 1st time! Seems sort of unfair that it doesn't seem to be quite so plain sailing this time around. Oh, that sounds like such a whingey post - sorry to have a moan. I'm not really miserable!

Pidge · 04/10/2004 16:28

Oooh no - don't get depressed! Last time round I got more energy much earlier, so I have been a bit surprised by my capacity for sleep this time, but it is TONNES better than a few weeks ago. My main problem is feeling sick in the evenings which has been driving me to bed, but even that is way better than it was a few weeks ago. Last night I did the ironing AND cooked after 7pm, which was a rare triumph!

I'm sure my work routine doesn't help either - 4 days a week I'm out of the house for 11 hours, with a one hour twenty commute including a 35 minute cycle ride each way. So I tend to be very conservative and retire to bed to make absolutely sure I have the stamina to get through the day.

Hope you are full of beans soon!

misdee · 04/10/2004 21:00

hope everyone is doing great. i have a blinkin' cold now. grrr. got my glucose tolerence tests on weds morning, then fetal cardiac scan and 20 week scan next week.

hi Marchers
this is my first encounter with this site so feel a bit unsure of the form. my baby's due 20th march and it's my first. feel completely in wonder and somehow can't believe that i'm going to be a mum. i'm 37 and kind of thought that such a marvellous thing wouldn't happen. anyhow lots of feelings and thoughts.!

munchkinsusie · 05/10/2004 09:04

misdee - i've got a cold today too. i was tempted to say it was worse than it was and take to my bed for the day but managed to get my self up and out to work.

pidge - that sounds like a really tiring commute - but i guess it's keeping you fit which is probably a good thing.

i still don't feel i'm blooming exactly, but i think i feel better than i did in the first few months which is something. i'm still getting really tired in the evenings which generally leads me to be really grumpy. at least i'm manageing to make myself slow down a bit which i think is helping, even though it's boring!

Pidge · 05/10/2004 09:08

Hi sweeney - welcome to mumsnet and the march thread and CONGRATULATIONS. It is hard to believe isn't it - it's like a miracle even though it's second time round for me. And being a mum has been the most magical experience of my life, so you have so much joy and excitement ahead of you.

misdee - sympathies on the cold - I recommend retiring to bed with a mug of hot ribena! Is there any reason why you're getting a cardiac scan, or is that part of the 20 week scan? I have to wait till 23 weeks till I see the bub again, but then I was lucky and got that freebie 3-d scan a couple of weeks back.

misdee · 05/10/2004 09:17

hi pidege and welcome sweeny.

the reason i'm having a cardiac scan is that dh has a heart condition (dilated cardiomyopathy which presents itself as an enlarged heart), so they are going to check the size of babies heart and make sure things are ok.

OP posts:
Pidge · 05/10/2004 09:26

Ah, I see - I thought I hadn't heard of it as a routine check. Hope you didn't mind me asking. And I hope all the results are reassuring. Not to mention that the cold disappears soon.

misdee · 05/10/2004 09:33

dont mind u asking at all. dh was only dx when i was pregnant with dd2, sos they didnt check back then. so this is my 1st experience of a fetal cardiac scan.

Pidge · 05/10/2004 10:02

munchkinsusie and misdee - colds are definitely best cured by retiring to bed in my view. I had two days off a couple of weeks ago after dd did her virus magnet trick and passed it on to us. Frankly I battled my way in to work all through the depths of morning sickness and there's no way I was going to make myself sicker by doing the same with a stinking cold. I'm sure I bounced back faster by just sleeping for two days.

Londonmummy05 · 05/10/2004 13:23

Hi Girls, sorry I haven't written for so long,
I've been away and also everytime I try and write something my computer throws me off so it's getting frustrating! I'm typing really slowly now and hope it helps.

So much is happening, get well soon all you coldies. I'm feeling ok, but still tired. I'm 18 weeks now and have my 20 week scan soon- can't wait. I've started to feel the baby move which is awesome- has anyone else felt this yet? it feels like a twitch

I just got thrown off again- luckily I'd copied up to here, I wrote lots of other random stuff but can't be bothered to write it all again! I'll go before I'm thrown off again

Beetlebug · 05/10/2004 13:44

Hi all. Hope everyone is feeling well, I'm 18 weeks now, have a fantastic bump and sprog has started his/her olympic gym sessions. Much like you I'm still very tired but thats mostly because I had the double glazing salesman from hell round last night! I could see his sales pitch coming a mile away, it was so bad that after 4 hours I threatend to call the police and have him removed at which point he swiftley moved himself. Apart from that I'm feeling great. Anybody going to the baby fair at Earls Court?

LadyPenelope · 05/10/2004 15:04

Hi - I've enjoyed reading this thread and thought I'd join and say hi. I'm due end of March with my second. (Have dd of 3.5) I'm 15 weeks at the moment and feeling sorry for myself because I'm still sick in the mornings and really tired. I was holding out for 14 weeks because my morning sickness had stopped overnight last time around... but no luck. It's reassuring to see I'm not the only one, but hope you all start to feel better soon.

LadyPenelope · 05/10/2004 15:05

Oh yes - and my bump is huge already. I didn't even tell anyone at work that I was pregnant last time until 17 weeks... this time, it's been obvious since about 10! I'm off to look for strech marks...

Londonmummy05 · 05/10/2004 17:31

I was thinking of going to the fair Bettlebug, when is it? It's reassuring to hear your feelng movements too, I thought I was just imagining things!

Beetlebug · 05/10/2004 18:08

I think it's at Earls Court 22-24th October before moving onto Birmingham. I'm dragging my dh (and his wallet) along with me hoping that he'll be in a spending mood! There are bound to be some introductory offers and discounts. When you mentioned that twitching feeling in your last post I identified straight away...great isnt it?!

Beetlebug · 05/10/2004 18:10

Sorry LadyPenelope I meant to welcome you (and your bump) to this thread. Hope you feel a little better soon. Is'nt it amazing how quickly you bump arrives second time around?

sweeney · 05/10/2004 19:38

thanks misdee
morning sickness til about 12 weeks but ok now. my big worry is working in a somewhat dangerous workplace for offenders and trying to disguise being pregnant. i need to work till end of nov to get maternity pay and i'll be about 24 weeks so presumambly pretty big. yikes. any good clothes suggestions?
sweeney

misdee · 05/10/2004 19:41

surely theu could move u to a less dangerous position. my younger sister used to work in a behaviour unit, when they found out she was pregnant she was put onto desk work. she was headbutted and kicked a few weeks b4 they found out she was actually 10weeks gone (negative tests until then)

Hi everyone, welcome to sweeney and ladyP. I've just been having a really cute few days with ds1 and it's made me all soppy for the next one, just reminded me of what it is all about. I wore my dungarees today, totally announcing the bump, torn between being proud and embarrassed.

Sweeney, so pleased for you, I had ds at 35, also thought it would never be me, it is just fantastically wonderful being a mum (and I'll repeat that even on the bad days when ds is throwing a full wobbly!) I highly recommend buying or borrowing every book you can, wallowing in it, enjoy it etc etc.
You asked about maternity clothes, last time I found that all the maternity clothes were too big or the wrong shape (big baggy space for big bump) until I was about 7 months, so I wore bigger sizes and elastic waists etc. Try on loads and buy a couple of things now, and then a couple later when you're bigger. A lot depends on your shape, different styles suit different bumps.

I was lying on my tummy on the bed yesterday and definitely felt that tickle wriggly movement inside, can't wait until it gets more definite.

NewYorktoLondon · 06/10/2004 20:04

Hi all
It's been a while since i've been on.

So jealous of all of your bumps! I've just over 16 weeks and I don't think that anyone but me can tell that I'm pregnant. And to be honest I wouldn't even believe it if I hadn't had a scan and see it for myself.

i've have virtually no symptoms - other than tiredness which has faded as well.

I know that I should feel lucky, but it just makes me worried.

Any advice from all of you 2nd time moms? (This is my first).
