So we just got back from hospital after having an impromptu check up on Bump as I hadn't felt her move much. She's fine :) Phew!

I'd phoned, explained reduced movement etc and they said to come in.They hooked me up to a machine to monitor her heartbeat and movements for 30 mins and they're sending me for a scan tomoz. I only felt her move 4 times but she was active the whole time. Damn anterior placenta! We thought it was coz I'm so exhausted but midwife said it wouldn't make any difference and to always call.
They do a great job.

RedBlu · 05/03/2017 20:48

Thanks will ask the midwife about magnesium when I see her this week.

Just googled cold bellies when pregnant, apparently it's normal. Pregnancy is weird...

beanturnipandspud · 05/03/2017 20:56

rustler thank you. We have nothing other than the pram and 4 babygrows. We have nothing from bean or turnip either ... so we need everything! Haha. Not sure what we're going for at baby event, mainly because we've never done one before 😊

teainbed I know exactly where you are coming from. Roll on summer 😊🤰🏼👶🏼

redblu my belly is always cold too. I also find my self with my belly out when in the house, for instance I'll be sat on the sofa an realise that at some point I've pulled my top above my bump, like I'm trying to let it breath. Very odd I am!

DH has just felt Spuds hiccups. Third baby and this is the first time he has felt hiccups 'on the outside' ... I love first moments 😍

vanilla8 · 05/03/2017 20:58

Glad you grabbed some bargains rustler.
I think a picnic was a good idea as the food was a bit expensive in excel, but as expected with any of these types of places.
I noticed some people brought tumpleware food to heat up in the feeding area.

Whenever I lost my husband I found him near one of the Volvo cars Grin

I was tempted to buy a breast pump as there was some good deals but holding out to see what happens/ rent one

My bump is still really low, not feeling any movement near ribs just low down

RedBlu · 05/03/2017 20:59

Bean, I do the same during the night. I tend to wake up with belly and boobs out as my top is pulled right up... no idea why!

beanturnipandspud · 05/03/2017 21:05

redblu snap! I not usually so out there either! But I go to bed with jarmas and wake up with no top most mornings! No idea when I strip though. 😂

ShiniBerry · 05/03/2017 21:18

Am also just back from the babyshow, exhausted, achy and in bed.

We bought our UppaBaby (decided on the Cruz in the end because of the size and weight and for travelling on trains/tubes). Bought the bassinet that goes with it as well as a Maxi Cosi pebble plus and isofix base which was included in a package deal. We also bought a SnuzPod package which came with two sets of sheets and blankets, mattress protector (we bought an extra one as well) and side pocket. Picked up the Medela swing maxi pump and BabaBing bouncy chair and changing bag. Pretty good discounts on lots of stuff, but there were a few things that we checked prices against on Amazon and John Lewis which actually were cheaper than at the show (SleepyHead, GroBags/GroEgg, mothercare stuff like Braun thermometers, the Shnuggle baby bath).

We have a few more bits to pick up like a change table, the sleepyhead and cot bed (which can wait a few months).

Finally feeling a lot more prepared for this baby, as we literally had not bought anything up to now!

RedBlu my bump is often cold too-so weird!

Esme Bean Fox McBaby and Peas love your positive outlook on your whole birth experience, very encouraging to us first timers!

ShiniBerry · 05/03/2017 21:28

Also got some HotMilk nursing bras (highly recommended by my sister who lives in hers) which were 3 for 2 and a nursing camisole.

Autumnsweater · 06/03/2017 00:20

Thanks everyone for sharing positive labour stories, nice to hear.

Re parents foisting stuff on people, its funny how different people are. My parents/PiLs have all said they're not getting anything until after the baby is born (superstitious I think..) .. feel like I shouldn't complain about gifts, but at the same time I feel like I'm playing chicken with them! I can't not get essentials beforehand. I'm quite stressed about the money side of things as well as the main earner and will only be on SMP so really don't want to spend more than I have to.

Sipperskipper · 06/03/2017 06:45

Lovely to hear your positive labour stories!

Rustler74 · 06/03/2017 07:40

I wasn't really afraid of labour so much, maybe I hadn't even thought about it too much. Still really good to hear the stories.
Even if I have consultant led pregnancy follow up, I'm hoping to give birth in the midwife led unit, and to avoid medication for as long as I can.
I will most likely do this whole shebang only once so I best enjoy it as it is. And yes I'm pretty sure that whatever pain or misery was had during labour, it will all be worth it when I meet our baby!
I've woken up around 6am and was huffing and puffing on my back again. It seems a rather bad idea to lie on my back flat as it sends me wheezing but I can't lie on my side the whole time due to my back and hips getting really sore. I'm getting too big for the pregnancy cushion to be in the bed as well so I'll need to get an appointment with a physio. Will need to speak to midwives tonight at pregnancy club.

rustler physio at my hospital recommended putting an ordinary pillow in the bed, vertically along the right hand side of your back - so when you roll onto your back in your sleep you are at a slight angle tilted left. I def find that helpful.
Apparently they tilt the table in caesareans when you're on your back.

savagehk · 06/03/2017 10:17

yep, that's what I did last pregnancy to avoid me rolling onto my back. This time I'm not having many issues with being on my back but still best avoided. I seem to stay on my side most of the time, using a normal pillow by the top half of my body, luckily I don't have hip issues though.

teainbed · 06/03/2017 10:21

Maybe a bit late in the pregnancy for you to want to buy anything but I bought a memory foam mattress topper and it's been great for him painful hips.

teainbed · 06/03/2017 10:22

Brightsmoke · 06/03/2017 11:18

This is going to sound really stupid, but is anyone else worried they wont know they are going into labour? I'm concerned I wont know, and baby will 'appear' without me knowing. Really stupid, and I'm sure it wouldn't be possible, but it is a genuine ridiculous concern I have. I've read a lot about BH, and how to tell the difference, so hopefully I will know Grin.

Reassuring to hear all the positive birthing outlooks!

Glad all is OK Badger!

EsmesBees · 06/03/2017 11:24

Not stupid at all bright. I wasn't at all convinced that my contractions were the real thing. It's only because I (sorry, tmi) had a bloody show I thought I'd better head to hospital. It's because everyone (including the NCT teacher) had told me that when it was labour I'd 'know'. But my contractions were nothing like anyone had described.

Thankfully, contractions are not the only signs of labour, so I suspect the chances of the baby just appearing are very low!

RasperryInAMelon · 06/03/2017 11:47

Just discovered that the smell of popcorn is something my senses cannot deal with right now... on a packed train and the guy next to me has opened the biggest bag 😷

FoxMulder · 06/03/2017 12:05

I didn't know I was in labour at first - for the first 12h or so. I was convinced it would go away. In hindsight I wish I had taken a paracetamol and got some sleep, because those early surges kept me awake all the first night, so by the second night when I was in the thick of it I was knackered.

savagehk · 06/03/2017 12:09

In my last labour I had not a twinge before my waters broke. I was actually having Braxton Hicks but couldn't feel them (I realised later on I could feel my bump tightening with my hands, but had no sensations of tightening or anything like that at all). And once waters went labour started immediately (although strictly the midwives would say I wasn't in 'active' labour for a good few hours, but I was having regular contractions and was up to 3 in 10 pretty rapidly, even if I wasn't yet however-many-centimeters-they-wanted...)

MissMooMoo · 06/03/2017 12:58

I think it must be possible!
My mum was induced with her first three labours so when the fourth baby came along she didn't think she was in labour as with inductions the contractions come on quickly and painful.
My mum arrived at the hospital 8cm dialated with my youngest sister Shock still not believing she could really be in labour.
Sister born 2 hours later on her due date.

teainbed · 06/03/2017 13:39

I really feel like this baby is trying to escape sometimes. Confused You'd think I'd know by now but the movements this one does are utterly bonkers! I'm a good bit slimmer than when I had my last baby so wondering if it's that.

Badgerbird · 06/03/2017 13:47

Thanks bright :) They got me in for a scan this morning to check she wasn't tangled up and to check growth and all is well. Phew!

newbieho · 06/03/2017 13:56

Good news Badger Smile

Rasperry* I could not stand the smell of popcorn even pre-pregnancy so I really feel for you Confused

EsmesBees · 06/03/2017 14:06
