Claire I got a really good piece of advice re people buying/making things for baby which might help... I was told to accept everything because at some point it will be the only clean & dry thing in the house Grin

RasperryInAMelon · 05/03/2017 11:45

Claire I know what you mean. I got to my mums last night and she showed me things she's been buying hoarding without telling my dad it might not sound like a lot, but she's bought nappies, wipes, barrier ointment, dummy type medication administers, formula powder containers, a steriliser, clothes, hats, shoes and stuff for the baby 'to wear at their house on Christmas day' this year.

It's very sweet of her, but starting to drive me mad. She gave me a lovely baby grow yesterday and followed with 'it'll be cute for her to wear home from hospital' and looked so disappointed when I followed with the fact that DH and I have already got a couple of outfits in mind (which DD will probably be sick all over right before we leave the hospital and come home in whatever I can scrape together!) 🙈

I'm learning to just politely smile and say thank you and tell mum that perhaps these things can stay at her house as spares for when we come to visit xx

Barnes79 · 05/03/2017 11:49

Claire - you don't have to use them...

growcookeat · 05/03/2017 12:20

Claire I'm in a similar position with my mum and mil. Mum has bought a high chair already! And mil keeps knitting jumpers which aren't top of my list for a May baby! I know what you mean about it taking away your choice.

Like raspberry I've started to tell them to keep things at their house as backup. It annoys me though cos I feel it will get wasted. We keep asking them not to buy many newborn clothes as we don't know how long baby will need them!

ClaireSunflower · 05/03/2017 12:21

I know, I just need to get over it. Our house is really small and the thought of all the clutter is stressing me out a bit. raspberry I like your suggestion- I think I'll suggest they leave some of it at their house for when we visit and that will save us some space Smile

EsmesBees · 05/03/2017 12:36

I'm in two minds about posting this as I'm not after sympathy at all, but Claire I would let her get on with buying lots if it makes her happy and feel involved. She's probably really excited and loves the idea of helping you. My mum did the same when I was expecting DD and it drove me crazy, and then we lost her last summer and I would give anything to have my house filled with unwanted baby bits again.

EsmesBees · 05/03/2017 12:37

Rustler amazing deal! Did you go for the Cruz or the vista? Still love my bright blue buggy, it really is a great pram.

newbieho · 05/03/2017 13:14

Claire and Rasperry it is difficult and sometimes needs a LOT of patience to deal with. You can always sell unwanted stuff though on ebay or local FB pages...

RasperryInAMelon · 05/03/2017 13:32

I'm sorry to hear that Esme Flowers I know it's one of those, you don't know what you've got till it's gone things - I don't mean it ungratefully, it just sometimes feels like things are being forced upon me and DH a little

EsmesBees · 05/03/2017 13:59

Oh I know Raspberry I remember the feeling well. It can be overwhelming when you end up with a load of stuff you didn't choose. I didn't want to make you feel bad at all.

newbieho · 05/03/2017 14:04

Esme that is what I keep saying to myself when my parents drive me nuts. They live outside of the UK and usually come over for a week or two. They are both lovely but after a few days you are getting exhausted. My mum is always giving me a ton of advice about pregnancy over skype, which is annoying but I will miss it when she is gone Confused

lullaby23 · 05/03/2017 14:06

Steriliser bags on Amazon also available in supermarkets, Boots, Argos(!)

Wow I'm shocked at how much stuff some of you are having bought unsolicited. I think I would be peed off beyond the odd outfit or toy to be honest! Both of our parents have a cot or travel cot at their house and DM has quite a few bits that my cousin's children have grown out of which is really helpful for when we are visiting however.

Rustler74 · 05/03/2017 14:18

I agree Claire just accept what you may not use but consider it for another of their grandchildren. My BiL did not accept many of his parents gifts when his DD was born (and I can see why) but they've been ventilating their disappointment on us and now we feel compelled to use some of it. Although we have politely declined the buggy they store in the mucky mouldy garage!
It's a vista with green!

1004 i had the jaw thing recently, seems to have gone now. Re labouring, i laboured mostly naked, i was in the pool part of the time and with everyone wanting frequent internal exams and/or heading to the loo / leaking waters it just made more sense. I'll have a dressing gown in my birth bag and probably two button down pajamas for afterwards, so you can feed easily. I bought a massively oversized top thing from primark last time which i think i still have and didn't use. If you're labouring on dry land, not in a pool, a nightie is probably a good idea as you will still look half decent even if you're not wearing any knickers

savagehk · 05/03/2017 14:33

Re sterilising can't you also get a microwave steriliser? Smaller than a countertop one and could live in the microwave for storage. I just used bags as only thing i sterilised was the tubes etc of the breast pump

ClaireSunflower · 05/03/2017 14:46

So sorry about your mum esmesbees Flowers I'm going to look at it from a new perspective and I know it's coming from a mostly good/excited place, clutter or no clutter!

RedBlu · 05/03/2017 15:08

I am suffering badly with horrendous leg cramping, it's every single night now and my legs are agony all the time. Apparently tonic water helps?!

We had our 4D scan the other day,
It went well but she was being very awkward in her positioning so what was suppose to be a ten minute scan ended up being way over as we kept having to go for a walk. Got some nice face shots but I was a little disappointed with some of the shots as they weren't overly clear!

I am 29 weeks tomorrow, technically I could go on maternity leave now but I have said I will work up to 38 weeks. I am just so fed up with work now, tired all the time and I keep getting really faint in the afternoon, to the point of almost blacking out. Midwife said my iron levels are fine so could be a drop in blood sugar as it seems to happen mid afternoon and her advice is to snack more. She didn't mention what my GTT results were but I would like to assume they are ok otherwise she would have said when I mentioned the feeling faint?! I see her Wednesday anyway so will find out then.

Work are interviewing for my maternity cover this week, I am a bit anxious as it does feel like someone is "replacing me" but I know they have to give me either the same or an equal position when I return so hopefully the cover will graciously "sod off" when I return.

My irrational rant of the day is I don't like Gumtree. As this is our first, we need lots of stuff so I keep checking out Gumtree. It doesn't seem to matter how often I check
On there or how fast I reply to posts, I keep missing out on good stuff!! I am being very annoyed and am taking it personally now! Angry

MrsJW15 · 05/03/2017 15:34

Ha red. Don't take it personally! I do find gumtree can be very hard work if you actually want something.

I survived the wedding! I stayed up until midnight when things were really getting going. Didn't spend much time dancing though. I'm pretty tired today, but everyone else here is hungover Grin

RasperryInAMelon · 05/03/2017 15:43

Red my local Facebook selling sites have been my best friend and in fact I'm picking up a little bundle of clothes and a couple of stair gates today for £25 all in!

Badgerbird · 05/03/2017 15:46

I'm a broken woman today after the mammoth work day yesterday coupled with constantly shit sleep Sad We're trying to come up with a solution for next wknd as we have a 2 day bigger event Confused I'm not getting dressed today!

redblu that sounds horrid :( have you tried the magnesium spray?

mrscrocopop · 05/03/2017 16:02

Red - sorry to hear you are suffering with cramps. I am too, I wake up in absolute agony and then my calves hurt all day 😭 Apparently salt, magnesium, warm baths before bed and calf massage helps. I suppose only time will tell if it helps!!!

NannyW · 05/03/2017 16:10

Hi all, have been following this for ages but haven’t posted on it before. Im due baby number one in May.

RedBlu I get really bad leg cramps through the night on the days I don’t eat a banana! Worth a go?!

peasandquiet · 05/03/2017 16:22

I'm so knackered from the baby show! home now with tea and cake! We got a snuzpod with 10%off and a breast pump with loads off, excited to have a double pump this time will save so much time!! Then went to mothercare at Westfield and got some nursery bits from the littlebird range that they didn't have at the show.
My mum bought lots for number 1 but hasn't this time around, makes me very grateful for what she got me 1st time as paying for it all is so expensive 😂
Failed miserably to try LO on a buggy board, will just scour eBay for a second hand one and hope he takes to it!
