peach I think NCT is definitely worth it... we've finished main bit now with breastfeeding bit on Thursday. Feel a lot more prepared, and me and DH have had lots of good conversations about the birth and first few months and what we both want. It's a really nice group too and both of us have enjoyed meeting other couples in the same situation

Badgerbird · 04/03/2017 22:47

shini muesli out the nose ShockConfusedGrin

Re growbags I've got my eye on 1.0 togs as it's summer. Is this not enough with a vest/ pjs on?

Is it safe to drink raspberry leaf tea so early peach?

Rustler74 · 04/03/2017 23:20

I've accepted the messages and added you on fb so I can add you on the group.
Perhaps catch up tomorrow ?

Wow! What a busy eve on the thread! DH and I travelled down to Bristol this afternoon to go to a family birthday dinner thing with my Parents, brother and his girlfriend.

Lovely eve, but didn't get home till almost midnight, ate way too much, forgot my special pillow and am now wide awake with a stinking headache 😩

Walker you just missed a couple of offers on it! Originally when we bought it they had an offer with a free car seat, which we bought. But then they released the Chelsea bag and car seat so we returned our package and repurchased it. We ended up paying £645 in total and then got the ISOFIX base half price too.

Vanilla good to know about the LIDL event in March! Thanks 👌🏻

Peach where are you doing your course out of interest?

Badger - I found the attached tog / heating clothing chart the other day when I was trying to get my head around it!

fox the Sleepyhead is washable so I would say fine to buy secondhand. I've seen people mention the Purflow but don't know enough about it to say it's a suitable dupe.

28 weeks today, made it to 3rd tri woop! Think I tempted fate as starting to have slight groin-spd pains the last couple of nights.

Hope everyone has a good Sunday.

ginandcake · 05/03/2017 05:47

I hate pregnancy insomnia, and if one more person tells me that it is my body getting ready for when the baby arrives I will scream!

Still not feeling great. Lots of period type cramps and tightening, and also feeling sick. Still not on any antibiotics for the possible UTI. Thinking about giving triage or GP out of hours a ring. Can't decide and I'm a bloody GP!

I think doing NCT is a great idea, really regret not doing it with DD1, have heard lots of good things about it and a good way to make mum friends.

I'm with you walker, this is number 3 and we have bought absolutely nothing so far! Need to start getting organised!

PeachIcedT · 05/03/2017 07:01

That's good to know that NCT is worthwhile yellow and gin, makes me feel better about being £300 lighter! It's in BR1 rasperry which isn't the closest for me but options were limited this late on and the course leader let me know rough locations of the other couples. Hope you enjoyed the dinner.

Badger yes it's quite early to start drinking it but advice seems to vary a lot - I'm 30 weeks now, my mum and sister both absolutely swore by it (and had very speedy labours) - my mum drank it from 20 weeks. I'm a lot more sceptical than them but am giving it a go in case it helps even a smidge.

Gin I hope you can get an appointment before long and they can help you feel more comfortable.

vanilla8 · 05/03/2017 07:03

badger I couldn't decide on grobag togs either, however having a chat with them yesterday helped. I think it may have been mentioned before but there is a handy card that comes with them that tells you what baby should be wearing under the grobag and what tog you should use depending on the temperature of the room

peasandquiet · 05/03/2017 07:13

Oh Gin, get yourself sorted today. I forgot your one of our GP's you really do make the worst patients then!!!
I drank a bit of rasberrry leaf tea last time, was off tea and coffee unlike this time, think I'd still prefer a latte at the moment!!
I feel like I've been awake all night Sad toddler alarm is going off so time to start the day!!
PS : Grow bags are fab, I plan to put baby in the 2.5 ones we already have and then do just long sleeve vest underneath till the autumn.

1004Rise · 05/03/2017 08:00

Happy Sunday all (can I have another Saturday please I'm knackered Confused)

Picked up our car seat yesterday, if it's not pouring today we may try putting it in the car (takes up less space) we did have a practice with a teddy bear and the harnesses Grin

1004Rise · 05/03/2017 08:07

Oooops posted too soon.

Picked up a few baby clothes too, long and short sleeve vests and some sleepsuits... and they're not all white or cream... mothercare actually had a reasonable selection of bright colours that weren't pink or blue Wink

Saw one of the counter top sterilisers "in person " they're huge!!! No way do I need one of them! Where do you find microwave sterilising bags?

Hospital bag question, what do you wear when in labour? Need to pick up dark pjs/nightie for after but no idea what I need during.

Also if all goes well I was reading that they aim to send you home after about 6 hours? How realistic is that? My bag is growing in size rapidly and I don't want to not need half of it Blush

teainbed · 05/03/2017 08:27

gin if you can't decide it probably means you need to call someone. Smile

EsmesBees · 05/03/2017 08:34

gin that sounds terrible. Are you not keen on trying the antibiotics then?

Rise my NCT teacher recommended taking one of DHs old t-shirt s to give birth in. But I think I ended up wearing a hopsital gown. Basically, something comfy you can throw away if needed. 6 hrs is what they say for second timers, most first timers I know were in for around 24 hrs, or longer of a c-section. They shouldn't let you go until they've done all the checks and you've got feeding established.

Day 1 of potty training went well (so boring though). We were both exhausted by the end of it. My hip pain caused by my autoimmune condition has flared over night, it was crippling last pregnancy so hope this isn't the start of a similar episode. It's not like I can sit down and rest these days.

ShiniBerry · 05/03/2017 08:55

Gin I've been having similar symptoms (period pain and tightening). I woke up last night feeling like I'm getting a UTI and did one of those pee analysis strip things-mind if I get your opinion on it?

RasperryInAMelon · 05/03/2017 08:58

Rise I think what you wear is a lot down to you, friends of mine haven't bothered with anything because they were in and out of the pool. Personally I've picked up two horrendously ugly yet comfy nighties from Primark and have a nice night shirt for post labour.

beanturnipandspud · 05/03/2017 09:25

rise I birthed both times in just my bra. Which was also taken off just before baby born for immediate skin to skin. I am not normally so naked but I can't stand having clothes on when labouring. This time I plan on having a tankini top for in the pool.
I have never ruined any clothes through birth , so never bought anything that I have had to throw away.
Old t shirt of other half could work, you just want to be comfy 😊

1004Rise · 05/03/2017 09:32

Thanks for the tips... definitely comfort over style then Grin

Have developed a new bizarre symptom this week, a really sore jaw... anyone else? Dr google says I have hormones to thank and there's not much I can do about it... Confused

FoxMulder · 05/03/2017 09:35

walker sounds exactly the same as mine. Sonographer was very confident it would move but midwife and consultant have been more doubtful. I pushed for a 32 week scan rather than the 36 week one they offered. Don't know if that was the right thing to do!

1004 I laboured in the clothes I was wearing. Never occurred to me to get changed. I guess I must have taken my pants off at some point, I don't remember!

FoxMulder · 05/03/2017 09:40

Re: getting discharged from hospital - I gave birth about 5am and left that evening. I didn't want to stay overnight on my own!

beanturnipandspud · 05/03/2017 10:01

Bean was born at 21:40 we left at midday the day after.

Turnip was born 02:56am on Sunday, we left at 9am Tuesday morning as she had to be monitored for infection because she was without water for ages.

MissMooMoo · 05/03/2017 10:28

I have also bought some nighties from primark (£4.50!) For labour or afterwards.
I am hoping to give birth in the pool and I think I probably won't care what I am wearing at that point.

Badgerbird · 05/03/2017 10:41

Thanks raspberry, peas & vanilla. I find it hard to judge as I'm such a cold person! Also we are going away in Sept where it'll be quite hot but can rethink then :)

Aah I see thanks peach. I love all that kind of stuff and drank it after MMC's to help uterus get tone back. Thought it could lead to early contractions due to its tightening effect but would prob have to drink gallons of the stuff!!

gin it's been a few days now that you've not been well, just call someone ;) really hope you can get it sorted sooner rather than later.

Rustler74 · 05/03/2017 11:09

Just bought Uppababy for £ 480.00 whoop

ClaireSunflower · 05/03/2017 11:12

This might sound quite ungrateful / 1st world problem sort of thing but has anyone had parents / in laws buying too much stuff?

I have a slightly difficult relationship with my mother in law. She's an extremely overbearing and controlling person and I find her hard to deal with. She's announced to dh that she has bought all this stuff, clothes, blankets and other baby things. I don't know if I'm feeling a bit oversensitive and overprotective but I sort of feel like by doing this she's taking away my decisions to choose things like what blankets I get and what clothes he wears. I know it's silly but I get the feeling she's doing all this to stake a sort of claim in the baby and just wish she would stop! Dh has had a word but she's not the listening type and I think she's just going to carry on regardless. Maybe I should just get over it and be grateful!

ShiniBerry · 05/03/2017 11:16

Wow Rustler fantastic deal!

Badger I love raspberry leaf tea, drank loads of it after I went off the pill and also after my m/c. Hoping to start drinking it again soon, I've heard that it helps speed up labour.
