...forgot to add a Close Caboo is another idea for a newborn if you think a wrap is too much faff (it's not, really, promise! - but it will help a lot if you get someone to show you how to tie it, another good use for a sling meet (or a baby show))

Rustler74 · 03/03/2017 13:20

Teaspoon all from JoJo!.
And I have the same worries about DMiL trying to make passive aggressive comments, and she and her husband are both quite good at that, much to their son's annoyance! I'm going to ask him once again if he really wants her to come over?
I'm not one to say she can't or I don't want to confirm their suspicion that they're down in the pecking order below my mum (if there was such an order then most new mums would naturally choose to get advice from their own mum, I'm thinking).

Ha, Rustler my in laws definitely know that. It's just different I think, I talk to my mum a lot about pregnancy etc. DH doesn't have those conversations as he's not pregnant.

DH called some nurseries today. Looks like we'd better get on with registering! No idea when we will fit in visits.

Teaspoon74 · 03/03/2017 13:34

Thanks Rustler - will check it out! And I think with MIL now is the one time to be assertive and selfish!!

Savage- thank you. Really helpful! Will need to get a little booking for lists and suggestions ;)

Badgerbird · 03/03/2017 13:52

Oooh have a fab wknd bright!!

A family friend was told her baby was going to be around 10lbs (she's small) and she'd need to come in, be induced etc. Anyway she held out, gave birth naturally to 8lb baby.

Oh barnes that's horrid!! You poor thing, what a way to wake up Sad

Strangley enough I could have almost written that post! Baby kicked so hard my arm on tummy moved :) I then had my first anxiety dream where I gave birth then long story short they lost my baby :( woke up in a very strange mood.

raspberry your commute sounds horrid!

Eeeek adventure!!! Hope it goes well x

Badgerbird · 03/03/2017 14:02

savage that connecta solar sounds great. Had a look on their website and they are out of stock at the mo (lots of their stuff is) so going on waiting list. Thanks for the sling tip :)

savagehk · 03/03/2017 14:06

The solarweaves do tend to come into stock then all sell out and then come back in, so worth keeping an eye out before you 'need' one (if you're heading off on hols somewhere hot). There's also a FB group - slings and things FSOT and advice - where you could search for second hand ones if needed.

RasperryInAMelon · 03/03/2017 14:08

Rise it infuriates the crap out of me. What's worse, I got on a train which was the right one, they then announced it wasn't so I got off and it bloody was the right one, the staff at the station got it wrong!! Consequently had to wait 20 mins for another which then got delayed with London Bridge signal problems and a passenger who was taken ill. It was horrendous badger can't wait to not have to do it everyday...

Drives me crazy that I'm never home on time either. three weeks to go... three weeks to go...

Have a brilliant last day Adventure!

Thanks teaspoon I'm hoping it makes her look like an idiot while I'm away. I'm planning on doing my KIT days so will see how much bitching she does while I'm off!

Got my 28 week Midwife appt on Monday (will be 28+5) what should I expect ladies?

Teaspoon74 · 03/03/2017 14:14

Meant to share this the other day but was a bit too upset. Bit of a cautionary tale for anyone (else) with a food allergy or intolerance as I keep hearing that pregnancy lowers your immune system but don't know if that had any impact.

Last week I went to Pret below work and got some red Thai chicken soup. I have a crustacean allergy so asked the manager to check the big ingredients file - which showed all was ok. Started reacting within minutes and spent the afternoon, eve and night being really ill. So much so that I went for an emergency scan the following day.

Just had a call from Pret saying that they think there may have been contamination in the factory- they try not to but ....

They've been lovely and helpful (probably 'cause I've burst into tears every time I've spoken to anyone about it!) and have offered a good will gesture of a spa day (or sthg). I just want them to add a warning to the folder so it doesn't happen again!

Anyone else noticing food sensitivities/allergies worsening?

Adventuregame · 03/03/2017 14:16

Rasperry I feel for you on the commute. To be honest that's the main reason I am leaving so early. I can't do the 5:30 get up for a 6:22 train anymore - if baby has kept me awake some of the night it's so much harder and I really struggle to get through the day. So I'm going to rest, relax, go swimming, go for slow walks, order the rest of the stuff on my list....oh and we're having a whole new bathroom fitted in April !!

EsmesBees · 03/03/2017 14:20

Oh teaspoon that really sucks. No food allergies here, but I know your pregnancy does ruin your immune system so it makes tummy bugs etc more likely.

On the wrap front, would recommend for Close Caboo for when they are less than 6 months, and then Manduca carrier after that. It's such a comfy sling. We still use it two years on.

Raspberry the usual measurements, doppler, blood pressure and urine tests. Plus anti-d if you need it and blood tests.

Teaspoon74 · 03/03/2017 14:23

Esmes- I think it just compounded worries I already have about passing allergies on to Bic Hmm

savagehk · 03/03/2017 14:31

teaspoon when we were away over Christmas (not in the UK) I spent the night throwing up (not normal pregnancy throwing up either). Wasn't sure if it was something I'd eaten (we'd eaten out and OH / DS had other food) or if it was a bug. OH / DS didn't come down with anything so I went to the hospital to get checked that it wasn't listeriosis. They seemed more worried about me being dehydrated etc (and wanted to give me anti-throwing-up stuff), I was only worried about the baby! Blood tests came back clear in the end, luckily.

Teaspoon74 · 03/03/2017 14:41

Savage- awful isn't it?! I have a severe reaction to crustaceans (hives, constricted airway, raised temperature, headache, bin) which means even the smallest bit of fish sauce or flavoured paste with, say, shrimp will set me off.

Challenging when we've visited my best mate from school in Japan as the Japanese version of "vegetarian" often includes seafood paste. Confused

1004Rise · 03/03/2017 15:38

OK so don't think I have had any hiccups yet, just a potential rugby player HmmBlush

Teaspoon that must have been really scary, glad all is ok! Only way I've been traveling this late is because I work from home the rest of the time.... so glad I've not had to do any commuting!

Adventure hope your last day is fab! You've made me count, I only have 8 weeks left?!? Where did all the time go Shock

DH told me today that his DPs have booked a B&B for about the 3rd of June for a few days so they have something in the calendar and that the B&B will be flexible if they needed to move dates etc. I'm totally Shock at how sensible they've been on their own! Even played it safe, booking two weeks after my due date. So no awkward conversations required!!

Teaspoon74 · 03/03/2017 15:43

100Rise- the ILs sound amazing!

FoxMulder · 03/03/2017 15:45

I had a vomiting bug over Christmas that DH and DS didn't get savage. Never occurred to me that it could be anything else!

FoxMulder · 03/03/2017 15:47

My family are coming up and staying in a holiday cottage over the June half term so will be around to help out.

MissMooMoo · 03/03/2017 15:59

teaspoon that sounds so scary! I have an
anaphylaxis allergy to shellfish and carry 2 epi pens with me at all times.
I am so worried little one will have an allergy too. Its awful knowing that theres something out there that has the potential to kill you in minutes.

Rustler74 · 03/03/2017 15:59

Rise me too I've 8 weeks left.
Teaspoon sounds like a right ordeal that allergy! I only have lactose intolerance and a kiwi allergy, which is rather easy to avoid. Green bananas and fresh pineapple are also problematic but the reactions are milder than what you described.

Cinnamon I've managed to get into the group with Savage's help!

OP posts:
Teaspoon74 · 03/03/2017 16:02

MissMoo - that's why I was so very worried Hmm. I've never had to use an EPI pen, but worry I could pass it on and it be more severe.

Rustler - lactose intolerant too! Used to think it was. Kemal to com every day on the way to school until baby bro studied medicine and told me what he thought was wrong. Dur! How do I get in on the FB group?

1004Rise · 03/03/2017 17:36

Tea I know!! And I was all ready to use Barnes strategy of "there's no point us all being up half the night"

teainbed · 03/03/2017 18:00

Evening all.

Teaspoon that sounds terribly scary. Hope you're ok now. Allergies just cause such uncertainty.

Is everyone managing with sleeping on their side? I am ok but the last few nights I've woken up on my back feeling really funny and lightheaded with it.

Barnes79 · 03/03/2017 18:31

Tea - are u sleeping on your left or right? I'm sure I've read something about needing to sleep on the left side as there's a major blood vessel that can get a bit squashed if you lie on the right later on...

Rustler74 · 03/03/2017 18:46

Tea I got the same when flat on my back although I'm ok when propped up so my rib cage is higher up. Left side is easiest but right side is acceptable. Not much sleep thought!
