Hi......anyone out there just found out they're expecting? Thought it might be nice to start a little thread!
I've tested this morning and got a feint BFP, have recently had 2 m/c so may be being optimistic but I'm tired of worrying!! If it works out it works out!! Fingers crossed. If it's a sticky one I'm due bonfire night! 5/11/17.
Anyone else out there the same??Smile

Thanks also to @WasWebb81 and @Brummiegirl15. Really helps to have your thoughts.

It's such a strange and difficult set of circumstances, isn't it? For us, both our sets of parents are the types who'll fuss over everything, which will drive me mad. I know it's a nice thing really, but I'm the least girly-girl ever and I can't stand all that stuff. I become a teenager if my mum ever attempts a mum-and-daughter type conversation. Ugh (I know, I'm horrible).

My husband and I always talk very openly about everything, so I think support-wise we'll be okay with each other if anything goes wrong. Also, we live quite a distance from our parents and don't see them often - and generally we don't discuss super-personal stuff with them. But I'd rather tell them than sit through another awkward lying session!

Friends-wise, there are some people I'd feel comfortable telling early if push came to shove (especially those who've been through it themselves). But groups are soooo difficult... especially being invited for an evening in the pub or at someone's house! Saying no looks antisocial and avoiding wine means they'll know anyway (without a doubt) so might-as-well be honest.

Foggymist · 13/03/2017 15:34

I drank wine and beer Saturday and got bfp yesterday morning, I'm not concerned. At this early stage the embryo is not relying on a placenta for sustenance and growth, it's using the yolk sac. I'm not a big drinker but had been drinking during tww when I got pregnant with my son and all was fine, minimal drinking is not the same as high levels of alcohol.

I still eat my meat medium and all the cheeses I want! Once they're pasteurised they're fine, and glorious runny eggs are still on my menu too. The only thing I avoid is liver which I love, because of the vitamin A levels. And excess tuna etc obviously but I usually only have tuna steaks once a month or so anyway.

PingusMistress · 13/03/2017 16:23

I'm the same age as you brummie and thinking of having the Harmony test too, hopefully at around ten weeks to get a reassurance scan at the same time. I haven't told DH the price of it yet though! He may have other ideas when he finds out...

Re eating and drinking, it is a bit of a personal choice I think. Some women have a very small amount of alcohol once they get past the first trimester, a friend of mine had half a Guinness a week (yuck). Runny eggs are Ok as long as they have the lion mark on them, so not eggs from your neighbour's back garden chickens. I eat pink steak and pasteurised cheese. I'm a bit unsure about Brie and Camembert that are pasteurised though, they always seem to be on the "no" lists but I'm not sure why?

PingusMistress · 13/03/2017 16:27

Oh, and with telling people, I would tell the people that you would want to lean on for support if you had an MC. So maybe parents and siblings (depending on how close you are) and best friends. And maybe your boss at work too, in case you need time off to get over it. That said, it was horrible having to tell my male older boss that I'd lost the baby I had previously told him about so excitedly. But he was very understanding and kind about it.

FluttershyStare · 13/03/2017 18:04

I'm undecided when to tell parents too.

It's tricky as siblings previously told our parents very early on, but I want to have had my booking in and see if I need an earlier scan first... also there's Mother's Day coming up.

I've been feeling rotten this week, full on nausea although thankfully
No actual sickness yet and I'm lucky if I can keep my eyes open til 9pm!

We've been looking at prams and cots though which has made up for it Smile

HoneyWheeler · 13/03/2017 18:31

I told my TA at work today (I'm a teacher) as I was fit to burst from wanting to tell someone and also, I'd tell her if I had a MC so it seemed like the right thing to do. I'm not going to tell work properly until after 12 week scan.

My mum is flying over in two weeks' time (I'm an expat) and planning to tell her then so I can do it in person and we can go shopping together as we won't likely have another chance to do it!

Foggymist · 13/03/2017 18:41

I was dying to tell a friend who knew about my chemical pregnancy last month but it wore off me after a few hours! I was so close to sending her a photo of the tests! But after the chemical I just thought I wouldn't as I felt a bit stupid getting ahead of myself last month.

We'll see my parents in a fortnight but I think we'll keep it totally quiet until after our private 8 week scan, which we did last time too. We didn't tell many until 20-26 weeks on ds, so will probably be similarly oddly quiet this time too!

DuRezidal · 13/03/2017 18:51

What is the harmony test?

Brummiegirl15 · 13/03/2017 21:20

Harmony and panorama are the names (brands) of the tests but they known as non invasive prenatal testing (NIPT) and they do a blood test. The blood test will contain the DNA of the baby and they can look for Down Syndrome, Turners and PATAU (Trisomy 21, 18 and 13) and you can also find out the gender.
These tests are not normally available on NHS (although it's being rolled on out NHS in 2018) and normally cost approx £400

The NHS testing is the nuchal test where they measure the fluid as the base of the skull, they also look at the nasal bone as well. There is also a follow up blood test.
All of these tests will only tell you if you are high risk/low risk but in order to be 100% you would need cvs or amniocentesis - both of which carry a risk of miscarriage.

That is why the harmony / Panorama tests are popular as they are non-invasive and therefore no chance of miscarriage, but the is cost £

lightgreenglass · 14/03/2017 08:54

If you are at Kings are get a high ratio for the nuchal they will offer CVS or the harmony. So worth finding out if your hospital does offer it, might be able to save ££.

lightgreenglass · 14/03/2017 08:54

And* damn typos!

Brummiegirl15 · 14/03/2017 09:48

Have just received booking in appointment booked 12th April and 12 weeks scan booked for 28th April

sweetandsaltypopcorn · 14/03/2017 10:33

brummiegirl I'm in the process of changing doctors because my last one was terrible but that means they won't let me go straight to the midwife, I have to see the GP first and the first appointment they have is next Monday although will only be 6 weeks then but then will have to wait for booking in and then scan!

I've booked a private scan on the 8th April as I have zero symptoms right now other than being exhausted and hungry.

I did another clear blue test on Saturday out of paranoia and it was still positive and said 2-3 weeks which the Monday before said 1-2 so I'm fairly relieved by that!

cnew · 14/03/2017 15:12

Just made my booking in appointment for the 6th April when i'll be 8 weeks!

booox · 14/03/2017 15:30

Exciting! Did you ring up or were you contacted?

My symptoms seem to have lessened hugely, 5 weeks. Anyone else?

FluttershyStare · 14/03/2017 15:34

At 7 weeks my symptoms are hugely revolving around feeling nauseous.. I know I was naive as this is my first, but bloody hell give me back the hungry!

I was properly sick this morning as apparently toothpaste is now gag worthy.

Hope everyone is getting on ok, it's exciting that so many booking in appointments and early scans are coming up for us here

booox · 14/03/2017 15:36

Actually as soon as I typed that I realised how much my boobs were hurting!

JulyLady7 · 14/03/2017 15:44

Hey ladies,

flutter I'm exactly the same. Cannot brush my teeth without gagging!
Boobs are super sore!
Bad news from my scan today. I'm supposed to be 6 + 5, but measuring 6 + 3 with an enlarged yolk sac. Definitely looking like I'll miscarry. Next scan next Tuesday. :(

Brummiegirl15 · 14/03/2017 16:49

Oh July no!! I'm sorry.
I've got my scan tomorrow and I'll be 6+5 and I already have the cold grip of fear

MrsB12345 · 14/03/2017 16:59

Sorry to hear that @JulyLady7. Sorry to be a little naive but what does an enlarged egg sack mean?x

boringbetty · 14/03/2017 17:00

Sorry to hear that July Flowers

JulyLady7 · 14/03/2017 17:03

Thanks ladies, heartbroken. Especially as it's my 3rd mc. Even though there is a hb, I know it won't survive.
The yolk sac is the structure that feeds the baby before the placenta takes over. A large one is associated with chromosomal abnormalities and fetal death.

FluttershyStare · 14/03/2017 17:13

Oh no, July! I'm really sorry to hear that.
Thinking of you Flowers

PingusMistress · 14/03/2017 17:41

Oh dear July, I'm so sorry. I really hope that they are wrong get better news at your next scan SadFlowers

booox · 14/03/2017 17:42

I'm so sorry to hear that july. Huge un mumsnetty hugs Flowers
