Thought I would get there 1st!!!

Zooming in - almost finished housework and feeling less stressed out - poor DH, he came home to a very wound-up mummy when he got home for lunch - after almost driving into a wall on my way back from dropping him off at work (!!!!) and doing lots of cleaning and hoovering, I must say I am feeling better! Still got lots to do though .....

Zoom, Zoom, Zoom ........

ARGH - Can't remember anything anyone said, apart from MrsGV getting the wrong end of the stick ..... LOL!

Hope everyone else is ok!!

I decided not to join the list because fingers crossed i'll be up and running after a few hours of delivering and i'll forget to call my buddy. Thanks ever so though, it is a good idea, especially for those of us who might stay in hospital and not be able to get online

And Ellie, Mothercare sold me a car seat, a MaxiCosi, as the next stage up seat for my DS. When I went to John Lewis to get the larger rearward seat for my DD a year later they saw the MaxiCosi in my car and asked me why I had it, I explained that Mothercare sold it to me and they said it was not recommended in my car because of buckle crunch and swapped it for another seat even though they were not the original retailer. The salesperson said they would not let me drive away with DS in it

EllieKwithaHUGEbump · 26/02/2007 21:06

wow! only wish we had a john lewis

WestCountryLass · 26/02/2007 21:08

I love John Lewis

EllieKwithaHUGEbump · 26/02/2007 21:09

have to say mothercare did advise me on bucklecrunch tho, i had the britax that has 2 ways of routing it to make it possible to avoid bucklecrunch in any car as i told them i'd be using it in different cars. guess it depends on the training given in that particular store IYKWIM

Ok i am off to pair you lot up will post in the morning/afternoon or when ever I get back to my computer.

Wouldn't it be funny if I went into labour tonight.

WestCountryLass · 26/02/2007 21:11

As a by the by, I have totally overdone it today. I took DD to the zoo this morning, went home and did the chores, then picked DS up and went to Ikea and then Asda and by the time DH came home I could barely walk.

I am now in bed with a hot water bottle. Why do I "forget" I am 8 months pregnant with two kids??????

EllieKwithaHUGEbump · 26/02/2007 21:14

no 1b3, it would not be funny

just a thought, maybe it would be easier if we all just emailed one person, i.e you!, then you'd have all our email adds and could just email out partners? that way we wouldn't have to all post emails on here?

WestCountryLass · 26/02/2007 21:14

I'm sure it is mainly down to the individual salesperson as well. I do think John Lewis et al tend to ensure their salespeople are better advised. I don't think Halfords bother with training...

WestCountryLass · 26/02/2007 21:15

What is your EDD IB3?

EllieKwithaHUGEbump · 26/02/2007 21:23

i had friends that worked at halfords and no, they most definitely don't do training

maveta · 26/02/2007 21:27

What´s buckle crunch?? No one has even suggested looking at what car I have..

Ellie- yeah I saw that. Don´t really understand why they want to ban it and how they are going about it as there are TONS of nappies for sale on ebay. Anyway, had already been kindly pointed towards the nappy lady or the FOR SALE on MN for much much better deals on nappies so luckily not affected. Weird though.

Sexonslightlypuffylegs · 26/02/2007 21:27

Maveta, thanks for the advice re trying to get rid of the rib pain. I need to get dh to blow this ball up pdq. I do kneel on the floor and lean on the bed and that works for a while but it just comes back after a while. Hey ho,one of the joys of being pg.

Ellie, pmsl at the pips getting stuck in your nipples - what a gross thought!

Right, need some ice cream or summat sweet. Back later. x

eca · 26/02/2007 21:28

thank you soooo much WCL, Ellie and CD! What would I do without you people!!! Sis had just about picked one from HALFORDS!! Eeekk... Might steer towards JL for advice instead. Hadn't really thought about not being able to carry lo around in it if we get this 0-4 one. Mmmm. Not sure it's the best thing after all. Ok, am off to show dh all the links you put up Ellie. thanks again. You lot are amazing!
xx

EllieKwithaHUGEbump · 26/02/2007 21:33

maveta difficult to explain but i'll give it a go

a car seat is held in place by the seat belt in your car, there are 2 parts to a seat belt, the webbing and the buckle. the buckle is hard plastic so if that is the bit holding your seat in place and you had an accident it would just shatter, it needs to be the webbing that is in contact with the carseat. in some cars the buckle has a long piece of webbing attaching it to the car, in some it is shorter, which means that some seats will be ok in your car, some will end up with the buckle being in contact with the seat, so not all seats fit all cars.

EllieKwithaHUGEbump · 26/02/2007 21:34

take a look at this , might explain it better

WestCountryLass · 26/02/2007 21:39

Buckle crunch is when the seat belt buckle sits on the frame of the car seat and the buckle is under pressure so can possibly spring open if you have an accident:

runnyhabbit · 26/02/2007 21:51

I worked at Halfords for 8 years, and I most definatley had training on car seats, and I made sure that no member of staff gave advice on car seats unless they had completed their training, so am but not suprised at some peoples experiences. I know for a fact it varies from store to store. I bought my maxi cosi seat from Halfords, and believe me, if we had had any doubts on its fitting, we would not have bothered with them.

The Britax website is very good, but wasn't very up to date when we were looking for a car seat for ds.

I met dh in when I worked in Halfords.....he worked in the service centre and was covered in oil the first time I saw him

maveta · 26/02/2007 21:52

Thanks girls! I didn´t even know I had to look out for all of these things.

btw..what´s a fruitshoot? Asked on a chat thread but no answer and I´m genuinely curious..

liath · 26/02/2007 21:56

Maveta, the non-patronising answer to that (as opposed to the answer you got!) is a fruit drink by Robinsons that is generally held up for derision on MN as a sort of liquid poison that ignorant mums give their hapless offspring, thus condeming them to a life of misery & obesity.

It is pretty vile stuff, TBH but marketed as pseudo-healthy & very popular.

EllieKwithaHUGEbump · 26/02/2007 21:58

matthew's dad is convinced that fruit shoots make him hyper but they don't, and i should know!
I think they're ok as an occasional treat but not for everyday, but then that goes for most things i guess ........

Eddas · 26/02/2007 21:59

A fruitshoot is a drink.Sort of ready made squash

When i got my car seat from babies r us they didn't ask us anything about the car will read the links at work tomorrow as my computer is very slow as has a virus/viruses that i need to get rid of

maveta · 26/02/2007 22:03

aaaaah okay. thanks. I guess in that way we´re pretty lucky living here, there´s no where near the same amount of crap available as in the uk. which is rubbish if you´re looking for a sweet fix but on the whole more healthy. Sunflower seeds are a really popular snack here and there are more brands on sale in shops than crisps!

weeonion · 26/02/2007 22:07

eddas - we got our travel system from babies r us and the vey nice lady spent about 1/2 hour going over the car. quite thorough so i hope to god it is alright!

Eddas · 26/02/2007 22:10

WO, they are all in hiding whenever i go in there and can't be arsed to wait around!!! Plus i don't trust saturday kids advice

EllieKwithaHUGEbump · 26/02/2007 22:19

a lot of local councils do days where they check car seats to make sure they fit properly, might be worth looking into?
