Thought I would get there 1st!!!

Zooming in - almost finished housework and feeling less stressed out - poor DH, he came home to a very wound-up mummy when he got home for lunch - after almost driving into a wall on my way back from dropping him off at work (!!!!) and doing lots of cleaning and hoovering, I must say I am feeling better! Still got lots to do though .....

Zoom, Zoom, Zoom ........

ARGH - Can't remember anything anyone said, apart from MrsGV getting the wrong end of the stick ..... LOL!

Hope everyone else is ok!!

No, I'm currently finishing a punnet of raspberries. After a small box of chocolates.
Well it is my anniversary you know!
Causing trouble? Me? I'm hurt at the very thought.

Katy44 · 26/02/2007 19:38

It's probably a bit late to be asking this, but should I be eating raspberries? Or is it when breastfeeding you should avoid them?

Katy44 · 26/02/2007 19:39

raspberries give me indigestion.
Well you learn something new every day

EllieKwithaHUGEbump · 26/02/2007 19:46

didn't know we had to avoid raspberries at all?

why's that?

Katy44 · 26/02/2007 19:58

No, according to the british summer fruits website () "Eating raspberries helps prevents pregnancy problems and miscarriages due to their high content of folate"

Aren't you meant to avoid pippy stuff when breastfeeding? I think that's right

Katy44 · 26/02/2007 20:01

Ooh I meant to have a winge. NCT classes have been cancelled due to lack of interest
I know that's not the organiser's fault, but am annoyed, as we were originally told there would be some, then there wouldn't, then that there would be a breasfeeding session, then that was cancelled, then there would be AN classes, and now they're cancelled too!

Does anyone want to let me copy their homework?? Am going to the NHS ones but really wanted the in depth NCT ones as well.

EllieKwithaHUGEbump · 26/02/2007 20:06

never heard about avoiding pips when BF?

Stephen says is it cos the pips get stuck in your nipples?

honestly, this man has 4 children FFS!

CaptainDippy · 26/02/2007 20:17

another rant about us here

found it Katy!

eca · 26/02/2007 20:37

hey lovlies

just popping in to say hello and that i probably wont be around much this week as my sis is coming down to see me

Hi to Hellcat. I was at college in Sheffield (in fatc still am doing PhD at Shef Uni, but live in Norfolk (don't ask!)). Loved heading out into the Peak District to do some walking.

Happy birthday to people with b-days this week! Hope you have lovely days.

CD - well done on party!

GMM - welcome back!

I'm sure there was lots of other things, but brain is mush.

Had a manic day. Dh decided this morning was the morning to put up every frame, mirror and picture that we have bought over the last 2 years! It was stressful, but the house is finally looking lived in!! Then extra session of work this afternoon so that I can have a bit of time with my sis.

We are going car seat shopping (it's her gift to us). Anyone got any advice? Sis reckons she has found one at Halfords that does from birth to 4years. Is this possible, not seen any anywhere else??

EllieKwithaHUGEbump · 26/02/2007 20:44

hi Eca
there's lots that do birth to 4, see these ones

it really depends on what suits you, the birth to 4 are very heavy, we needed to swap between cars and was a complete pita so have kept it but will get a first stage one to start with

CaptainDippy · 26/02/2007 20:44

Hope you have a super time with your sis, Eca!! Never seen a car seat that does from birth to 4 yrs I dunno what to recommend - erm - just a car seat. I've got the attachment that went onto my Graco travel system and it is great. Choose something quite substantial, but not too heavy. Something with an easy mechanism for pushing the handle forward and backwards - oh, and something with an Autobase - BEST THING EVER EVER EVER!!!! However, for when they get a bit older, I recommend a car seat that turns into a booster - saves you £ in the long run!

OP posts:
CaptainDippy · 26/02/2007 20:46

Well I never knew that Ellie - You learn something new every day - Think I#d prefer to get something seperate for 1st stage though - nice and portable ....

OP posts:
EllieKwithaHUGEbump · 26/02/2007 20:46

dippy, can't believe you've never seen a birth to 4 seat

agree tho, if your lo is small enough to stay in the travel system kind of seat until they can go into a booster one it is better, unfortunately matthew was out of his by 4 months old!

one of my ex colleagues had a 4 yr old girl who was still in her 0-4 seat tho it is rare

EllieKwithaHUGEbump · 26/02/2007 20:49

basically eca your choice is start with this
and then move onto this or this

or just go with this from birth

Katy44 · 26/02/2007 20:50

Hellcat - I meant to say I was born at that hospital! Can't really remember it though

Didn't really understand the other thread and didn't see the reference to us. Made it easy to stay off it though!

CaptainDippy · 26/02/2007 20:50
  • Just thought - DH's mum & dad have got one of those birth to 4 yrs jobbies for their car - So I did know about them - Stupid Preg-Head!!!! (Shows how much DH's parents actually take the bloody children out though, doesn't it!!!?)

weeonion · 26/02/2007 20:53

katy44 - i am going to nct classes - an 8 week course and as for homework - i would happily share it with you if there was any! honestly - i havent learnt a thing from it! i have leant loads more on here and frfom reading stuff. the only real benefit has been meeting some mums in greater glasgow (none within my own area) the leader is a bit pants - she spends more time getting lost in what she is meant to be talking about and jumping from topic to topic. the group then spend more time trying to remind her or looking at each other with faces. not sure if it was worth the £120 but have set up an email group with the other mumstobe!

EllieKwithaHUGEbump · 26/02/2007 20:54

glad Katy, don't want you going into labour early cos they all wind you up!
basically i think the OP (opening paragraph) was refering to us, when you were comforting me and telling me to ignore MrsGV, for example

WestCountryLass · 26/02/2007 20:54

I've got a car seat that goes from birth - 4. It's a Britax:

www.britax.co.uk/ProductDetail.jsp?pid=7&cid=6&type=1

It goes rearward facing until baby is heavy/developed enough to go forward facing. It has removable padding and inserts to support a newborn.

Not sure what car you have but in my car (Astra) I cannot put it in the front because it has a high back and when it is rearward in the front it obscures your view. Obviously you can't put it in the front if you have non-removable airbags. Some people choose not to have children in the front anyway.

I bought my Britax because my DD outgrew her first carseat (one you can carry around) but was still too young for a forward facing seat. The only downside really is you cannot carry baby around in the seat or put baby in the front but it is a very good seat.

I've always found I do my research and choose a seat and then find when I go and get it fitted the one I chose does not fit my car. Also, I have had really bad advice from Mothercare and Halford about car seats and only really trust John Lewis to give me the best advice.

EllieKwithaHUGEbump · 26/02/2007 20:56

i found Halfords uuseless too WCL, and my local Mothercare were rubbish but the superstore were excellent, very helpful.

1becomes3 · 26/02/2007 20:56

Oh WCL glad your about, did you want me to add you onto the buddies list, wasn't sure as you did post on there but didn't leave your details?

Katy44 · 26/02/2007 20:58

Well I might read some more controversial threads at 38 weeks then

weeonion, thanks for letting me know about your NCT classes - I did wonder if reading the books was good enough. I'm pretty alone though so it would have been nice to meet some people areound here, but I suppose bumps n babies and the nhs classes will do for that.

EllieKwithaHUGEbump · 26/02/2007 20:58

and i had to do the same, he was too big for carryarouund seat way before he could go forward facing so had to go and spend small fortune on 0-4 seat, had thought about just using that this time but as baby will be going with his dad alot and seat will have to be swapped from car to car, have decided that the extra £50 for the seat to clip into pushchar base will be worth it.
