Thought I would get there 1st!!!

Zooming in - almost finished housework and feeling less stressed out - poor DH, he came home to a very wound-up mummy when he got home for lunch - after almost driving into a wall on my way back from dropping him off at work (!!!!) and doing lots of cleaning and hoovering, I must say I am feeling better! Still got lots to do though .....

Zoom, Zoom, Zoom ........

ARGH - Can't remember anything anyone said, apart from MrsGV getting the wrong end of the stick ..... LOL!

Hope everyone else is ok!!

Hi all have read but not retained as usual.

Happy Birthday Twinkle...it's mine in two daysFlowers Have a great day.

Hello HellCat welcome to our mad bunch

Can't remember who asked about weight gain I've put on just a stone so far I'm 34+1 today.

Can't remember anything else except thanks 1becomes3 for sorting out the buddies

Be back later xx

weeonion · 26/02/2007 13:09

happy birthday twinkle

hellcat - its wee as in smaller not as in the urine version tho' with the amount i seem to have been running to the loo during this pg - that might have been more apt!

can folks advise on paternity leave. dp's boss (brother) has now said that he is not prepared to be flexible with dates. he wants it booked today and once it is bokoed - there is no changing it, baby or not. we had wanted the full 2 weeks as much after the birth as possible as i will not have family / friends here to help out. i know there is no earthly way to know when this lo is gonna rrive so -
do oyu advise booking it to start a few days after EDD?? what about up to a week after.

i cant belive he is being such a git about this. we also now have to get the pram / cot etc out of his garage tonight as he wants to empty out boxes on the floor.

all this hufiness as a result of me telling him that the LO would never be named after him = as a joke on saturday. and they say that pg women are moody!!

zazas · 26/02/2007 13:10

Hello all. Happy Birthday Twinkle!!!

Very impressed CaptainDippy with making a birthday cake. It was my DD birthday last week and I couldn't muster the energy to get baking. As I explained to her it was only the second time I bought one in 9 birthdays - the other when I was pregnant with her brother! I don't find the baking bit hard it is the complex decorating around a theme that the kids want that taxes me!

No idea of my weight gain - haven't been weighed since first appointment. I find I don't put on much though through pregnancy as I am so short in the body that once the baby gets to a certain size there is no room for food anymore - it is a real struggle to eat - so it is more little little snacks - through the day. Drives me mad and makes me look forward to breastfeeding - when I feel hungry and can eat loads

Are definitely feeling knacked now (34weeks) but I do echo others in that I am not really wishing away these last few weeks beacuse as much as I am looking forward to the baby arriving - I know the reality of those first few weeks - when you are really, really, really knacked!

Birdiebump · 26/02/2007 13:21

Just thought people should know....

They're mixing it up again on another thread which I haven't linked to but has something about "antenatal & postnatal threads" in the title and the recent minty controversy is dredged up again. Luckily they then go on to arguing about a post-natal thread talking about solid food......

La, la, la.....

7weeksandcounting · 26/02/2007 13:23

Welcome Hellcat

Happy Birthday Tili

CD - thats a bit mean of dh's compnay - you could be early or late fgs! I would book it for later rather than earlier - he is entitled to 13 weeks parental leave by law but it is unpaid. My dh has told his company when I am due and that he is going to take 3 or 4 weeks off - he can also buy leave if he wants to. He also gets paid normally and not the statutory amount which is great. DH is hoping will be late so boys are back at school - so he actually gets a break too and spend time with Ernie! Must go buy myself some door letters for the nursery!

DS2 watching scooby doo with hands over ears - bless!!!!

DH has been in bed all morning with his cough - but it looks like he is a bit better - going to get him to watch ds2 for a bit and also after school so can get new school shoes for ds1.

Just had yummy carbonara with crispy pancetta - yummy

Time for another cup of tea and choc!

7weeksandcounting · 26/02/2007 13:24

I saw that one - decided to ignore it - some people are very sad indeed.

Hellcat · 26/02/2007 13:32

wee onion, your dp's brother is being a total arse, I thought my boss was a git...

Must be something to do with the name thing - Men are far more irrational and sulky than women when they going - they can take it right over the top, and now he's chucking your stuff out of his garage!!!

I am hoping the LO arrives early or on time as it fabulously coincides with schools easter holidays for 2 weeks - this teacher training things is relentless, and he can have time off but will still have to do the work....

DH also plans to go to a wedding in Hampshire (4 hours away) 3 days after EDD - even if LO still not out! ummm, see you then, hope you don't miss it!

7weeksandcounting · 26/02/2007 13:38

Surely dh can get a bit of time off for the baby if he speaks to his uni teachers - which part of his training will he be in? I'm sure they'll be fine with a couple of days out. As for the wedding - no f'ing way my dh would be going anywhere within weeks of my due date apart from work - and have agreed can play golf if leaves his phone on!

geordiemacminx · 26/02/2007 13:49

WO - was talking to do about this, and basically whether he is his brother or not, he is still entitled to paternity leave, and is still governed by the laws of the land regarding this matter. Obviously he doesnt want to have to start getting into legalities or getting all heavy handed but perhaps it might be as well doing a little internet-ski research, present him with it and inform him that he will be taking the 2 weeks from the day after the baby is born, and thats that..

Hellcat · 26/02/2007 13:52

Hey 7 weeks, my dh doesn't have a bl**dy mobile!

He has no f*g idea, I am going to start reading 'birth' to him in preparation for the ante natal classes

Yeah, I think he can get time out of school, but will still have to complete written assignments and stuff... his course finishes in June - I planned for it to take at least 3 months to get pregnant, not 5 minutes!

Its going to be hectic: new parents new baby, dh currently working until late most nights, teaching all day and will be needing his sleep.....

yikes.

muminabigtumi · 26/02/2007 14:27
  • I'm sure I put myself on the buddy list the other day - big sorries!
Just off to do the food shop but wanted to pop in with my exciting news! Phil got offered a new job this morning - so excited for him and it is more £ THANK GOD!!! I am so relieved - takes pressure off a bit when LO arrives.

Will post more later

Sexonslightlypuffylegs · 26/02/2007 14:33

Hiya ladies. Just a quickie.

MIABT, big congrats to your dh - really good news.

WO, the regulations re paternity leave are:

  1. Father of the child must have been employed by his company for at least 26 weeks by the 15th week before baby is due.
  1. The leave must be taken within 56 days of the baby being born.
  1. The 2 weeks has to be taken in a 2-week block- cannot be 1 week and then some time later another week iyswim.

With regards to setting the date when it starts, we are flexible here about that I have to say.

Hope that helps a bit.

Hi to everyone else. HTH x

weeonion · 26/02/2007 14:50

sopl - ta for that. the emails have been fast and furious on this today! we know what we are entitled to - its more the matter of deciding on dates to start from!

runnyhabbit · 26/02/2007 15:03

Afternoon all

Only 16 hours of work left

Miabt - great news about dh

Hellcat - welcome to the madhouse

GMM - glad you had a good trip

Think ds has got the dreaded snotty lurgy very runny nose, and feeling very sorry for himself.

WO - pita about paternity leave dh's MD has been quite understanding lately about the impending arrival. Shame dh's direct manager isn't the same. His manager wanted to send dh to Belgium over the next few weeks but MD turned around and completely overuled him. Dh said it wasn't very professional, but quite amusing to hear the MD tell his manager to use his common sense, and you don't send a dad to be abroad a few weeks before the birth. The manager was more pee'd off becuase it means he has to go himself and actually do some work.

I have the best mum! She has given me a huge sack (think Christmas!) full of baby & new mum essentials. packs of nappies, new slippers, breast pads, new born vests and sleepsuits, etc. She must've been doing it for ages. Bless her

xx

liath · 26/02/2007 15:04

WO, what a difficult situation. Dh has to pre-book paternity leave too, ridiculous really when the average gestation is 37-42 weeks, how on earth can you guess when a baby is going to come?

Last time DH went off at around 3 days after my due date. I had dd at 7 days over so by the time I came out of hospital DH only had a week of leave left which wasn't enough really (esp as MIL then pitched up to "help" once DH was back at work, but that's another rant). This time he's starting paternity leave at 6 days over but my parents live an hours drive away so I won't be totally stranded.

My middle sister who is also stupidly married to a doctor is in London with no family support nearby and her DH has booked leave from a week overdue BUT I think my mum is going to stay with her until he is off.

I guess it depends on how flexible things could be so that he could be with you in labour whatever and whether you have a family tendancy of going overdue. Have you sorted out transport yet??

Congrats to Phil, MIABT - great news! Happy Birthday Twinkle and welcome new folk.

weeonion · 26/02/2007 15:17

runny - how lovely of yr mum! what a dote - a bit of a hamper hoarded! lucky you and only 16 hrs left - has the clock watching started yet?? was it yr dh who ws up in glasgow recently - how did he get on?

liath - hey to you! still no arrangements re getting me to the hospital. i really could see me trying to squeeze myself into the baby's carrier and dp having to strap it on to trek to the labour ward!

nuttygirl · 26/02/2007 15:31

Hi all

Welcome Hellcat.

Happy birthday Twinkle.

Sorry took me a long time to catch up.

Re paternity leave, government website says you can request it to start the day the baby is born. So DHs bro will just have to accept that. Here's the link

Had a crappy weekend cos I ddin't sleep well at all, sore legs and back at night. Had a friend staying and so walked about quite a bit which made back more sore and DH was so unhelpful. Fell out with him on Sunday but made up later on.

Really cos DH picked up the car on Thursday and on Friday night some little buggers nicked a hub cap.....

IsabellyMoi · 26/02/2007 15:36

If you want to read a lovely, mostly-happy thread that will make you cry, check out the 'best bits of childbirth' thread in the Childbirth section. Made me cry and look forward to delivery more.

Welcome Hellcat!

I know this is ancient news - but well done, author Bugmum! I think we are all very impressed

Weight gain (33+4): about 16 pounds (a little over a stone).

Hope everyone is well. Congrats to all those almost done work - what a lovely feeling!

nuttygirl · 26/02/2007 15:36

but if his company are going to pay him more than the statutory amount then I guess the company could insist on him picking a date.

DHs company only pay the statutory amount and as we can't afford for DH to take 2 weeks off in one month he's having to take the second week as holiday.

weeonion · 26/02/2007 16:03

ta for the info folks. wouldnt mind as much but his boss is his bro!

nutty - bad news on the hubcap. that kind of thing can really hack me off - especially as yrs is just a new car!

1becomes3 · 26/02/2007 16:08

Welcome hellcat.

WO- can't believe how childish your BIL(ish) is being he should be helping and supporting the both of you, sounds like he needs a good kick up the arse.
Sorry bit harsh I know but it really pee's me off when family start getting funny for no reason.

mammyjo · 26/02/2007 16:08

Hi all.

Nutty, what a pita that someone has nicked the hubcap.

Twinkle, Happy Birthday! Hope you have a lovely day. at your flowers. If dh bought me flowers I think I would faint.

Hellcat, welcome to the club. Not too long to go now!

SOSPL, think you are right about the minty sperm unfortunately. Chewy rennies just dont do the job. Congrats to you and Birdie for several dry nights in a row with the dc's.

WO, shame that your BIL is being so difficult. Hope you can get things sorted out with him in the end.

MIABT, great news re dh and his new job.

Runny, what a lovely mum you have getting you a bag of goodies! My mum is getting herself stressed over the fact that she hasnt bought anything much so far! With ds we had nothing and so needed every thing for him whereas this time, all the big stuff will be reused. Dont really need anything much as I keep telling her!

I am feeling very relieved this afternoon. I had a hospital ante natal appointment and I actually got to see my consultant. He has said that I will definitely get antibiotics during labour due to my past history of ds and his group b strep infection. I am so pleased as it has been such a worry. Everyone I have spoken to has just fobbed me off and I was starting to get very worked up about things the nearer my due date was looming. Really dont want to go through with this baby what I went through with ds being very sick.

mammyjo · 26/02/2007 16:14

Forgot to say I had a quick conversation with a lady (friend of a friend type thing) who claims to have psychic abilities. She reckons I am having a girl as she could see me having one of each and since I have ds already that only leaves one option! She also said that I will go full term (poo) and that I wont be having any more after this one. That suits me fine as I wasnt planning a third anyway! Will wait and see if she is right about the rest!

nuttygirl · 26/02/2007 16:15

Mammyjo - glad you got to see your consultant and that everything is getting sorted. It must put your mind at ease.

Well I'll be setting off to my 2nd antenatal class soon. Hope we do a bit more than the last one - most of the stuff she told us I already knew from being on here!!! The tour of the delivery suite was good tho. Also really uncomfy at the moment so don't really feel like going. All I wanna do is have a nice long soak in the bath!

CD - can't wait to see the pics....v impressed at you making the cake yourself!

geordiemacminx · 26/02/2007 16:22

Have addded a holiday pic if anyone is interested!! xxx
