esme good idea about getting coloured muslins so you can see which are clean ones!

bright I'm outraged for you!!!! Are they offering free counselling?

Loving all these Aldi bargains, well done ladies!! They will do it again don't they? Guessing I haven't missed the boat and either they or Tescos etc will do one?

My main thing has been sorting out our bedroom as it was full of old furniture and crap after renovation (mighty you may relate?) so got a new cheapo bed from Ikea. Got kingsize for family snuggles Smile

Rustler74 · 20/01/2017 09:06

Good morning ladies!
Going to John Lewis on Sunday for a good amount of advice hopefully. Not gonna bother them with car seat questions as I'm going to In Car Safety Centre on Monday for that purpose.
Wondering if I'm planning to breastfeed, do I have to have a breastpump? I'm told I may be able to rent one instead.
Everything equipment wise is just so expensive and it all runs up towards £600-700 easily!
Thinking of buying the cotbed from JL but not sure if they have what we like. OH would like to see before buying but nowhere stocks up on cot beds properly! This Sunday is the first time he's actually going to be involved in looking at stuff, so im hopeful that he will start getting involved into that area a bit more.
Thinking of going to Aldi today to see what's left. Bought myself a gorgeous coat yesterday down to £15.00 from £69.00 at JojoMamanBébé! I deserved it!

Adventuregame · 20/01/2017 09:07

I think Tesco has a baby event on at the moment too - my mum got a lovely moses basket for when I visit them so I don't have to pack the car up with everything !! And Aldi event is supposed to be 4 a year so I reckon there should be another one in April ?

Brill thanks adventure :)

Ooooh rustler that's good is it maternity? Still looking for a 3 in 1 maternity/baby wearing coat. The ones I ordered were nice but too pricey for the moment Confused

lullaby23 · 20/01/2017 09:51

rustler only need a pump if you're planning to give a bottle whether that's an evening dream feed type deal to fill 'em up (in theory!), so someone else can give you a break while you pop out or if you want to get DH involved. I got a Medela Swing for around £100 but as PP pointed out it's not a closed system, it was fine for me pumping once a day for 3 or 4 months. You can always leave it until you see how BFing goes, some say don't give a bottle for first 6 weeks or so until your supply is more established.

EsmesBees · 20/01/2017 11:42

rustler the people who rent pumps tend to be those who need 'hospital grade' ones, so expensive but powerful ones, generally on medical advice. For most people, a shop bought hand held or electric one works fine. You can buy them second hand but it's recommended you replace the parts where bacteria builds up. I had a medela swing and it was good but annoying to clean.

Brightsmoke · 20/01/2017 12:00

Boots have a 70% off sale on some items today :)

Rustler74 · 20/01/2017 12:04

Badgerbird yes it is! They're also online and deliver to your home or to wherever you tell them to!

MrsJW15 · 20/01/2017 12:05

Just found a tankini on JoJo for £10. Bargain!

KLane · 20/01/2017 12:06

Anyone have recommendations for good quality over-the-bump skinny black trousers or black jeans? I've been loving the ASOS Ridley under the bump trousers, but they've started cutting into the bump a bit. I ordered the over the bump variety and the faux button closure way too high- cuts into the bump even more! I wear them nearly every day so don't mind spending a bit on them, but haven't had much luck finding comfy ones!

RasperryInAMelon · 20/01/2017 12:23

KLane my mothercare ones are super comfy!

peasandquiet · 20/01/2017 14:01

We rented a hospital grade pump because I was expressing every feed. I have a swing but it wasn't up to 2 boobs 8x a day! Fingers crossed this bubs will latch and then I will just use the swing for 1x feed a day after a few weeks.

I got a huge bargain today, bought a toddler car seat with nearly £250 off as its discontinued and was their last one, it was the floor model but is immaculate. I'm so happy with it as it spins! Going to use in my husband car for our son until we need it for the baby in a year or so's time. Just an xtra baby seat base for my car needed now and we are all set for car travel till the baby is 4 😊

peasandquiet · 20/01/2017 14:03

Also Klane I never got on with trousers or jeans at all with first pregnancy. This time I have some ASOS over the bump jeans on loan from a friend which I think are comfy. Would say your best bet is to do a big order online and try a load on and send them back. Asos is good for that!

Rustler74 · 20/01/2017 16:00

Just got back from Aldi, having spent £120 on loads of stuff including - Moses basket with sheets included and stand

  • sleepsuits
  • body suits
  • muslins
-swaddle blankets
  • nappies in first 3 sizes and wipes
  • teething comforters
Also been to Asda but started to get tired so limited to -ear thermometer
  • mini food processor for £10
  • bibs
All together good bargains. Asda had a lot more on offer than I bought but I will need to wait until after pay day. Is anyone going to have a wish list? John Lewis and Mothercare do them now but I don't think that they are what people in uk do?

My JoJo maternity'work' pants are so comfy, def recommend them. Also mothercare yoga over the bump are nice and soft material.

teainbed · 20/01/2017 16:04

I've got Gap skinny black trousers and Seraphine jeans they're both 'performing' really well!

Just got a pair of pyjamas each from Seraphine and Jojo, hope I won't need any more maternity clothes.

RasperryInAMelon · 20/01/2017 16:18

Rustler I've done a mothercare wish list.

I know it's not for everyone, but my girlfriends have said they've all been chatting and want to throw a baby shower in April, so they've asked for a wish /guidance list on things they can get that we won't be buying ourselves.

1004Rise · 20/01/2017 17:04

Rustler we're going to do a John Lewis wishlist once we've been for an appointment, more so we have a list in one place (as opposed to in my head!) than to give to people for present ideas... we have a lot of knitters in our family so we'll get lots that way (not me I hasten to add!! Grin)

I need to buy a party dress for my cousin's wedding on the 21st April, don't want to spend a fortune in case I don't make it, also trying to decide if I'm brace enough to go bright in my usual style in the hope that I will only be the size of a small house Grin I think after that I'm hoping I don't need anymore maternity clothes.... I can highly recommend Seraphine over the bump trousers and jeans, thought they're a bit more expensive they wear and wash really well!

FoxMulder · 20/01/2017 18:07

Rustler I wouldn't say a pump is essential. I was given one and pumped occasionally to have an emergency freezer stash but never needed it. Used it on DS's weetabix once he was on solids! I had assumed before having him that I would want to give a bottle at some point but it never came up.

1004Rise · 20/01/2017 19:44

I think we might have talked about this before but I can't find it in the threads.... if you express milk and you put it in the fridge for later, how do you heat it up again? Have images of exploding breast milk in the microwave Blush

Streaky17 · 20/01/2017 19:46

rustler I went to asda to look for the ear thermometer as it was £20 online but it was still full price in store - when I eventually found it. So I wasn't sure what was going on. Is that the one you got?

I got some of the usual stuff in aldi yesterday including a v pillow. Smile
Such an expensive business!

Sonnet18 · 20/01/2017 19:55

rise you can heat it (and formula) in a bottle warmer or a tub of boiled water.

I had a breast pump last time but didn't use it a lot. It was an electric tommee tippee one it took at least 25 mins to get around 30ml of milk per boob!! I just didn't have the patience to sit still for 50 mins with my boobs out all for one feeding. Don't think I'll be doing it this time round!

MrsJW15 · 20/01/2017 19:56

I'm still buying maternity stuff. I haven't bought any tops for work yet, seeing how long mine last for. I'm mostly looking in the sales at the moment.

I'm doing a wish list - Amazon and Mothercare so far, may do John Lewis. We might have a baby shower, and I think some of mum's friends will buy stuff. From my wedding experience, I think it's better to have a list, so people can at least look at it. I'm sure not everyone will though! It also helps me to remember what I want.

savagehk · 20/01/2017 19:57

1004 it doesn't need to be very warm (body temperature) and some babies may take it cold. Easiest is in a container of warm/hot water IMO, didn't particularly like the idea of microwaving it myself.

RasperryInAMelon · 20/01/2017 20:40

Rise I'm looking at the Tommee Tippee Express and Go Bottle and Pouch warmer

Nursery question - how many sets of bedding should we have?? Confused

savagehk · 20/01/2017 20:47

rasperry that's again very dependent on whether your baby is sicky or not (or if your nappies leak overnight or not). As we ended up cosleeping with him in bed with us... one set... but as he was never sick while sleeping and never weed out of his nappy we could have made do with 2 even if he'd slept full time in his cot (one spare, one on the mattress). If your baby is sicky... you could go through 3 sets in a bad night!
