Looks awesome bright! Now panicking that I haven't finished clearing our clothes out....or stripped wallpaper....or ripped old carpet up..... best get a move on!!

RasperryInAMelon · 10/01/2017 18:22

Awwww looks lovely Bright! Stupid question, where in relation to the cot is the door and a radiator? I'm in a pickle as to where to put my cot due to the layout of the room... 🤔

RasperryInAMelon · 10/01/2017 18:27

Is that the Mothercare glider bright?

peasandquiet · 10/01/2017 18:29

Bright it's lovely! I loved having the nursery ready 1st time around, I used to just go and sit in there once I was on mat leave ! this time around so far we have done nothing to sort the spare room, it's full of my husbands clothes - hopefully will get it all sorted out around Easter time and then I've worked out I'm going to finish working at end of April so will then sort all the baby clothes and arrange everything! Still wondering if I should get another cot bed now, I'm not ready for my 1st born to be in a big bed ... goes waaaay too fast!
No idea on the other benefits red/raspberry just know about CB as we are borderline with bonuses so never bothered claiming it as would probably end up paying it back.

Sonnet18 · 10/01/2017 18:39

Doubt you'll get working tax credits as you probably earn too much. I earn £36k and do not qualify for them but others may do.

Pics look lovely bright! All our furniture is built but still to do the wall art and get the little extras like curtains and mobile etc. It's such an exciting time, isn't it?!

RasperryInAMelon · 10/01/2017 18:49

I've just had a call from DH - the decorator has been in... £360 😩 in fairness that's to paper all the walls, paint the ceiling, skirting boards and door - but plus the £250 carpet - this little girlie wants to count herself very lucky!... although I'm secretly excited about spending much of my Mat Leave sat in there chilling out 😘

peasandquiet · 10/01/2017 18:56

That sounds pretty reasonable raspberry, could your husband do some of it himself to save some cash? Especially with getting a new carpet he can make a mess on the floor and it doesn't matter!

FoxMulder · 10/01/2017 18:56

Tax credit cutoff is close to 20k combined but honestly I think they make it up on the spot.

RasperryInAMelon · 10/01/2017 18:58

He's hopeless peas 🙈** I personally wouldn't have bothered with the ceiling, skirting boards and doors tbh... but the guy has been doing DHs family home for years and is following suit with what MIL usually has done I guess

FoxMulder · 10/01/2017 18:58

This little one is not even having a nursery. God knows what we'll do when it's time for it to leave our room! I'll cross that bridge when I come to it.

Brightsmoke · 10/01/2017 18:59

It will be so worth the money when it's done though Rasperry! We have the cot in the middle of the room, the door is behind me in the pic of the chair, and radiator is under the window. Bed was going to be against the wall where the stickers are, but then read threads about smearing Poo all over the walls, so decided on it being in the middle until it's past that stage 😂 It's a baby weaver one, by kiddicare I think and it's so comfy!!

Definitely an exciting time Sonnet, we were lucky and got all the bedding and matching bits when it was on sale in mothercare. I'm so tempted to put the dog in the bugaboo and push him around, would that look more bizarre than an empty pram? (He's a collie so not small 😂 And would probably kill me if I embarrassed him like that 🙊)

Sonnet18 · 10/01/2017 19:05

Haha! bright my cat test rode the silver cross around the garden last year! He wasn't impressed but I thought it was very cute! I say get the dog in and give it a shot!
Our dd's cot is against the wall and (so far) no poo smearing! She's a relatively clean little thing at bed time- it's during the day that she's a mucky little monster!!
raspberry that's a lot of money but will be worth it! We did our own last year (well, actually it was me who did it all- including the stripping of the wallpaper!!) as DH was dragging his heels and I did it one day he was at work! It's not perfect but the wall art and furniture cover any slightly ropey bits!

EsmesBees · 10/01/2017 19:55

Looks lovely bright. Although don't worry too much about the poo. Mine is almost two and neither she or any of her little friends have done that yet.

Also not sure about getting a second cot bed peas. DD sleeps well in hers so don't want to move her. On the other hand, things could be very different by the time number 2 grows out of her crib.

IAmSeriousAndDontCallMeShirley · 10/01/2017 21:00

Evening everyone. I lost this thread for a bit (app issues). So just saying hello, marking my place, and will have a read and see what I have missed. Xx

RasperryInAMelon · 10/01/2017 21:10

I think if we were just painting we'd have done it ourselves. But we're having patterned wallpaper on one wall so best to let the pros do it!

PeachIcedT · 10/01/2017 21:32

I found wallpapering so much more difficult than I thought when I moved in! Mostly because with a large pattern repeat you have to match it so accurately. That said, if it's just one wall you are papering I'd be seriously tempted to do that if I had the time. Plain paper would be very straightforward on the rest, I've had success doing that in my hall, even managed to take the radiator off myself to do behind that (can't rely on DH for DIY either). But worth weighing up the time and effort it might take you to do.

Badgerbird · 10/01/2017 22:35

Oooh I've just ordered this maternity/baby wearing coat in their sale! My coat is too tight Blush They seem to have some nice maternity and baby bits in the sale too :) http://m.vertbaudet.co.uk/Navigation/Produit/001000021?taille=012&fc=6559

Badgerbird · 10/01/2017 23:10

nurse I'm soooooo looking forward to that point!! Just want to know my baby's safe :)

Lovely news about scans lullaby, buffy & *tantrum!

That's good fox, pleased to hear it :) I'm not on Facebook... I may go back on though to catch up with you guys and join local selling and baby groups!

peas* do you know if that (child benefit) goes for self employed too? We'll be on 1 salary aprox 20k no mat pay but savings and maternity allowance.

bright that looks gorgeous Smile how exciting!! Our nursery (formerly known as the Hell Hole!) has been stripped, plastered, painted and new double glazing. We've just gotta fit skirtings and paint woodwork then ready to dec it out :) And I wanna see your doggy in the buggy!!!

No poo smearing here either! DS is in a sleeping bag and hasn't worked out how to get out of it yet. His room only has one wall (two windows, fitted wardrobe and sofa by the wall) so is by a window but far enough a way that he can't grab the curtain.

I'm assuming DC2 will be in the snuzpod for 6-8 months by which time DS will be 2.5+ and hopefully ready for a toddler bed, don't want to have two big cots on the go if we can help it.

Sorry can't help with the benefits/child allowance stuff but it all sounds very complicated and confusing.

Gurtie28 · 11/01/2017 07:24

I suddenly have a huge fear of being on my own during mat leave. I could cry everytime I think about it.
I feel like DH only have 2 weeks paternity leave is not long enough at all...and after that, that's it, all on my own with a tiny baby. All friends and family will be at work mon - fri. I feel like I'm going to be overwhelmed and lonely.
Any new mums feel the same? And advice from ladies that have done this before?

IAmSeriousAndDontCallMeShirley · 11/01/2017 07:49

Hi Gurtie, I think it's a completely normal fear. I was quite nervous of the time when pregnant with my daughter. But when she arrived it realised yiinare actually kept quite busy with a new baby.

Things like weighing sessions, breast feeding support groups, and any other groups you find fill more time than you would think. I also had the radio on a lot at home so it wasn't too quiet. I enjoyed our 1:1 time, and found some awesome classes (baby sensory, massage, swimming) after the 6 week check. Xx

mrspage1985 · 11/01/2017 07:55

Morning all, 20 week scan this morning, a bit nervous but hoping for the best. We already know it's a little boy, just hoping the anomaly scan part goes well. Fingers crossed x

1004Rise · 11/01/2017 08:07

Good luck with your scan today mrspage

Gurtie I don't think I've even thought that far ahead Blush I think I might be purposefully not thinking about any of it to avoid freaking out. The sensible side of my brain says we'll be that busy working out what we're supposed to do (and taking 2hrs to get out the house the first few times) that we won't really have time to think about being on our own... and we'll get midwife/health visitor visits too. Given how talkative we've all been on here so far there's always us to talk to Grin

Been feeling first proper kicks this week and last night DH was able to feel too. The look on his face was priceless!! So happy to actually be able to share with him properly Grin

EsmesBees · 11/01/2017 08:12

Gurtie you'll be fine. It's worth trying to find some local friends with babies the same age though. Either through antenatal classes, or FB (or Raspberry's spreadsheet). Makes a real difference having someone to walk round the park and talk about sleep patterns with in the early days.

Good luck mrspage!
