Tea we want to move too, hopefully will have the house on the market by the end of this month, they are selling relatively quickly round here.... then the challenge is finding something that we can afford further south. DH will also be starting a new job but we don't know where yet... We figured we'd do all the hard stuff (new house, new job, new baby) all at once to get it out of the way HmmAt least the lease on my company car doesn't run out til September so we don't have to think too much about that.

My mum keeps saying it's a lot so remember to ask for help, then she remembers she moved when she was about 36/37 weeks pregnant with my little brother (Dad got a new job Wink) so really it's just a repeat!! Grin

1004Rise · 08/01/2017 12:15

No baby shower for me either, HATE being the centre of attention and family all abit far, thankfully no friends would organise it for me either (I'm just generally antisocial Hmm) One of my cousins is getting married at the end of April so will see lots of family then!

RasperryInAMelon · 08/01/2017 12:26

Emse we're getting one for the nursery, I just can't decide on a nice comfy arm chair or a Mothercare gliding recliner that comes with a footstool. It'll be nice to have somewhere to sit and feed and in future be able to sit and read bedtime stories.

Tea we rally wanted to before LO arrives, but (as terrible as it sounds) we're waiting for some inheritance to come through, so may not be viable until she's about 9months. I think the next move is likely to be our forever home so hopefully a 4 bed, but we'll see!

lullaby23 · 08/01/2017 13:34

I'm not sure if a specific nursing chair is needed or if a nice armchair and foot stool would do but I have not tested the comfort levels so can't say for sure! We have a little sofa in DS's room but I did all the night feeds in our room until he moved out at 7 months. Lying down feeding worked for us for a few months which made life easier but hard when they're very tiny. Agree sitting up in bed is very hard on the back unless you have all the pillow propping you up!

We moved when DS was 3 months old but luckily we were able to get the movers to pack up everything and DH did all the unpacking. We are likely to come back to the UK to our house either in the summer or at the end of the year, it will be nice to be home but not looking forward to the logistics. We want to move to a bigger house one day too but it will be a few years down the line.

lucieloos · 08/01/2017 13:54

Dh put up the cot and wardrobe in the nursery today. It's looking good and we have more room than I thought so I think I'm going to look for a comfy smallish chair rather than a proper nursing one. Off to John Lewis soon to order the pushchair and a couple of other bits! Exciting day.

PeachIcedT · 08/01/2017 14:18

This thread moves at lightning speed! I can't keep up but it's great how active we are!

I'm also a little undecided on NCT as it seems so expensive, also the dates for the more comprehensive course seems to skip out mid-May due dates at my local one, which is exactly what my due date is. I don't think I can even book NHS ones until 24 weeks.

I won't be doing a baby shower as it's just not my thing, but having just come back now from an afternoon tea today which was lovely I could see that being a good option, I would also specify no presents!

Grow, not sure on the adding more lining paper but in my study it was very uneven and I bought this paint then evened the surface up first and then painted colour on top of it. Could this work in your case?

Tea I am looking to move, but haven't really done much about it, I think I'm in line to pay a hefty early repayment charge if I move this year. I figured moving would be easier before rather than after the baby but I wouldn't be able to lift anything to help when pregnant. Good luck to all those moving imminently!

I'm quite pleased as have bought a second hand snuzpod from ebay for £80, just need to collect it now. I've really fallen for that small piece of furniture!

RasperryInAMelon · 08/01/2017 14:44

Don't know if anyone else has seen the thread today about 'what your children call you'

Does anyone have intentions of their kids calling you by your first name or are you mummy and daddy?

teainbed · 08/01/2017 14:49

Esme I found I fed in bed the most, also lying on my side quite a bit. And then when feeding was established I wanted to be in the lounge with the TV and phone rather than in the bedroom. I think they sound ideal for snuggly bedtime stories and if you had any back or joint issues they would get you really comfy, in practice it just didn't get used much for me though.

Lots of us looking to move then! I don't want to go too far as my older children are very settled in their schools so just waiting to pounce when the right property comes up. Grin

Sonnet18 · 08/01/2017 15:09

I didn't buy a nursing chair for dd as she was in our room for a while but then we ended up buying a rubbish cheap chair for her room, which is quite ugly and didn't go with the decor! It's gone now as she no longer feeds in her room but a chair would be lovely for stories and for feeding new baby. I'm completely unsure what to buy. The nursery is relatively large so got plenty room for a larger chair. Will be interested to hear what others buy.

raspberry my children call us mummy and daddy- don't want them getting confused and thinking we are their friends or their peers!!

INeedNewShoes · 08/01/2017 15:15

My cousins have always called their parents by their first names. I've always found it really weird!

Is it some sort of statement of people keeping their identity as a person in their own right rather than losing their identity to being 'mummy'?

I just don't get it but feel I might be missing something!

PeachIcedT · 08/01/2017 15:16

Rasperry I will go down the mummy and daddy route (my name is too much for a young child to say anyway!) - but my parents never made the switch from 'mummy and daddy' to 'mum and dad' cue lots of awkwardness for all of us as teens and adults still referring to 'mummy'. Was a habit I had to break. I'm determined to introduce the term 'mum' well in time for teen time.

McBaby · 08/01/2017 16:10

Love my nursing chair great for late pregnancy when my spd is v bad. It also helped soothing my two to sleep when they were v little.

I also breastfed them both to sleep every night for about a year so used it every night in their rooms.

bertiebunny · 08/01/2017 16:22

Rasperry we will be mummy and daddy for sure. I always find the first name thing a bit odd.. Is it more a public school thing?

Don't think I'll go for a baby shower either we will have a little gathering at work as is tradition and maybe I'll do a lunch but I like the idea of a meet the baby BBQ / drinks when they're here.

I haven't sorted the nursery yet, I have a large king size divan to shift. (Leeds any takers?) Then I have either a spare chaise or chair to use for feeding etc whichever I don't use will go. My friend had a feeding chair but didn't use it so I figure I'll just reuse something instead.

Were def not moving - we have a lot of odd furniture bits after a house extension and redecoration earlier this year so we just need to sort the nursery. Good luck to those embarking on a move, our friends moved and renovated during the arrival of their first last year and it was v stressful for them - they ended up living with us for a while, so just have a plan b in case you need a bridge!

So pram shortlist is proving too difficult...so I've moved on to weighing up a sleepyhead and a cocoonababy. Ideally we would like to use these rather than a moses basket. Would that work? Did anyone use these first time round? Neither are cheap but I like the idea of them. Although the Moba looks really cool...
We don't want to go overboard! Grin

Rustler74 · 08/01/2017 16:50

Hey speed of light ladies!
Wow don't know what to say first... I've been looking forward to come back home and look to the thread how fast it has moved!
I'm thinking of getting a simple ikea Poäng chair with foot stool. They're reasonable in price and I'll get one in MK ikea whenever I go to the In Car Safety Centre to get car seat advice.
Raspberry I'll be Mama with the accent on the first syllable (can't bear ma-maaa) and I'm hoping that my BH will settle for Papa, but he's feels no more for Dad or Daddy as he used to call his dear grandfather Papa.

We are renting and our contract runs out in June so we either renew another year if the landlady will have us with a baby or we need to start looking for somewhere else to live. Seen that we are a fairly new couple and at our age, buying will at least be a challenge so we hope to stay in this lovely flat for now. Decorating the nursery will not be one of our worries, just furnishing it. I'm looking out for cot beds and I'm thinking that we may get to use the cradle that my BH's brother and his wife had for their baby, for the first 3-6 months. For the living room I have a 'playpen' which consists of a wooden square box 1m x 1m with spindles and adjustable bottom. They don't use them so much in UK but on the continent they're quite common.

MissMooMoo · 08/01/2017 17:07

I will be mummy I think.

We went to John Lewis today for the nursery service, I think DH felt it overwhelming. We have gone for the icandy raspberry pram. Was a toss up between the raspberry and the bee and in the end the raspberry won as its slightly lighter and the handle extends a bit more and DH is over 6ft so that was important.

EsmesBees · 08/01/2017 17:45

Hmmm. So mixed reviews on the nursing chair. The IKEA option sounds good. It's not for until she moves out of our room anyway so will have a while.

Got a very cheap Phil and Ted's double off FB. Very happy. Horrible colour but I'm beyond caring about that!

bertie we had a sleepyhead that went in our bed initially and then in the bednest. We didn't use it downstairs much because we have cats.

1004Rise · 08/01/2017 18:35

We already have one of the Ikea chairs in the lounge, I think it'll make it's way into our bedroom then the nursery when we move the lo through there. I can't see me feeding in bed, too worried I'd fall asleep. So I think the Ikea chair with one of my DM's cosy quilts is the way I'll go Smile

Can't think why you'd want your children to call you anything other than mummy/daddy (mum/dad) but maybe I'm missing something...

teainbed · 08/01/2017 19:01

The children are often the ones who decide what they call you! And what they call the grandparents.

peasandquiet · 08/01/2017 19:11

Busy busy day on the thread! We have been out visiting family so no fun baby shopping for me!
We have an armchair and footstool which has been in my sons room since birth, we use it every night for stories we've slept in it when he's poorly. He fed in the night till 7 months so it got plenty of use. Think your either a sit in the nursery type person or your not, I hear so many people say it was as waste of money as they never used it and I just wonder how!
Will be having a chair in the new nursery for sure.
Need to decide when I want to go on Mat leave as time is ticking towards 25 weeks, my first was a Feb baby so I went off at Xmas and had a good break before using up holiday as our year is April to April , not sure if I need the same this time as I'm part time ahh too much to think about money wise to make a decision!

FoxMulder · 08/01/2017 19:11

I didn't know people had baby showers in the UK!

EsmesBees · 08/01/2017 19:33

I need to do that too peas. I worked right til the end last time to maximise the time at the other end. The last couple of weeks were hard going. On the other hand, i was very bored for the 10/days overdue. So basically, not sure what I'm going to do.

McBaby · 08/01/2017 20:00

You can pick up second hand nursing chairs for about £20 on eBay.

MrsJW15 · 08/01/2017 20:14

Wow this does move fast!

We have been debating moving, but our current plan is to stay in our two bed flat for now, and start looking for something bigger towards the end of the year. I don't want to move with a tiny baby, but I think that this place will start to feel small.

On that basis, we are not redecorating our spare room - and I'm not planning to get a nursing chair just yet. I do rather like the look of them though, and so I hope we manage to buy a bigger house that we can fit in a proper chair in at some point.

I've been debating baby showers today - contemplating just organising a get together in the pub for men and women as I feel a bit weird about gender segregating!

Barnes79 · 08/01/2017 20:46

12 hours until my 20w scan Confused Just starting to get the "is it still alive" worries - especially as my appetite has come back and I'm not feeling as big/bloated after eating. On the plus (?!?) side, I had a painful nights sleep last night so at least some of my pregnancy symptoms are still there...

1004Rise · 08/01/2017 21:42

Good Luck tomorrow Barnes try to get a good night's sleep. It's exciting to know you're going to dare your bouncing baby tomorrow, try not to worry too much.

Can anyone recommend a good nipple cream, back to really itchy nipples again and they're driving me mad (well one is, the other is fine Hmm)
