Hi, I haven't been on here for a while - a few weeks laid up in bed sick, followed by holiday and xmas have kind of distracted me! I am in awe of how much shopping everyone has been doing/researching. I have barely even started thinking about it and first baby so I have nothing...

20w scan was today - he was not playing ball (facing down with arms obscuring chest) so I had to go for a walk and come back for a second attempt before she could see all the things she needed to. Thankfully everything seems to be ok. I have to have a cervical assessment next week though due to having had lletz treatment - once that is out of the way I may be able to relax and start working out what on earth I need to buy. Good luck to anyone with scans coming up.

Badgerbird · 28/12/2016 21:01

Congrats on all the lovely scans and nice to see you're having a little girl tea ;)

We found out on Christmas Day that we are having a little girl Smile

I haven't bought 1 thing yet, have no idea re buggy etc and it's my first too so you're not alone power Confused

I feel like crap, been in my pjs all day Sad really don't want to be ill for nye and end up spending it on my own. Meh

mightymouse76 · 28/12/2016 21:11

Sonnet thank you that's super helpful!

1004Rise · 28/12/2016 21:19

Baby monitor!! New there was something missing from my list GrinWink

lucieloos · 28/12/2016 21:29

Rise, let me know if you have any luck with the monitors. Finding th very confusing. Most of them have negative points. The better one I've seen so far is probably bt 7500 light monitor.

McBaby · 28/12/2016 21:38

We have a Motorola video monitor which is great especially now dd2 is in a cot bed and ends up on the floor most nights! We also have an angel care sound and motion monitor which we used when dd1 was little and I found it reassuring, dd1 was a very noisy sleeper and would only sleep on me from 2-6am so we never used it. However it's still going strong and we use it for dd1 who is 4.5 as we can't hear her from our bedroom!

EsmesBees · 28/12/2016 21:57

lucie they've made some change to the sides of the bednest to make it safe. It's a good crib. A bit heavy if you want to move it round the house.

I have vague recollections of googling when I was expecting the first time and could find no evidence for motion sensors saving lives, so went for a monitor without it. I would recommend going for one that plays music. We still put the music on ours on in the morning, reckon it extends her sleep by about 30 mins.

If you are trying to save money then cloth nappies can definitely be a good way to go, along with washable wipes. You can get terry towel squares and wraps to make the nappies, and cut up some other terry towels to make wipes quite cheap. The cost of the extra washing per year is pretty negligible and that's even with me doing a load every other day. I've cloth-bummed my 2 year old since she was 3 months old, and that was only because a friend bought us a large stash of size 1 disposables to use up first. I love my Cheeky Wipes and my pocket nappies. But like everything else baby related it's really easy to accidentally spend a lot more than intended if you start falling into the pretty trap - big brand reusable nappies (pretty patterns released each quarter etc) retail at £10-15 each and the Pretties market of WAHM-made reusables usually cost £15-25 each. They are not pokemon, you do not have to catch them all once you have enough for baby's bum. I'm always happy to chat nappies if anyone has any questions, I remember how daunting it was trying to figure out the jargon last time.

Got my 20 week scan on Friday afternoon, so all I need to do is remember what day it is today and turn up on the right day.

Autumnsweater · 29/12/2016 06:18

I haven't bought anything yet either although starting to think about it now.

I joined Which? yesterday, recommend it, not only can you look at the best buys for everything they have written some really comprehensive articles on how to choose the right pram, car seat etc and jargon busting all the lingo. They have crash tested all the car seats.

lullaby23 · 29/12/2016 09:55

Happy (belated) Christmas everyone Xmas Smile, hope everyone is doing well. Good luck on upcoming scans and congrats on all the recent ones. Sorry to everyone feeling ill or still nauseous, so crap it's lasting this long.

We have most things we need from DC1 but I have bought a few bundles from ebay of girls summer clothes I couldn't resist a few pretty things Blush (we live in Singapore it's 30 deg year round) and a Tiny Love Rocker Napper (www.amazon.co.uk/Tiny-Love-3-Rocker-Napper/dp/B008VU3A1C) which I'm hoping might be useful, no idea if baby will nap in it though and have bought a Close Caboo too.

Love our Snuzpod but I never once used the crib off the stand even in our flat, it's quite heavy! We've decided to wait for the iCandy Orange as the shopping basket on the Peach is obscured when in double mode and I want it mainly for walking to the shops.

lullaby23 · 29/12/2016 09:58

Oops link fail www.amazon.co.uk/Tiny-Love-3-Rocker-Napper/dp/B008VU3A1C

McBaby · 29/12/2016 10:23

I love my icandy peach. When is the orange released? In the past icandy have had major issues with supply of new products and fulfilling orders after release just something to be wary of if close to due date unless they have got amazingly better!!

MrsJW15 · 29/12/2016 10:23

Thanks Esmes have been wondering about those motion sensors but I'm not sure they are needed. I don't even really know if we need a monitor as our flat is so small, but we do want something that plays music, so perhaps makes sense to get a monitor that does that.

jennymac31 · 29/12/2016 10:38

Morning ladies. Hope you are all well.

Been having issues with my old support pillow, which I bought from mothercare for my first pregnancy. Am tempted to buy the 'dreamgenii' one but wanted to know if anyone had any other recommendations?

Also just submitted the school admissions application for my daughter. Still can't believe she'll be starting school next year!

Supposed to be meeting up with a couple of old friends this afternoon but am still suffering from pelvic/hip/back pain and slight nausea so not sure how social I'm going to be. Got my midwife to make a referral to the physio so we'll see if anything comes of it.

Badgerbird · 29/12/2016 11:03

stationary "they are not Pokemon" Grin Thanks for info, bookmarking as interested in using cloth/reusable nappies but my brain is not at that stage yet so will prob ask loadsa questions nearer the time!

sonnet thanks for that breakdown, very helpful, makes it seem less scary!

mighty I'm self employed too, we get maternity allowance don't we rather than smp?

lullaby23 · 29/12/2016 11:24

Some time in the spring I think mcbaby we bought the strawberry 2 as soon as it was released 2 years ago from the pramworld website I think?

teainbed · 29/12/2016 11:25

Wow at all this shopping! I've not bought anything yet and can't see me doing it until February or March.

I had a fetal heart scan yesterday which was really cool, very detailed and showed that all the chambers and vessels were fine, amazing detail.

Is it wrong I'm counting the weeks until I finish work? It's really near in some ways but also so far.

RasperryInAMelon · 29/12/2016 11:33

I'm with you on that tea with my NCT classes, midwife appointments and a cheeky 4 days in Barcalona, I only have 7 full 5 day weeks left! YIPPEEEEEEE! Grin

Adventuregame · 29/12/2016 11:45

I just counted up too ! 9 weeks til I leave and 2 of those are holiday weeks ! I've not bought anything yet but beginning to get an idea of what I want. Chosen my car seat and pram. Been lent a perfect prep machine, been given a cot so will just get a new mattress. Friend lending me a moses basket and stand so again, just a new mattress needed for in there. Will need to get formula etc as can only bf for about a week before needing to go back on medication myself.

OP posts:
Barnes79 · 29/12/2016 12:31

Finally got DH out shopping! Any thoughts on the Oyster 2 for all-terrain (mainly dog walking) and also, first timer stupid question alert, I assume if breast feeding but pumping I will need bottle sterilisers etc, but how do you reheat the milk? Blush

FatOldBag · 29/12/2016 12:36

Adventure I don't go back for another week and then I've only got 6 or 7 weeks of actual work. Makes it seem like not long to go now (even though I'm not quite half way)!!

Shoney85 · 29/12/2016 12:42

Definitely counting down days till I finish, should be April 7th will be my last day!! Sooo ready for a break from working life

teainbed · 29/12/2016 12:43

Barnes you can buy various milk warming devices but a bottle can be heated in a bowl of boiling water or the microwave but I didn't say that Grin

teainbed · 29/12/2016 12:44

11 actual working weeks for me. Grin
