Evergreen only 11 days left is amazing. That will go so quickly.
Trouble I can add you if you pm me your email address.
Feeling fed up with southern trains. I booked a private 32 week scan weeks ago and was really looking forward to seeing my baby again. Now there are strikes with no trains running on the day I booked it for. I'm going to have to postpone Sad

LondonGirl83 · 06/12/2016 10:16

Friendly that's really annoying.

Ever I've got no advice but you have my sympathy dealing with poor service. These days poor service brings on the rage (I blame the pregnancy hormones!)

GinIsIn · 07/12/2016 11:54

So.... I went to my first NCT class yesterday. Well that was an experience!! Confused

Shellbell0403 · 07/12/2016 12:05

Sounds interesting fenella.....

GinIsIn · 07/12/2016 12:24

Highlights included the course leader crawling around on her hands and knees, mooing to demonstrate 'the perfect labour' and gems like 'now remember that breathing is nature's morphine' Hmm

LondonGirl83 · 07/12/2016 13:34

Oh god, that's my worst nightmare! I feel like I might not be able to control my eye-rolling during NCT from what people have told me about it!

Keepingupwiththejonesys · 07/12/2016 13:49

I've never done the NCT classes and would never. I know some people swear by them but my eyes would roll so much they'd fall out Grin . In my labours I like to be left to it with dh giving me the odd back rub then giving me some support in the pool (him behind me outside while I'm in) I also like him helping me with my breathing techniques if I go out of rhythm and that's about it.

GinIsIn · 07/12/2016 13:55

Luckily she had her eyes closed to focus on her mooing, so she didn't notice we were all dying of laughter! Grin

twocatsandatoddler · 07/12/2016 14:14

Haha, my mum taught NCT classes for over 10 years. She is definitely more than a little, shall we say, alternative, but I can't imagine her ever going as far as crawling and mooing!

Given her background, she was surprisingly restrained in giving unsolicited advice in my last pregnancy. I thought she'd be all hippy about it, but she's actually quite pragmatic about epidurals and C-sections.

LondonGirl83 · 07/12/2016 14:21

I'm hoping my nct instructor will be like your mom two cats but my neighbourhood is also fairly 'alternative' so I think it's unlikely.

DottyA · 07/12/2016 14:54

Oh God, I really hope my NCT isn't like that! I can only imagine what DP will have to say if it is...he'll struggle to not laugh even more than me.

kikisdelivery · 07/12/2016 14:55

Oh good god! My NCT doesn't start until very early Jan... I can't wait to report back on what our instructor is like, by the sounds!

CeeCeeEnnEss · 07/12/2016 15:36

Christ if the NCT lady moos in front of me I'll be getting a refund!!!

GinIsIn · 07/12/2016 17:44

Dotty don't you live in the same place as me? I fear that increases your odds of mooing...... Grin

DottyA · 07/12/2016 21:05

Yep, I think you're right Fenella!

Wasn't quite mooing in pregnancy yoga tonight, but it wasn't far off!

Mysterycat23 · 07/12/2016 23:34

Omg Fenella!! Nature's morphine?! Wow!!

Evergreen17 · 08/12/2016 08:21

Friendly I cant believe how much Southern are ruining my life.
This week I am so exhausted because I have to know commute to London bridge
Next week I have to swap days and use my remaining holidays because there will be no trains Sad
Fenella GrinGrinGrinGrinI am not doing NcT( trying to save up) but I did the NhS ones and when I do believe that breathing helps with pain, the midwife was like oh yes it really works lets do an experiment and we all did Hmm, it hurt the bloody same Grin
But yes I think it helps but maybe not as much as morphine Confused
I also dislike when they force something on you.
Like I want to breastfeed but if you dont you probably have your reasons and you dont want to be preached. She also didnt sell the epidural at all and scared DH. I am planning on gas and air but my options are well open!
With VitaminK the same, I want it for baby but she was adamant that you must almost like you would be a bad mum if you dont. I disagree.
And what really made me Angry was: add 12 to your EDD and that is your induction date. Confused no arguments. Actually!! Considering I very much doubt my EDD is right (I know exactly when I ovulated and DTD as I was using a monitor and I have very short Lut. Phase) I know that it is a few days after their EDD. Plus every woman and baby is different and should be assessed in each case plus it is 14 not 12 that they have observed (in some cases) placenta deteriorating.
So I was a bit AngryAngry you are already telling me you will induce me no matter what.
DH did not like her a bit as she kept making jokes about men being useless and I thought that was sooooo unprofessional and sexist.
Anyhow, I have the same lady for the breastfeeding workshop...

twocatsandatoddler · 08/12/2016 08:45

Evergreen you have the right to refuse induction if you don't want to be induced12 days after your due date. They may recommend that you are induced on that date but they can't force it.

I think breathing exercises give you something to focus on which can distract you from the contractions, and also help you relax, which can also mean you feel less pain. But if you're in lots of pain it can only help so much! I'm hoping to get as far as I can with just breathing exercises, water and TENS but know the drugs are there for me if I need them!

GinIsIn · 08/12/2016 08:50

I'm another one getting royally screwed by southern rail. I HATE THEM!!!!!

I don't want an epidural if I can help it as I want to be able to walk around as long as possible, but I definitely want the pethedine or Meptid, with an anti-emetic.

If I have a headache, I take nurofen, I don't stand there and moo, so that's the approach I'm taking with this too! Grin

twocatsandatoddler · 08/12/2016 15:04

Fenella is the anti-emetic given as standard with opiates or is it just that you know you'll need/want it? I'm considering pethidine as I know gas & air makes me feel sick and dizzy but now wondering about whether to ask for anti-sickness drugs too.

I think I cope ok with opiates as never had any issues with co-hydramol, and they gave me diamorpine immediately after my c-section last time and oramorph on the ward for the first day, and I don't remember feeling sick so maybe I don't need it. I remember being told not to go crazy on the toast they gave in the post-op room as some women throw up, but I hadn't eaten in over 24 hours and I wolfed it down with no ill effects. In fact, that toast in hospital may be the best tasting meal I've ever eaten!

LondonGirl83 · 08/12/2016 15:09

Southern run my nearest station in Dulwich but I've been avoiding them by walking further along to another station for the past year. Its such a shambles and yet the government are backing Govia!

I'm another one who believes breathing exercises can help relax you which in and of itself will help with pain but breathing is not morphine. I always wonder why only women are meant to manage pain naturally. You never here men being told to breathe through kidney stones etc. In fact, men are offered pain killers more often and faster than women for similar medical conditions.

Ever I am totally with you on not liking women who reinforce negative stereotypes about men. First of all, I think its harmful to both men and women but also I think its deeply unfair! My DH is amazing and I know he'd resent the hell out of the suggestion that he wasn't doing his fair share and very supportive.

GinIsIn · 08/12/2016 15:38

It's not given as standard, no, but I know pethedine can make you really nauseous and I'm terrible with nausea so I plan to ask for it to be given preventatively.... I hope!

SBSparkles · 10/12/2016 15:17

Hi just popping back on here as ive lost the thread!! Evergreen I also don't want to be induced. You don't have to be - you can say no. They just have to keep an eye on you!

LunaPatuna · 11/12/2016 06:46

Trying to catch up on here- have ended up with a miserable sore throat blocked nose cold and feeling sick so distracting myself!

We've been to 3 of our NCT classes and I've found them to be really informative, evidence based with statistics & not too fluffy at all! Disappointingly no mooing at all "Fenella" ! They've been eally helpful for us at 1st timers, getting to know about the drugs, induction timeline, Caesarians etc. Was interesting to learn that Remifentanil is being used in some trusts as Patient Controlled Analgesia e.g.. ( www.uhs.nhs.uk/Media/Controlleddocuments/Patientinformation/Pregnancyandbirth/Pain-relief-in-labour-epidurals-and-remifentanil-patient-information.pdf) Got to try out a TENS machine, found it quite creepy! Must be v different on your back vs your arm.

A few people mentioned support belts up there ^ I bought the Nexcare one from Amazon as an emergency a couple of months ago for £37 (!!) when my bump felt like it was tearing + PGP,? it was so reassuring being strapped in! Took a lot of pressure off and helped posture/back pain. Have since bought cheap eBay black version which is a bit lighter, physio gave me a tubigrip and think support belt for my hips to hold them together when walking also. I try not to wear them every day as your muscles can get too used to them but they're the main reasons I still have my mobility!!

LunaPatuna · 11/12/2016 06:57

"Keeping" "London" I've been having stomach /digestion issues too, basically through the whole pregnancy. I have so much pressure in my stomach I inflate like a beach ball but don't seem to deflate! Can physically feel it tearing from the inside.

GP said they're IBS type symptoms but I have to take Laxido x2 a day just to try and be normal! Never thought I'd miss breaking wind -TMI!// They prescribed Buscopan also but I don't have 'cramping' really or Braxton hicks so they dont do anything to relax the smooth muscles . I am woken up at 4am every day with the pressure.
I eat plenty of veg, drink a lot of water etc. Bit worried about how I'll feel as I get closer to due date & if I should really tried to avoid opiates etc in labour.
