Are your children’s vaccines up to date?

Oh, and I researched gd and homebirth thoroughly when I first found out about the gd, as I had always planned a homebirth.

I think that's why the consultant etc don't really say much to me as I have a counterpoint for all their points...

Anyway, enough of me moaning on, I will be back when I'm feeling a bit more together, thanks for all the support, mn is great

Update... feeling a bit more positive, have just spoken to my Mum, and am going to try and avoid thinking about it until Wednesday as I can't do anything until then anyway

spongecake · 17/02/2007 21:59

hi all, thx for your supportive posts re my parents. I think they are just very tactless and of a different generation, lol at taping the birth & sending on - kiwibella not sure what you mean, sorry am a bit slow atm.

magpie, hope you get it sorted- they sound like they are tring to blind you with medical stuff, like those IT support people who talk like its a NASA problem and it turn sout it just needs a new plug or something sounds like you have to write all you questions down-could you get a doula to just come for the meeting? don't know if they do that though.

feel v wide awake, and so hungry have eaten 3 slices of blueberry mousse cake. hope we all sleep well tonight, mattresses permitting..!

spongecake · 17/02/2007 22:06

magpie, have you started a thread anywhere else about it? will you send the link if you have? am nervous of the hospital as feel same as you re more risk of intervention etc- but I will be in hospital for the birth of this baby (unless its all really quick and I am at home-have looked up what to do on babycentre Hate thougt of being statistic, lots of intervention so they get more funding- used to work for gov in dept responsible for NHS funding, so know how it (used( to work- might have changed now, hope so, we are funding a war after all.

sorry for long post..

1973magpie · 17/02/2007 22:37

Spongecake, I haven't started a thread on it tonight, I may do tomorrow, I'll see if I've calmed down by then

If I do post a thread I'll try and do a link, but I can't promise it'll work, I've never braved trying a link before...

foxabout2pop · 18/02/2007 07:38

I can't dolinks either Magpie (glad I'm not alone) but when you set up your thread, I'm sure one of the more IT literate people on this thread will do the link

Sponge I like your last post - when you say "funding a war" do you mean Iraq, or the NHS war on PG women who want homebirths?

Eids that pillow looks lovely - even nicer than the one I've got. Its a really good shape.

rosylonginglily · 18/02/2007 08:14

The boppy pillow looks great. I think I'll see if my crazy mother will make me something like that. She also loves trawling charity shops so I'm going to send her on a baby bath mission
I was shopping yesterday and got a changing mat for £6.99(winnie the poo ) and I got two little toy buggies for my little beasties 'from the baby'. They are both obsessed with baby dolls now!

I was supposed to go swimming yesterday but couldn't bear the thought of appearing in a public place with no clothes on, feel too vulnerable or something So not sure if I'll manage a water birth because I get so cold in labour and feel a need to be very private and cocooned and hate to be touched.

But my friend has lent my a great two piece swimsuit and so I am prepared to give it a go!

Heard from dh yesterday and his mum is doing well so fingers crossed.

37 weeks today

Morning all,

Wow, lots of messages to catch up on and I'm afraid I had a lovely long lie in this morning so don't have time to reply properly! We're having more geeky fun today so I need to walk the dogs ASAP whilst dh tidies the house.

Just wanted to say Spongecake sorry your parents aren't being very supportive, they sound very opinionated, maybe they just don't realise how they come across?

Magpie about them trying to mess with your head. You really would think they had something better to do. I hope you get what you want, and they don't bully you out of it.

Booboo our mattress is pretty firm but...

No, I was going to make a rude joke about firmness but it's just a bit too early in the morning!

Diva, my normally breast obsessed dh has become slightly less so in the last few weeks since he read in a book about pgcy that they can leak in the last few weeks! Sometimes I would love to remove both them, and this huge belly, and let him carry them around for a bit!

Sorry everyone I've missed, busy day today! Hope you're all well - well, as well as can be expected anyhow!

rosylonginglily · 18/02/2007 10:08

Thank you Vickiyumyum!

Kiwi, lol at your funny story, how sweet!

foxabout2pop · 18/02/2007 10:18

Rosy - we bought the same changing mat - Winnie the Poo £6.99 - snap!!

So stupid question time: when you go into the birthing pool in hospital, R U supposed to wear clothes?

I don't have a bikini (well not one I can fit into atm) - was thinking I could wear either nothing or wear some dingy old pants and a bra?

What is the etiquette then?

rosylonginglily · 18/02/2007 10:23

Fox I have no idea, maybe whatever is comfortable?
Actually has anyone had a water birth? I can't remember.

I wonder what Amie is up to?????

foxabout2pop · 18/02/2007 10:26

Aime's probably having a water birth right now as we type

Serioulsy, I wonder if she's been kept in?

rosylonginglily · 18/02/2007 10:29

I think we all need to train our dps/dhs to come on and post if anything happens!

Fox I shall think of you changing Montis bottom everytime I'm changing my babys nappy!

foxabout2pop · 18/02/2007 10:32

yes, his lovely little bottom which I can't wait to meet

It'll probably be DS aged 6.5 who posts our news when it arrives - he's the one who comes on MN, not my DH!!! LOL

LunarSea · 18/02/2007 10:34

Still no news of Amie?

Well I spent most of yesterday sorting out and ironing ds's old baby clothes. Looks like I have to hope that this one really is as big as they say because I've got hardly any newborn size stuff except vests and sleepsuits. Loads of 0-3 though - poor baby may have to wear things with the sleeves/legs rolled up for a while if it's smaller than expected! And may have to wear blue to start with if it's a girl!

This morning I bought a portable electric swing (like this but it was only £10) and a pop up baby gym (like this for £2) at our local car boot sale - they both fold up quite small, so can be kept at grandma's, which will save me having to lug too much stuff across there every time.

I think our parents generation do seem to have selective memories of what their children did when - MIL is adamant that hers were potty trained by six months, and could talk by then too! And my father still needs persuading every time that yes, ds does have to go in a car seat, because they never used to.

kiwibella · 18/02/2007 10:36

sorry Spongecake... I hadn't caught up all day so when I read through the posts I saw your comments about your parents coming to visit (even mentioning that you hoped bh didn't start) and then what had happened afterwards. It was like what you hoped wouldn't happen during their visit did happen. Saying your Mum was supportive was pure sarcasm - I don't think that at all.

Good question about birthing pool etiquette. I have been wondering similarly about using the bath at home. I know it's my own home so it should be what I am comfortable with - but there will be an audience!

I have also spent a lot of the night pondering what to do with baby on its first night out. I mean - what are you all doing about putting the little bundle to bed?? Should I wrap in a blanket, buy some of those 'swaddling blankets' that Mothercare sells, or use a grow-bag (and if I do, do you then cover a baby in a grow-bag with a blanket?). It is such a basic question but I would love to know your advice.

Eids, they have a similar cushion at Woolworths. I was looking at it the other night and think I will go back for it when we do the grocery shop today.

We've just got up so really are on go slow - who knows when we will actually get out the door to get the shopping done but the lack of food in the house means we should go soon .

foxabout2pop · 18/02/2007 10:41

Kiwi - I think with DS and DD I just lay them on their side in my bed with a little blanket over them on their first night. Although I did swaddle, don't think I was together enough to remember to do it on the first night

ooooh I can't wait until we all have our little bundles in a few weeks time

kiwibella · 18/02/2007 10:53

Thanks Fox... we took turns sleeping with dd in the bed on her first night and swore we would never do that again. Dd proudly says that must be why she likes cuddling so much!

I think dh has planted a seed of curiousity in my mind because he was talking about how strange it must be for the likkle one to be in the outside world after their nice warm cocoon.

foxabout2pop · 18/02/2007 11:00

Kiwi - I'm an unashamed co-sleeper . Both DS and DD spent their first 6 months in my bed, mainly to aid BFing. Also, I actually like having a newborn snuggling next to me - so much better than a teddy bear

Mind you, I seem to remember DS being so noisy (snuffling like a hedgehog) that DH often had to remove him to another room, as each time he snuffled, I had a milk let down and terribel after pains as my uterus contracted, for the first week or so.

kiwibella · 18/02/2007 11:06

that's funny about the let down

I have absolutely no problem with bed sharing. Our comments come from the fact that we didn't sleep much on the first night with a bundle balanced on top of us . At 10, dd still often shares our bed - not for the whole night (unless one of us is away) but for a good cuddle.

Though, these days dd is sleeping with her Daddy and I have been using her bed . That way everyone gets a good night's sleep .

Jaysecond · 18/02/2007 12:07

just popping in to say hi, and i am still around. Still geting on off period type pains and the strongest BH, but thats as far as its going!

Must admit havnt read all posts so sorry if i have missed out on anythng, i do think of everyone though and hope you are all keeping well, its an exciting time right now to see whos going to pop next!

RE co-sleeping i tried with DD but just couldnt get on with it, and neither could she to be fair, dont think i will this time either. Have the Amby nest right next to the bed, thats close enough for me!

DD is much better now btw, shes finished her antibiotics and went to nursery on Friday, she got a bit tearful through the day but soon got back into playing!

We have finished her bedroom now pics here and have moved her in, so now all we need to do to the boys nursery is decorate and get a new lightshade. Have hung up all his clothes and put his vests and babygros away, its all almost ready, also have bag packed and baby bag packed, i have a feeling i am going to be early!

Quick question to those with LO that are about 12-14 mths, where do you change them now, i mean i was still changing her on the changing table but now that i have moved her the table is still in the nursery, so i guess i will be doing it on the floor or bed?? i know its a daft little question but , has to be asked!

Right of to meet friends at pizza express for lunch..yuummmmy. Have a wicked day, catch up soon xxxxx

kittywaitsfornumber6 · 18/02/2007 12:20

Sorry, haven't read all the posts apart from jays. Jay I must say I've only ever changedonthe floorand last time I owned a changingmat was over 8 years ago.

Hope you're all having a jolly day.I had a glasso f wine last night. It made me very hot and I couldn't sleep . I'll have to go back to lager until I've dropped .

kiwibella · 18/02/2007 12:26

Jay.... I also have the Amby Natures Nest - what size sheets have you got?? The mattress is such an odd size, I'm having fun and games (not!)

kiwibella · 18/02/2007 12:28

love the leafy green outlook from the bedroom windows Jay and that storage is enviable!! Dream !!!

Jaysecond · 18/02/2007 12:37

Thanks Kiwi, the furniture, believe it or not , we got from good ole ebay, quite cheaply too i add! We just stuck on the alphabet stickers to go with her playmat on the floor. Theres only clothes in the wardrobe at the mo, so everything else is empty! But i am sure that will change over the coming yrs!
Re the amby sheets, my Mum has taken some old sheets that i had and had made some up. She bought some elastic and just stitched them round the edges. They work ok, tend to curl the matress a bit at one end, but once the boy is in it i am sure it will be fine! You can buy amby sheets to fit, but i think they are a bit overpriced!

Kitty, i have probs with changin on the floor, as my back is shot to pieces and i have this crappy SPD guess i could change her on the bed thats in her room but i have a feeling she will be wanting to be up and off!!
