It's only 2 weeks until my 20 week scan - how are we nearly half way through already ???

MissMooMoo · 08/12/2016 11:54

I also can't believe nearly halfway!
My scan is in 3 weeks from tomorrow. Reay excited to see baby again but also starting to get a bit anxious, hoping they don't find anything wrong!

This is interesting. I don't have the choice of a midwife unit due to me being a high risk but some of you might well get choices about where to deliver.

Also incredible to be halfway! 19+1 today.

teainbed · 08/12/2016 12:19

Btw the whooping cough jab yesterday really hurts! And I'm pricking my fingers 8 times a day and injecting at least 4 times a day so you'd think I'd be used to it!

1004Rise · 08/12/2016 12:35

Totally agree tea my arm hurt for ages after the whooping cough jab!

Rabbitykins55 · 08/12/2016 12:53

Oh no! I hope it's not as bad as the flu jab, that bloody hurt!

Sipperskipper · 08/12/2016 13:00

I screamed when I had my flu jab (embarassingly I'm a nurse!) - the nurse laughed at me and said good luck with labour!

missmoomoo I feel the same. Had a headache for 3 days before my 12 week scan, it dissapeared as soon as told all was normal! My 20w is tues 20th. Excited but also worried. Walked round mothercare earlier, got very excited properly looking at prams etc, but I just can't buy anythimg more than the odd babygrow until I know if all ok with 20w scan. I'm a worrier by nature so thik I will feel like this up until birth!

Adventuregame · 08/12/2016 13:13

Sipper I'm a worrier too ! My scan is the 21st ! I did have a little listen with my home doppler last night so that was reassuring !

1004Rise · 08/12/2016 13:15

For me the flu jab didn't hurt, maybe it's one or the other so you might be ok!! Grin

savagehk · 08/12/2016 14:28

Ha Sipper - for me the most painful part of labour was inserting the catheter - I was handling my contractions OK actually!

Not had either jab yet, although last time I think the whooping cough one was worse.

EsmesBees · 08/12/2016 14:46

I think the anti D is the worst one. And I'm as hard as nails normally when it comes to jabs.

MrsJW15 · 08/12/2016 14:54

I didn't mind the flu jab so much, but my arm was so painful all day! And I felt awful that night.

Sipper my scan is the same day and I'm also a worrier. I got really nervous before my 12 week and I'm sure I'll be the same in the couple of weeks leading up to the 20 week. I wont buy anything until we've had that - then I'll be looking in the Christmas sales!

RasperryInAMelon · 08/12/2016 14:54

Woah woah woah... why are these jabs hurting!!!?... I'm having both flu and whooping on the 21st I don't do needles as it is (just about manage having my bloods done) and now I hear it hurts!?... what kind of pain are we talking please?

EsmesBees · 08/12/2016 15:13

Didn't mean to scare you- They are not that bad Raspberry! I hardly felt the flu jab. No worse than having bloods done.

teainbed · 08/12/2016 15:15

My arm has ached all day. And I'm really not a wimp. Grin

IV cannulas/venflons are the worst for me but sometimes they use local anaesthetic before putting them on.

Sipperskipper · 08/12/2016 15:17

Glad to hear I'm not the only worrier! And savage....catheter? CATHETER?? I am so naive, did not realise I might have to have one of those! I feel like I'm going to pass out if I ever have to insert one in someone else, let alone one going in me!!

talulahbelle · 08/12/2016 15:19

17+1 here, I'm feeling a few possible flutters but nothing major.
Eating non stop at the moment too, after losing weight in the 1st trimester I'm going to be the size of a bus.

1004Rise · 08/12/2016 15:22

Hang on catheter?! Eh!! What else has no one warned me about!!

My scan is 3 weeks today, which means in less than 3 weeks it's Christmas and I haven't done anything yet....This being pregnant has magically removed my organised self!! HmmConfused

RasperryInAMelon · 08/12/2016 15:41

Clearly missed the catheter comment ShockConfused why am I not going to be able to pee on my own... clearly so naive...

teainbed · 08/12/2016 16:00

Loads of reasons for catheters, if you have an epidural or Caesarean section, if you need a forceps or sometimes because they're monitoring your output or if you need stitches near your urethra. Have needed one for two out of three births.

EsmesBees · 08/12/2016 16:00

If you have a c section or eplidural, you will need a catheter. Glamorous, this giving birth lark.

EsmesBees · 08/12/2016 16:01

Oops. Cross post there.

Sipperskipper · 08/12/2016 16:04

Do they put it in once the epidural has started working or before?

savagehk · 08/12/2016 16:08

In my case they were worried I wasn't weeing (I was) and with me not wanting to talk to anyone in labour I went along with them inserting the thing instead of telling them (!!). It will not be happening again...

(It was before the epidural, that only happened way later when they gave me the drip to fully dilate me before we ended up in theatre)

savagehk · 08/12/2016 16:11

(I think they thought that baby might be blocking my bladder or something hence the 'not weeing' thing - obvs giving birth with a full bladder is not a good idea as there's not much space there for a full bladder and a baby, so safer to empty bladder)
