Grow, have you tried sitting with your head over a bowl of steam? It always helps me feel less bunged up.

I've also gained (probably too much) weight Crazy. I feel very unattractive, but have had comments asking if I'm expecting from the (practically a stranger) lady who lives opposite us, I'm glad I'm past the 'is she fat or pregnant' stage at least!

I did a charity motorbike run yesterday, 1750 bikers donating presents to care home children, so today I'm exhausted! Husband was really sweet, wouldn't let me ride if it was too icy, kept telling me to slow down and take it easy on the way there, but we made it without any problems. My poor bike is now tucked away in the garage waiting to be sold come spring, having already sold my sports bike when I initially found out I was pregnant!

lucieloos I'm still nauseous and vomited once yesterday for the first time in a week. Definitely better than I was weeks 7-10 but I had hoped it would be gone by now and it seems to be worse this weekend. Most annoying!

Crazyzooo I've felt movement too, it's my first! Very exciting isn't it.

growcookeat · 05/12/2016 09:19

Thanks for the tip bright. I'm currently bundled up in bed with my kindle so I'll try it when I can face getting up. Do you put anything in the steam?

Brightsmoke · 05/12/2016 09:49

Grow, you could try putting some lemon juice in, but I just use steam and it helps.

talulahbelle · 05/12/2016 10:44

How festive are you all feeling? I've got a Christmas meal out tomorrow night, no fizz, no pate, no cheese, sob.
I'm focusing on the huge amounts of chocolate I can indulge in this festive season instead.
Finally finished all my Xmas shopping (I think) now I just need to wrap everything!

MrsJW15 · 05/12/2016 11:19

Talulah I've got my first Christmas thing this week and not looking forward to being the sober one! Plus I'm finding I can't stay out as late at things due to a combination of tiredness and getting very bored of soft drinks!

But I'm definitely focusing on pregnancy plus a lack of drinking meaning extra Christmas treats this year! Bring on the mince pies...

Badgerbird · 05/12/2016 11:28

bright I love it! What a brilliant thing to do! Love the photo, beautiful bike. So pleased the weather was nice and you got to enjoy the ride Smile Will your DH keep his bike so you can sneak rides after baby is born? DH is a classic car mechanic & loves big old trucks & landrovers so we'll be going in one of his to the Boxing Day classic car meet up which is always festive and fun.

talullah I'm feeling pretty festive, we had our annual Xmas meal with friends (about 25 of us!) at wknd and I loved it! Luckily I don't eat cheese or meat so I don't miss out but a glass of Winewould have been nice! And yes enjoying the choccy! I'm sure once you get there you'll feel festive, pop some tinsel in your hair!

grow that's so rubbish after wknd you had!! Stay snuggled up and get well soon x

Autumnsweater · 05/12/2016 11:32

Tallulah you can eat most cheese! Check the guidelines before you go (can't help on the alcohol or pâté though) - NHS have OKed most cheese including stilton.

Tbh I'm ignoring the cheese guidelines its headline news if there's a listeria outbreak, pregnant or not, so unlikely. I realise that's not for everyone though. Ditto runny eggs I have them daily for breakfast.

lucieloos · 05/12/2016 12:04

I haven't felt any movement yet. I'm 16 weeks and my first so maybe it will take a bit longer. When did everyone else start to feel it with their first. I've read 18-20 weeks is most common?

RasperryInAMelon · 05/12/2016 12:10

16 Week Appointment this morning went well - heartbeat was just amazing to hear. Bring on the gender scan next! Grin

lucieloos · 05/12/2016 12:26

Yay that's exciting raspberry! I have my 16w appt tomorrow although we heard heartbeat at a private scan at 10 weeks. Don't think we are going to find out the gender. DH isn't keen and fancies a surprise.

MissMooMoo · 05/12/2016 12:46

Glad your appt went well raspberry

We are going to an Xmas thing at the weekend and we have pre ordered our meals so I know what I am having although I would have LOVED the cheeseboard I know it will have soft cheeses on it that I can't resist so have stayed clear.

I have been feeling movement for a little while now (16+5 currently) and today I have had lots of tingly/fizzy feeling in one area of my tummy, I think its the baby? I get a few big air bubble feelings every few days but today is the first time I have felt the tingling.

We also are not finding out if its a boy or a girl.

savagehk · 05/12/2016 14:29

I was 19 weeks before I felt anything last time lucie - and I'm re-reading a book I had last time (Your body your baby your birth) and was surprised at how late she put the 'you will feel first movements' thing - I presume to err on the side of caution for those who don't feel it earlier.

I'm very petite (which is supposed to help make you feel things earlier) but had an anterior placenta (where the placenta is at the front) last time which cushions feelings. This time I was honestly feeling movement from 10 weeks or so which I thought was impossible but a quick google suggests others have also done so. (It's also very low down this time, which it wasn't last time, and TBH if it was higher I'd probably put it down to indigestion :D )

ImYourWomanJonSnow · 05/12/2016 14:35

You can eat cheese that has been pasteurised although to be honest I eat all cheese that has come from a reputable place and is within date. Same with runny eggs. After reading and researching decided that risk of listeria poisoning is miniscule in the western world.

Advice for alcohol is also not based on actual evidence (how can you trial a thing like that) so blanket no alcohol in pregnancy ever is to be taken with a pinch of salt. I had half a glass of prosecco yesterday.

The book Expecting Better, written by a scientist who wasn't prepared to accept all advice blindly and actually looked at the science behind these recommendations is excellent.

In other news, had my 16 week appointment this morning. Absolutely nothing to report, she filled in tons of forms and that was that. No doppler, apparently they don't use it anymore. Gah! I was really looking forward to being reassured, I'm not feeling pregnant at all (although the bump is going from strength to strength).

savagehk · 05/12/2016 14:45

Agree with ImYourWoman - last listeriosis outbreak was from melons or something daft when I looked into this last pregnancy. Although with listeriosis you are apparently more susceptible to getting it in the first place so mild caution is probably sensible.

The egg thing really annoys me - British eggs are from hens vaccinated against salmonella - and salmonella doesn't actually harm the baby (unlike listeriosis). I thought they'd finally changed the guidelines on eggs?

Personally I'm avoiding alcohol while pregnant, although when breastfeeding it is filtered out before it gets to your milk so no need to avoid then (although getting drunk with a baby is obviously a bloody stupid thing to do :D )

Autumnsweater · 05/12/2016 15:05

Ditto the recommendation of the "Expecting Better" book.
I have felt far too sick to even contemplate alcohol but I do plan to have a glass of wine at Christmas if I feel like it then.

Didn't believe in 'baby brain'... but I've just put my Christmas pudding on to steam before realising I'd not put any of the dried fruit in it Confused bit worrying!!

Book reserved from library; thanks for the recommendation :)

Autumnsweater · 05/12/2016 15:27

I asked them to test me for toxoplasma at my booking-in appointment and was a bit gutted that I hadn't already got it, could have had rare steak every day Grin.

growcookeat · 05/12/2016 16:24

Thanks for the tips and good wishes bright and badger. The steam definitely helped. So much so that I'm back to work tomorrow Sad

Lucie this is my first and I started feeling bubbles/flutters at about 16+3 but very sporadically. Now at 18+2 and feeling rolling and pushing a few times a day. It's easier to feel when I'm lying down. I am very short though so this baby is all out front!

Feeling very Christmassy after a festive shopping trip and Xmas film yesterday. Just waiting for carpets to be fitted this week then will have the tree up! It does upset me that there'll be no pate and wine but I'll definitely make the most of the cheese and chocolate!

MrsJW15 · 05/12/2016 16:44

I'm having a small amount of alcohol - no more than one drink a week, and so far not even that much. But I definitely intend to have a glass of wine on Christmas day, and a glass of bubbly on NYE! But I'm sticking to the other rules so far...

What's the view on burgers? Could you eat medium cooked? Or would it need to be cooked through. Appreciate this is't Christmassy, I just like burgers!

I'm sure I felt the baby move once last week, but nothing since. Come on baby!

Shoney85 · 05/12/2016 16:49

I'm 17+2 today and this is my first. Def felt flutterings around 15 weeks. Last week or so def got a lot of movement apart from a couple of days it was quiet but things seem to have taken a notch up and feeling loads today and feels like proper kicks. Hoping we will be able to feel it on the outside.

All xmas for sure, just can't be bothered with buying th presents lol. Had a meal at the weekend for parents anniversary, had xmas menu, gutted I couldn't have pate. Xmas curry this weekend with work then big party down south the weekend after for another works do. Love xmas, such a big kid. X

Brightsmoke · 05/12/2016 16:51

Badger, it's so lovely, the kids hand make some Christmas cards to give out, it's just so lovely!! Hubby will keep his bike, so will be sneaking out as and when I can! I love the old land rovers, make sure you get some pics please!

Grow I'm glad the steam made you feel better, sorry it made you feel well enough for work though!

Glad all midwife appointments went well today. I've got my 20 week scan 2 weeks today, I'm so excited!! I can't believe in 10 days I will be half way through!

Mothercare delivery came today, can't wait for DH to come home today so we can put the bugaboo together! I hope they don't come too dismantled!

Sipperskipper · 05/12/2016 17:25

Lovely to hear how everyone is feeling! I literally feel no different, slightly fatter (but have been eating like a horse for 4 months!) And no bump. Feel absolutely no different! Heard heartbeat at mw appt, so she's definately in there!

I had 2 snowballs on saturday when putting our decorations up. It is my favourite drink ever and couldn't resist! They were very weak though and not made with my usual measures! Think I will treat myself to a baileys next weekend. I rarely drink alcohol usually (once or twice a month a small beer or glass of wine), but in December I am usually drinking snowball or baileys every night! Making up for it with loads of chocolate & milk though!

I have my 20 week scan 2 weeks tomorrow. If all ok, planning on getting a few bits after Xmas in the sales.

1004Rise · 05/12/2016 17:27

Bright which bugaboo did you get? I fancy the chameleon....

Midwife told me if you buy things from reputable places most things are OK, I've been reading a book that attempts to demystify all the myths/rules around pregnancy dos and don'ts... one of the things the author said is you have to remember that advice for pregnant women is based on world wide data and therefore worldwide risks so in the U.K. you're fine with runny eggs but in India you wouldn't be... picked India as I usually travel at least once a year for work... this is the one thing the midwife told me not to do.... given my previous experience it's hard enough to eat healthily when you're not pregnant... There is no way I fancy it now!!

On the feeling festive, not at all... haven't even done any Christmas shopping yet Hmm We have DH's Christmas night out this weekend and I'm OK with the not drinking... more concerned about falling asleep at the table by 10 pm. I intend to have a wee drink on Christmas Day and Hogmanay but up until now the smell of alcohol has made me feel ill.
