I'm about 5 mins drive from St Mary's

Barnes79 · 02/12/2016 21:59

No way! I work at Manchester Royal Infirmary! So have you chosen St Mary's then?

savagehk · 02/12/2016 22:14

Unless home birth, yes. Others too difficult to get to.

Badgerbird · 02/12/2016 22:33

1004 I am considering a home birth but I can see the hospital from my living room window! Also very aware that anything could happen or nearer the time I could totally freak out and decide against it! Obviously understand I'd need to make that decision beforehand though :)

savagehk · 02/12/2016 22:59

Badger easier to change from home birth to hospital than the other way around!

Autumnsweater · 02/12/2016 23:10

I'm in Stockport too! We should organise a Manchester meet!

Cinnamon I'm glad someone else has thought about keeping it between themselves for a least a little while, it seems like a nice idea while we get used to it Xmas Smile

mummyplus7 · 03/12/2016 02:15

I've had five (and a half) homebirths and they are honestly the best in every way. My first hospital experience was pretty bad, even with a straightforward birth. I had to transfer with my last bub due to PPH and the hospital was ok but couldn't wait to get back home.

Brightsmoke · 03/12/2016 08:26

Lots of catching up again today, gosh we do chat a lot! I've enquired about NCT courses, and have looked into the waterbirthing suites in the hospital I'm going to. Will be looking at getting a tour nearer the time, I'm hoping with having 'my own' trainee midwife, I can have a bit more 1-1 time.

I also have my 20 scan on the 19th when I'll be 20+5, so pleased to have it all sorted before Christmas!

Have a local baby market to go to today, hoping to get some bargains!

FoxMulder · 03/12/2016 11:14

I was told that the thing with Rh- and father's blood type is that they are not allowed to take your word for it that the father is who you say he is!

I had a private room in hospital with my first birthday. Didn't have to pay for it. DH wasn't allowed to stay though so I discharged myself so I wasn't alone overnight.

I want to go for a home birth this time. I hated all the strangers everywhere just watching but doing bugger all to help me. They eventually gave me an epidural (after much frowning in disapproval) then promptly told me I had to push. Only i couldn't feel a thing and they were all shouting at me that I was doing it wrong and talking about me like I wasn't there. A cascade of intervation later DS was born! I'd rather avoid all that this time if possible.

savagehk · 03/12/2016 13:42

Yeah pushing with an epidural is bizarre. In my case lots of people looking at machines rather than us, because they couldn't get a good trace on baby's heart, but it was to do with how he was lying and this had been a problem when we were first admitted - but of course pre shift change. Will be more vocal this time... (Or will get hubby to be!)

growcookeat · 03/12/2016 13:56

Am recovering today after a bit of a scare last night. Had some bleeding when I got home from work and called midwives at the hospital who told me to come in. Left in a panic so forgot my notes and had to send DH back for them. Bleeding slowed and heartbeat was good so they examined my cervix and say that's where the bleed was from. I was so relieved to hear them say baby is fine!
Possible causes could have been the pill or straining from constipation which made me feel Blush!

We've booked NCT course as we don't know many people where we live and thought it would be a good opportunity. Not much info on our hospital online so might look into a tour.

If anyone's going to Salford my best friend is a midwife there! It's a good one according to her.

FoxMulder · 03/12/2016 15:23

I'd like a Doula because despite knowing what I wanted, by the time i was in the throes of labour I could barely remember my own name! DH was too scared to do or say the wrong thing that he kept quiet in the corner.

Barnes79 · 03/12/2016 15:36

Grow - does that mean you're in the Manchester area too? That would make 4 of us...

savagehk · 03/12/2016 15:48

Fox similar to me, although i was fully with it i just wanted everyone to shut up and leave me alone, which meant i agreed to one or two things I'd not have otherwise. I think this time I'll have a fuller birth plan and a fully briefed oh with instructions to tell other people to sod off (or to ignore the machine, for instance).
He really didn't enjoy my labour last time. I've asked if he'd feel better with a doula present but he's indifferent.

Anyone else feeling the effects of the lowered immune system? I'm on my second cold in a month and have 2 mouth ulcers!

growcookeat · 03/12/2016 19:45

Unfortunately not Barnes! I'm on t'other side of the Pennines in Yorkshire.

Thanks nervousnelly -It was scary for me and poor DH too. Have been feeling movements today so feeling a bit better now.

1004Rise · 03/12/2016 21:10

Fox Shock on the don't trust you who the father is!!

Grow glad all is ok, hope you're having a relaxing evening.

I guess if you're on your second (or 8th mummy Wink) baby you know what to expect a home birth doesn't sound quite as scary. I hadn't even considered where DH will go after the baby is born. Neither had he! Although he's more likely to pass out at some point and need bandaged up Wink

I think I felt a kick today, thought it was a muscle twinge at first then it did it again... did some yoga this morning so maybe baby enjoyed it Smile

teainbed · 03/12/2016 21:52

Barnes I'm the opposite, never get sick when I'm pregnant!

savagehk · 03/12/2016 22:11

Barnes / Tea I had no colds with first pregnancy, but this pregnancy I caught a mild cold a few weeks back and was completely knackered for about a week - not stuffy head or nose, just exhausted. I was thinking I'd missed the first trimester exhaustion but it looks like it was just postponed!

Badgerbird · 03/12/2016 23:02

grow glad you got the all clear, how horrid. Hope the rest of your wknd is relaxing!

lucieloos · 04/12/2016 23:08

Anybody here still getting sick? I'm 16 weeks today and have thrown up 3 times this weekend. It seems to be getting worse if anything!

growcookeat · 05/12/2016 07:07

Barnes I was going to post last night saying I hadn't got ill. But woke up in the night with a stinking cold and stayed awake most of the night! So maybe I jinxed myself. Normally I dose up on decongestants so going to have to try some alternative methods I think.

Anyone got any tips for beating the cold?

crazyzooo · 05/12/2016 07:56

I have had a cold (or different ones) for 8 weeks... Just experienced my first UTI (unpleasant) and now in the midst of the antibiotic pH change side effect... (even more unpleasant). Have also gained (a lot of weight) so feeling attractive Grin .

On the bright side I have definitely felt him move, even though he is my first oneSmile

RasperryInAMelon · 05/12/2016 08:22

I'm still bunged up... have been for almost a month now...

16 Week Midwife Appointment this morning which is lifting my spirits!
