Wow I have a wiggly baby! I can feel so much movement already, DH keeps saying it's too soon, but the more I feel it the more I just know it's my baby - call it mothers intuition!

So we have decided to find out the sex, I'm assuming this will be at 20weeks scan? In which case only 3 weeks to go Grin It has got me thinking about names, finding it hard to find any I like - has anyone else thought of names yet??

savagehk · 28/11/2016 17:38

I've started looking at names, it took for ever last time.

Vest tops - I've bought some 2nd hand off eBay. I just wish some people didn't use such scented laundry liquid / fabric softener - I've had to wash one top 3x and it still smells! You could also try your normal tops with a bump band instead to cover the bit between where your top ends and your trousers / skirt starts.

Bras - if it's just your under-bust measurement you can get extender hook thingies. Reminds me I need to get some... (www.jojomamanbebe.co.uk/4pack-bra-extenders-a9182.html?gclid=CjwKEAiAyO_BBRDOgM-K8MGWpmYSJACePQ9C6Wrl7Uvw4P4U9V89du5JCTEp7MIw-3jOMkZpaQyV1hoCcrzw_wcB)

If you're also going up cup sizes not gonna help though!

That's sort of what I was thinking re car seats, they're not the lightest of things so it may just be easier to move the baby... also one less thing to find space for in the house!!

Our NHS don't tell you the sex... some policy maker somewhere decided it was a bad idea... and I don't think we're that bothered either way to go private to find out. So we've been trying to do names (took us long enough to name the dog), we have a really short boring surname so it has to be a long first name, or at least an interesting one. Girls we have lots..... Boys are hard!! HmmConfused

growcookeat · 28/11/2016 18:08

Teainbed I ordered loads of basics - leggings, vest tops etc from H&M online. Cheap and lots of styles/colours to choose from so it might be worth a look?

savagehk · 28/11/2016 18:15

Rise we have the opposite, an unusual surname, so both DH & I are so fed up of having to spell the bloody thing we're agreed that the first name must be unambiguous! Ideally not even a name with different spelling options. (eg Rebecca / Rebekah or Phillip with one-l-or-two...)

I didn't want to have a very common one either, but we eventually settled on one in the top 50 last time as the only one that worked... There were three of them with the same name at nursery but the other two have gone to school now.

if we have another boy not sure what we'll do as we'd eliminated all others.

Sonnet18 · 28/11/2016 18:21

I got my vest tops from new look maternity! Really cheap and the quality is ok.
We are finding out the gender on Sunday! Been thinking up names but decided to stop thinking about it for now as no point ubtil we know what we are having!

1004Rise · 28/11/2016 18:21

Savage don't underestimate people's ability to mis-spell a simple four letter word. I too am sick of spelling out surname to the extent that when I book tables in restaurants over the phone I resort to my maiden name which I thought was complicated but I never have to spell Hmm So I'm with you on the it has to be simple, and something he/she can spell at Primary school and something everyone can pronounce (added complication with a half English/half Scottish family) Hmmm starting to understand why this is so difficult!! Wink

McBaby · 28/11/2016 18:27

I loved having a car seat you could easily take in and out if the car. You can get baby all wrapped up before you take them out as they are not allowed bulky clothing or coats under the seatbelt. It was so handy to pop the car seat on the buggy or bring in the house when they are asleep rather than trying to do something with a screaming baby you have just woken up who then decides they want food to settle them again! Even to bring them in go to the loo then pick them out!!

Brightsmoke · 28/11/2016 18:34

Thanks Badger

I've had my 16 week app, and it's my first. I will aim for 25ish weeks then.

Re names, my surname is German, and I forever have to spell it out, should have stuck with my maiden name when we got married!! So the baby will have a fairly easy name. The girls name we've chosen is a shortened version of a 'normal' name, and can end Y or IE, poor child will be forever correcting people on both names if it's a girl!

We chose a car seat that fits onto pram to keep baby in if we are walking somewhere so it doesn't need to be woken up. The adapters were only £35 or so, so no big deal if we never use them.

PeachIcedT · 28/11/2016 18:50

I just so happened to discuss names with DH yesterday - he has always liked a boys name that I'm fine with, and my absolute favourite girls name he also likes (though keeps forgetting, as its fairly unusual - outside the top 1000). So that is one less thing to think over. A lot of names are ruled out due to what the surname is!

Sonnet I'm excited for you finding out the gender on Sunday! I haven't managed to persuade him to go for a private gender scan so will have to wait my 5 weeks instead.

RasperryInAMelon · 28/11/2016 19:36

So much going on today!

In terms of names, do people think they will give baby a name before they're born or wait to see what they look like!?...

I named my little girl last time before she was born. It was lovely to "know" her a little more and make her seem more real. As soon as she was born she had her name and it was perfect for her!

EsmesBees · 28/11/2016 19:59

We had loads of trouble coming up with a name last time. She was just 'the baby' for about a week. We are going to really struggle if this one is another girl.

Adventuregame · 28/11/2016 20:32

My DH is Welsh so I'm currently saying no to every Welsh boys name that's put on the table. I don't mind a Welsh name but I've got to be able to say it/spell it and they're all quite hideous !
Got harmony results back - all clear, the lowest they give out !

lucieloos · 28/11/2016 20:36

I'm Welsh too adventure, I think there's some nice boys names out there but I don't like many Welsh girls names. I've already got my heart set on a girls name but I'm not convinced DH is going to like it.

mummyplus7 · 28/11/2016 20:56

We've always decided on names before 20 weeks and had a boy and girl name picked out (6 out of 7 time we found out gender).

This baby I have decided will be a surprise and we have a girl name picked out but DH doesn't like my boy name, so got some work to do there.

I don't share my names with anyone prior to the birth.

MrsJW15 · 28/11/2016 21:06

So far we haven't really got any names that we like for either! Not planning to find out what we are having, so I think we will have a list of a few names that we like and see what we end up with.

Badgerbird · 28/11/2016 21:16

Help please...Who's had a uti since pregnant and what were your symptoms? Midwife said I had a small bit of protein in my urune sample today but it was prob nothing although could be uti. If it is they'll let me know. I've felt more like crap than usual today and had banging headache all day Sad

savagehk · 28/11/2016 21:35

I'm with mummy - sharing names with people (other than OH of course) means they get a chance to comment.

Although my mother did say 'those are naughty' when I told her the name we'd given him (she'd been a teacher many years)!

mightymouse76 · 28/11/2016 21:46

badger I have had what the midwife and docs suspect was a UTI. Just waiting on my urine test results as the more obvious symptoms had resolved themselves by the time I got a doctors appointment, and they didn't want to give me antibiotics unless absolutely necessary (only because I've already had one allergic reaction during this preg- I think it's quite safe otherwise?)

My symptoms were quite pronounced for a couple of days- painful to pee, a bit like cystitis- and noticeable cramping straight after, then dull ache after that for a little while. I was also coming down with a feverish cold so it was all a bit confusing as to what was causing what to be honest.

I asked the doctor if a UTI could be problematic and he said not so much at this stage (I'm 15 weeks) and they are incredibly common for us (lucky us) but it's important to treat it if it is identified as you don't want it laying low then rearing up in later pregnancy. It can also increase any nausea / vomiting in some cases. Hard to distinguish if you're still suffering from that anyway, but I noticed my nausea got worse again!

Try not to worry- just make sure you're drinking lots of water to help flush the bladder, and I was advised to stay on the loo for another 30 seconds after I'd finished peeing, and try again. It's surprising how it gets trapped in there when you think you've got rid of it all. Takes a while to all filter out under the circumstances! Not fully emptying the bladder can be one of the causes as bacteria builds up.

Oh the other thing the doctor said was that protein is commonly found in pregnancy pee so that isn't a confirmation alone. It's great that they're testing yours further though. Nice to know they're thorough!

I'll let you know what my test results are tomorrow- good luck with yours- hopefully you'll be fine!

stationaryace · 28/11/2016 21:46

Car seats around here tend to sell dirt cheap as there isn't really much of a market for them due to safety aspects. Usually £20-40 and often with the isofix base included.

Last time we didn't have a name until we left the hospital on day 3 as I couldn't think of any names until I saw her. Although I should have a list sorted this time I'll probably end up with another Baby for a few days. NHS won't tell you the sex up here, you need to get a private scan for that.

Badgerbird · 28/11/2016 22:09

Thanks mouse :) I hope you feel better very soon and don't need the antibiotics. Guess I'll just wait and see and hope I can get some sleep with this banging head Confused
